Possible hot take but I barely use crystals and honestly don’t find much use for them. I have a good number that have been gifted to me, a few that I bought myself, and some that I found myself. The ones that I use the most are the found ones that were entirely free. I use them for the places they were from usually just to represent or be a tie to that place. The rest are largely decorative. The only stones I genuinely understand the correspondences for are pyrite and quartz. I could make an argument for obsidian but I don’t have any to use anyway. The rest of them are almost exclusively for color magic.
The point of this: it isn’t worth it to walk into a metaphysical shop and drop no less than $20 on a rock just because it’s shinier than the ones in the parking lot. Unless you actually understand the reason you’re using it (reading on tiktok that it’s supposed to do something doesn’t count) you’re better off doing without. Until you understand what it is, what it does, and why it does that, that crystal is just another rock.
Hey babe that spell might not be working because your associations with an item may not be the same as another's and how you feel about an ingredient is what's going to impact how it influences your spell!
I think that 2023 is a good time for many of us, and allies in particular, to practice again the dying art of minding our own fucking business when it comes to the identities and lives of other people.
You see someone from one of your classes in a public place with a different gender presentation/expression than they typically have? Mind your own business.
You discover that one of your coworkers is in a same gender relationship, but they aren't out at work? Not your place to share that information in the workplace.
You notice that your neighbor in a red state takes a road trip across state lines with their transgender child every 3-6 months? No you fucking didn't.
You overhear students in your classroom using a different name and different pronouns for one student than you are used to using? If you live in a state hostile to trans rights, pretend that you don't know anything about this and report nothing.
You suspect that an acquaintance of yours might be gay, but they deny it when asked directly? Leave them the fuck alone.
One of your friends refuses to publicly label their sexuality? Good for them, you aren't entitled to that information anyway.
Your sibling comes out to you as questioning, but isn't comfortable sharing that with your parents yet? Keep your fucking mouth shut.
Don't out people; coming out is a personal choice not a moral obligation. Don't demand personal information about other people's sexuality or sex lives. You aren't entitled to information about anyone's gender identity, assigned gender at birth, or transition.
Bring back privacy, allow people to have control over the information that is shared about them publicly; it might save their job, their housing, their parental rights and their child's safety, or even save lives.
An important lesson we can learn from plants, especially those considered "weeds", is that if a system does not work for you, grow around it.
Dandelions cannot thrive trapped under a concrete roof, so they twist and spread and sprout between the cracks.
Tree roots will find their way through foundations and bricks to feed the tree.
Brambles will climb up and over fences designed to keep them out, if what's beyond let's them grow.
A sunflower in a pot will face the sun, not the room it's owner so desperately wants it to decorate.
Do what you need to do to thrive, irregardless of what others think you should do.
For those in the broom closet, or for those who are open, for baby witches and for the experienced, here are some back to school witch tips to help your school year be magical and spectacular <3
Draw sigils on assignments for good grades/to have your teacher appreciate your work, scratch them out really hard/fast or erase them to charge.
Charm your lip balm to be persuasive, or to be heard!
Draw a tarot card in the morning to see what you should be aware of for the day, or what you need to work on for the day.
Stir your morning tea or coffee counter-clockwise to rid bad energy, and stir clockwise to bring in good energy, luck, and any other sort of positive intention.
If you have a binder that acts as a book of shadows, place sigils on them to keep wandering eyes away.
Glamours, glamOURS, GLAMOURS!!!!! They work so well if you’re running late. I like to mumble them to myself and mediate on Rose Quartz when I’m in a rush.
Eat small snacks to keep yourself grounded, and don’t forget to breathe after each class. Trust me, I know it can get frustrating with obnoxious people.
Charm talismans/amulets/bracelets to help you be on time/remember your homework.
Put satchets in your lockers/decorate your locker to make it a little safe space or school-friendly altar.
Keep the list going! I started school Monday and I’m eager to see what else witches can do for school!
