Making my own because I'm tired of kids spreading misinformation.
What happened today?
Today Kosa was signed for markup, and to our pain it passed. But that isn't the end at all, especially since two senators voiced their concerns about this bill thanks to all the people emailing and calling.
The senate is currently in recess till September, and that gives us a month to keep the calls and emails coming, to make sure this bill never becomes a law. Our fighting doesn't end here, at all.
being younger than your fave characters and then eventually becoming older than them is such a weird feeling
Can you do something for me, please?
I want you to reblog this if you believe that two people can be very close and physically affectionate with one another, but still have a completely nonsexual, non-romantic relationship.
Even if the two people in question are capable of being sexually or romantically attracted to one another.
Because the friendship I share with someone I consider family in a way that transcends blood has been typecast as a romantic relationship ENTIRELY too many times, and I’m beginning to get sick of it.
Y’all I’m literally never going to be okay about Simon and Betty.
Simon realising that their whole relationship he hadn’t been examining why Betty always followed him because he was too focused on his love for her and not what she really needed. Not what they both really needed.
The devastating parallel of Betty being so blindly in love with Simon that she willingly and unthinkingly always put him first. And Simon being so blindingly in love with Betty that he saw her being happy and so never thought to fucking question whether those were the right decisions to make. Enabling them every time because they were in love and that was what she wanted, right? She wanted to be with him. She loved him. She was happy. So why would he think it should be any different?
And Betty reassuring Simon that she made her own choices. That he didn’t hold her anywhere. That he never forced her to be with him, or put him first. That she made those decisions and that she didn’t have any regrets. But that they both had to let this go because as long as they were focused on each other neither of them were ever going to be able to have the life they needed.
That they had both been trapped for so long carving pieces of themselves out for other people. Betty in her blind devotion when it came to Simon. Simon in his belief that his crimes as the Ice King, and that all the ways he had let down Betty, meant the only purpose and worth he could have was in sacrificing himself for others.
That they both deserved self-possession and the ability to find autonomy and actualisation as individuals. That they deserved to make their own choices, the good and the bad, and just live without the blind devotion, and guilt, and sacrifice that was going to trap them in this loop forever.
That they meant everything to each other, but that now they needed to mean everything to themselves. That the only way forward was on different paths, but that they both deserved that. That they were able to show each other that they deserved that.
That Simon gets to live now.
I will never be okay about this show. Or these two.
I already made that post a while back but it bears repeating: you need to rid yourself of the idea that fandom is some kind of natural phenomenon you have no power over. Fics don't sprout out of existence the same way rain starts falling. Ships don't become popular the same way hurricanes grow. It's people who make art of your blorbos, it's people who get into shipping and headcanons and such.
Which means that you, personally, have the power to influence how shit go in your fandom. I often see people complaining about how "urgh why is this ship unpopular" or "why isn't there more content about xyz" and such, and while I certainly understand the sentiment you have to realize that you can change that. You can make art yourself. You can commission someone to make art for you. You can post headcanons or concepts or ideas online, even if they're not prettily worded or only half-finished. You can encourage people who do create the shit you wanna see by sending them nice asks, or reblogging their stuff, or commenting on their fics.
Trying to shame or guilt people into not making what they like in favor of doing what you like is a doomed endeavor (as well as a dick move.) However, being loud and passionate about the shit you do like can go a long way- I say this as someone who got multiple people to ship characters who have never interacted in canon. You can do it! It costs nothing to try! I believe in you! :)
