Today I'm here to tell you about each feature of "The Writer's Workbook", which you can download for free.
Note: this workbook has two variations, so you can print it or use it digitally as a PDF.
I designed this workbook in an intuitive way so that the plot progresses as you go further in the exercises. It is divided in six big categories: Idea & Plot, Character Development, World Building, Writing, Journal, and Resources.
Note: feel free to skip exercises or to complete them in any other order than the one suggested by me!
This section is meant to help you develop your idea before you even know who your characters are.
In this part, you will choose the central conflict, write down keywords about your idea, and draw a mind map. Then, you'll proceed to find your voice through different exercises, to then find each key point of the plot, from exposition to resolution.
It's also in this part that you are going to come up with plot twists and the ending of the book.
Here, as the name says, you will completely develop all your characters, from the protagonist to the side characters. You will also have the opportunity to develop their relationships through mind maps and brainstorming processes.
Just like the other categories, worldbuilding is a fundamental step when plotting a novel.
In this workbook, you'll be asked to draw or generate a map of your world so that you always have it near you whenever you need it. There are also some prompts to fill out about it, and locations to create and explore.
In this part, you can also make a timeline for all the main events in your world.
Now that most of your story is planned, it's time to think about writing it!
This section is perfect to come up with the best title for your book, brainstorming and develop the opening scene, and fully developing each key point using the snowflake method.
There's also a place to write down all the scenes and chapters you want to include in your book and check it off as you write it.
This part is for you to reflect on your writing goals, on your ideas, and to see your progress. It's important to check this often and make sure you always have your goals in mind!

Nos angustiamos cuando nos va mal en el colegio, nos deprimimos cuando la persona que nos gusta no nos quiere, nos odiamos cuando no nos vemos de la manera que queremos… Pero, Ustedes creen que si la vida fuese como queremos, que si tuviésemos todo lo que queremos, seríamos felices ¿o sólo encontraríamos más cosas para odiar? Está en la naturaleza del hombre ser ambicioso, querer crecer y seguir creciendo. Pero creo que tenemos muy desordenadas las prioridades.
¿Por qué permitimos que esa mala nota en matemática nos arruine el día? Si al fin y al cabo es sólo eso. Un puntaje. Y tal vez tengo un nueve en literatura, pero yo quería el diez. Entonces no sonrío. En un año esa nota no va a existir, va a haber sido para nada. ¿Por qué quiero conquistar a esa persona que no me quiere? ¿Por qué quiero forzar a alguien a que me ame, cuando seguramente lo hagan mal? ¿Por qué me odio cuando veo que peso más de lo que establece la sociedad como perfección? ¿Por qué quiero el pelo lacio si lo tengo lleno de rulos salvajes?
¿Por qué perseguimos todas esas cosas? Si eso no es crecer, no es triunfar. Nos llenamos la cabeza de preocupaciones, permitimos que los estándares nos convenzan de que no estamos acá para ser felices, sino para trabajar y ser el mejor. Y ascender, y ascender y seguir ascendiendo hasta que las ojeras ya sean parte de nuestras caras, que las sonrisas naturales dejen de existir y que nuestros sueños queden en último lugar. Hasta que, de pronto, abrimos los ojos y nos damos cuenta de cuán equivocados estábamos. Que la felicidad está en las cosas más simples; en los árboles, en el viento cálido, en las luces de la ciudad y en la risa de los niños, en las sonrisas de los adultos y el brillo en los ojos de una persona cuando cumple un objetivo. Así que, a vos que estás leyendo, te pido por favor que no creas que por ese desaprobado en la materia que sea vas a fracasar en todo lo que te propongas, no creas nunca que no sos lo suficientemente bueno/a para cumplir tus sueños. No creas que tenés que seguir una carrera universitaria sí o sí, si tal vez tu pasión es bailar. Nunca dejes de hacer lo que te hace feliz, no importa qué pase. Nunca te pongas en último lugar por nadie, éste es TU juego, y lo podés jugar como vos quieras. Despreocupate, corré, paseá, reíte, saltá, juga, escucha música al volumen que quieras, hace todo lo que quieras y nunca te arrepientas de haberlo hecho si te hizo bien aunque sea por dos segundos. Cumplí tus sueños, lucha por ellos, con paciencia. Seguí creciendo, pero más importante… Sé feliz.”

Negotiation and Deal Making is a wonderful and useful course that helps you to deal with businessman, entrepreneurs and negotiators. In order to put in perspective the “great deal” about the course, we need to compare the past (without any course) and the present (with the course) in my personal experience as negotiator. I still remember when I founded an Expo in Mexico, and most of 30 businesses got together around my business because they found a mutual benefit. I should say they did get a more beneficial interest than me, except for the fact that I was on the spotlight, which brought me a lot of social presence that I used it in the future. However, to gather those businesses together meant to give away concessions against my own interests.
I negotiated with no goal in mind except than putting them together at all costs. I did not know anything about role-playing, deal-structuring skills, critiquing role playing scenarios, negotiation skills development, and self-awareness (except bringing those business together at all costs). With the knowledge of this course, everything would have changed, and mutual benefits would have existed for both parties in the negotiation process.
Nowadays, the expectations for the future in business negotiations look very promising with this course taken. Someday the student will become a businessman with knowledge on how to deal with people in different environment and scenarios. The road to success is filled with little bumps along the road as Fisher, Ury and Patton (2011) stated in his book Getting to Say Yes “This may require experimentation and a period of adjustment that is not so comfortable” but they highlighted that the negotiation power would be amplified if you believe in you.
How does the negotiation start in real world? Human beings and their emotions are the main topic in Negotiation and Deal Making. Even though we are rational, there are always emotions involved in any negotiation process that could get the deal in hold, go forward or in an impasse. It would be endless to talk about all of the different kinds of emotions, but Fisher and Shapiro (2005) in his book “Beyond Reason” express that we have five core concerns: Appreciation, Affiliation, Autonomy, Status and Role. These emotions and their knowledge will play an important role in business negotiation. The outcome of the deal will be successful depending on what perspective we apply towards those feelings: if we recognize, deny, block, or forget those emotions. If we want a successful deal, we need to be proactive and acknowledge all these emotions with our negotiators if we want a successful negotiation.
Do not forget our BATNA that is the most important piece of equipment. Our Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement is the key in case we do not have a beneficial agreement, and we should consider the other negotiator and his BATNA to be more successful.
What have I learned from this course? I have learned to valuate the other people’s interest because there is a lot of information in them that we can use towards the negotiation process. When there is an obstacle, I try to scrutinize what kind of emotion and where in those 5 categories might fall, or as the author stated, “use the core concern as both a lens and a lever”. Also, I try to acknowledge what is the driving force in that individual whom we are negotiating with. Additionally, I will always review the kind of communication we have with our negotiator (good o bad terms), our communication process (do we listen to each other?), our interests (do we have mutual interest?), our options (What options do we have?), our commitments (what commitments we both can agree with), and finally our BATNA (His BATNA and mine). It is only then when we could say we are prepared to face the challenge to get a deal done.
