Bob: Don't you get jealous?

Hangman: I never really had anything to worry about. Roo was never really good at the flirting thing.

Rooster: What are you talking about? It worked with you.

Hangman: Oh, you know what? You're right. We met, you flirted, and then bam! Ten years later you had me!

I think a lot about Jake and Bradley unconsciously parroting Carole and Goose's relationship.

I think about them calling each other "honey" often. About Jake flirting, calling Rooster a stud. About Jake sitting in Bradley's lap while he screeches over the piano keys, the other daggers surrounding them with love and laughter. I think about Jake leaning over Bradley to face Nat and telling her, "So. Rooster told me about you and Bob-o, Trace. Hell of an improvement from the last asshole you dated." Only for Rooster to SQUEAK beside him, nuzzling Jake's cheek with a frantic, "Baby, I did not--" "Yes you did." "That was supposed to be a secret, honey!"

Like yes, they're often compared to Icemav, and it's true--SO true, but I also like to think that when Icemav are together, Mav also takes inspiration from Carole and Goose on how to be a partner.

Anyway, send tweet.

Alex: So is this thing between Buck and Bucky supposed to be a secret? Brady: Hardly, the only people who don’t know are Buck and Bucky.

can we just take a second to appreciate Aryan Simhadri? he's a fantastic actor, every second he's on the screen he manages to make his actions scream GROVER. he's perfect for his role just like Leah and Walker are yet I don't see nearly enough people talking about him and his contribution to the show in this fandom. he's not only nailing the Grover Underwood vibe but he's also providing so much phenomenal Indian/Asian rep. he's giving so much depth of character and that is so rare for Indians (and Asians generally) in popular media, and he's so conscious of how his background interacts with Grover's. Aryan has given so so much to us and now I wanna hear y'all celebrating that.

Guys, the annual recap is finally here!!

Guys, The Annual Recap Is Finally Here!!

It absolutely killed me how blatantly they show how comfortable Miguel O’Hara is with small children. The animators utilized the sheer power of body language to show that he was only irritated by Peter B Parker being annoying/irresponsible but meanwhile Miguel’s hands are perfectly maneuvering, almost on autopilot, to make sure Mayday stayed in a safe comfortable position even when she was being super wriggly and excitable. Showing that scene immediately after showing Miguel looking at pictures of him and his daughter.. i’m so unwell help

my mother said something really interesting about this episode (yes, she also watches the show and is a huge fan of dani rojas just like me) and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. she said: “it seems to me like this whole episode was about intimacy”

and like… yeah! that’s exactly it! the amsterdam trip set the perfect scene for it too, because people are normally a little more lax on vacation, a little more adventurous, a little more lenient and able to put themselves out there.

you have the pretty obvious contenders for this point: rebecca having her little fling with that nameless bald man and learning to open herself up to real connection and intimacy again, to be able to envision for herself a life and a love that is unmoored to her past with rupert and is able to exist in its own little intimate pocket. you’ve got jamie and roy learning to trust in each other, to be intimate and vulnerable about their pasts and about their present situations too (especially for roy, who is still right now a man who would rather break up with the woman he loves that admit, that he doesn’t think he’s good enough for her). and you also have, of course, the true soul of the episode, which was colin and trent’s discussion, and how colin feels that ache to be able to show the more intimate parts of him to the world the way heterosexual couples do, to be able to merge his intimate personal life with his fun if not a little reserved professional life. how to achieve a balance between intimacy and privacy.

and then you have the less obvious ones maybe, like higgins and will going to the jazz club— which isn’t really that hard to decipher when you think about it. it is, after all, where higgins opens up about an intimate detail of his love for jazz, and then gets to share his previously very intimate and private activity of playing the bass with the crowd. he even starts the night complaining of how exposed their seats feel, and ends up standing on the stage by the end of it. and, of course, will potentially had a threesome. so there’s a kind of intimacy for you. the one that truly isn’t obvious is the team pillow fight which honestly, I think is just a way of showing that sometimes a more intimate, fun yet indoor activity makes for better memories than something like a sex show or a club, which are both very grand and exciting yet impersonal and detached kinds of activities.

then of course you have ted, who is sort of lacking what my mother called an intimacy with himself. he’s been feeling a little lost, a little “stuck” as he put it. and I don’t think he understood why until this episode, until this adventure he went on with the museum and the american themed restaurant. it was a way for him to spend quality time with himself, to be alone with his thoughts while still not totally unable to absorb his surroundings and learn something. and in exploring his more intimate thoughts he was able to think of something really good! something that will make him a better coach!

and yeah, when it’s framed in this way I think this episode was sooooo killer. I love seeing people open up a little bit, to show these deep and intimate parts of their being. it’s so so so good.

Hull-House interview with the Ghoul Boys

I finally watched the interview Ryan and Shane did with the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum (The Haunting of Hull-House with Shane and Ryan of Ghost Files) and it was great.

image

They talked with the Hull-House Education Coordinator Nadia Maragha who not only did a great job as an interviewer but also seemed to be a fan of Unsolved and Watcher too.

The video started with the history of the Hull-House and the interviewer also told them about the space they had the interview in. I really liked that Ryan and Shane just sat there and listened. I love listening to what those two dorks have to say as much as the next queer but it was also great to listen to someone who knows what she is talking about and just watch Ryan and Shane.

They also talked a bit about the role of the Hull-House today - it is a museum on a college campus and part of the University Illinois-Chicago. The video will also be seen by the students of the university.

The interviewer said “Hull-House hasn’t really engaged very much with its supernatural history” and I find that incredibly interesting. Watcher got invited to Hull-House instead of reaching out first which I also find very amazing.

image

Shane said: “I think if you get people to read into these things or get them interested in these things then it’s worth what you’re doing. I’m sure there’s a ton of people who don’t know about Hull-House or Jane Addams or anything that goes on here cause it does seem a little more localized.”

And he is right, I did not know about it before but now I do. ^-^

Ryan said there is value in learning about other people’s beliefs and I agree with that 100% (and may I just say, the man is an absolute treasure).

They talked about locations they investigated - most creepy locations, favorite locations, and dream locations.

image

One question was especially interesting to me: How do they avoid sensationalizing places with a heavy history, how do they keep the balance between that and the comedic aspects of the show?

Ryan gave a very careful/thoughtful answer (seriously watch the vid) and he also said that believing in ghosts is perhaps one of the more optimistic things you can do because it proofs that there is something after you die. “Trying to kind of find proof of that is something that still drives me in terms of just my natural curiosity of the world.”

On how to get started with ghosthunting, they had this to say: use the phone you already have and go to a haunted place (Ryan), be safe, be vigilant, wear some boots, don’t go into a condemned building (Shane). Both answers I love because it’s basically just: “This is accessible, you don’t need fancy equipment”, and “Be safe, don’t get hurt”.

image

Nobody ever got to check out the attic! It is so cool to me that they were the first ones who hunted for ghouls and devil babies there. Amazing.

The interviewer said it is common that people don’t want to go upstairs because they don’t feel right about it, even if they don’t know about the haunted history.

Some random things:

Shane said when he was in grade school, he wanted to be an art teacher.

Shane did a project in school where had to present something about insects and he edited a video about bees.

Bergaraism - The Science We Don’t Know About Yet. A nice little reminder of “There is other science we don’t know about yet”. :D I enjoyed that a lot.

The interviewer also spoke about her own beliefs which was SUPER interesting.

Also, I really like her flower pen! ^-^
