AI worse than humans in every way at summarising information, government trial finds
Crikey
A test of AI for Australia's corporate regulator found that the technology might actually make more work for people, not less.

Artificial intelligence is worse than humans in every way at summarising documents and might actually create additional work for people, a government trial of the technology has found. Amazon conducted the test earlier this year for Australia’s corporate regulator the Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) using submissions made to an inquiry. The outcome of the trial was revealed in an answer to a questions on notice at the Senate select committee on adopting artificial intelligence. The test involved testing generative AI models before selecting one to ingest five submissions from a parliamentary inquiry into audit and consultancy firms. The most promising model, Meta’s open source model Llama2-70B, was prompted to summarise the submissions with a focus on ASIC mentions, recommendations, references to more regulation, and to include the page references and context. Ten ASIC staff, of varying levels of seniority, were also given the same task with similar prompts. Then, a group of reviewers blindly assessed the summaries produced by both humans and AI for coherency, length, ASIC references, regulation references and for identifying recommendations. They were unaware that this exercise involved AI at all. These reviewers overwhelmingly found that the human summaries beat out their AI competitors on every criteria and on every submission, scoring an 81% on an internal rubric compared with the machine’s 47%.  Human summaries ran up the score by significantly outperforming on identifying references to ASIC documents in the long document, a type of task that the report notes is a “notoriously hard task” for this type of AI. But humans still beat the technology across the board. Reviewers told the report’s authors that AI summaries often missed emphasis, nuance and context; included incorrect information or missed relevant information; and sometimes focused on auxiliary points or introduced irrelevant information. Three of the five reviewers said they guessed that they were reviewing AI content. The reviewers’ overall feedback was that they felt AI summaries may be counterproductive and create further work because of the need to fact-check and refer to original submissions which communicated the message better and more concisely.

Redoing my character references (including redesigns as needed). After I finish Cecie’s, I may reblog with more info on the three’s dynamic 😌

[Edit] Cecie’s is now attached! Now that I got the M3 completed I’ll be taking a break from sheets to do some scenes. Though many more reference sheets will be made in the future…

Cecie’s Lament Characters

Francis, the demonic warlock patron.

Main text reads as follows. "Francis (basics) They/ them. 5 feet 9 inches tall. Age unknown. A charismatic "demon" with a wealth of secrets."
Main text reads as follows. "Francis (body details). Scars, tattoos, and piercings don't need to be exact, but the other details should be." The notes on the right read, from top to bottom and left to right: "Inky blood and flesh." "Tattoos." "Pupils are catlike." "Body 'rips' starting from the scars when under extreme stress."
Main text reads as follows. "Francis (wardrobe). Please feel free to put them in outfits other than these." The outfit labels, from left to right, read: "Normal, Formal, Casual, Sleepwear."

Maddox, the half-elf wizard-turned-warlock.

Main text reads as follows. "Maddox (basics). He/him. 6 feet 1 inch. 137 years old. An ill-tempered wizard harboring a nasty grudge."
Main text reads as follows. "Maddox (body details). Don't draw him scarless, shaved, or without his piercings. Maddox always looks somewhat disheveled (intensity varies)." The notes, from top to bottom and left to right, read: "Scars on arms are (mostly) from using blood for magic purposes." "Hair is mid-back length and slightly greasy." "[Maddox] has prominent eyebags and a blind left eye." "When borrowing power from Francis, this sigil appears above his heart." "Left eye gets replaced by an alchemical prosthetic later."
Main text reads as follows. "Maddox (wardrobe). Feel free to put him in outfits other than these." From left to right, the outfit labels read: "Normal, Formal, Casual, Sleepwear."

[Edit] Cecie, the elf soothsayer.

Main text reads as follows. "Cecie (basics) She/they. 5 feet 11 inches tall. 129 years old. A sheltered seer with a rich inner world."
Main text reads as follows. "Cecie (body details). Do not draw her unamputated or without her scars." The notes on the right read, from top to bottom and left to right: "Eyes can appear red in specific lighting, but are normally grey." "Legally blind and extremely light sensitive. Can only see clearly during prophetic dreaming." "Body prone to sunburn and bruising (she's ok, I promise)."
Main text reads as follows. "Cecie (wardrobe). Feel free to put him in outfits other than these." From left to right, the outfit labels read: "Normal, Formal, Casual, Sleepwear."

A brief note on elves and demons (under the cut):

Elves:

My elves age differently from humans, maturing far slower and then leading prolonged lives. The average elf’s life expectancy sits in the 500s, though some have far exceeded this thanks to good medicine and magic practices. In elf-dominant cultures, an elf isn’t considered an adult until their 80s, at which point they will leave the home and venture out into the world to gain broader experience (and find a specific skill to hone in on). Trips like these often take decades to complete, with 20 years being considered on the short side.

Half-elves live shorter lives, but have the same maturation rate as full-blooded elves. They are still expected to participate in the same customs as full-blooded elves (if they want to be “respectable”, anyway). For Maddox, that means that he left the home in his early 80s and became a mercenary until his 110s (at which point he returned home for Cecie’s sake).

Demons:

“Demon” is just a shorthand term for all entities who were created to be or transformed into the servants of a deity. There’s a lot I could share about them, but I’ll save that for a separate post in the future (if folks want me to share the lore, or if I feel like doing it myself.)

“Demons” in my worldbuilding are not connected to Christianity, or any other real-world religion. They share some superficial similarities, but with vastly different origin stories and mechanics.

Please don't ignore me

Hello, I'm Lina from Gaza🇵🇸🍉. I'm part of a family of 8. I'm married with two young children. We've been bombed, besieged, and starved. Sadly, I've lost many of my family members❗ and I can't afford to lose any more. With a heavy heart, I'm asking you to help me spread my campaign. Please, what I'm asking is too much. Can you write a post about my story and share it with your friends? I desperately need your support. My father and brother were injured in the bombing and are in critical condition. They need to travel for treatment. I need your support. The genocide is still going on

You are my only hope for survival.

Campaign verified by

@ana-bananya

I really hope you and your family get the support yall deserve! I’m currently unable to donate directly, though I’ll likely open commission work in the future where the payment i accept is folks donating to campaigns like yours.

If any of you can, go donate to this family, or reblog this post if you can’t!

why keep someone else’s oc on you’re art fight page (Ayelet)

since said person is unsure if he wants to participate in art fight himself, i offered to him the opportunity to still get art of her without feeling obligated to participate in the event himself (and he was fine with the idea). plus, ayelet’s storyline is intertwined with the storyline of the charas unhidden on my profile, so might as well have her there as an option for those who might wanna draw interaction attacks :))

this is a lifesaver, my technique is legit just “fuck around and find out” 😌👍

I forgot I have to be active here so here’s my Twitter tutorial on how to draw folds I made a while back to help a friend!

A piece of cloth teaching you how to draw cloth folds of different material. Each picture depicts two arms in the same material - one thin arm and one fat arm.
THICK clothes only have a few folds! Sometimes a bump is all it takes to suggest a fold for THICK stuff. Examples are sweaters, hoodies, wool, fleece, and denim
THIN clothes have a lot of folds and bumps! Thin stuff usually has more lines that wrap around what's underneath. Examples are rayon, cotton, and crepe
SMOOTH stuff have "squiggly" folds. Smooth cloth folds tend to "loop" back to where they start. Examples are silk, velvet, Satin, Bamboo cotton, and most luxurious stuff
SOFT clothes have round folds. Unlike smooth stuff, soft stuff doesn't have many "squiggles" or solid lines in between. Examples are down jackets, fur, fleece, washed linen, and polyester
STIFF clothes have angular folds! Most folds tend to look triangular - assuming they even fold at all! Examples are raincoats, New denim, canvas, and suits
PS I have avoided talking about loose vs tight clothing since whatever is loose on one person (A shows a thin arm in a baggy yellow sleeve) might not be as loose on a different person (B depicts the same sleeve which comfortably fits around the fat arm). However it's still important to learn about these type of things.
Person asks, "So uh... what happens if the clothes are Smooth and Thin, or Thick and Soft?" The answer is DO BOTH! Top right shows a full woman in a dress that has a Smooth skirt and a Stiff top half. Even though it's one dress, one part is more Smooth while the other part is more Stiff. There are more examples but don't forget to study hard and have fun!
