i think that animals would just have ghost seeing powers by default. like anytime someone brings one on campus they just bug out at random and nobody can figure out why. but it's because there's ghosts there talking to them and getting them hyped up. i mostly think this because wally would be devastated if he couldn't pet the occasional dog.

you know if wally had been born one year earlier he would have been a baby boomer. scary.

“you  were?”  time  has  a  tendency  to  bleed  together  after  decades  surrounded  by  the  same  scenery  day  in  and  day  out.  even  harder  to  keep  track  once  you  get  the  ghosts  he  doesn't  talk  to  day  in  and  day  out  involved.  no  offense  to  the  others.  “are  you  sure?  i  could  have  sworn  that  happened  before  you  got  here.  or  was  that  that  other  girl…”   other  ghosts  bleed  together  too,  apparently.  unfortunately  not  even  death  can  fix  the  mild  brain  damage  that  direct  hits  to  the  head  can  do. but  in  his  defense,  there  are  a  startling  number  of  them  around  here.
