so funny when people make sang-woo the evil ex from gi-hun's past. he would NOT be acting like that in 2020 if he had ever actually hit. he would be 300% crazier but in a completely different way
Depressing Sangihun thought of the day:
In the years between S1 and S2, Gi-Hun researched the hotel where Sang-Woo stayed. Let's say everything was left untouched, so the messy room, the cigarettes, the empty bottles of soju, the bathtub left with undrained water, and the stove next to it was all in there, as an evidence of what Sang-Woo went thru before returning to the games. Two notes were left behind, one was wrinkled next to a trashcan, and the other was neatly placed on a desk, right next to his glasses.
The wrinkled was a suicide letter, apologizing for everything he did that led him to that place, especially apologizing to his mother for being a failure and dragging her into his crimes.
The neatly letter explained he was brought another opportunity to fix his mistakes, and might dissappear in the attempt. He explains all the details he knew about the first game but didn't expect anyone to believe him. If he doesn't come back, it would be because he failed at the attempt. If he did come back, he would fix his mistakes. But won't stay for long either, as he didn't see any purpose, even if he had the chance to start over.
Gi-Hun took everything with him, his suits, personal items, and his glasses. Hoarding everything into a room, but his glasses. He kept those in the nightstand beside his bed, staring at it for long hours.
i also don't think Whittaker and Santos would tell anyone they're living together. Whittaker would be like i can't tell anyone i moved in with Santos or they'll find out i was secretly living in the hospital and Santos is like i can't tell anyone i let Whittaker move in with me that'll destroy my reputation. so they just silently agree to arrive at work separately and not discuss it at work.
eventually after like 6 months Whittaker lets it slip and everyone's very confused bcos firstly no-one thought they were friends and secondly why have they kept this totally normal thing a secret
the pitt is crazy from a storytelling perspective because usually you sort of focus on one main plot point and it culminates over an arc so you have the time to have a dramatic chekhov's gun moment but this is one day in the ER so shit just keeps happening and gets resolved and happens again in a disjointed rhythm so instead you get chekhov's gun and chekhov's knife and chekhov's pregnancy test and chekhov's rats and chekhov's fourth set of scrubs and you have no idea when any of them are gonna fire.

I love you all, you are doing amazing things, but here is some extra helpful information to help you write more accurate fanfics
Medical School is 4 years long. Typically, the first 2 years are in the classroom, and year 3 and year 4 are clinical years.
Year 3 is when your medical school sends you on rotations (usually lasting 4 weeks) and you end up basically rotating at different specialties.
Javadi is a 3rd year on a 4 week rotation. If your fic is set a month after the events of season 1, she is not working there. If you want to include her in your fanfic, put her on a surgery rotation with Dr. Garcia so she is back in the ED doing surgical things! Or put her on inpatient medicine (aka the doctor that does the medicine at the hospital) and have her come down to the ED to admit a patient.
4th year medical students typically have more say in where they are rotating. they still are only doing 4 week (and sometimes 2 week!) rotations. A lot of the time, 4th year's are "auditioning" or working "sub-i's" which means they are acting like an intern at a residency program in hopes that the residency program will want to hire/match that student
Whitaker is a 4th year student and likely auditioning to be an emergency medicine doctor at The Pitt. If your fic is set sometime in July of the next year, he is now a doctor!
Med students don't place orders, but it's fine if you get this wrong, the TV show did too.
Match day!!! They day where all 4th year medical students find out where they will end up working. On a Monday in March, students find out if they matched at a residency program, and on a Friday, they find out where. (If you want to learn about the SOAP process, you can ask me, but we don't need to get into that for fic writing)
The beginning of residency starts July 1st, which is why Season 2 of The Pitt being on July 4th will be really interesting! The intern class will be doctors for 3 whole days at that point!
Most emergency medicine residencies are only 3 years long, but The Pitt is four years long. (There is actually a lot of hot debate about extending all EM residencies to 4 years)
Santos is an intern/PGY-1 (post grad year 1) she is a baby doctor. We never ACTUALLY learn what Santos matched in to. Part of me thinks she is in a "transitional year" which is sometimes a 1 year program for people to be a doctor but still want to apply to another program (hence why she wanted a letter of rec from Javadi's mom). She ALSO is doing 4 week rotations and will probably spend time at other rotations (like surgery 👀, ob, icu)
Year 2 residents and year 3 residents will rotate at different hospitals (Hence why Mel just came from the VA.) Year 2 is when a lot of emergency medicine residents REALLY start working in the ER, as your first year you are off doing other rotations.
Year 4 is when you can be elected as a chief resident. Not all PGY-4's are chiefs. You typically get elected for the role by your fellow residents and faculty (that would be Robby and Abbot). The amount of chief residents is dependent on the size of the residency program
After your 4th year, you graduate and can become an attending (again Robby, Abbot and Shen -> who is a new attending) or you can do a fellowship! Which is what Langdon was applying for and why he needed Robby's letter of rec.
Residents are working 60-80 hour weeks and making maybe 65k a year
Hours are NOT SET for residents. Those residents working the night shift, probably are only working the night shift that week and then are switching to days. Attendings, however, do choose if they work days or nights.
Obviously there is a lot more to this, but here are some basics!
has dennis seen the sea before. i dont think he has, especially coming from a landlocked state like nebraska. pennsylvania doesn't have a border that connects to the ocean. the only thing close is the shoreline on lake erie (correct me if im wrong). has he ever experienced the sandy shores of the beach, the call of seagulls circling overhead, the feeling of waves crashing against your legs and it's freezing cold but you look forward and the blue against blue seems to stretch on forever. it's a different sort of vastness from the corn fields he grew up in. its nothing like the mesmerizing, rippling digital blues he saw every night on the old tv they were supposed to throw out that he and his brothers snuck into their "secret" treehouse. it's breathtaking. and maybe he'll sit on one of those driftwood logs in cargo shorts soaked to the bone and just breathe, the salty sea air refreshingly unfamiliar. maybe make a sandcastle for the first time. dig up a giant hole in the ground with trinity and fill it up with sea water. and maybe when he looks at her when she laughs as he trips and falls face first into the water at some point, he'll see his older brother's face. think to himself, 'yeah, they'd love it here'.
idk man. growing up in california made me realize just how lucky i am to be able to experience such a variety of settings all in one state. and how it must feel for people well into their teenage or adult years to experience the beauty of the ocean for the first time.
the unfortunate thing about the second season being 10 months into the future is that we'll never see a bit where javadi gets to private investigator levels of nosy about why santos and whitaker are Like That and concludes they are dating. and when she tells them this, they both look at her like she's killed their childhood pets.
Santos deffo gives big soccer lesbian vibes, I could see her playing field hockey or lacrosse too: the girls who run around in fields with sticks are brutal. but the gymnast idea really gives ties to the CSA Santos experienced, with a lot of people still remembering the Larry Nassar thing, and the Pitt really has to fit in maximum impact with details because they will never have a chance to devote more than a short convo onscreen to anyone’s personal life troubles. So it makes sense, even if Santos in cleats and sports bra feels more natural than Santos in a sparkly leotard
you're right, about all of this. honestly, the more i think about it, the more gymnast santos seems right for her character. i'm hoping we get to know more about her as a gymnast in the following season(s).

And another thing:
Regardless of your interpretation of Langdon's relationship with his wife, that man LOVES being a father. He's got a little friendship bracelet that says dad, whenever their is a child tragedy he is already on the phone to hear his kids and make sure they are ok. He bought them a puppy just because his four year old wanted one, desire to make them happy completely overriding any kind of common sense. Just he clearly loves being Dad, he is like daydreaming about mowing the lawn in white New Balance sneakers, he is mentally grilling outside during their birthday parties or whatever.
And there is so much to be explored with regards to how little time he actually gets with them. Residents get almost no time off for anything so you know he misses them and you know he feels guilty and you know the puppy is BECAUSE he feels guilty.
And we talk a lot (as we should) about the resentment that grows in the primary parent at having to be On and expend all their time and energy on caretaking, but it is also possible for the parent who is not there and is spending less time to be resentful of the other parent for GETTING so much time with the kids. IDK I just think it is an interesting thing to think about in terms of his relationship with his wife because he clearly loves those children.

and when we get a parallel of 1x15 in 2x1 of langdon talking to dana about how he's stressed and nervous and can't cope but its the start of the shift so she's her normal self and puts an arm around him and asks him if he wants a coffee and he says "thats a good idea" instead of "yes please" and gets up to grab a mug and make the coffee leaving her quietly stunned because for langdon its been 10 months but for dana its been a day
