Hannibal is dumbfounded when he tries to make Will sweet tea, but refuses to use that much sugar (because it's too extreme for Hannibal's european mind to handle) and so the tea ends up not nearly sweet enough.

Will takes a sip and grimaces and spits it out in the sink. He turns to Hannibal and sets down the glass. "I love you, honey, but that tastes like swamp water out of an alligator's ass."

Y'all just know Hannibal's heart would break and he would be crestfallen for the rest of the day and sit in silent horror as Will goes about the proper way to make sweet tea. He keeps asking Will if that much sugar is necessary, worried about Will getting diabetes.

Will says something like: "Lay off me, darlin'. It ain't killed me yet and I've been drinking it over half of my life." He kisses the crease between Hannibal's brows. "I'm sorry I insulted your attempt. It was very sweet of you to do." Then he makes Hannibal take a sip and says "that's what it should taste like" as Hannibal chokes on the sweetness.

My headcanon is while Hannibal would not be in love with how sweet it is, he would attempt to drink it or learn to like it because it's something Will loves. He's obsessed with anything and everything about Will. Even mundane things like Will's sweet tea preference.

and then, to put it in perspective, from hannibal's pov, working his ass off for years to get will to understand him, to see him for what he was and to accept him and even love him. he loves will. that was almost blatantly stated in the show.

but in wrath of the lamb, will finally reaches for hannibal instead of the other way around

will reached out so hannibal could help him up but there is no heterosexual explanation for what happens after that. will's grip on his shoulder? strong. will resting his head on his shoulder? g a y.

and hannibal looks so relieved. he looks so relaxed. because we finally got here. that light tug on his shirt? we got here and it's almost everything he's ever wanted and then will lays his head on his shoulder and it's almost too good to be true.

I fucking love when his traumatic past makes an appearance in fics. Especially when Will sees the traumatized child hidden beneath layers of poise and assurance. ✨I gobble those fics up✨ The moment I learned about Hannibal’s backstory in the show vs the books/movie I was foaming at the mouth like omg the whump potential 😌

I love how the fandom collectively decided that Hannibal's backstory in the show sucks and adopted the one he has in the original trilogy.

Literally nothing unique happened to show!Hannibal. His sister was sexually assaulted and murdered, but he didn't even kill the guy who did it. He ate her liver, lungs, and heart voluntarily, taking the time to prepare a fancy Italian meal in her honor. After his parents died, his aunt and uncle probably took him in immediately, so he was always a spoiled rich kid. He's just a freak by nature.

But everyone watched that and said, "Nah, he was actually forced to eat Mischa during unspecified famine blizzard times. He became mute from the trauma, was beaten in an orphanage, and now he can't eat soup and has nightmares when it snows." And I think that's beautiful. 😌

will who is so fond of spiders and gently cradles them in his hands and settles them on a leaf outside his house vs hannibal who absolutely DESPISES them because they remind him of the days spent in that cabin with mischa during the winter when spiders would hide in his shoes and in her sister’s braids and he’s BEGGING for will to crush and kill it

Let me preface this by saying, please know, these are only my thoughts about Will and Hannibal post-fall, and I'm genuinely not forcing them down anyone's throat. Please don't come at me for saying this. Anyone is welcome to disagree. I'm just trying to engage in a polite discussion.

I don't understand when people say stuff along the lines of: "Hannibal would not want Will to wear plaid flannels to an opera. He would make Will change into something nicer." or "Hannibal would have a hard time slumming it with Will post-fall when they're on the run. He would complain about everything, refuse to eat gas station food and be picky about everything from their sleeping arrangements to their clothes to their choices of meal, etc."

Because Hannibal literally did live through very tough times as a child and would be able to adapt in those circumstances as an adult. Hannibal would probably be worrying about Will's health and comfort (and willingness to stay by his side) much more than the reality of having to eat a gas station hot dog or worrying about what clothes Will chose to wear (which lets be real: Hannibal never criticized Will's fashion choices ever in the show--not once--there's no inclination in the show that alludes to Hannibal finding Will's outfits ugly at all). Hannibal literally wears plaid patterns himself. Hannibal wouldn't want to change every single thing about Will. Hannibal doesn't want a copy and paste version of himself. That would be boring and not at all satisfying. Hannibal wants Will. Like... Will's clothes are a part of himself and his self expression. I think Hannibal finds Will's fashion sense something worth adoring and allowing Will free reign over, because it's what makes Will... Will.

Also because food is so important to Hannibal (and there's food insecurity stemming from his childhood), I don't think Hannibal would ever dream of telling Will certain foods are off limits or shame him for eating junk food if Will wanted a little sweet treat. He would want Will to indulge in every enjoyable aspect of eating. He would probably ask Will about childhood memories and the emotions tied to such junk food because it would be an opportunity to learn more about Will's past and quirks.

Expanding on my last post to add a few more things about Mizumono and Digestivo:

Imagine young, mute Hannibal in the orphanage watching as other children get adopted—but no adults ever approach him or seem to want to get to know him because the other kids (and staff) are wary of him and warn the prospective adopters that he’s difficult—that sometimes he has violent outbursts, wets the bed, has night terrors, and can’t speak. His first experience of rejection.

Only, this present rejection from Will in Mizumono feels ten times more agonizing because he’s overcome those past struggles and society finally views him as normal and an acceptable, highly-respected presence. But even after overcoming all that—it isn’t enough—because Will doesn’t want him or the life he planned for them to have. A life he never imagined he would be able to have.

That’s why each of Will’s future rejections cut so deep. Hannibal turns himself in because he couldn’t handle the thought of Will losing him—of Will not knowing where he would be. Because he’s been lost before—stumbling through the snow, cold and starving—after losing everything that mattered to him. He’s known what it’s like to have no one care about his whereabouts—and nothing would sting more than having to live with the knowledge that Will didn’t give a rat’s ass about where he ended up. His reputation and freedom mean nothing in comparison to his need for Will. He kneels in the snow just as he had decades prior—waiting for a savior to come and find him—because it’s the only thing he knows to do.

For three years he waits in the BSHCI for Will, his savior, to hopefully come and find him.

This is maybe a shot in the dark, but I record voice overs for a living and have become so intrigued by podfics! I know it can be a sensitive topic—asking writers for permission to create them—but would any of my Hannibal moots want one made of their fic?? Lmk!

does anyone else constantly think about the way Hannibal said "we will make it together" in 2x10 when he thought they were cooking freddie together... and weep at how excited and soft Hannibal sounded in that moment? babygirl was seriously falling in love 😭 imagine Hannibal being so excited to cook that meal with Will because it would be his very first time sharing the cannibalistic side of himself with someone he believed accepted him and wanted to share that aspect of his life; wanted to be close in a way he'd never been with anyone before. imagine young Hannibal eating alone after his very first kill and believing this was how it would always be; having to stay hidden and eat these particular meals alone because no one in their right mind would feel comfortable eating what he cooked and made into something beautiful if they knew.

then, Hannibal met Will. don't even get me started on Hannibal's shy smile when they were eating together after cooking because can you imagine all the emotions swirling inside his mind? of finally being seen and accepted? and Will is still here sitting at the table encouraging Hannibal's eating habits?

and then Hannibal learns it was all a ruse?

Had Hannibal stood in front of the bathroom mirror to practice mouthing silent, unspoken words—to make sure each motion of his lips and tongue, forming English vowels, would still flow with a familiar ease instead of a creaking jaw, stiffened from months of mutism?
