a quick psa to anyone recently getting into greek mythology and is a victim of tumblr and/or tiktok misconceptions:

-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings

-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)

-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)

-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)

-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same

-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well

-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped

-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt

-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians

-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be

-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia

-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that

-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told

-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions

-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect

-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think

greek mythology is so complex and interesting, don't go into it with preconcieved notions! try to be open to learn!

Mojang is NOT villainizing piglins.

I'm just gonna rant about this here since I keep seeing this take. I feel like a lot of you guys are taking too much of this piglin stuff at face value. Like, if you think Mojang is actively "demonizing" piglins or something, I straight up don't think you've been paying attention or looking at this with a critical eye. Piglins live in a cruel world. A harsh landscape which would obviously shape their societies to value strength and anything of the sort which would keep them alive. The Nether lacks certain resources, some of which is actually the fault of their ancestors.

Like, this is something we've known since the Nether Update came out.

I say this because there's actually reason for piglin society to be the way it is. It makes sense. Even so, piglins aren't inherently evil, even in the various games. Vanilla Minecraft is obvious. You can barter with them and hang around them if you wear gold. The piglin merchant from Minecraft Dungeons makes this point even more evident with the fact that they journeyed to the Overworld simply to set up shop.

They're completely passive to the player. They're not here to invade and they don't care if you wear gold or not.

In Minecraft Legends, it's a legend. A story passed down from generations. It doesn't necessarily reflect a full truth.

Even so, a lot of the piglins don't even seem to care about invading the Overworld too much. Two out of the three main piglin generals don't even actively participate in the invasion.

The boss known as the "Devourer," leader of the Horde of the Spore, doesn't do much besides send out additional forces to help with the invasion. They mainly just want to keep eating mushrooms.

The boss known as the "Beast," leader of the Horde of the Hunt, especially doesn't care for invading the Overworld. Throughout the cutscenes they appear in, they just want to hunt hoglins.

It straight up takes another piglin leader to step in before they actually do anything to help with the invasion.

Hell, these piglins get abused by their bosses for not complying or failing to accomplish what they must.

Even the bosses get abused by their bosses!

To think that they are all a truly malicious force is a gross generalization for you to take from all this. The truth is that it's complicated. The ones in power dictate what happens and that doesn't necessarily reflect the average piglin and what they want.

Ultimately, they comply out of fear. For their own security. And that's just what happens in a lot of empires with powerful leaders. Perhaps they don't even know better. The Nether is a tough place to live in. So, what's one more fight to them if they might have a chance to one day survive somewhere in a place without lava and ghasts everywhere. Especially if succeeding with also keep their bosses off their backs.

The piglins have a complicated past and that's fine and actually very realistic. If anything, I feel that Mojang has given the piglins the best kind of treatment, in this way. The most world building out of any Minecraft civilization. It just sucks to see when people don't realize that.

And with the movie, I feel it's largely the same as in Legends. Can you really tell me that piglins here are inherently an evil people? Look at this little guy.

Once again, it's the fault of their leadership and their cruel mentalities that have spawned and evolved long ago from living in a cruel world.

Anyway, my point is that there's just so much more nuance to this than just taking away "piglins bad" from Minecraft media.

The world(s) and their people

The Alllands (overworld)

the Alllands is the name of the realm the Hjaellin(Humans) , Levande (villagers), and Umevande (illagers) with the occasional visits from the Emberfolk and the Voidfolk, all connected through portals, magic, and the like. The Alllands is bountiful, lush, and vibrant, seasoned with cities that make earth cities small in comparison. full of art and innovation.

The all land is similar to earth, but locked in a progressive balance between machine and magic, cars to airships to dragon carried carriages and trains fueled by blazes the alllanders call this era "The Divergence Era." Where world leaders bickering on the use of which to progress with. Golems and familiars were made by those who tested the balance of magic and machine.

The Emberlands (nether)

The home to the emberfolk, Hjaellin, Enderlings, and Piglins who either stay for the thrill, or banished by all Alllander cities for heinous crimes. The ember had been described to be nothing more then a giant fire pit by the first who discovered this realm. The opposite to the Allland's green pastures and bustling cities, the ember only has ruins, and hard to come by foliage, with the sprouting of mushrooms the size of buildings and creatures that seemingly embody the element of fire.

Although the air of the allands is to thin for the Piglins, Hjaellin and piglins alike in the modern day, have made herbs and breathing apparatuses to help sustain the piglins who wish to live amongst the dimensions. While humans share the same treatments whn going into the nether.

The Voidlands (end)

The voidlands are home to the Voidfolk, humans who are forced to evolve to live a life in the end, and enderlings. There is no atmosphere, no breathable air for Hjaellins and Piglins, and yet there is gravity to the islands that float across the endless void, comparable to the oceans of the alllands.

As if to embody its name, the voidlands are inhabitable for Hjaellin and Piglin alike, but not for Enderlings, Enderlings are tall breathless beings who communicate using telepathy, some who keep their eyes revealed are Enderlings who embrace their nature, a flight or fight response triggered when another being stares into their eyes. Those who cover their eyes arent necessarily blind, but are outcasted by the society of enderlings.

Q: Can all races be paired with other races?

A: yes though only Alllanders races can have halfspawn, excluding golems as they are an artificial race

Q: Are the hostile/neutral races (piglin, enderman, and vindicators) evil?

A: no, my iterations can have their own motives to being evil/good. meaning you can have enderman merchants with an illager wife, or a piglin with a polycule with some golems they met/made Race Chart

Little headcanon as a treat 🤭

Mandrake would keep you holed up in Wrathwood, where you’d be safe and sound and always under constant protection, if he could. But there is something so attractive about you being able to fight and hold your own. Expect him to be very handsy and affectionate, especially if you save his ass, on the battlefield. That wont stop him from chastising you though. Ignore how hot his face is, he WILL nag at you about coming to his aid while trying to bandage either your wounds or his own while also trying to keep his hands off of you in front of the soldiers.

Mandrake foot and arm studies.

He walks on the balls of his feet, but at certain points in the movie he appears to rest on his whole foot while standing still. He doesn’t have claws, parse, but rather pointy fingertips that have a darker color than the rest of him. I like to imagine that they’re hard and therefore capable of doing some damage. That is, if he had to resort to using them. It doesn’t happen often.

The leafmen are smaller than hummingbirds, but noted to be two inches tall

But mice are huge and taller than them
