Be proud of the dumb, little thing you wrote, just because you wanted to write a dumb, little thing. Your writing doesn't need to be serious and award-winning for you to be proud of it.
So disappointed because I didn't have the chance to see this at the theater. I'd pay $20 to own this but not to rent for 48 hours. And let's not forget that $11.99 subscription fee to VEEPS. Come on guys.
Why do I feel like this needs to be a fic?
A study evolved into this rendered scene, i felt blue since it stormed today.

Tip jar
Aether and Rain are disgustingly affectionate but they don't make it anyone else's problem. Because Rain would rather die than have others know they're like this.
Under the cut: Stupid couple baby talk the morning after a heat. Rain's graphic memories but it isn't mixed with the baby talk. Not intended to be age regression. Just them being doofuses.
Rain wakes up with a deep, content peace and knows his heat is over.
Aether had played his role as stud well. He’d wrestled Rain into submission without any of his damn quintessence powers, forcing him to submit with sheer strength alone. Didn't even let up so Rain could strip naked, only pierced the fabric of his shorts with a claw and tore a neat line down the seam, exposing his hole, already dripping for Aether's cock. He’d pinned Rain's knees between his own, had Rain’s hands trapped in one of his own while the other scraped his claws across Rain's scalp. Palm tight to his skull before his fingers curled and Aether dragged Rain into a severe arch with his grip on his hair as he bullied his way inside, giving Rain the whole slide of his cock at once. Rain had sobbed, genuinely sobbed when the blunt head pushed up against the entrance to his brood chamber, sensitive and desperate to take in all the cum Aether had waiting for Rain in the heavy balls that slapped his thighs with every brutal thrust.
The rest of his memories were static, only flashes surfacing if Rain concentrates; he’d begged until his voice was hoarse, Aether grinding his face into the pillow to get him to shut up so he could focus. A firm grip on his hips that surely left bruises. Orgasm after orgasm until he was jelly underneath the cruel beast still driving his hips mercilessly into Rain. Finally being let go so he could wiggle away, gasping and panting only for Aether to drag him back on his cock so he could cum inside with a deep, possessive snarl.
All that seems so distant now, with Aether next to him deep in slumber. Still large, still a force to be reckoned with but his expression is peaceful and he's drooling on Rain's silk pillowcase. He studies the other ghoul, counting the faint freckles on his nose and forehead. The wrinkles at the corner of his eyes, eyes that had seemed to paralyze Rain with their intensity as he struggled. Out of curiosity, he reaches back and thumbs an eyelid up to expose the white and a half-moon of iris where it's rolled up in Aether's skull. He lets the delicate skin slide back into place, satisfied and deeply amused.
It's the kiss that wakes him, like Sleeping Beauty, when Rain presses his cool lips to Aether's forehead. He snuffles and closes his mouth, blinking open his bleary and unfocused eyes as Rain watches him.
“Want to get breakfast?” Rain asks. He has no idea what time it is but he doesn't want to be alone yet, this last phase of his heat still stubbornly clinging to him.
“Wanna stay here…” Aether slurs, words blending together in his exhaustion. “Wi’ m’Rainy baby…"
“Big guy still shweepy?” Rain can't help himself. Something about Aether being so cheesy like this does things that kill all his braincells and turns him into some cooing idiot.
“So shweepy…” Aether sighs, burrowing into the pillow. “...shweepiest big guy ever.”
“Aww…” Rain murmurs and throws an arm over Aether's shoulder, scratching the back of his neck as he plants a kiss on the tip of his nose. “My poor big guy.”
Aether starts to rumble in pleasure as Rain scratches him, leg shaking under the blanket like a dog’s. Rain moves to kiss him on the mouth and Aether pants into it, groaning in delight and pulling Rain in close.
“My big guy like that?” Rain asks, when Aether turns away from the kiss to breath. He pets softly over the nape of his neck, brushes his lips over Aether's cheek. “Huh? My big guys like his scratches?”
“Yeah,” Aether says with a chuckle as he stretches. “Yeah, your big guy likes his scratches.”
“Oh, big stretch.” Rain says in the same dopey tone as Aether groans and moves, popping several joints as he does. “Big stretch.”
“Big stretch.” Aether echoes, and flops back down. “Fuck, babe. ‘m starving. You want snackies?”
“Always down for snackies.” Rain replies. “Little snackies? Big snackies?”
“Big snackies for your big guy.”
“Biiig snackies for my biiig guy.”
If any of the others overheard the both of them talking like this, Rain thinks he would kill them. And then himself. He’d never stop though. Not when it makes Aether smile like that, at their own ridiculousness. Aether squeezes him in one last bear hug before reluctantly sitting up, sheets falling away from his body. Rain bites back the next bit of idiocy to come out of his mouth but doesn't resist grabbing at Aether's now exposed belly and tickling him. Aether yelps and slaps his hand away, tries to roll off the bed but only tangles himself in the sheets and goes down just about as hard as Rain did last night.
“Oh fuck!” Rain pushes himself up, trying to catch a glimpse of Aether on the floor. “You good?”
Aether groans.
“Owie…” he says quietly. “Rainy, baby… need kissies to make my head feel better.”
Rain pauses, then smiles despite himself.
“Kissies are on their way, big guy.” He says, and can't hide the chuckle when he hears a tired and subdued sounding yay in response.
________
“Waffles?” Rain guesses as he guides his poor, bruised quintessence ghoul down the hallway to the kitchen. Aether’s got a cooling gel eyemask clamped to his head in lieu of an actual icepack. Rain’s going to make it up to him. “Bacon? Pop tarts?”
“All of it.” Aether mutters, cracking an eye open to peek at Rain. “Please, Rainy?”
“Alright, alright.” he says fondly. “Whatever my big guy wants.”
He guides Aether (now limping for some reason, like he can't bear to do anything without Rain helping him, like Rain doesn't have a twang in his hips from Aether's dick) to the breakfast nook and gets him settled. Aether slumps over exaggeratedly, bemoaning his fate.
“You want some juice?” Rain asks. “Coffee?”
“Orange juice.” Aether whimpers, sounding truly pathetic. You’d think he was on his death bed. Rain kisses his temple and fetches the cup of juice without any complaints, even giving Aether an extra long straw to sip from in case he was simply too weary to lift up his thick skull.
“Belgian waffles, all the fixings?”
“Yes please.”
Contrary to popular belief, Rain can do things for himself. It's just that it's so much easier to get someone else to do it for him. But still, he's selfish. He doesn't want to share Aether with anyone yet, still feeling possessive in the lingering haze of his heat. He gets the box of pre-made out, adds the liquids and the eggs and finagles the waffle iron out of its cupboard cave, where it lives underneath Mountain’s favorite wok. He knows Aether's watching him, so he puts an extra sway in his hips and hums a little tune while he gets everything going.
“You're so pretty.” Aether says, propping his head on his elbow. Watching Rain pour the batter in and close the lid. “Why’re you so pretty, Rainy baby?”
“Sweet talker.” Rain says. “My big guy want sprinkles and frosting?”
“Big guy would love sprinkles and frosting, baby.”
The timer dings and Rain goes through the motions again until he's got a healthy stack of waffles for both of them. He sets the plate in front of Aether, nabs the frosting and sprinkles from their spots and sits down just as Swiss comes sidling in.
“Hey man.” Aether says in his normal voice and Rain bites his lower lip to hide his laugh. “Sup?”
“S’good, s’good,” Swiss says, opening the fridge to rummage through it. “Princess want waffles?”
Aether shoots Rain a glance. Rain’s too busy laughing, tears stinging his eyes as he hides his face in his hands.
“Yeah dude.” Aether said. “What Princess wants, Princess gets. You know how he is.”
“My man.” Swiss says, coming up with a monster energy drink. He passes by their table to give Aether a fistbump. “Rain, go easy on this guy, yeah? He's a softie, y’know. Needs someone to take care of him too.”
“I had no idea.” Rain says, struggling to keep his voice steady. He clears his throat. “Thanks Swiss.”
“No problem! Practice at noon, kay?” he gives them a salute and cracks the tab of his drink, licking up the foam as it spills out.
“Yup.”
“Uh-huh."
They wait until he leaves. Aether looks at Rain. Rain looks at Aether.
“Does my big guy like his waffles?” He whispers.
“Fuck yeah.” Aether says, picking up a fork and a knife to tear into his breakfast. “Your big guy likes his waffles, Rainy baby.”
They don't even make it five seconds before bursting into laughter.
“As of today it will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female.” Feeling numb and sorry for all our trans, nonbinary, and otherwise gender diverse friends out there. I am sorry that America voted against you. Know you still have allies out there even if our President is a POS.

[Dew is sick Swiss has some feelings about it. Contains discussion of being sick both in the sense of being unwell as well as in the physical sense. A fair bit of angst with a mild resolution at the end.] Below the cut.
When Dew gets sick, It starts with a weakness in his fingers, an inability to grip things in his hand without it feeling... off.
His muscles and joints feel loose and wrong, so he clenches his fists tighter, strains and tires himself without realizing until he can't manage simple tasks anymore.
His hands shake, and his sight goes to static at the edges, save for a strange, drifting clear spot in his vision, that has a filminess to it like a soap bubble without the rainbow sheen.
The pain doesn't set in right away, but the inability to focus his vision, combined by the sudden loss of his fine motor tells him it's only a matter of time before it does.
So when his hand refuses to close around the pen he's been using to scribble down notes with, he knows something's wrong... and he needs to deal with it before someone sees him.
Dew wets his lips, grateful to have caught things in the early stages, before his stomach has a chance to turn, before he feels that familiar numbness in the back of his throat...
He drops the pen onto the desk and closes his eyes, trying to strategize how exactly he's going to make it from his desk to his on suite bathroom without jostling himself too much.
He only needs to make it ten feet.
Why does that seem so far away now?
With great difficulty, Dew stands on unsure feet for only a moment before feeling lightheaded and dizzy.
"Shit." he staggers uncoordinatedly in one spot before carefully lowering himself to the ground, knees pressing into the hardwood, and crawls to the bathroom instead.
He can barely reach the handle from the floor, but when he does, the door refuses to budge, and Dew bumps against it weakly with his shoulder, accidentally knocking his head and wincing.
He really needs to get this thing fucking fixed.
His head and the damned door.
Dew grunts awkwardly, smacking his hand uselessly against the flat surface.
It doesn't even make a sound when his hand slaps it, looks more like he's drunkenly petting it if anything.
Fuck.
His eyes water, clouding his already hazy vision as the pain starts to really set in.
It's like someone stabbing him repeatedly in the head with a metal fork, but lifting each time to scrape against the insides of his skull, and the only thing he can think to do is press his face to the floor and hope it's cold enough to soothe the persistent pulsing in his brain.
He tries to breathe normally, keep himself from clenching his jaw, but it's hard.
His body feels impossibly heavy.
He shivers.
Across the room, he can hear his phone buzzing.
Someone's calling him, but he just closes his eyes, trying to block out the noise.
It's not easy, and the grating sound of it rattling against the desktop feels like a knife in his ear, but, eventually, he's more focused on keeping his stomach settled and his head cooled that he's too out of it to realize his bedroom door is opening.
.
.
.
When Dew opens his eyes again, he's in his bed, bundled up in a sweatshirt too big to be his own, propped up on his side by a pillow wedged under his back, and a blanket covering him from the waist down, so his legs stay warm, but ensuring that his tender stomach stays relatively cooler.
A cold compress falls from his neck as he lifts his head, looking around the room tiredly.
He's dully aware of two things as he comes back to himself.
His mouth tastes like... peppermint.
Whoever put him here also brushed his teeth, and...
There's a distinct smell of artificial lemons in the air, like the floor cleaner they use specifically for the wood floors when there's been a spill so it doesn't leave a stain.
He tries not to think about what the person needed to clean up besides, ya know, him.
Dew sniffs again, but something about the action causes a fleck of spit to go down the wrong tube, and he lets out a little cough, which quickly turns into a groan as the muscles in his abdomen contract.
"Ah, you're awake."
Dew makes a small, befuddled noise in the back of his throat, followed by a weary chirp when he sees Rain walk into the room, smiling at him.
Dew drags himself up into a sitting position, and Rain is quick to rearrange his pillows to keep him upright.
"...Did you clean up my... the mess?" he croaks, his throat feels painfully dry, "Ow..."
"Mm-mm." Rain shakes his head, uncapping a water bottle and handing it to Dew.
"Nah, that was Swiss, he's the one who found you on the floor. Said he was coming to show you something stupid he bought and... yeah."
Dew tries to lift the bottle to drink, but his hands are too shaky and he spills a little down the front of his shirt, pouting.
Seeing his predicament, Rain steadies the bottle enough for Dew to drink a few good sips of water before taking it back and setting it on the nightstand beside the bed, "Better?"
"Mn..." he clicks his tongue, "I feel like... a rock... a rock made of shit."
"That's... I have no idea if feeling like a coprolite is better or worse than you felt before, but I'm going to assume that means you're feeling... relatively okay?"
"Ehn." Dew shrugs, "...my head doesn't hurt anymore, but my stomach's being a bitch..."
"Do you think you're going to throw up again?" Rain asks, worriedly eyeing the bathroom door.
"No... it's just sore now." he says, sinking back into the pillows, looking around the room curiously, "...Where'd Swiss go?"
"To take a shower." Rain says, glancing at the floor.
Ah.
"...'m sorry." Dew mumbles and Rain just smiles sadly and pets his hair.
"If you want to apologize to properly, you've gotta rest up and get better, okay?"
Dew nods, purring sleepily as Rain scratches around his horns.
"Any idea what made you sick?" Rain asks and Dew shrugs.
"Mn, migraine maybe... dunno..." he tugs at his shirt, "...Whose is this? Is this a unicorn riding a... riding a motorcyle, what?"
"It's Cirrus'."
Dew pinches his eyes shut and grumbles, "How many of you saw me all... gross and shit?"
There's a brief pause of consideration before Rain responds.
"Uh... When Swiss found you, he kind of shouted and..."
Dew covers his face with his hands.
"...Fuuuck..."
"We didn't know what was happening and-" Rain cuts himself off, watching tears dribble down Dew's chin, "Dew? Dew, does something hurt?"
"'m fuckin' embarrassed, what the fuck..." he whines, turning away from Rain and smushing his face into the pillow.
"Dew, it's-"
"'s'not okay..." Dew mumbles, "...I don't even remember what happened between being on the floor and now, and you all... that's fuckin' stupid."
"How's it stupid?"
"...I'm stupid. This is stupid-"
"Dew-"
"-My body's fucking stupid!" Dew cries, whipping around and throwing the pillows off his bed in a fit, flopping back down only to kick the sheets off as well, sniffling angrily when they refuse to untangle from around his legs.
"I'm a fuckin' demon! I'm supposed to be tougher than this!"
"Dew." Rain says a bit more firmly, grabbing his knees, forcing his legs to still, "Dew, I know it's upsetting, but we've got this, yeah? We're gonna take care of you."
"I don't want that..." Dew wipes his eyes with the sleeve of Cirrus' sweatshirt, "Don't want it..."
"Don't want us to take care of you or..." Rain tries, lowering his voice.
"Don't want..." Dew rolls onto his side again, "...I don't... I don't like..."
Rain tilts his head and waits.
"...I don't..." he can't finish the sentence.
He doesn't even know how he's supposed to articulate what he's feeling right now aside from sick.
His brain feels like pudding and all he can keep thinking about is how all of them...
...All of them...
"...Don't like it when you see me... see me like that..." he says finally, picking at the mattress, "Just leave me on the floor next time, pretend you didn't notice-"
The door creaks open and Swiss enters with his arms crossed.
"You... you know we can't do that, right?" he scoffs, holding his hand up when Dew opens his mouth to argue, "Sorry, baby boy, but I... we don't like seeing you suffer as much as you seem to want to hide it, so, like, no."
Dew hisses, but feels the fight leaving him when Rain sends him a sympathetic look and kneads his shoulder soothingly.
Swiss enters the room fully and shuts the door part way, leaving it ajar, before sitting down on the end of his bed, just out of kicking range in case Dew throws another tantrum.
"...This is fucking humiliating..." Dew huffs, staring daggers at his ceiling fan.
"Which part? Your sweet new sleep shirt curtesy of Cirrus, or the fact that we all love you so much we wouldn't let you lie on the floor in agony?"
Dew tilts his head down to look at the shirt again.
"...The latter."
He does have to admit he likes the design, but that's not the point.
"Well, too bad. We love ya, and you're going to have to get used to that." Swiss teases, "But, really, dude... We were really worried."
Rain nods.
"I would have been fine..." Dew whispers, "Not my first rodeo with this shit, so..."
"And you know that's more concerning, right?" Swiss points out, "Cause here's the thing; I don't care if you don't care about your own wellbeing, I mean, I fucking DO because you should care, but that's not even... What I'm trying to say is, if you're not doing well, you can tell us, you know that, yeah?"
Dew frowns, returning to glaring at his ceiling.
"Dew..." Swiss sighs, "I..."
He takes a deep breath and leans forward to hold his hand.
"Have any of us... ever made you feel like it isn't safe to talk about this stuff?" he asks.
"...No."
"But, do you... feel like it's not safe to talk about it?"
Dew doesn't answer right away, but when he does, his voice wobbles a bit.
"Yeahh..."
Rain returns to petting Dew's hair, "We've got you."
Swiss gives his hand a reassuring squeeze.
At some point, Dew falls back asleep.
His dreams are nightmarish and provide little to no respite.
.
.
.
When Dew wakes, Rain is gone, but Swiss is lounging on his bed beside him scrolling through his phone, and Dew angles his head to take a peek at his screen.
"...Is that a dog or a cat?" he asks, his words a bit slurred from the way he's squished.
Swiss startles and almost drops his phone, "Jesus!"
He places a hand on his chest.
"I thought you were asleep!"
"I was." Dew mumbles, "...And now I'm awake."
"Thank you for the rundown, Captain Obvious.... Geez... You're scaring me a lot today, you know that?" Swiss pinches Dew's cheek and gives it a pull.
"Aughh diiidnth meean tooahh..." Dew says, "...'m thorry."
Swiss lets go of his face and sets his phone off to the side.
"You really did though." he says, ruffling Dew's hair, "I got scared seeing you on the ground like that, I didn't know what to do, and if... if something..."
He shakes his head.
"Actually, let's talk about that later, when you're better... How're you feeling now that you've slept some more?"
Dew yawns, "Weirdly more tired..."
Swiss snorts, "Yeah?"
"Yeah..." Dew wriggles closer to Swiss, looping his arm around his midsection and bumping his head against his chest.
"Whatcha doin' there, bud?"
"Lay down." Dew nudges him, "Sleep."
"Well, since you asked so politely..."
Dew lets Swiss go in order for him to get settled, resting his head on the pillow beside his.
"I'm still upset with you." Swiss informs him, but still allows Dew to snuggle up against his side, "...Glad you're not dead though."
"You thought I died?"
Swiss hums.
"You weren't responding when I called your name or shook you, so... yeah... yeah, I did." he says, resting his chin on top of Dew's head, "Aeth came running, made sure that... that you weren't... ya know."
"...Ah..."
"I..." Swiss swallows, voice cracking, "...Everybody was scared, but then you woke up! And we got you to answer some questions, and then... then you..."
"What did I do?" Dew asks nervously.
"You, uh, you... it was like the meme... You were just standing there, like dumbfounded about it, and meanwhile I'm over here like, 'BRO'..."
"This clears up nothing."
"You ruined my crocs."
"Oh. Ohhh..."
"Yeah."
They sit in silence for a moment while Dew processes this new information.
"...In hindsight, that's... that's at least a little funny." he says, "...Who brushed my teeth?"
"Oh that was Aeth and Rainy, they had a hell of a time getting into your bathroom, so they took you to Cirrus' room and got you all cleaned up. That's where we got the shirt and the shorts."
Dew lifts the blankets and stares.
Pink with white polka dots... what kind of cursed wardrobe is Cirrus hiding in her bedroom?
"After that, Mount made some weird tea and made you drink it, which, like, I don't know what was in that stuff-"
"Peppermint and chamomile with a sprinkling of ginger and two ibuprofen on the side!" Mountain calls from the other side of the wall.
Swiss blinks, "Damn the walls in this place are thin..."
"Anyway, you drank, like, two cups of that and zonked out, and that's about it. Still embarrassed?"
"Little bit... Less now that I know what happened... that's the scariest part." Dew confesses, "...It's the idea that something happened and I don't remember, but other people do, combined with... I dunno, not being able to stop it from happening to begin with..."
"Well... maybe a trip to the doctor is in order to help with that last part." Swiss says, rubbing Dew's back, "...Hey?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you, Dewboy."
"Love you, too."
"We all love each other, now go to bed already, some of us are trying to sleep!" Cirrus chimes in from across the hallway, sending a pillow through the open door.
"You're all ruining the moment!" Swiss complains.
"If everyone is awake right now, can someone get me a glass of water?" Sunny inquires.
"Didn't I already get you-"
Swiss gets up and closes the door.
"Bedtime?" he asks.
"Bedtime." Dew confirms, holding his arms out for Swiss to collapse back into.
He literally said it out loud.
There will be no more elections in the US going forward if Trump wins. It will be a Christian theocracy. Y'all really think you can organize anything to the left of Mussolini under a Trump Presidency? Get the fuck out of here.
I don't fucking care if Kamala Harris is imperfect, at least we don't risk literally losing democracy.

Mushy May Day 20: Gardening
Sunny, Rain, and Mountain plant strawberries in the Abbey garden.
Thank you to @forlorn-crows for putting Mushy May together, and to @ghuleh-recs for making the dividers <3
"Will these do?"
Mountain looks up, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. He knows he's left a smudge of dirt behind but can't bring himself to care. Rain's walking closer to the raised bed he's currently planting in, shirt rucked up to hold about three dozen stones. He's dripping wet, starting to dry off in the late spring sun, hair hanging in curtains around his face.
The angle is something Mountain doesn't get to see every day, the water ghoul actually looming over him on his knees.
"Lemme see, tadpole." Mountain shifts up on his knees as Rain gets close enough for him to examine the stones. They're all vaguely oblong, narrower at one end than the other, smoothed by years of the lake's waves lapping at them. "These are perfect," he says, glancing up at Rain until their eyes meet, emerald to aquamarine. "Sunny's got the paint. I've got about ten more of these to plant and then could I have you water for me?"
Rain smiles, revealing his serrated teeth. "Sure thing." He bends down to press a sweet kiss to the corner of Mountain's mouth, watching pleased as punch as a blush blooms over the earth ghoul's olive skin. "You've got a little," he gestures at Mountain's face.
"Come on, Rainy, you know better. A little dirt won't kill me," Mountain sighs, rolling his eyes as he smiles fondly at the water ghoul. "We're gardening, there's going to be some dirt."
Rain returns the fond smile, flicking the finned spade of his tail on the brim of Mountain's hat, something floppy to keep the sun out of his eyes. Rain, along with the rest of his packmates, finds it incredibly endearing. He turns, heading to where Sunny's sitting at one of Mountain's workbenches.
"I come bearing gifts, sunbeam," he says, dumping the rocks from the lake into a neat little pile in front of her. She glances up at him, a paintbrush tucked behind her pointed ear, curls bouncing softly as her head moves.
"Pretty," Sunny coos, though she's not looking at the rocks. Rain preens, patting the small of her back with his tail. She rolls her eyes playfully, grabbing his sleeve and pulling him down to sit next to her. She picks up a rock, examining the smooth, grey surface. "It's a shame we've got to paint them all red."
"You want strawberries come July?" Mountain asks. "We could just let the birds and critters get them, or we could put out the decoys."
"I know, string bean," Sunny laughs, taking the paintbrush from out behind her ear, shaking the little bottle of red craft paint she brought out and squeezing some onto a little plastic palette. She starts painting each rock, coating them in red, whistling something bright that carries through the gardens as she works.
Mountain barks a laugh at the nickname, turning back to his strawberry plants. He whispers in Ghoulish as he plants each one, encouraging words of earth magick and blessing. The lines of his knuckles and his fingernails are caked with soil.
Rain meanders back over. "I can start watering the one's you've done so far?" he asks, settling on his knees on the far side of the planter opposite Mountain.
He hums approvingly, examining another strawberry plant that they're repotting from the seedling containers. They're big enough now to go in the actual ground, let the roots expand down into the earth, leaves furling out to soak up the sun. There's twenty in total, the work meditative, especially as he catches glances of Rain, brow furrowed as he focuses, pulling moisture from the air and sinking it into the soil, nurturing and precise.
The three of them work quietly, soaking in their packmates' presence. The tip of Sunny's tongue peeks through her teeth as she focuses, making the stones look like strawberries, deterring the birds and fauna from nibbling on the plants when they eventually fruit. There's plenty of berry patches in the woods not a hundred feet from the gardens for them to forage from.
Sunny hums in satisfaction, setting aside her paintbrush and calling on her air and fire to dry the rocks, now painted to resemble perfectly ripe berries. She gathers them up just as Mountain finishes tamping down the soil around the last plant, scattering them around the garden bed.
Mountain groans as he stands, knees protesting and coveralls stained with grass and dirt. "We'll be eating good in no time," he hums, nudging his shoulder against Sunny's. "They'll be just as sweet as you."
Rain's head perks up from between two plants. "And what about me?"
Sunny and Mountain share a look, bursting into laughter.
Hi moon:) hope your doing good. Can you write a little tiny dew and CG ifrit? Like dew can’t sleep and ifrit helps get him to bed?🩷
(also I’d like to be 👽 anon if that’s okay)
Short little thing, hope it's ok 🩷
Cw: Dew's nightmares
It's one of those nights, the kind that Dew can't close his eyes even for a moment without wailing, voice cracking and big tears on his red cheeks. Plagued by memories they all wish they could steal away from him.
Aether was exhausted after a long shift and Mountain was busy with Swiss down at the greenhouse, Rain was in too much pain, and Cumulus was helping Cirrus…so Ifrit stepped in.
He took the baby from a half asleep Aether, wrapping him up in his firefly blanket and promising Aether he'd watch over him. He was reluctant to leave but he could barely keep his eyes open so he relented, only after making Ifrit promise to come get him if Dew needed him.
Ifrit laughs as Aether shuffles away toward his bedroom, casting one more glance back at Dewdrop.
“Just us for a bit, huh? You gonna sleep for me or should I make a pot of coffee?” He jokes, running his fingers over Dew's fuzzy little head.
He fusses, turning his head and sniffling. He's warm and uncomfy from crying and Ifrit can tell he's exhausted but he just can't get to sleep.
“Let's go for a walk, Flacără mică.” (Little flame)
He walks him down the quiet halls of the Abbey, switching from cradling him to holding him up against his shoulder so he can pat his back when he gets fussy again.
He hums when Dew whimpers, holding his good ear close so he can hear Ifrit's heart over whatever is going on in his mind. It seems to work a bit, the haze clears from his eyes but he's still not ready to settle so Ifrit keeps walking. He'd walk the whole world if he had to.
Eventually Dew's tummy grumbles and his eyes are slowly getting too heavy for him to fight and he nuzzles closer to Ifrit's warmth. He takes the walk back slowly, rubbing the baby's back and humming softly and singing under his breath.
“În pădurea cu alune
Aveau casă doi pitici.
Vine pupăza şi spune:
Vreau să stau şi eu aici!
Pu, pu, pu, pu, pu, pu,
Vreau să stau şi eu aici!
Pu, pu, pu, pu, pu, pu,
Vreau să stau şi eu aici!” (În pădurea cu alune(In the Forest by the Hazelnuts) )
Dew blinks at him, watching his mouth as he sings, pressing his little hand to Ifrit's chest to feel it too. The big fire ghoul smiles and continues his song as they make it back home.
He sways and bounces while the bottle heats up and Dew rests against his shoulder, still fighting sleep as hard as he can.
“Ok, little one, let's get comfy.”
Dew whines in his throat but Ifrit just kisses his forehead and carries him to the comfy rocking chair, fixing his blanket before they sit and Ifrit starts to rock them slowly.
“No seep…”
He almost jumps at the unexpected little voice but he catches himself and just smiles. “Ok, no sleep.”
Ifrit knows the baby means it but he also knows sleep will win his well fought battle, his eyes are already drooping as he drinks his bottle. He jerks awake when his eyes shut and he stares at Ifrit when he opens them again, checking to make sure it's still him.
“You're safe. I'd never let anything happen to you.” And he means every word. He's wrapped around Dew's little finger and there is nothing he wouldn't do to protect him.
When he stops drinking and it's clear he's fully asleep, Ifrit tucks the bottle beside him on the chair but continues to rock and hum for a bit longer just in case the nightmares start again.
He watches him sleep, smiling when his little face stays peaceful as he strokes his cheek. Once he's sure he won't wake up, he moves to the couch, laying down carefully with Dew tucked close to his side still sound asleep.
Ifrit doesn't sleep, too focused on the baby and making sure he stays settled, making sure he knows he's safe even as he sleeps because Ifrit is there, and nothing would ever get through him.
