without a hint of irony, absorbing a world-defining tragedy like the atomic bombing of Japan at the end of WWII, and processing that and transforming it into a parable on film starring a giant lizard with atomic breath is an incredible testament to the importance of art

but art is how we articulate things that feel too big or abstract to explain in simple words. It lets us experience catharsis and nostalgia and grief and fear and all these other things that we have words for but all of which fail to capture the *feeling* of experiencing them

its a powerful thing to take a tragedy and explore your thoughts on it *with* others. and maybe that’s why shit like AI art is so abhorrent. art is communication beyond simple information. it’s a genuine connection. a quiet discourse between two parties, maybe across centuries. you could tell an AI to create a giant lizard with atomic breath, and you might get something passable. but in a vacuum if you asked an AI to create an image of unimaginable loss and world-shattering change seen through the lens of folkloric storytelling. you wouldnt get godzilla.

if you don’t have the guts to say those secret words yourself, don’t tell me a machine you feed them into is speaking from the heart. just do it yourself. pen and paper. if you’ve really got something to say, you’ll figure it out.
