The reason why I ship Bushroot and Liquidator together is because plants do need water and saw bits of interaction in the show (Liquidator always carries Bushroot). I also think the relationship between the two is cute đĽ°.
After rewatching Justice Ducks and reading some fics, I grew to adore Liquiroot. They are great together and I wish they had as much moments as Quackervolt.
Since Iâve seen a few fans talking about how they would write S4, it got me curious to know what you guys thought. I donât have that much of an idea since almost every storyline was closed, but Iâll give it a shot.
So, my main plot point for S4 would be a sort of Scrooge redemption arc. If anyone has seen The Life & Crimes of Scrooge McDuck then you know what Iâm going to be talking about.
Glomgold and Ma Beagleâs stories wonât be included since they werenât particularly terrible. Though, they do show Scroogeâs selfish nature and non-accountability of how his actions affect people. What I will be talking about is Magicaâs story. I donât feel super bad for Poe and Magica since they terrorized innocent villagers, but what Scrooge did was not good. Magica was willing to through everything away if he helped her and Poe; instead Scrooge ridicules her and steals the villagerâs money. Magicaâs terrorizing could have ended right there.Â
And thatâs not even the worst part. Scrooge then took advantage of the villagerâs situation to make a profit and left them once he was done. He didnât help them or anything; sure he didnât have magic but he could have at least tried. I was super annoyed when the writers swept those issues under the rug after this episode.
Actually watching Scrooge trying to fix his mistakes would be way more convincing than an apology (which was pretty half-assed, I must say).
Season 4 would be Scroogeâs season.
As for the main villain, maybe a group from that village who are still resentful towards Scrooge. They donât have to be big villains like Bradford; just ones that affect Scrooge and his family.
I would also add Poe since he has so much potential and can give Magica some good development.
I was inspired by @mothercetrion headcanon on Johnnyâs past. You should visit their page and read some of their posts. They are very well-written! I like to connect songs with characters so I thought doing a headcanon post with songs would be a good idea. Iâm also working on a regular headcanon post for Johnny as well. I love his MK1 version and feel the need to write about it. Lmk if I should make a Spotify playlist so all the songs are in one place.
TW: Heavy angst (Mention of bullying, alcoholism, parental abuse, domestic violence, and broken marriage)
I Started a Joke by Bee GeesÂ
- âI started a joke. Which started the whole world crying. But I didnât see. That the joke was on me, oh no. I started to cry. Which started the whole world laughing. Oh, if Iâd only seen. That the joke was on me.âÂ
Unfortunately, I firmly believe that Johnny was bullied and abused in his childhood. Most people who have an egotistical facade usually create that personality to protect themselves from horrible treatment. Johnny mentioned having daddy issues and an asshole brother he barely(if any) has contact with. I think his dad and, later, his brother tormented him for a long time, which I will further explain in another song. I want to focus on school bullies. Johnny seems to have always wanted to be an actor, so I think he focused on the performing arts like theatre, singing, and dancing. Sadly, it's not considered masculine to do those activities- a prime target for bullying. This treatment causes Johnny to feel like a joke to everyone.Â
- âTil I finally died. Which started the whole world living. Oh, if Iâd only seen. That the joke was on me.âÂ
This meant figuratively that Johnnyâs original personality âdiedâ and was replaced by his well-known facade to protect him from the bullying and stop him from feeling the pain.Â
Blown Away by Carrie Underwood
-âDry lightning cracks across the sky. Those storm clouds gather in her eyes. Her daddy was a mean old mister. Mama was an angel in the ground.âÂ
Johnny notices his parentsâ turbulent relationship. His dad is an awful man and his mom is a kind person being tormented by her husband.
-âShe heard those sirens screaming out. Her daddy laid there passed out on the couch. She locked herself in the cellar. Listened to the screaming of the wind. Some people called it taking shelter.âÂ
Johnnyâs hiding from one of his parentsâ violent arguments. His room is his hiding spot- a shelter and a prison- but it doesnât protect him from hearing the arguments. The sirens are symbolic of Johnnyâs mother since she used to be a police officer (an intro with Li Mei confirms it), so she is screaming at Johnnyâs father who loves his life drinking and sleeping.Â
-âThereâs not enough rain in Oklahoma. To wash the sins out of that house. Thereâs not enough wind in Oklahoma. To rip the nails out of the past (blown away)âÂ
The awful memory leaves Johnny wishing that his childhood home could be destroyed with no trace, though he knows it will never erase what heâs gone through.
Numb by Linkin Park
- âIâm tired of being what you want me to be. Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface. Donât know what youâre expecting of me. Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes. Every step that I take is another mistake to you (Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow).â
Johnny was abused by his father. He was pressured to be like his dad but would make âmistakesâ (be himself), leading to his father lashing out at him. His dad is obsessed with masculinity and being a âtraditionalâ man, which he pushes into Johnny. This puts them at odds since the performing arts (Johnnyâs aspirations) are not considered masculine.Â
- âIâve become so numb. I canât feel you there. Become so tired. So much more aware. Iâm becoming this. All I want to do. Is be more like me. And be less like you.â
The constant pressure makes Johnny numb to the abuse and more aware of his fatherâs behavior. He wants the opportunity to be himself and the weight to lift off him.Â
- âCanât you see that youâre smothering me. Holding too tightly, afraid to lose control? âCause everything that you thought I would be. Has fallen apart right in front of you.âÂ
Heâs questioning his fatherâs behavior and needs to control him and the rest of the family (his mother and siblings).Â
- âAnd I know. I may end up failing too. But I know. You were just like me with someone disappointed in you.â
Johnny fights back and decides to break the generational trauma cycle he and his dad have unwittingly been trapped in. His dad was in Johnnyâs position and hated it, but decided to continue the cycle rather than end it.
Applause by Lady GagaÂ
- âI stand here waiting for you to bang the gong. To crash the critic saying, âIs it right or is it wrong?â If only fame had an I.V, baby could I bear? Being away for you, I found the vein, put it in here.â
From some of his intros, Johnny sometimes gets defensive whenever anyone talks down about his career, and the first thing he brings up is how he makes his fans happy with his work. This makes me believe that Johnny loves his fans and they are the biggest reason he stays in Hollywood.
- âI live for the applause, applause, applause. I live for the applause-plause, live for the applause-plause, live for the way that you cheer and scream for me. The applause, applause, applause. Give me that thing that I love (Iâll turn the lights out). Put your hands up, make âem touch, touch (Make it real loud). Give me that thing that I love (Iâll turn the lightd out). Put your hands up, make âem touch, touch (Make it real loud).âÂ
For the first time in his life, Johnny is appreciated for his aspirations and it feeds into his need to feel wanted and accepted. He wants the applause and love to grow.Â
- âIâve overheard your theory, âNostalgiaâs for geeks.â I guess sir, if you say so, some of us just like to read. One second Iâm a Koons fan, suddenly the Koons is me. Pop culture was in art, now artâs in pop culture, in me.âÂ
Since Johnny is inspired by 80s action stars, critics condemn him for not being authentic. Johnny doesnât care and, because of the love he gets, he considers himself to be a part of pop culture.Â
Liability by LordeÂ
-âBaby really hurt me, crying in the taxi. He donât know me. Says her made the big mistake in my storm. Says it was poison.âÂ
This reminds me of Johnnyâs chapter where Steven- the director- whom Johnny mightâve considered a friend, doesnât seem to like him and purposefully distances me. This makes me believe that Johnny doesnât have many friends because they donât like his boastful, outgoing personality.Â
- âSo I guess Iâll go home. Into the arms of the girl that I love. The only I havenât screwed up. Sheâs so hard to please, but sheâs a forest fire.â
With not having many friends and his marriage on the rocks, Johnny feels alone and feels he can only count on himself. Based on his intro with Kenshi about doing forty takes, it seems like Johnny is a perfectionist, so it wouldnât be surprising if that sentiment extends to everything he does. Thatâs why he has this facade where he constantly inflates his ego and his capabilities because, on the inside, Johnny is hard on himself and has trouble finding his good qualities.Â
- âThey say âYouâre a little too much for me. Youâre a liability. Youâre a little much for me.â So they pull back, make other plans. I understand, Iâm a liability. Get you wild, make you leave. Iâm a little much for everyone.âÂ
Johnny accepts that heâll never have a true connection with someone, so he makes them leave sooner before they hurt him.Â
- âThe truth is I am a toy that people enjoy. âTill all of the tricks donât work anymore. And then they are bored of me. I know that itâs exciting running through the night, but every perfect summerâs eating me alive until youâre gone. Better on my own. Theyâre gonna watch me disappear into the sun. You're all gonna watch disappear into the sunâÂ
This pertains to Johnnyâs faltering career. He was a popular actor for a long time until it ran dry. It eats him up to see people- fans, his wife, and Hollywood- grow bored and annoyed with him. By the end of his chapter, heâs alone and feels hopeless.Â
Midnight Rain by Taylor SwiftÂ
- âMy town was a wasteland. Full of cages, full of fences. Pageant queens and big pretenders. But for some, it was paradise.âÂ
Johnnyâs world is Hollywood and the American dream. He wants to be the biggest star and feel at home in the acting business.Â
- âMy boy was a montage. A slow motion, love potion. Jumping off things in the ocean.â
I see Cris as someone who wanted a simple life full of love and family. She was supportive of Johnnyâs dream but didnât have his drive to live the Hollywood life. She expected Johnny to settle down once his career dwindled.Â
- âHe was sunshine, I was midnight rain. He wanted it comfortable. I wanted that pain. He wanted a bride. I was making my own. Chasing that fame. He stayed the same. All of me changed like midnight.âÂ
Johnny and Cris are different people with opposing goals. Cris wanted a comfortable life and Johnny to focus on their relationship, while Johnny was consumed in his dreams and staying relevant.Â
- âIt came like a postcard. Picture perfect, shiny family. Holiday, peppermint candy. But for him itâs everyday. So I peered through a window. A deep portal, time travel. All the love we unravel. And the life I gave away.â
If one of them conformed to what the other wanted instead of compromise, they wouldâve given away their dream life and lost their love.Â
- âI guess sometimes we all get just what we wanted, just what we wanted. And he never thinks of me. Except when Iâm on TV. I guess sometimes we all get some kind of haunted, some kind of haunted. And I never think of him. Except on midnights like this.âÂ
By the end of their marriage, Johnny and Cris barely connect with each other. Cris lives her own life and only sees Johnny when his movies are on TV. Johnny is so busy with work and doesnât focus on his personal life until heâs home late at night. Â
Anti-Hero by Taylor SwiftÂ
(This kind of continues my thoughts from âLiabilityâ by Lorde.)Â
- âI have this thing where I get older but just never wise. Midnights become my afternoons. When my depression works the graveyard shift. All of the people Iâve ghosted stand there in the room. I should not be left to my own devices. They come with prices and vices. I end up in crises (tale as old as time). I wake up screaming from dreaming. One day Iâll watch as youâre leaving. âCause you got tired of my scheming (for the last time).â
Even though Johnny knows his career is dwindling, Johnny continues to work and revive it- something Hollywood people would consider unwise. His fears and depression leave him up at night and thinks about the people who left him and people he had to step over to make it in showbiz. His deepest fear is everyone he cares about- Cris and his fans- leaving him because they become bored of him. This is where he develops his alcoholism (this will be explained in another song).Â
- âItâs me, hi, Iâm the problem, itâs me. At tea time, everybody agrees. Iâll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror. It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero.â
Johnny knows his alcoholism is messing up his relationship with Cris but is scared of facing it, making him the anti-hero in the story.Â
- âSometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby. And Iâm a monster on the hill. Too big to hang out, slowly lurching toward your favorite city. Pierced through the the heart, but never killed.âÂ
It goes with how Hollywood works- younger, prettier actors have a higher standing than older actors. Johnny feels like people see him as a monster who ruins things, but they arenât willing to âkillâ his ambition.Â
- âI have this dream my daughter in-law kills me for the money. She thinks I left them in the will. The family gathers âround and reads it and then someone screams out. âSheâs laughing up at us from hell.âÂ
Johnny fears his ambition will kill him and that the people who donât care about him will take advantage of it.Â
Rehab by Amy WinehouseÂ
- âThey tried to make me go to rehab, but I said, âNo, no, no.â Yes, Iâve been black, but when I come back, youâll know, know, know. I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks Iâm fine.âÂ
Cris is trying to get Johnny to go to rehab for his alcoholism, but he refuses because he wants to focus on reigniting his career and he reasons that nobody else is concerned.Â
- âIâd rather be at home with Ray. I ain't got seventy days. âCause thereâs nothing, thereâs nothing you can teach me. That I canât learn from Mr. Hathaway.âÂ
Johnny wants to continue working and being at home. He doesnât think he has a problem and, if he did, Johnny doesnât think anyone can help.Â
- âThe man said âWhy do you think you are here?â I said, âI got no idea.â Iâm gonna, Iâm gonna lose my baby. So I always keep a bottle near. He said, âI just think youâre depressed.â This, me: âYeah, baby, and the rest.ââ
Johnny goes to a therapist (Cris gave him an ultimatum). The therapist tells Johnny that itâs just depression and to stop drinking. Johnny canât seem to stop because drinking takes away the pain heâs feeling.Â
- âI donât ever wanna drink again. I just, ooh, I just need a friend. Iâm not gonna spend ten weeks. Have everyone think Iâm on the mend. Itâs not just my pride. Itâs just till these tears have dried.â Â
Johnny hates drinking but feels like itâs the only way to escape his loneliness and stress. Heâs scared that his career will be over and his fans will leave him if he goes to rehab.Â
Hollywood by MARINAÂ
- âAmerican queen is the American dream. American queen is the American dream.â
This is the mantra Johnny says to motivate himself to continue his career.
- âI asked her âWhy would you wanna be a Hollywood wife?â âBecause I donât wanna end up living in a dive on Vine.âÂ
Johnny doesnât want to live a life less than his dreams. Heâll do anything to live his dreams.Â
- âTrying to stimulate a mind. That is slowly starting to decay. I itch my skin, I jump up and say. Lady, I know why your thoughts turn gray.â
Exhaustion and alcohol are infecting Johnnyâs brain and dulling his thoughts. Heâs barely present in his personal life- marriage and home.Â
- âHollywood infected your brain. You wanted kissing in the rain. Oh oh, (Iâve been) living in a movie scene. Pukin American dreams. Oh oh, Iâm obsessed with the mess thatâs America. Iâm obsessed with the mess thatâs America.âÂ
The price of striving for fame is catching up to Johnny, yet heâs willing to ignore it due to being obsessed with his desires.Â
- âA fat security making plays for me. As soon as I touch down in, old L.A., he said⌠âOh my god, you look just like Shakira. No no, youâre Catherine Zeta.â Actually, my nameâs Marina.â
This is a reference to how Hollywood has a surplus of stars that can overshadow each other. Since Johnny is no longer a big star, people mistake him for a lookalike. His individualism in the industry is dying.
Oh No! by MARINA (& The Diamonds)Â
- âDonât do love, donât do friends. Iâm only after success. Donât need a relationship. Iâll never soften my grip. Donât want cash, donât want card. Want it fast, want it hard. Donât need money donât need fame. I just want to make a change. I just wanna change.â
Johnnyâs obsession evolves into him ignoring everything- his relationships and income- to maintain and grow his success.
- âI know exactly what I want and who I want to be. I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine. Iâm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy. Oh! Oh no! Oh no! Oh, no, oh!â
His singular goal can be compared to a program, making Johnny out to be a machine. Heâs also realizing that his alcoholism is leading him into a similar path to his fatherâs. This could be seen as a self-fulfilled prophecy because children usually copy their parentsâ behavior, even the bad ones, and the phrase âlike father, like son.â It terrifies him.Â
- âOne track mind, one track heart. If I fail, Iâll fall apart. Maybe it is all a test. âCause, I feel like Iâm the worst. So I always act like Iâm the best.â
Johnny wonders if his downfall is karma since he had to step over people to build his career or a test of his character. The last two lines reference his feelings of inadequacy due to his childhood and the birth of his movie star persona.
- âIf you are not very careful. Your possessions will possess you. TV taught me how to feel. Now real life has no appeal. It has no appeal.âÂ
In his chapter, Johnny tells Cris that they canât cut back on cash because acting like a success makes people perceive you that way. This shows how Johnny's spending habits are consuming him.Â
During his childhood, Johnny coped with his fatherâs abuse and his mother working all the time by watching TV. TV raised Johnny, and it made his reality- good or bad- unappealing.Â
- âIâm gonna live, Iâm gonna fly. Iâm gonna fail, Iâm gonna die. âIâm gonna live, Iâm gonna fly. Iâm gonna fail, Iâm gonna die, die, die, die, die.âÂ
Johnny identifies failing as dying and succeeding as living. He thinks retiring his career will kill his confident persona and revert him to the sad child he was.Â
Are You Satisfied? By MARINAÂ
-âI was pulling out my hair. The day I got the deal, chemically calm. Was I meant to feel happy that my life was about to change?âÂ
Because of his health issues- alcoholism and depression, Johnny is starting to feel numb towards his work, to the point where getting a role doesnât excite him.Â
-âOne life pretending to be the cat who got the cream. Oh, everybody said, âMarina is a dreamer.â People like to tell you what youâre gonna be. Itâs not my problem if you donât see what I see. And do not give a damn if you donât believe.âÂ
Johnny is reminded of the people in his childhood who called him a dreamer and tried to tell him what he should do with his life. He never saw why his life was anyoneâs problem.Â
-âMy problem, itâs my problem. That I never am happy. Itâs my problem, itâs my problem. On how fast I will succeed. Are you satisfied with an average life? Do I need to lie to make my way in life?âÂ
With no big payoff, Johnny starts to ponder if an average life will satisfy him and make him happy. If not, does he have to start lying to himself and others to continue his Hollywood life.Â
-âHigh achiever, donât you see? Baby, nothing comes for free. They say Iâm a control freak. Driven by a greed to succeed. Nobody can stop me.â
One of his intro with Kenshi has the latter complaining about doing forty takes with Johnny arguing that the shot has to be perfect. It lead me to believe that Johnny is a perfectionist since he is driven by his need to succeed.Â
-âCause itâs my problem if I want to pack up and run away. Itâs my business if I feel the need to smoke and drink and sway. Itâs my problem, itâs my problem if I feel the need to hide. And itâs my problem if I have no friends and feel I want to die.âÂ
Johnny realizes his problems yet doesnât push himself to get the help he needs. He thinks no one except him could handle his issues. Johnny feels that itâs his fault that he let alcohol control his life, has depression, and has no friends.Â
-âAre you satisfied with an easy ride? Once you cross the line, will you be satisfied? Sad inside in this life, unsatisfied, prayinâ. Sad inside in this life, unsatisfied, waitinâ.âÂ
He wonders again whether regular life with more simplistic issues will satisfy him and if he should cross the line and consider letting go of his career. The difficult decision makes it more despondent and he prays for an answer. He finds his answer by the end of the game- to step back from the industry for a while and focus on his personal life. Â
The Reason by HoobastankÂ
-âIâm not a perfect person. Thereâs many things I wish I didnât do. But I continue learning. I never meant to do those things to you. And so, I have to say before I go. That I just want you to know.âÂ
After going through therapy, training at Wu Shi Academy, and the Outworld adventure, Johnny realizes his mistakes and wants to apologize to Cris before they go their separate ways.Â
-âIâm sorry that I hurt you. Itâs something I must live with everyday. And all the pain I put you through. I wish that I could take it all away. And be the one catches all your tears. Thatâs why I need you to hear.â
He realizes the full extent of pain Johnny put her through. Heâs remorseful and wishes he could go back to listen and comfort her.Â
-âIâve found a reason for me. To change who I used to be. A reason to start over new. And the reason is you. Iâve found a reason to show. A side of me you didnât know. A reason for all that I do. And the reason is you.â
Johnny wants Cris to know how much heâs grown and will be a better person. Although sad it had to come to it, Johnny thanks Cris for letting him go since it led him to get the help he needed and continue to heal old wounds he kept hidden.Â
..................
BONUS (These songs are from Crisâ point of view to Johhny.):Â
All I Wanted by ParamoreÂ
- âThink of me when youâre out, when youâre out there. Iâll beg you nice from my knees. And when the world treats you way too fairly. Well, itâs a shame Iâm a dream. All I wanted was you.â
Every time Johnny leaves for his hours-long shoots, Cris hopes he thinks of her, but knows that sheâll always be second to his career. Although their marriage was always on her mind.Â
- âI think Iâll pace my apartment a few times. And fall asleep on the couch. And wake up early to black-and-white reruns. That escaped from my mouth.âÂ
When Cris is alone, she wanders through their house and watches movies. She mostly watches Johnnyâs movies to fill the hole of him not being with her most of the time.Â
- âI could follow you to the beginning. Just to relive the start. And maybe then weâd remember to slow down. At all of our favorite parts.âÂ
Cris would do anything to have a semblance of their old relationship- before Johnny got famous- back. She hopes that if it happens then Johnny will be more attentive, and they can live a happy life.Â
Call Me When Youâre Sober by EvanescenceÂ
- âDonât cry to me, if you loved me. You would be here with me. You want me, come find me. Make up your mind.âÂ
Cris is frustrated with Johnny and tells him that if he loved her then he would pay attention to her and her needs instead of his career.Â
- âShould I let you fall, lose it all. So maybe you can remember yourself? Canât keep believing. Weâre only deceiving ourselves. And Iâm sick of the lie. And youâre too late.âÂ
Cris contemplates letting Johnnyâs alcoholism overtake him since he never listens to her advice on going to therapy or rehab. She also thinks that letting him fall could bring back John Carlton, the man she fell in love with.Â
- âCouldnât take the blame, sick with shame. Must be exhausting to lose your own game, selfishly hated. No wonder youâre jaded. You canât play the victim this time. And youâre too late.â
Cris is tired of being responsible for Johnny's health and reducing his problems to inconveniences. She wants him to stop playing the victim and take responsibility because she canât take care of him anymore.Â
- âYou never call me when youâre sober. You only want it âcause itâs over, itâs over.âÂ
Their relationship only revolves around Johnnyâs career and alcoholism instead of their love.Â
Losing Grip by Avril LavigneÂ
-âAre you aware of what you make me feel? Baby. Right now I feel invisible to you, like Iâm not real. Didnât you feel me lock my arms around you? Whyâd you turn away? Hereâs what I have to say. I was left to cry there. Waiting outside there. Grinning with a lost stare. Thatâs when I decided.â
Cris is frustrated at Johnny being distant and inattentive. It makes her feel invisible and unimportant in his life. She questions why he acts this way when he should be treating her like his wife. It leaves her feeling desperate and lonely, but she hides it with a smile.Â
-âWhy should I care? âCause you werenât there. When I was scared. I was so alone. You, you need to listen. Iâm starting to trip. Iâm losing my grip and Iâm in this thing alone.âÂ
Cris wonders why sheâs even staying in the marriage. Sheâs scared of losing Johnny to his alcoholism and his obsession with work; as well as the financial troubles that were accumulating. Instead of listening and being there for her, Johnny decides to ignore the problems, making her feel alone in their marriage.Â
-âAm I just some chick you place beside you to take somebodyâs place? When you turn around can you recognize my face? You used to love me, you used to hug me. But that wasnât the case. Everything wasnât okay.â
Cris starts to think Johnny only wants her around to fill a role anyone can take such as a caregiver (not his intention). She sees Johnnyâs eyes go through her like sheâs a stranger and he rarely gives her affection. Unfortunately, Johnnyâs exhaustion from working and alcoholism affects his ability to focus on whatâs going on around him.Â
-âWhy should I care? âCause you werenât there. When I was scared. I was so alone. Why should I care? If you donât care then I donât care. Weâre not going anywhere.âÂ
Cris continues pondering about their marriage, though it ends with her deciding that sheâs exhausted her commitment to the marriage and has to leave before it further destroys her.
(Note: Although I donât like Sylki, I donât have a problem with anyone who ships them.) Warning: Internalized Homophobia Mention
Two weeks ago, I binged the Loki series. To put it shortly, I loved it! Loki has one of the best character development Iâve ever seen. He moved past his insecurities and realized what he truly wanted- to be loved and seen. The time aspect was easy to digest and didnât complicate or overinflate the concept too much. I loved the new characters, especially Mobius and O.B. Mobius and Lokiâs chemistry was amazing and so natural, which makes sense since Mobius was his first friend. O.B. was lovable and so nerdy. I hope they both return to future projects. Though I didnât connect with her as much, B-15 was a good addition, and would be happy to see her return. When it comes to Sylvie, I'm mixed with her. Sheâs well-written for the most part, but I didnât like the Sylki romance in S1, and her attitude got irritating in S2 (I'll most likely write a separate post on it). Alongside thinking Loki being attracted to a version of himself is weird, their romance felt rushed and unnatural. I couldnât really see Loki being attracted to/like/in love with someone that quickly and Sylvie looked like she barely tolerated him, even in the second season. Honestly, I think this romance was pushed by Disney instead of the writers, mainly because there was a moment in Episode 4 where Mobius rants about how strange the attraction was. Iâd like to think that was the writers calling out Disney for how weird this idea was. I wouldâve liked it more if Loki and Sylvie had a sibling-like relationship. I wouldâve written it where Loki feels protective of Sylvie because he sees a bit of himself in her such as his anger, loneliness, and wish to belong somewhere. But, he also respects her because she lived alone and in survival mode, teaching herself how to use magic and escape death. In turn, Sylvie sort of resents Loki, especially when he mentions his relationship with Frigga, since he lived in Asgard and had a family while she lived alone and in fear. I would have a scene where Sylvie lashes out at him (maybe when he accidentally breaks the Tempad), calling him a fool for taking his familyâs love for granted. On the other hand, Loki snapped and said how she had the chance to be her true self while Loki lived under Thorâs shadow and Asgardâs expectations. Maybe go as far as to mention how he felt he had to hide his bisexuality and genderfluidity out of fear of not being accepted. By the end of the argument, both realize how their pain does not absolve others and that there is good and bad in their lives. Other than the kiss scene, the scene with Loki trying to stop Sylvie from killing He Who Remains was great.Â
I was so glad S2 left the ship behind. It was one of the reasons why I think S2 is a big improvement. I canât really describe their relationship since there are moments when they get along but there are others when Sylvie is really standoffish and doesn't seem to like Loki. Maybe the closest description would be bickering siblings, which is close to what I wanted.
Did anyone else get nervous that there would be a Sylki kiss in the S2 finale? I was, especially when he was trying to stop her from killing HWR again. If they did, it would've messed with my enjoyment since there was no indication in previous episodes that they were continuing the romance. Thankfully, they didn't and the finale was perfect, even if it broke my heart that Loki will live alone for as long as he's alive. I wanted him to be happy with everyone.
-I imagine Rise Usagi as a teenager like Rise Leo. All Leos and Usagis are in the same age range.- *2003 & 2012 Leonardos having a conversation*
2012 Leo: So, anything going on with your version of Usagi? *asks shyly and awkwardly*
2003 Leo: *slightly blushing* What?
2012 Leo: Donât worry. Me too. *winks*
2003 Leo: *relieved* Not great, it would be better-
2003 & 2012 Leos: if he didnât keep brotherzoning me.
*both surprised*
2003 Leo: He does it to you too.
2012 Leo: Yeah, and I can trying to get out of it.
*Rise Leo suddenly shows up*
Rise Leo: I donât know about you guys. *brings out Rise Usagi(his boyfriend)* But Neon Leon is doing fantabulous!
So, this version of April is pretty controversial, especially beyond this community. Many fans accuse her of being a toxic, manipulative women. Even some fans would use derogatory words. For me, she is not so bad. Not my favorite, but pretty okay.
Iâm not trying to convince others to change their minds. I respect everyoneâs opinions because everyone matters is many ways. All I want to do is explain how I see April and get some of you guysâ opinions.
Hope you enjoy this analysis! And comment down below if you would like me to analyze another character.
Anyway, here we go.
The Main Issues
Season 2:
This season was where it all began with April hate train.
I think almost everyone can agree that April wasnât so bad in season one, maybe even likable. At least, I did.
But all that potential love went down the drain once season two started.
The first episode, called âThe Mutation Situation,â takes place a few months after they defeat the Kraang and the Shredder disappeared. Everything seemed fine since Aprilâs dad was back and the city hadnât been attacked. But, the Turtles once again have to face the Kraang and stop them from transporting their mutagen supply. They asked for April and her dadâs help to find the ship, though she had to trick him into doing it. The four brothers destroyed the ship, but they paid the price because all of the mutagen in the ship fell off, scattered across the city. One of the vials was going to drop on April, except her father took the hit and mutated into a human-sized bat.
Kirby kidnaps April and the guys have to save her. Once they did, Michelangelo reveals that him and his brotherâs were indirectly responsible for the incident.
April gets so mad and storms off, wishing to never see them again.
Okay, so from my perspective, I understand why April broke down and said those hurtful things the first time. She went through a lot during the first season. With her dad being held captive for so long, getting kidnapped and probed by the Kraang, and being forced to relinquish most of her old life.
Iâm surprised she isnât even a bit traumatized.
When April believed the Kraang were defeated and her dad was safe, she was happy to have her life back in some kind of order. Yet, in basically a day, that whole dream died right in front of her. She was tired of all the fighting, and lost it when she realized she would have to again. In her irrational, emotional mind, I think she was angry at the turtles for more than just accidentally mutating her dad. She associated them as the start to all the craziness she didnât want.
After everything she went through, April was desperate to have some clarity that she was willing to throw away her close friends.
Iâm not saying that she shouldnât have apologized. April needed to apologize.
What I didnât condone from this arc was her yelling at Donnie in âTarget: April OâNeil.â She went a bit off line and at least shouldâve had some sense in what she was saying. Maybe Donnie practically stalking got her upset, but I get why people would get upset with her over that.
 The Love Triangle:
This love triangle was the worst written plot point in this show. I still love the show, but god this needed so much work.
I believe there were some Apritello shippers around season one. I kind of shipped them.
This ship was ruined once season two came around with that April arc and introducing Casey.
I love Casey, but he was mostly used as a plot device for the love triangle. He had so much more potential than what he got.
Based on the comments about the triangle, most people have an issue with their belief that April was manipulating the guys and how unclear the status of either Apritello or Capril.
I just got to say that poor April was dragged through the mud because of the writerâs mistakes. They confused the h*ll out of us, or at least me, with all the will they, wonât they switcheroo. It was hard to tell if April liked Donnie, Casey, both, or none of them. I think the main goal with this triangle was the writers indecision to either follow the 2003 versionâs lead with Capril or go their own path with Apritello. If they had decided, this plot point would have been so much better.
To be honest, I think the writers stopped April from making a decision to make the show âinteresting. âIn season 3, it seemed like April wanted to be with Donnie. Casey and her were also acting more like friends instead of love interests. Yet, in the first episode of season 4, they had to make him get love struck over her new outfit.
Ughh... the writers confused me too much.
I think it didnât come to fansâ minds that maybe April was confused with her feelings. Maybe she liked both guys and didnât reject both of them outright because of her need to clear her head. Sure, it was a bad idea to be honest with them, but people make mistakes.
 âThe Power Inside Herâ:
People are a bit harsh towards April in this episode. I totally get how they feel, though their hate for her could have clouded their judgment.
The biggest complaint I have seen about this episode is the fans being angry with April for not breaking from the alienâs control. Compared to the aeon, Za-Naron, April is a not that experience with her mental powers. Communicating or using their mental powers is normal for the Aeons, while April figured out how to use them a few months or a year ago. As she kept the crystal, Za-Naron control over her grew stronger. I think that if any other character like Leo or Donnie, fans would be more lenient since their writing was way better.
Of course, April needed to apologize for temporary killing Donnie, and hurting her friends; good thing she did. I donât hold it against her as much as other fans.
 Conclusion:
After finishing the analysis, I concluded that April is a victim of bad writing instead of a terrible character. I know thereâs an argument that the writing doesnât really play a part with liking or disliking a character, but it does. Writers decide every characterâs actions and create the person theyâll become. Reducing April to a plot device for romance was terrible. Not seeing Aprilâs potential was one of the greatest disappointments in TMNT 2012.
If you still donât like April, thatâs fine. Iâm not trying to change your mind. All I want is to open their perspectives and see that all the hate April gets can be explained.
Hope you enjoyed this analysis. Comment down below your thoughts.

Hi I saw you were looking for pointers to write tmnt characters, I like to write Raph angst so here are some Raph pointers.
His temper comes from a place of emotion, likely over stimulation and vonabralitly problems. He's brutally honest and dosnet like to sugar coat things but can and will if nessisary. He has a soft side, he can be sweet and will protect his family at all cost. Keep in mind he's 3d and has some(alot of) inner turmoil.
Thank you for the pointers for Raph. Heâs one of the toughest characters to write about-at least for me-since heâs so multi-layered.
What do you think of the news that Tad Stones is involved in the new Darkwing Duck show.
Is this recent news? I havenât seen it yet. I like that Tad Stones is involved in the project so the show will have somewhat of the same feeling as the original show.
Thoughts on Time Skip in Rise Movie
Recently, it was revealed that the Rise movie takes place two years after the finale. I donât have a full opinion until the movie is available but so far I donât like the time skip. I was really hoping the movie would take place a few months later so we can see how Cassandra is getting along with the group, Draxumâs growing relationship with Splinter and the Turtles, and the Turtles handling their new power up. Iâm nervous that the time jump will skip over that development. Thatâs what I was most hoping for from the movie.
Iâm still excited for the movie and hope the time skip has a purpose.
I forgot to say in my last reblog that I donât think Liu Kang was at fault for everything that had gone wrong. Though heâs a god, Liu Kang is capable of making mistakes like a human. I do believe that there are events that canât be changed such as the clans fighting, Tarkatans, etc. I actually wrote a theory post a while back on why I think Tarkatans couldnât be erased. Basically, I believe Liu Kang tried getting rid of Tarkatans but couldnât due to Time Keeper rules. So, he changed it into a disease that is pretty hard to contract. I think that Liu made a bad call giving Shang Tsung and Quan-Chi meaningless lives (as he put it in the story mode). I wish he specified his intentions with Shang and Quan-Chiâs life. Itâs hard to tell if he gave them hard lives in hopes theyâll grow kinder or he gave them average lives and, unfortunately, he had no control with their lives getting worse (Quan-Chi being in the mines and Shang having a hard time making a living). Liu Kang definitely didnât have a hand on Bi-Hanâs betrayal because he didnât expect the cyromancer to betray his brothers for his own interest. General Shaoâs arrogance returned because of Shangâs manipulation.Â
Iâm the type of fan who sometimes overanalyzes things, especially when things arenât explicitly explained. Because of this, I question which occurrences in the New Era are due to Liuâs interference or if it's meant to happen (a canon event). For example, Liu Kang interfered in Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn and Quan-Chiâs lives to make sure they didn't become their previous selves. He made sure Mileena was Kitanaâs blood sister and not a clone. He also had the Lin-Kuei act as Earthrealmâs defense instead of continuing their assassination system that was for their own interest. Thatâs Liu interference. A mix of Liuâs ability to manipulate outcomes and his cryptidness definitely leads to questioning what else heâs done, at least for me. Time is a very complex matter so it leads to more questions than answers. I hope in the next story there will be an explanation on Liu Kangâs limits and what he specifically did to create the timeline.Â
I donât think I explained my reasoning on why I think having Kuai and Harumi together makes me feel like Kuai is kind of like âHanzo with a different nameâ very well.Â
My main reason for saying this is because they got together during a Tower Ending instead of the story. It feels rushed to add this relationship in 90 seconds so it feels like the writers did this to fulfill a checklist (have a Scorpion and Harumi together). I think I would like this relationship if the expansion story focused on them and I see why and what made Harumi and Kuai love each other. They could be in the beginning of their relationship and seeing their dynamic would be enough. But they are married so it wouldnât happen exactly like that. I guess Iâm the type of person who only really feels for a ship if I see their growth. From what I remember, all that has been mentioned about their relationship is that they are childhood friends and have mutual respect for each other, which is a good starting point though not enough for me to feel anything other than neutral. Iâm very for the âShow donât Tellâ idea of storytelling.
I am looking forward to seeing Harumi in the story and what you listed about her makes me interested in her as a character. I hope sheâs a badass who will be added to the main roster in future games. We need more female fighters.
I see your points on why you think Hanzo is an adult, but I still think Hanzo is underage. Not by a lot though, I think heâs at least 16-17.Â
His arms are bigger than most teens but heâs been training and before that he had the minimum amount of skill to steal. Smoke stopped him because heâs trained longer but I am certain an average person would not defend themselves as well. In the image I added, you can see his muscles are smaller compared to the images you included. This shows that training and eating more (like you said Hanzo was starving before joining the Shirai-Ryu) were major reasons his muscles are larger, not age. What Iâm trying to say is that itâs possible for a slightly underage guy to look like an adult due to physical fitness and eating right (I expect the Shirai-Ryu to have a healthy regiment). I think a time skip happened between my image and yours, but they are probably at least a few months to a year apart since Bi-Han doesnât seem like the person who would wait very long. After all, he hunted Kuai and Tomas after Titan Shang Tsung was defeated.
Also we have to consider some things. Compared to a front view, a side view of muscles will look larger because of perspective (the second image you added proves it since his arms are slightly slimmer compared to the first image). Hanzo is flexing as well which makes muscles look larger. I also searched up what muscular guys (16-17 years old) look like and they look very close to Hanzoâs physique.Â
With his voice, I agree that itâs deep though guys in my high school sounded very similar when they were 16-17 because of puberty. A deep voice doesnât always equal being an adult. Also, it hasnât been confirmed if the voice actor that did those grunts will be Hanzoâs in future appearances. They couldâve been another va whoâs voicing another character that did those grunts because NRS didnât want to hire a new va just for grunts. Iâm going to wait for the voice actor hired for Hanzoâs official appearance in the games to see if Hanzo is a late teen or adult.Â
I agree with you about adults being born shorts. Everyone grows at different rates and it doesnât physically show someoneâs maturity. I still somewhat considered it (though not as much as other points I mentioned) because the media usually use height to show age, especially in animated projects. Short adults or tall teens/kids are rarely shown unless for comedic reasons. Iâm not saying Mortal Kombat is like that but I still keep it in mind in case they do use height = age formula.Â
Although I see your points on why you think Hanzo is an adult, Iâm going to assume heâs underage until the game confirms his age or at least gives strong enough hints to make an educated guess.Â
Thank you for replying back to me! I appreciate your pov because it evolves mine at the same time. I enjoy our conversations. I apologize for taking the expected, life got a little hectic. Sorry for going into crazy specifics near the end. It was the only way I could think of to better explain my points. Also, I noticed in your tags that you donât like being a Liu Kang apologist or something along those lines. Iâm curious as to why.Â
(Spoiler Warning: Smokeâs Tower Ending is discussed)
I saw Smokeâs tower ending and was surprised to see Hanzo in the new timeline, let alone as a child. Although Iâm open to how the writers will handle his character, Iâm kind of disappointed that they went this route. When I learned that Kuai Liang would be Scorpion in the new timeline, I expected Hanzo to either not even exist or live a nice life with Harumi and their son. Instead, Kuai Liang is married to Harumi and Hanzo is much younger than them, which is so weird. I really hoped Hanzo would have a happy life and only be involved in the games through mentions at least. Also, this decision paints Liu Kang in a bad light. Itâs no secret Liu Kang made sure his allies had a good life while making some of his enemiesâ lives (Shang Tsung and Quan Chi) insignificant to prevent them from turning into their past counterparts. So, it makes me wonder why Liu Kang didnât think to give Hanzo a good life or at least watch over him. Itâs shown that Hanzo is a starving orphan forced to steal for essentials. I have no doubt Liu Kang knows about Hanzoâs past since he met the older and kinder Scorpion in MK11 and Raiden has disclosed Hanzoâs past in MK 9. Plus when Liu Kang fused with the Hourglass, he most likely became aware of what happened in MK9 and MKX. He gave Shao Kahn the chance to be a better man by being the Kingdomâs general- a risk that didnât pay off, yet didnât give Hanzo what he always desired- his wife, son, and the Shirai-Ryu. It feels so out of character for Liu Kang to not make sure Hanzo had a good chance at life.Â
If I had the opportunity to write Hanzoâs character, it wouldâve been very different. I wouldâve made him a former Lin Kuei member(he would be 5 or more years older than Bi-Han) who held the Scorpion title until he retired to Japan- where met Harumi and had their son. Hanzo wouldâve also been the one to train Kuai Liang in his fire powers in the latterâs childhood. In his honor, Kuai would take the Scorpion mantle after Hanzo retires. Hanzo could also help Kuai and Smoke form the Shirai-Ryu but Harumi helps in recruiting and training while he takes care of their young son.Â
Though, I still hold some faith that NRS will write the new Hanzo well. I guess Iâm just disappointed because I wanted Hanzo to finally live a happy life where his family stays alive. He was one of my favorites in the MK9-MK11 era so I canât help but feel a connection towards him.
My Thoughts on How Barbara Became Oracle.
Iâve seen people talk about this change and I wanted to join in since I have some thoughts too.
For the most part, Iâm okay with the change the writers did. Young Justice is one of many DC universes so anything can happen. I applaud the writers for trying something new.
Though, I still have some problems with the change. It was pretty weird that Barbara automatically assumed Orphan never killed anyone before they met. I think the writers were trying to outright tell us that Cassandraâs story is widely different. I also wouldâve preferred if Orphan made that decision not to kill or killing is bad on her own like what happened when she and her mother fought in episode 8.
I read Cassandraâs comic origins on her Wikipedia page and prefer how she decided to be a hero than YJâs version.
Incase anyone is wondering about my thoughts on how Barbara became Oracle in the Killing Joke, Iâm okay with this version. There are many people who said they didnât like it because they believe Barbara was a consequence of Joker wanting to drive Gordon crazy. I can see where they are coming from but that was not my perspective.
From how I see it, what happened to Barbara was a devastating way to show the audience that heroes can face as much pain and tragedy in their civilian lives as them being superheroes. And that terrible things can indirectly happen to you.
I hope you liked my rant! Thanks for reading!
