three watercolor paintings i did a couple months ago!
i haven't used watercolor in a very long time because i always found it difficult and unpredictable, but i wanted to try it again. after trying painting a lined drawing first (not posted here), i tried again with these lineless styles, painting directly over my sketch
the style suits me much better. i love the way i can layer the colors to make them brighter and more vibrant. it also helps to use tube watercolor paints rather than the tray, so it's easier to mix like im used to with acrylics
overall, it feels similar to how i render digitally, building up colors especialy around the eyes
i grew up in places that had fireflies, and it was beautiful. they don't make much noise like cicadas and crickets do - they just quietly drift around at night, and occasionally flash their lights. they like to hang low over the fields, weaving between grasses and tree trunks to find each other. i loved watching them for hours, sitting in a camping chair in the yard with my parents, and it was like living in a lullaby
suggestions for gender neutral version of mom/dad? something less formal than just ‘parent’
"Message to all Americans" / "Why don't Americans just..." / "How are all Americans this stupid" / "The thing I wish Americans knew..."
Please god please we know we see it we're feeling it we're living it
We see the horrific things happening in the world, we see the horrifically stupid things happening within our own country, we understand that we're not the only country in the world. We're not deluded, we're scared. So many of us are scared. We recognize that there are other people who are scared in the world, and we're scared with them. For them. For ourselves. Angry, too.
I don't know what I'm trying to get at with this. I know too many good activists and too many real, living people whose lives are going to be in real, tangible danger and at jeopardy over the next few years to be able to just brush all this off anymore. I'm not talking about online discourse, stop treating it like it is.
hey

SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE WHO STILL TRIES TO GET BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS AFTER DEPRESSION HIT THEM HARD. THERE ISN’T ENOUGH RECOGNITION FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO KNOW THAT THEY’RE GOING TO LOSE INTEREST AND MOTIVATION AGAIN BUT PUSH THEMSELVES TO DO STUFF ANYWAYS. YOU ARE FIGHTING A DAILY BATTLE WITH YOUR OWN THOUGHTS AND YOU’RE STILL COMING OUT ON TOP, YOU’RE ALL BRAVE AS FUCK
and so it begins
another jacket, this time with sleeves! spent the whole weekend trying to dye it (didn't work the first time, stuck my hand in dye water without thinking, dinged up my dryer, splotchy results, etc etc) but at last, it holds.
I've started transferring a couple black and white patches from my vest to this jacket, and I'm going to try to stick with those two colors and red. someday I'll come back to my vest and replace the blue flannel with green, and lean into that color to have some contrast between the two. but for now I'm focusing on this jacket, and I'm super excited
