Indulging in silly thoughts but if a code veronica remake actually does happen, I'm curious about player reception for steve. Like, will he be as reviled as he has been by a significant chunk of the playerbase? Will capcom redesign his look? Change his personality? What will they do to the lad. I'm intrigued.

honest, I'm a tired of people saying "Steve so much like Leon!".

I mean, no.

maybe they really have a somewhat similar exterior design (hairstyle with bangs, + Leon in RE2 original seems more red than blond), but all the similarities end there. they have completely different stories, characters and personalities. yes, they both interact with Claire, but they have an absolutely different dynamic with her.

some seem to devalue Steve as a character, the terrible experience he went through as a prisoner on the island, or the fact that Steve literally overcame the virus in his body, just not to harm Claire, he loved her so much. but it all boils down to "look, this guy like Leon!". (he don't)

this wouldn't be a problem if I hadn't seen people who claim that would be good if the CV Remake "cut the role of Steve and added Leon" (we know that this will never happen and are grateful to Capcom for that). this teenage guy went through a terribly traumatic experience as a prisoner of the camp (which, according to Capcom's first plans, should have parallels with the end camp, they even have a gas chamber), became a victim of an experiment and curbed the virus in himself (can you imagine how strong he is?) for safety the woman he fell in love with. but in the end, some people call him "annoying" and want him erased from his own story for the sake of some ship (which doesn't even exist in the canon).

So question, did anyone know Joseph actually spoke here?? Or am I just, dumb for never realising that he did?? I can’t make out the first part, but he’s talking to himself as he jots down his notes?? After all my years of playing this game, did I really never notice he TALKS HERE???

Context: the studio that made Hi-Fi Rush, Ghostwire Tokyo, & The Evil Within (Tango Gameworks) got shut down by Microsoft.

What I am saying is from the perspective of an American born and raised in the U.S. I’m unaware of what this is like in most other countries and I will be primarily talking about AA & AAA games: the indie scene is thriving

Sucks that we live in a society that discourages passion, creativity, & art unless it directly contributes to lining the pockets of billionaires: this is especially evident when you look at how corporations treat their employees & IPs, work culture, and the U.S education system. There are absolutely amazing games & IPs that are left in the past because they didn’t give the people on top as much money as they hoped for or there are more profitable options, so instead we get an over saturated market generally made for fans of popular IPs, shooters, and action adventure games because those sell the best. This is why a lot of Nintendo’s, Sony’s, and Microsoft’s older IPs never get used anymore: this is why we keep getting the same games, but with a new gimmick and shinier coat of paint. I love shooters and action adventure games, but we need more games that are unique and/or of less popular genres that stick around. Insomniac for example has made great games that are full of creativity and passion such as Sunset Overdrive & Spyro, but now they’re not much more than a glorified Marvel games studio: their new games are good, but it’s all stuff we’ve seen numerous times. We still do get great, soulful games that aren’t left to the sands of time, but there have been less of them as it moves on.

Everytime I watch a review/deep dive of The Evil Within, i’m always majorly disappointed. Instead of people talking about what they liked and disliked, theories, game mechanics, what could be improved/expanded upon, etc etc.. We’re just met with TEW being compared to RE4.

Like😭😭I want a TEW review. Not an RE4 review. Both games are amazing and have such great things to offer to players. But why is TEW so scrutinized?

also to add: one of the main complaints i see about TEW is the survival aspect. like… it’s a SURVIVAL horror game. cmon now…

Everyone went ape shit on Microdick (microsoft) for shutting down Tango gameworks because of The Evil within game but no one noticed that MicroASS shut down Arkane studio as well..

My two main takeaways from The Evil Within

It says a disappointing thing about me that my response to winding up in a nasty, decaying asylum was, 'oh, thank God, familiar territory'.

On account of Joseph being an absolute beast with that axe AND having good aim, I will do anything he needs. I will personally sacrifice a virgin if it calls for that. I cannot finish this game without him, my aim is shit and MY axes all break. Clearly, he should be protecting me.

I've been reflecting on the situation for some time now... Corporate bullshit is nothing new, but I still didn't expect this turn of event (considering the success of HI-FI Rush, which wasn't colossal, BUT STILL). With all the rumors, I was hyped for the possibility of TEW3 or something related, and now it looks like the series is a hostage IP. It could be brought back by some other studio one day, but... I dunno. This whole situation is so wrong. I can only wish the dev teams all the best. 💔

At least TEW enjoyers still have each other so we can share amazing fan content to preserve the legacy. Thank you Tango for the unforgetible ride! 🧠✨

mfw when i’m one of if not the most important character in my game but no one including the actual game developers gives me enough credit for how strong and brilliant and crucial to the narrative i am to the point where i’m literally not even mentioned in my own game’s sequel

Name a game franchise more cursed than The Evil Within. First game negatively reviewed. Second game more positively received (and I have feelings about that) but flopped financially. 2 also had a major shift in writing/directing and Shinji Mikami was no longer as involved in the project. Voice actors strike resulted in most of the important characters from the first game being completely absent. Lead artist left the company (multiple times?) and afaik wasn't involved as much if at all in 2. Threequel in a permanent state of speculation. Shinji Mikami leaving Tango. TEW3 has realistically been dead for years if it ever existed to begin with (and leaks suggested at one point it did.) But man, what a depressing end to a series that started with a great game and tons of potential. This series and its fandom were fumbled at every possible turn. Now we're left with the questions from TEW1 completely unanswered because of the direction TEW2 had to take and no hope of resolution for any of it. The Evil Within truly went out with a whimper.

I see, as soon as I've locked myself into a new hyperfixation, Microsoft have to be dickheads.

Here's Part 2 of Joseph's photoshoot and the last shot at the end is me devastated by the news that Tango Gameworks who made this game has been shut down. TEW has their ups and downs but the story, the characters, the settings in general still allured me and I will always love that series. Here we had hope for the third game and for others a chance to see Joseph again like I do. Thank you for coming into my life The Evil Within.

edit: I would like to add one thing, Vincent caffarello had to deal with situations of extreme sexualization as well, and his got to the point to where he had to leave. Vinnie used to be very involved with the fandom, he even used to read fanfic which he had to stop doing because people would be writing characters to SEXUALLY ASSAULT HIM or others and he just couldn't continue to read things like that. He delt with minors sending him explicit photos and messages and that's literally all kinds of FUCKED UP. He did NOT want to be involved with that stuff.
