schizophrenia is not just experiencing positive symptoms (hallucinations and delusions). a lot of schizophrenics are neurodivergent in other ways. this focus on the positive symptoms is a villainious way to gatekeep us from neurodivergent spaces because our positive symptoms are typically portrayed as "scary".
our negative symptoms (flat effect, being withdrawn, avolition and anhedonia) are skewed to portray us as "evil" because we're not "emotive" or "caring" enough. schizospec disorders make everyday activities so hard. basic hygiene isn't a habit, we have little to no motivation to do basic things, the lack of happiness and pleasure can turn into severe depression for some of us and that's why depressive and bipolar schizoaffectives exist. people don't grasp the fact that schizophrenia is a disability.
i've personally experienced a lot of cruelty from other neurodivergent people because there is little to no education on schizospec disorders even within neurodivergent spaces. we're seen as inherently morally reprehensible for our disorder and people are so casually ableist to us. i'm not able to speak up for myself in these spaces because i feel like there is no where else i can go. neurotypicals are cruel to schizophrenics but so are other neurodivergent people. people need to have more care and love for schizophrenics.
yes that includes schizophrenics with little to no empathy, schizophrenics of color, trans schizophrenics, gay schizophrenics, schizophrenic systems, autistic schizophrenics, schizophrenics with adhd, fat schizophrenics, poor schizophrenics, homeless schizophrenics, schizophrenic sex workers, schizophrenics who've experienced abuse, schizophrenics with ocd, schizophrenics with ptsd/cptsd, schizophrenic children and teens, elderly schizophrenics, schizophrenics who are also physically disabled, all schizophrenics.
all schizophrenics deserve love.
Short infographic-style thing on how fae veils work for us. I attempted to put the secondary veil in the demo on the second picture but it ended up looking too messy and gave up and put a disclaimer instead. It's impossible to really accurately portray it visually; since the focus shifts like a seesaw according to what i need or want to look like to myself at least; since what others expect me to look like is out of my control therefore the primary veil is seen.
This is written from the perspective of a fae creature / fae beast however some holotheres might also find this relateable to some extent.
Anyone else grew up in an overly religious household that disallowed you from playing pretend in certain ways? For example, I was not allowed to pretend I have magical powers.
Also, being banned from saying normal words? I could not say I hated something. "Hate" was treated as a curse word and I still struggle to this day with saying stuff like "I hate scratchy socks" without feeling like a bad person somehow.
Another thing: thinking it's okay if you slack off in class because your parents say you're all going to heaven this year anyway (the rapture). It's crazy thinking about how fucking normal such a terrifying statement was to hear. "But will God let me bring my teddybear?" "You won't need him."
So many innocuous things were treated as satanic. Anything referencing magic was automatically evil (unless the creator was a 'professing christian' aka lotr, narnia) which meant everything from D&D to Lucky Charms were banned.
Such made me very afraid of things like demonic possession, not reaching adulthood before the rapture, getting in trouble for having friends who like Harry Potter, my brother going to Hell, some random new rule being pulled from the bible, etc etc.
Hello! wanted to ask some questions about schizoaffective bipolar type; because we've been dx'ed with bipolar type 1 already but aren't really trusting of anyone in psych-therapy circles to reveal any details about my schizospec symptoms. Aside from the fact that psychiatry in my corner of eastern europe is very anti-dx in general. I had to fight to get taken seriously with bipolar for them to finally stop giving me antidepressants without mood stabilisers kind of deal.
What makes bipolar be schizoaffective and not just bipolar with some schizospec symptoms? How does schizoaffective manifest for you? i've read enough regarding actual dx criteria for schizoaffective and i would fall into schizoaffective but i wanted to hear a first-person point of view.
Feel free to ignore this if you're not comfortable, or dm me instead if it's more ok for you.
thank you!
Hello! I totally understand being hesitant to disclose psychotic symptoms. It’s for different reasons but it took me a very long time to get proper treatment as I was unable to understand that my symptoms were 1. indicative of a disorder 2. severe enough to warrant treatment. Luckily where I live I have access to a lot of resources for psychotic people, so I eventually have found a regime of medications that helps me to think clearly.
I think for me the difference between bipolar with psychotic features and schizoaffective was that i was in a near constant state of psychosis before treatment. In bipolar, usually psychosis is sort of treated as the end of the road: the most severe mood symptoms can get. Honestly there’s a ton of disagreement over what schizoaffective even means. Personally I define my version of schizoaffective as schizophrenia with bipolar episodes, but that’s my personal definition and definitely doesn’t apply to everyone.
Before treatment I was constantly confused and unable to take care of myself. Some of my psychosis was related to my nonhumanity (I consider my god/angel identity to be endelic due to this), but not all of it is. And my nonhumanity is definitely not all psychotic. I really am a fae creature. I know a lot of my beliefs would be written off as crazy talk if I explained them to my psychiatrist. But ultimately I know myself best.
Human definitions for mental conditions are flawed and very subjective/fluid. Unfortunately, I love labels so I choose to identify with the diagnoses I’ve been given.
Sorry if this is a very long rambly response. I love talking about this sort of thing. If you have any more questions/discussion feel free to dm me!
Just wanted to say if you are anti-endel, anti clinical lycanthrope/zooanthrope, maybe this isn't the best page for you. I may not be any of these but I suffer from delusions due to psychotic features with my depression and part of why I identify as holothere is for this reason.
No, I am not saying that I am against you advising others to get mental help if they want to, but I am against these types of creatures being excluded for something they can't entirely control. So if you are anti-endel, or anti-clinical lycanthrope/zooanthrope, then my page is not for you.
love being a snake shapeshifter because like…there are literally thousands of species, and I could be any of them at any given point. it’s like a huge game of species roulette.
