Anyone else love getting back to the basics? Been having a blast working up these paragraph dividers using a ballpoint pen and pencil!
Visualnovelty streamed Travel Devil! Thank you so much for sharing this full game playthrough! I'm really glad you liked that CG lol!
Happy Spooktober everyone!
Hello and welcome everyone,
It's great to have started playing the entries in the Annual Spooktober Visual Novel Jam. This year I'm hoping to play as many as possible to get into the Hallow'een spirirt!
So far I've given two spooky gems a go and I want to show them off so here goes!
Tunnel Vision
The first one I've tried this year is Tunnel Vision and wow is this game something! Tunnel Visions was made in Unity and is a horror visual novel with five different endings. It opens up with some gorgeous artwork and user interface details. From the get-go this visual novel shows it's technical prowess. The story follow a charcter who wakes up in an unsetling predicament with no memory of how they got there. The story twists around, subverting expectations and changing your perception of the character that you are playing with some genuinely stomach dropping moments. I played this just before bed and felt incredibly creeped out as a result but also intrigued to know more so that's a big win for this team!
I want to take some time and touch on the sound design too. It was very immersive and great quality. I really enjoyed the music and sound effects too. Definitely complimented the story nicely.
This was a fantastic game to start my terror-riffic journey with!
How to Summon a Demon
After playing Tunnel Vision, I wanted to try something completely different and this visual novel was the perfect treat.
How to Summon a Demon is a visual novel devleoped in Ren'py about a demon summoning video tutorial and you had me at demons! I have a soft spot for putting them in my games and stories (as you may have guessed if you've seen my lastest game Travel Devil) so this game was a must play! Plus I was delighted that I could play it in my browser!
The game is downright adorable with wonderful character and scene design. The purpose of the game is to build a demon by making choices throughout the video. You choices can lead to summoning 20 different demons on different playthroughs and they look fantastic! The interface really elevated this game with gorgeous artwork, especially during the choices. On their itch page they mention that development is continuing beyond this jam so it looks like we'll see big things for this novel.
I'm looking forward to trying so many more games this Spooktober and have had a blast with the first two.
You can check out all the entries here:

We're a two person dev team who make short games for free and for fun so having this many people downloading Lydia's Labyrinth is incredible for us! Genuinely, thank you so much.
If escaping a deadly labyrinth while being chided by a cute yet deranged vampire sounds appealing to you, then check it out below!

Week 2 of development has been going well on Travel Devil 2. We’re setting it straight after the first game so you get to see how the dynamics of Tornacense and Kirby are changing as they get used to being around each other.
Tornacense and Kirby facing an unhinged street preacher in the first game.
It’s great returning to these characters. I’m trying to make their drawings more exciting and dynamic. I’ve got a lot more time to make the character drawings now as I’m not working to game jam timeframes. I’m also going to learn to use the Renpy Action Editor to add more options to the movements in the game.
I’ve been working on many different aspects of the Travel Devil 2 to keep things interesting and motivating. Here’s what I’ve been up to:
Many more concept sketches were drawn. Now I need to get them looking swish on the computer.
Backgrounds and video footage of Amsterdam have been sourced to showcase in the vlog parts of the game.
Set up a Bluesky profile – now I just have to learn to use it :S
Spent a lot of time updating software – yay!
Planned some fancy menus for 1st game recap, unlockables and character profiles
Coded some of the game framework in Renpy
Drank a lot of tea (Woo rock and/or roll!)
I've been using the plot outline to build the framework for the game. Robert has been working away on the writing. He's already written the recap of the first game and the opening scene which we’ve been hammering out together.
We’re hoping to get Travel Devil 2 out this year if we can. However if you can’t wait, you can pop on the old humask and check out the (short) first installment here on itch.io.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope March is treating you well!
And we got our game finished!
Hi and welcome everyone!
It's been a whirlwind this September but I'm delighted to annaounce that Travel Devil is live and a part of the jam!
It's a short VN about a botched demonic summoning turning into the adventure of a lifetime. Our host, Tornacense, finally escapes the administrative department of hell to pursue his dreams of becoming the hottest new content creator on Doomtube! But will all this exposure lead to unwanted attention from the upper echelons of demon society?
Travel Devil was made in collaboration with Robert from Valhallions. He was fantastic to collab with and got stuck in with all aspects of the game.
I worked on the coding, character design, image manipulation and GUI. I'm so glad we got it finished on time! It was a mad rush at the end and there were times we weren't sure we would make it. I'm still so tired but so happy!
Also, I can't wait to try the other entries in the jam. This is my favourite time of the year, it's going to be so much fun!

It's day 2 of the Spooktober VN jam! Here's a quick image drop to show off the look we're going for in Lydia's Labyrinth!
As always, royalty free photos from pixabay are doing the heavy lifting for backgrounds and graphic design. I add a lot of colouring and effects to make it look more vampy.
I've also started the coding in Renpy and Robert is working on the writing, maze design and sound effects. So it's all go and I hope we can get this dangerous labyrinth finished!
Hope your all having a great Spooktober and keep healthy during the jam!
Here's a quick screenshot from The Hate Show - an interlude to the Travel Devil story. Development hit a couple of roadblocks but things are back on track and I'm feeling fiendishly hopeful!
The next devlog will follow soon.
Take care of yourselves... and each other.
So things were hectic for many reasons last week, and thus I wasn't able to finish "Forget Me Nots Club" despite trying to throw myself into it at times!
I think I'm just going to need to admit to myself that I'm a perfectionist without a huge amount of time and thus "Forget Me Nots Club" is going to have to wait a little more to be done, so this time I won't give an exact time for when it'll be done as I'm uncertain when I'll be satisfied, so I'll just say soon! Hopefully before the end of November! :3
So right now, just check out the demo while I get this done and...
Might as well give another music sneak peek! :D
This one is Carmel's! For some reason I felt the need for theirs to stick out and be a bit different, probably since they look so different from the rest of the friends and almost completely enjoy the club with no drawbacks!... At first at least!
Mr Fuffington is out in the wild! DragonQuills over on itch.io made a cozy, wonderful visual novel about finding a place to live for the winter.
I've played through the first story and the writing is delightful and has a great sense of humour. Also there's an adorable romance between the humans.
(Also the opening music is Pawtastic!)
Hey there! I'm an indie narrative game developer.I love to make story games steeped in myth and fable using characters like vampires, demons and wraiths.
