Every mosquito bite is an itchy way of joining yourself with nature.

A little bit of you becomes mosquito.

And then becomes a hundred mosquitoes.

A little bit of you then becomes fish and dragonfly, bluebird and bat.

A little bit of you will become grass and trees after that.

That itch is the itch of becoming one with Creation.

Every Mosquito Bite Is An Itchy Way Of Joining Yourself With Nature.

Tweet from "@LepantoInst": "Like a Soviet-era dictator, and in a raw exercise of power without provision of law, Pope Francis has removed Bp. Joseph Strickland as bishop of Tyler, TX."

Beneath: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know"

"Misleading: implies irregularity or illegality under Catholic rule/Vatican law. The Catholic Church doctrine of papal supremacy is over 1000 years old. The Pope "has full, supreme, and universal power over the whole Church, a power which he can always exercise unhindered." Includes link to Vatican website for "Catechism of the Catholic Church," and a link to the Wikipedia page for "Papal Supremacy."
Reply tweet from "@Emma506131772": "The pope has right to exercise his power unhindered lol
He's supreme legislator"

Reply tweet from "@LepantoInst": "Really? The Pope is a dictator who has the authority to exercise unlimited power without due process?"

Beneath: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know"

"Yes." Includes a link to the Wikipedia page for "Papal Supremacy" again.

SQUIDTEMBER 2024 STARTS NOW!

It's finally #Squidtember!! We have so much coming your way this month.

A black t-shirt with a red strawberry squid has green letters that say SAVE OUR FREAKS don't mine the deep. The squid is sinking a mining ship

Together with OceanX & ALCES, we've created a whole MONTH of squid education programming.

We're hosting a competition for the best 🦑!

We'll have art prompts and weekly quizzes on OceanX's social media!

The Squid Zine is OUT!

Squid biologists from the USA to Spain to New Zealand will be hyping squid all month. It's going to be great. Can't wait to celebrate with all of you.

Follow along with all of the content with this delightful calendar, featuring illustrations by Meg Mindlin!

a calendar of squid activities, including matchups of best squid, every saturday art prompt drops, every sunday "show us your art" every wednesday a matchup and a squid quiz hosted by OceanX, and a coloring page drop every Tuesday. On the 30th we'll announce the winner of the best squid competition. There are two squid beautifully drawn on the side, a bobtail and a reef squid

And of COURSE we have squid merch that supports our program, designed by Philly designer Corey Danks. Thank you for helping us decide which design to use!!

Corey designed shirts highlighting the dangers of deep sea mining, and a very weird very delightful bumper sticker highlighting one of my all-time favorite squid, Magnapinna!

Get 'em both here!

A bumper sticker with a spooky green squid says KEEP HONKING! I'm tangled in magnapinna's freakishly long arms and can't move!

As always, shirts and bumper stickers support science education nonprofit Skype a Scientist! Host of the squid facts hotline, and many many other free programs for science education!

Going through older videos I found this from years ago and thought it may interest you.

This was taken at a tide pool at Bar Beach on the east coast of Australia.

I spotted something in here that didn’t quite look like a rock and it turned out to be this little octopus.

The animal was very curious and interactive and would reach out for my finger so I could pull it through the water.

It felt like it was playing a game with me and this process of holding my finger and getting pulled through the water then darting back repeated for quite some time and it was more me who ended the interaction as couldn’t stick around at the beach much longer.

At no point in the interaction did I hold its tentacle myself so it being pulled by me was entirely of its own decision as if it wanted to it could let go at any time.

I still think about it now and wonder if it tried playing this game with others who got close enough.

This was my first hands on interaction with an octopus and what surprised me was just how gentle and precise it was with its tentacle arm when it reached for and held my finger.

I feel so lucky to have been in just the right place at the right time to have gotten to experience this and I definitely understand how people who have these experiences with octopus say it’s like a bond you can’t quite describe forms between you and it.

This is incredible and I love this octopus so much

Pollipapas. Loaded pollo a la brasa french fries. Pollo a la brasa is a Peruvian specialty of rotisserie chicken that is amazing to begin with. But they piled it on fried potatoes, melted cheese, mayo, ketchup, and hot sauce. Oh yeah...

Blessed are the Poor in Spirit

Stop. No. Don’t humanize them.

These are the beings you have lived in fear of all your life.

But worse.

This is the hatred you have been sliced and grated on all your life.

But deeper.

Monsters, monsterous. Ignorant. Apathetic. Blind.

They don’t know they don’t know they don’t know of what you’ve seen. Nor do they want to. Nor would they believe you.

And when they spew their vile hatred no longer are they met with disdain.

They are cheered on.

Power hungry. Hungry for your blind obedience. Your hands. Your toil. Your silence.

So much silence and so much distance like you are an insect trapped beneath glass walls.

But they are hungry for more than obedience now. They are hungry for your admiration. For your adoration.

You have lived your life in literal starvation and in omnipresent fear. Why stop now? Now that the danger goes deeper, deeper, longer, greater than you could ever imagine?

You don’t mind for your own sake. You know you deserve nothing more than to die choking.

You mind for all the poor people. The parents torn from their children. The children torn from their parents. The workers who will not see power ever.

Power. You don’t have the power to feed your people. You don’t have the power to give them water. You don’t have the power to protect the children. You will live your whole life without power.

But you know that the prophecies are on your side. The last shall be first. The first shall be last. The hungry will feast. The well-fed will starve. The sick will be healed, the healthy will grow ill. The powerless will have power. The thirsty will have clean, pure water.

Glory to the newborn King.

There are people who actually worshipped JKR and there are people who gushed about her because she wrote Harry Potter and they loved Harry Potter who literally knew nothing about her that wasn't in the author bio on the dust jacket. I think fandom oriented people tend to forget how big a population the latter was! But Harry Potter was so huge at its peak that it had a lot of casual fans who deeply, deeply loved the series, maybe even knew the trivia of the actual books inside and out, but never engaged with the fandom side of things or dove deep into meta information. There were normies attending midnight release parties, the series was that big.

I think one big reason why we don't consider the stars as important as before (not even pop-astrology anymore cares about the stars or the sky on itself, just the signs deprived of context) is because of light pollution.

I Think One Big Reason Why We Don't Consider The Stars As Important As Before (not Even Pop-astrology

For most of human history the sky looked between 1-3, 4 at most. And then all of a sudden with electrification it was gone (I'm lucky if I get 6 in my small city). The first time I saw the Milky Way fully as a kid was a spiritual experience, I was almost scared on how BRIGHT it was, it felt like someone was looking back at me. You don't get that at all with modern light pollution.

When most people talk about stargazing nowadays they think about watching about a couple of bright dots. The stars are really, really not like that. The unpolluted night sky is a festival of fireworks. There is nothing like it.
