“Our pining for belonging can do frenetic things to the soul. We can become so desperate for connection that we make havoc from all the hungry parts of ourselves. It makes us restless. It can make us consume others instead of embrace them. Maybe we habitually ignore the boundaries of friend because we fear absence will end in abandonment. Or we make unhealthy demands of relationships to satisfy our own insecurities, desperate for affirmation. Solitude can be a profound teacher. It can teach us how to hold ourselves—how to affirm ourselves and listen. How much is the sound of your own voice worth? And yet, we were made for belonging. Maybe you’ve heard it said that you need to learn how to be alone before you can be with someone. I say you have to learn how to be with and a part of something in order to know how to be alone.”

Some union basics:
1. Striking is the LAST RESORT. If a union is at the place where a strike is being proposed it is because they have been bargaining for a long time and exhausted all their other options.
2. Before a strike happens, all the members vote. Everyone is very aware of the status of negotiations long before they’re made public. But if a strike is occurring it’s because an overwhelming majority voted to strike—you want almost everyone in the union to agree before you take such a huge step.
3. Strikes are difficult but necessary demonstrations of workers’ collective power. The hope is that your labor is so essential that the bosses lost profits will make them come back to the bargaining table. The bosses are hoping that the workers will starve to death.
4. Working during a strike is called scabbing. Coming in from an outside industry to do work during a strike is sometimes called crossing the picket line. Both send you straight to hell.
yall we GOTTA stop using top surgery scars as our only indication that someone is transmasc. what about the transmascs who like their tits, what about the transmascs with wide hips, and so on and so on
'weird' queer people are so important to this community. yes the ones with contradicting labels. yes the ones that use labels that no one can tell how the hell they could be put together. yes the mspec lesbians, gays, and straights. yes the multigendered person that uses straight && lesbian / gay. yes the men that are lesbians. yes the women that are mlm. yes the gaybians and lesgays. yes the person that uses purely xenogenders && neopronouns. and quite literally everyone that has some form of weird label(s). you are so important, please keep being weird with gender && sexuality, because you are so fucking awesome.
i know a lot of people feel like you can't enjoy how a trans person looks until after surgery or hormones, but there are a lot of pre-everything trans aesthetics that i quite enjoy. i love trans men and transmascs who dye their already present mustaches to be dark and bold. it's sexy and cute. i love trans women with flat chests who wear deep cut shirts and dresses. it's sexy. i love the way transmasc and transfem voices sound before hormones. i love watching someone evolve. it's an extremely beautiful part of the journey, and should be appreciated, too
I'm glad I'm weird about gender in a joyous transgender way and not in a miserable cisgender way
suga is cheering you on :>
i really like how the little mermaid (2023) took ariel's longing in the original and intensified it, but for the entire film. there's such a wistful undertone to it, even though eric and ariel's desires are clearly mapped out. the cinematography, the score—everything's drenched in melancholy, and i just think it brilliantly encapsulates the idea of hiraeth ("homesickness for a home to which you cannot return, a home which maybe never was").
love love love how they fleshed out prince eric's character in the live-action film. they make him relatable af, especially with his 'search for identity being hindered by a loving-yet-smothering parental figure' arc. they make him feel like an Actual Person with his own wants and needs and silly quirks instead of the satellite love interest they portrayed him as in the animated film. what's more, they actually show us why and how ariel fell so hard so fast for him in the first place. plus it just makes me really happy thinking about how now that they they're working on their happily ever after together, eric can learn as much as he wants about the seven seas and ariel can learn everything her heart desires about the human world and they'll just have such a good time discovering new treasures together UGH this movie wasn't perfect but the character development was very much *chef's kiss*

i love when they draw a carrot on top of the carrot cake just to remind you this aint no ordinary fuckin cake youre dealing with
one of the main things i love about the little mermaid movie is how they changed grimsby.
he starts off just like the original animated version, so uptight and very dedicated to keeping eric from going all over the place, but as the movie goes on, he's a little more playful, a little more understanding.
when he gives eric the little smile and says "I think we can spare one carriage" and turns a completely blind eye to eric and ariel leaving the castle?
when he distracts the queen because he sees eric and ariel hiding?
when he asks eric if they should call off the search, and gives him the encouragement to be with ariel?
when he's immediately suspicious of vanessa?
when he kicks the engagement ring away after it falls near him?
when he holds the queen back from chasing after eric when he goes to help ariel?
literally grimsby was one of my FAVORITE side characters in the movie, they did him so well, i love how he's obviously a surrogate father to eric, and how he comes to be so fond of ariel
