#eddie realising that not only is steve terrified but that he also cares about his life too (and then trying to reassure him đ)

summer. the time of year that her parents annually end up inviting all of their hippie friends and heading down to lovers lake to reminisce about all the crazy shit they used to get up to as teenagers â robin could only ever hope to escape from such an event. it always resulted in the over sharing of way too many details concerning nude bodies diving into filthy water, not to mention the guy who insisted she call him uncle throwing his arm around her shoulder and jovially asking when it would be her turn to do that with her own friends. gross.
usually sheâd take a dip in the water, but after âwatergateâ, sheâd steered well clear. thus robin was bored, so incredibly bored. she chewed at the skin of her thumb, glancing over at the group of adult as they all laughed in unison. she supposed it was nice for her parents to have something like this to look forward to. she just wished she didnât have to be a part of it every single year. come to think of it⌠no one was watching. surely they were too intoxicated and self-involved to notice if she snuck away, just for a few moments. she probably shouldnât , just in case one of the real-life monsters of hawkins were to make a surprise appearance after two whole years. but selfishly she thought that right now, sheâd much rather take that than endure a single minute longer of this.
hopping to her feet, robin slowly crept into the cover of the trees, taking the occasional look behind her. no one had seen her, just as planned. although things were apparently going too well, as barely a moment or two later, she stepped on a stick which gave way underneath her weight and with a stumble, she came out into a clearing.
âholy shit. eddie?â hands gripped onto both his forearms, an attempt to steady herself before letting go so he could gather his figures. he was definitely a sight for sore eyes. wait, hadnât eddie escaped hawkins to go to chicago or someplace? he definitely had because sheâd been longing to join him and do the exact same thing but then again, she couldnât leave steve in hawkins. heâd probably spontaneously combust, or even worse, get himself killed. âwhy of all places would you come back to hawkins, huh? i thought you finally made it out of here!â
+++
he made sure that heâd gathered all the figurines and put them back into his box before he dusted his palms off on his trousers, got up, turned his head and met eyes with -
âfucking hell!â lips twisting into an incredulous smile, he set the box aside and, much like she had done moments prior, he grabbed hold of her arms. not for balance, but rather to make sure she was actually physically there, that it wasnât his mind or the heat playing tricks on him. no, she was real. âart mine eyes deceiving me? or do i truly find myself within the presence of robin buckley? holy hell!â
and thereâs no stopping himself - heâs really usually not this physical but fuck that - because he wasted no time pulling robin into a tight yet short hug. ânostalgia, i guess.â, he said with a shrug, grin never leaving his face. âmy boss is travelling the states, closed the shop down for the sumemr. figured iâd come here. uh, do a campaign for the club, check on my uncle and all of you guys still stuck here.â
he had perhaps failed to mention that heâd been incredibly homesick during the last couple of months, for whatever reason. as much as he hated hawkins he could think of no better place to spend his summer. âwhat about you, huh? iâd figured youâd have gotten outta here already. what happened?â
steve: that's not what i meant, eddie! i just want a private talk, that's all...
steve: i wanted to come over but i wasn't sure if you wanted to see me...
steve: i've been trying for days to get on the... right fucking channel, or whatever
steve: i just... i wanna know what happened back in the cabin
eddie: a private talk on a walkie line any of the shitbirds could intercept at, like, any moment, huh?
eddie: gotta say i probably wouldn't have fist bumped the air if i'd seen you pull up in my driveway
eddie:... i say drive way like it isn't a trailer park
eddie: anyway
eddie: thought it was quite obvious what happened at the cabin. *you* made it quite obvious, chief.

Whatever the hell thisâŚ.shit is, was gonna catch up to me eventually. Nothing truer could be said for anyone who had ever experienced what went down below Hawkins. It felt too good to be true. It felt too easy to just say yep, thatâs a wrap on all the weird shit. It would never be over. No matter how many times theyâd defeat it, something would come crawling back whether it be as massive as someone like Vecna or as small as⌠hatched eggs? Nancy had already started mentally working on her hypothesis. Baby Demogorgons was her top thought, although thinking about Dart and how tiny he had allegedly been, she was starting to think otherwise. They were human sized, carrying something big enough that could possibly only continue growing.
âStill, I was hoping you would get to see an actual crime scene. Not so much⌠whatever was in there,â she told him, truth in her voice. Nancy didnât really have a partner to lean on anymore whenever she got some sort of lead. It was part of the reason why she asked Eddie to come. She didnât want to ask any of their younger friends and considering the two of them never got much one on one time together? She thought it could be a bonding experience. Plus, there was nothing more metal than some blood, gore, and crime, right? Itâs what they were always singing about.Â
When the keys were unwillingly snatched from her hand, Nancy let out a sigh. âFine,â she conceded, mostly because of the throbbing pain in her hand. She walked in the direction of where she had parked, blowing on her hand as if that would stop the pain. âJust promise me you wonât crash my momâs station wagon?â She asked. Nancy had never ridden with Eddie while he had been behind the wheel so she had no indication of his driving, but if she could guess? She figured it was much worse than her own.

eddie clasped a hand over his heart, brows drawn up, lips twisted into a pout. âoh, geez, wheeler - you wanted to take me out to see a crime scene? little old me? oh, iâm touched.â and he wiped an imaginary tear from the corner of his eye, then let his hands fall back to his side, grinning. not willing to abandon his theatrics even in the face of impendind doom and evil. âcause thatâs what this was, eddie thought, a queasy feeling in the pit of his stomach. this was only the beginning and eddie wasnât sure if he wanted to stick around to see the end of it.
not running away had nearly gotten him killed the last time around. he nodded, hummed, a pleased little sound when nancy didnât put up a fight and followed her to the car. âiâll have you know iâm an excellent driver, wheeler, thank you very much.â, he retorted, swinging the keys around his fingers. though he promptly stopped as they hit his knuckles with full force, cursed under his breath. âpinkie promise. you know, i used to give max a ride to school everyday. gave dustin rides home after hellfire - actually, your brother, too. you can ask him, iâm sure heâll vouch for my driving skills.â
though he skillfully glossed over the fact that one of the reasons heâd given max a ride to school almost everyday was that max was an absolute menace to society everytime she drove a car, and eddie very much wanted to see her live to graduation. he unlocked the car, quickly hopped in, an appreciative glance around before he looked back at nancy.
ânot bad.â, he said, nodding to himself. âi mean, iâd take the van, any day. but not bad.â eddie shrugged, turned the keys in the ignition before his attention was drawn back to her hand. âyou should get that checked out, wheeler. looks pretty nasty to me.â

WHO: cassie conrad & @eddiemcnson¡ WHERE: near town hall
Ever since Cassie had seen her, the cheerleader, in her mind, it was all she could think about. She hadnât even seen the girlâs face, reallyâCassie had become her, and the thought of who it could have been had been racking her brain every waking moment (which there were many of, since she hadnât slept). She finally had the chance to sneak out of the Wheeler household and head to the library, where she could maybe find some more information. Asking Nancy seemed too riskyâshe didnât want to worry her about some weird vision that she had at the cemetery just yet, not until it seemed important enough. With Thad in town, she had enough to worry about.
Looking like a lost tourist with her folded map again outstretched, Cassie sat on a bench outside the Town Hall, looking for her bearings. It seemed like the library had to be close enough to where she was, but it was too hard to tell on the dated map. âHey! Would you mind, um, giving me some help with this map?â she asked the guy passing her, thankful that she finally found someone to help. âSorry, I know this one is from a few years ago, and Iâm trying to find the library, but every street ⌠looks the same.â

eddie was a little disgruntled, seeing as he found himself on the second walk through town this week. walkman clasped to his belt, headphones tight and secure over his ears, he just needed a little fresh air to clear his head. after the disaster at bennyâs. the fact that hopper had been there at least meant he didnât need to worry about the cops busting down the trailer door to arrest him for arson - if it was going to be pinned on anyone, eddie was sure itâd be him -Â but the other aspects of their investigation just didnât seem to leave him.
well, granted, how could he hope to get some peace of mind when they had stumbled across those freakishly large eggs - hatched eggs, he thought to himself and grimaced - and had set the freaking diner on fire, too. it was hopeless. coming back to hawkins, that cloud of threat and doom always lingered above them. some people went as far as saying that hawkins was cursed. eddie thought that they were absolutely spot on right on the money.
âhuh?â eddie jumped a little, pulled down his headphones so they hung around his neck. he glanced down at the map, frowned, looked back up. âuh...you know what, iâm like, headed in a similar-ish direction. wanna tag along? i mean, i gotta warn you iâve got a bit of a reputation as the town âfreakâ âround here, so you might get some, uh, dirty looks.â
where: loverâs lake (cabin)
what: steve best give eddie back that vest, or else ...
who: @stevehharringtcnsâ + eddie
âknock knock.â, eddie said aloud, while simulatenously knocking on the doorframe of the cabin, cautiously entering it. cursing himself for actually being that sort of person that felt he need to say âknock knockâ while they knocked, but whatever. it wasnât like steve wasnât already used to his antics.
thatâs who heâd come to look for - steve. he hadnât seen him in a bit, had been busy attempting to help dustin pitch up his tent, and eddie didnât like not knowing the current whereabouts of steve, didnât like it one bit. just the sight of loverâs lake made him feel queasy, made him feel like he was back on that boat - marvelling at the sight of steve without his shirt on in one moment and freaking out because heâd been pulled down into watergate in the next.
besides - the heat of the day started to wear off and eddie, wearing only a sleveless âdioâ shirt with plenty of rips in it, started to feel a little chilly.Â
âhello? anybody in?â, he called out again, walked further into the cabin until he finally saw steve. eddie smiled, crossed the distance between them.
âthere you are, harrington. been looking all over for you. was beginning to think you were hiding from me - or trying to take off with my vest.â
