☕️ Breakfast in 1994 ☕️ Just a chill morning at the staff kitchen in Fowl Manor 💜 It's been a while since I've drawn our dear Butler. The truth is @iesnoth's design is so perfect to me that I really struggle to come up with something that feels true to him and also like my own thing. It's still a bit of a work in progress but I do like this version :) Also even though the lighting is completely off, I'm still proud of the stained-glass window ✨ I've never really done intricate background details before, but I've developed the firm headcanon that Fowl Manor is overflowing with Art Nouveau/Art Déco architectural nods and so I just had to get out of my comfort zone.

💅🏻 Mullet!Juliet origin story 💅🏻 ... which is : Holly visited while Samsonetta was away, they watched some replays of the fairy sport that I don't know the name of in English ('croqueballe' in French) ; then Juliet showed Holly a few monuments of human cinema (namely, Bloodsport and Samurai Cop)... and they just decided to cut Juliet's hair 💚

I just wanted more Juliet and Holly friendship, we were robbed in canon. I'm happy with their expressions, not so fond of the background but I rarely do backgrounds ever so that's not that bad I guess.

the character who is mostly like me I don’t know any of these skaters personally, and I don’t want to venture into disrespectful territory by pretending that I do. But Alysa Liu’s ‘Promise’ short program has resonated with me deeply - it’s obviously very personal to her, yet the lyrics and the character she portrays also leave enough room for the spectator to interpret with their own feelings. The best comeback program ever.

my ship that never sailed Not a ship (again, because we are talking about actual living people), but the “what if” of Worlds 2020 still makes me pause and wonder five years later. Would have Sasha Trusova had a clean free ? Would have Alena Kostornaia faltered after her perfect debut season ? Would have Anna Shcherbakova prevailed with her mentality of steel ? I SO wish I could just take a glimpse at this alternate timeline to see what would have happened to these three girls, had these Worlds taken place.

But out of curiosity, I’d love to know what character you were expecting here ? :3 I didn’t have the faith to crawl out of bed to search my books, but I had noticed this discrepancy between book 1 and TAC, yes :/ Oh well, another instance of Eoin Colfer’s tumultuous relationship with lore consistency ^^ I completely agree about the different treatment Artemis seems to have received from his father, it’s also my interpretation :) I just wish it was expanded more on, because this premise is so fascinating to me - if Grandfather Fowl was this much nicer with his grandson, then how did Tim feel and react about that ?! Why doesn’t he reflect more about this in TEC ?!! Why doesn’t Artemis think more about his grandfather, the stories he was told, how different or similar he was to his own father ?!!!!! GAAAAAAH this is so frustrating :’(( As for my headcanons on master Arcand Fowl the Third… Maybe someday ;)

🎤 Character you least understand?

That’s such a tricky question to answer, depending on how you interpret “understand”. Thank you for asking ! After pondering for a bit, I think I’ll say Artemis’ grandfather. What I don’t understand about this person, is why we know so absolutely little about him, when he should be SO important to explain why Tim became Tim, and thus how Artemis became Artemis. The little we do know about this grandfather just feels off and weird to me. Basically, he’s only truly mentioned three times : - In book 1, Angeline mistakes Artemis for his grandfather, and talks to him extremely fondly and casually, even calling him (in the French version at least) by the most informal term possible to adress a grandparent/FIL ; indicating a very warm and soft relationship ? Though it might just be her psychotic episode distorting the actual truth of how they interacted ? - Then Tim, in TEC, claims that his father only treated him as a businessman and barely knew him as a person ; if his relationship with his father was so cold and distant, why would Angeline show this man such kindness, when we know how fierly protective she is of the ones she loves ? - And then, in TAC Artemis recalls a fond memory of spending time in his grandfather’s workshop. Sure it might be Angeline’s father in this memory but I don’t think it is. I feel like Tim’s father deserved to be a much more prominent, menacing shadow, even being long dead before the start of the first book. I would have loved to know more about him (like, I don’t know, a name would have been nice ^^”), but that’s also just me wanting to know more about the Fowl family in general. The good thing here at least, is that there is such little lore that it gives a lot of leeway for headcanons 😈 And oh, how many do I have about this man 😈

Yeeessss !!!! I'm super happy you picked up on this detail about Holly's ears 😃 I've always drawn her (and generally elves from AF) with really long ears, I'm especially meticulous about them in my design and fanfics precisely because I absolutely want to bring out more cat-like behavioural features in elves. I really like when fae folks are less anthropomorphised, more animal or even alien-looking. What I love about long ears is how expressive they can be ; droopy when sad, turned back when scared and angry, upright when surprised... Which fits quite nicely with the canon than elves are particularly emotional - I design elves with big eyes and long ears because then everything in their features and behaviours unconsciously underlines how they are feeling. I mean, think Judy Hopps from Zootopia : the animators did such a wonderful job using her ears as an acting tool just as much as her eyes and other facial expressions. She's such a lively and feisty character, who wears her heart literally on top of her head on her sleeve 💜 No wonder a lot of people made the connection with AF ! *realizes she just maniacally wrote some two paragraphs post in two minutes almost unprompted about fairy ears at almost midnight* ... Eheh. Thanks for the reblog and kind words ! Sorry for the digression 😅

😡 Reluctant allies 😡

I just love early series Artemis and Holly foes-to-frenemies dynamic. Even though they hate each other's guts, you can feel that Artemis respects and looks up to Holly ; and that Holly empathises and genuinely wants to understand Artemis. I'm relatively pleased with Artemis' suit ; I absolutely despise drawing suits with every fiber of my being. ... Which is a little bit of an issue when you want to draw Artemis Fowl, as you can imagine.

Don't look at the background though. It's trash 🫠

Another ask, and this one is pretty specific :3 Who is gonna help Artemis chose the clothes for the heist not-Fairy-Thief-heist? Or he will do that himself? Because TOD presents him already into the heist, but wouldn't it be funny to see him planning one AND having decide how to dress/somebody helping him to? Early 2000s fashion was... something XD

Well, since he’s not exactly on speaking terms with Juliet after Artemis Experiments Weird, he can’t ask for her input and she is the only one that could have actively helped him there. So instead, he does "a ton of research" (aka he watched Mean Girls on 2x speed and took screenshots and notes) and then raids Angeline's and Juliet’s closets to compose an outfit that seems fitting ^^"

I want the heist scene in Pareidolia Agent to really be a parallel to TOD, so the plan is that the scene starts in media res like in the book :)
