My disappointing watermelons from this past fall. In case you are wondering, they looked and tasted completely normal despite being smaller than they should have been.
This money tree looks so much better than mine! Mine is slowly bouncing back after I didn't keep up on watering it for a while.
The Pachira Aquatica “Guiana Chestnut” (sometimes sold as a “Money Tree/Money plant”) is Native to Central and South America and usually grows in swamps. It’s no coincidence that mine is doing so well in a small low light north facing window.
These houseplants are commonly sold smaller with braided trunks but in the wild this tree can grow up to 50 ft tall (this probably won’t happen in my home, but one can dream). I got this specific plant at a Costco for $28 in autumn.
I'm literally in love with this idea. I am trying to read more often. A lot of my classes are teaching/math heavy so I feel guilty reading outside of those classes, but I'm looking to change that this semester. This looks so cool!
my book journal is literally the only thing in my life that I have committed to and do consistently
You mean I have like 10 more years of this?
Ughhhhhhhhh
being in your 20s is just going through everyday wondering is this a defining moment? is this a defining moment? is this a defining moment? is this a defining mo
Dark, light, grey, and science
Lmao I'm a mess 😂
dark academia: you have 3 copies of to Kill a Mockingbird, you won't shut up your current obsession, you were too shy to answer questions in class even though you knew every answer. despite being super capable, you still wing a lot of tasks. also self-care but make it ~ edgy ~.
light academia: you're the teachers pet, but like in a good way? you probably tried to learn an instrument like the flute in school but haven't played it since, always holding iced coffee, works way better in an Organised Study Group with like minded pals.
pastel academia: all the coloured highlighters imaginable, and the neatest handwriting? studying anywhere BUT their room (cute café yes please), if you're nice to them they will fall in love with you, you probably haven't seen their natural hair colour.
grey academia: takes lots of notes but can they read them?, cried listening to Greta Thunberg in 1975's song, "gender is a social construct", surprisingly good at time management, probably short and angry, constantly trying to tell their parents how to be "woke."
classic academia: your cat is your best friend, always dreamt about having a bookstore café when you were older, definitely participating in goodreads reading challenge, you shock friends on your ability to always sleep on time, quiet until people get to know you (and discover you're ~quirky~)
science academia: you are not capable of liking things casually: it's all or nothing, constantly complaining about how difficult your subjects are but knowing this is exactly what you want to do, well practiced at pulling all-nighters, probably got some sort of nerdy/edgy tattoo.

1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8ish (my ancient chromebook is not really compatible with zoom + a little programming). Online learning only made these even more apparent. My heart goes out for the kids in K-12 the most though. If this were to happen when I was in K-12 I probably wouldn't have passed my classes.
I feel that in the studyblr community nobody actively talks about the study environment some of us have, so shoutout to those students that:
• live with their parents (not everyone goes to college/uni where they have dorms, and even then, not everyone can afford it)
• have to deal with parents/family members constantly arguing in the background
• work / have to worry heavily about just getting by (paying rent, groceries, medication)
• need loud music to study and drown outside noises
• can not "study prettily" at coffee shops
• take care of other family members, and thus have to be ready to drop whaterever they are doing to assist them at any time
• can not concentrate or get "in the zone" no matter what they do
• do not have a personal computer/tablet
• do not have a room of their own
• are neurodivergent and the advice of most study masterpost/tips is not applicable.
You are valid, you are seen, you are not alone. If nobody has told you already: if you are trying the best you can then the best you can is good enough.
sincerely, a student who needed to hear this.
Studying with the boys (my trees Monty and Ray and my doggo Teddy and my succulents and cacti). I'm really not in the mood to study, but it needs to happen.
Yesterday was a very tough day. I cried a bunch. My grandma gave up and they're moving her from the rehab portion of the facility to long term. My family is talking about hospice. I had to help my aunt and great aunt find a wedding certificate because they need it to help my grandma claim my grandpa's retirement benefits (he died a little over a month ago but we still cant find it). It was a very hard day. I did a window visit with her (covid) and I called her so we could talk but she dropped the phone and couldn't pick it up. She had to sign some papers for another life insurance claim and it was very hard to watch. She struggled to lift her arms and was crying the whole time but it had to be done by that day. She was so weak she couldn't turn her head to see us. It's hard watching her go because she was like a mother to me. My own mother is just unstable and horrible at parenting. Up until my grandma got cancer, she filled in the holes for my own mother's pathetic excuse for parenting. I lived at her house for a decade and lived nextdoor to her house for nearly another decade. It's hard to let go.
This semester needs to end 😫😢😓
School has been a bit chaotic. I had to take a couple days off to recover from the first dose of the vaccine (I'm notoriously bad about shots). While I'm so incredibly grateful that I could get it, I was knocked out for 2 whole days and am behind.
72 hours of chaos:
●read a chapter + notes + watched necessary videos and presentations
●graphic organizer activity for this (past) week (mind map with bubbl.us or whatever that took too long)
●discussion readings + post + reply
●19 page assignment
●"long term assignment" that was a 4-5 page essay in response to an article that I did within 12 hours
●170 minutes of stats videos + notes
●initial contribution for stats group project
●lots of essay revising for a comp class + submission
●reading this week's essay for comp class and prepared notes
●shoveling my corner house and my grandma's house *twice*
I wish I could say that tomorrow is going to be better, but it's not :/
My region is currently being pummeled by a snow storm and I'm going to have to get up early early to shovel 7-12 inches of snow before my online comp class and another grueling day of online learning while my grandma is currently dying alone in a hospital with a positive covid test along with many other health issues
