the thing is. there was a way to write the bucktaylor breakup in a much more coherent way that didn't make buck look an unreasonable freak. it's simple -- when hen and chimney ask bobby and athena how they knew where they were, have bobby and athena tell them that they got a lot of 911 calls from jonah's neighbors who heard suspicious noises and were moved to call 911 because they heard about him from the evening news. cut to reveal: taylor kelly aired the segment about jonah before they caught him.
this way, the buck/taylor conflict becomes much more meaty and complex: taylor legitimately would have betrayed buck's trust in this instance and gone behind his back, but she also would've been vindicated in her choice to do so because it saved hen & chim's lives. thus they both have points, and they break up over the fact that they have irreconcilable priorities -- taylor will always choose the truth & the greater good, and buck will always value interpersonal trust more.
the problem with the way it was written in the show is that by the time taylor did the segment on jonah, he was already caught and she knew he was already caught, and thus all of buck's reasons for not wanting her to do the segment (#1: they didn't have 100% proof; #2: airing the segment could make jonah target hen & chim) were null and void at that point. so buck looks like a whiny unreasonable asshole when actually for once i don't think he's supposed to, i think we're supposed to think it's a moral gray area. but it's not. because they wrote it bad. but it would've been SO EASY to write it well, and that's what makes it so frustrating.
yeah idk man maybe i just don't like it when characters whose whole story is about choosing to live and overcoming suicidal ideation end up dying in a hero sacrifice. kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth, not gonna lie.
"dad would be so proud of you" is literally not a complement considering he was an abusive acholic asshole and bobby was the one who found him dead. not a complment and most likely a way to try to manipulate bobby. fuck that actualy
buck is so so good at the bits of parenting that eddie is struggling with at the moment, and eddie sees that as a personal failing on his part because he thinks he has to be everything to chris at once. but actually they can both parent chris, they can complement each other!!! he just hasn't realised that yet but he's so so close!!!!
The kind of posts I have seen on here since the last episode aired (and let’s be honest for a LONG while now) make wonder why some people still watch this show.
Like, if you hate the characters so much and every storyline that is being written, why bother watching? If it makes you so miserable, what’s the point?
There are so many fucked up things happening in this world, life is way too short to have a 60 minute procedural tv show make you feel so many negative emotions. It’s okay not to watch anymore if it no longer brings you joy.
The thing about 911 is that the shipping drama and discourse surrounding it completely belies how insane this show truly is. A man is attacked by a shark on the freeway. Ghosts are probably real, and so are curses. The most recent season opens with a bee-nado that segues into a plotline about an autistic half-orphan child landing a broken plan. The most dramatic moment between the fandom's favorite ship is one of the characters getting shot by a sniper in broad daylight in the suburban streets of Los Angeles. Buck's introductory scene of the entire show is him stealing a firetruck to have sex with a Tinder hookup. The fire captain's backstory is an addiction that led to the death of 148 people. He's best friends with his wife's ex-husband and once proposed to said ex-husband's boyfriend on his behalf while that boyfriend was performing brain surgery on a man in the middle of a burning building. There's a guy who sneezes every time he lies and then lies so hard he almost dies. One of the main characters gets rebar impaled through his skull and is back to work the next month with no lasting side-effects. They basically never fight fires.
Let me hold your hand while I say this - I absolutely do want to read your PHD thesis on Buddie
Every person out here spending hours writing an essay about framing, costume, wording, scene parallels, colour palettes, etc, etc is a true hero to me
"are you?" maddie stfu ik you're so done with him
AND ANOTHER THING:
I am disappointed that we didn't get a scene where Buck and Eddie actually went through the house and packed up everything Eddie wanted to bring with him to El Paso. It would have been nice to see them interact as Eddie decided what furniture and memories were the most important, that he couldn't part with. Also, it would have been cute to have Buck pick up and pack away something that Eddie may have forgotten about but that he knows Eddie would want to take with him. Because he knows Eddie and what he would find important. I wish they could have had a moment to reminisce about the memories they had together and with Chris in the house before they said their goodbyes. But alas, we did not get to see that 😔
"You matter to me" Ugh just tell him you love him pleaseeee
That hug did not feel platonic in any way. I'll have to go back and watch it later, but the closeup focus on their faces before they pull away feels so much more significant in a way their previous hugs have not.
The awkwardness with which they interacted with each other as well can only be described as "how people act around their crush, nervous af"
Buck was so fucking awkward I love that dork. He does not know how to act normal about his feelings. He has to know, right??? The final shot of him as Eddie drives away feels like a revelation
I NEED TO KNOW IF EDDIE LEFT THE COUCH TO BUCK
WHERE DID THEY TOOK HER?
Is that the closest we are gonna get to feelings this episode? I am glad it's no longer unsaid!!! But I'm hoping he goes from defensive denial to acceptance real quick 😩
Currently hyperfocusing on 9-1-1 and Buddie instead of studying like I should lol. 24 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ (they/them)
