That Luigi movie, huh?

nobody asked for this from a heavily romance-saturated show, but samantha jones from sex and the city is aromantic and i will not stand down on this.  she’s an aroallo icon in a friend group that practically revolves around romantic relationships/endeavours & i think that’s very brave.

first off, while the other three characters basically obsess over dating woes, samantha has zero interest in dating and instead has lots of casual sex, which her friends are tbh judgey about :/ but anyway, samantha says throughout the show that she’s not a relationship person and doesn’t date (or want to date).

she talks about her sexual encounters instead when her friends talk about romance.  if her friends refer to it as dating, she will correct them and say it’s just sex.

she’s extremely dismissive of romance and the pursuit of it.

she doesn’t want anyone she has sex with to get attached to her; it makes her uncomfortable.

she’s repulsed by the idea of marriage and having kids.  while she’s ultimately supportive of her friends when they get married, her gut reaction is firstly disgust and confusion.

she does get into a few relationships in the series, but i don’t think they contradict her aromanticism at all, and here’s why:

most of the time, her sexual relations are entirely sexual–i.e. not even platonic.  she says at one point in the show that women are for friendship and men are for fucking.  it’s a shitty view to have, but this pretty clearly indicates that she doesn’t see the men she has sex with as people she wants to spend time with in a platonic, let alone romantic, context.

the times she finds herself interested in a relationship are the times when she actually does enjoy spending time with them outside of a sexual context/purpose.  i think she mistakes this for romantic attraction because she’s so dismissive of the idea of being friends with men.

she actually dislikes the relationship aspects of a relationship–as examples, she hates emotional intimacy and finds it tedious, and she doesn’t want to centre her life or any decisions or even weekend plans around other people.  she puts herself (and her career, which is her own business) first, always.

she ultimately ends all of these relationships because she’s unhappy in them in some way.  even in the two that were more serious, she tells them “i love you, but i love me more” and breaks it off.  a life in a relationship is not the life she wants for herself.

and she doesn’t end up in a relationship at the end of the series!  there’s no “finding the right person”–it’s herself and her friends.  she remains single and happy, completely subverting the trope that a happy ending = ending up in a relationship.  not only that, but when her friends end up in relationships, they don’t drift away or de-prioritise their friendship, they all remain close!  good for her.

'Genya, can I ask you something?'

'Huh, sure, what's on offer?'

'Well... I would like to know, look, maybe you don't know, but, I'm Muichiro's partner...', what a revelation, no one would have known, by the way, it's sarcasm.

Genya pretended not to know, it's a shame he doesn't know how to hide it, well, that wasn't the point.

'Well, what do I have to do with that?'

'The thing is... I don't know, I don't fully understand Muichiro, I know I am his boyfriend, but, I would like him to treat others the same way he treats me...'

'Can you be more specific?'

And so, the story began that occurred during training at Tokito's estate, the preference was evident, it was obvious that Muichiro, although he loved spending time with Tanjiro, had to have some "toughness", but he couldn't, he was softer and understanding with him than with the others.

Let's say that was their "first fight", it wasn't anything serious, it was just that they hadn't agreed on how to treat each other, but they were still exchanging letters, so it wasn't that serious.

'I understand, and why don't you ask Zenitsu better? I mean, he's this stupid boar's boyfriend.'

'WHO ARE YOU CALLING STUPID?! MONJIRO! GET OFF ME!'

'I did, I asked Zenitsu, but he says that not even he himself knows how he puts up with Inosuke and his mood swings... So, I wanted to know, you're Senjuro's partner, right? How do you understand him?', eeeem, there was quite a difference.

Genya sighed, he had to admit that he thought the only reason Senjuro "respected" him was because of his height, but, he didn't know exactly.

He didn't deny that he loved him, but, it was a little complicated to understand, but I think he understood Tanjiro's point of view a little.

'Well, uuuuuh, let's say that our relationship is just starting to be stable, if you can put it that way. Senjuro, he's a good boy, but we're not always on the same page, and the only thing I do when it's a somewhat childish reason is to tickle him until he accepts that I'm right or make him accept that he's right.'

Tanjiro is not going to lie, that was one of the options, but when he tried to do it, the roles ended up being reversed and thus he discovered that hashiras had an amazing power to blow raspberries, he did not want to repeat that.

'Eeeem, Tanjiro? All good?'

'It's a bit difficult, considering the difference in strength between Senjuro and Muichiro, I tried to do it... I ended up crying and barely breathing'

'You're weak Monjiro! I wouldn't let them do that to me!', it's because your boyfriend is Zenitsu, Inosuke.

Anyway, Tanjiro asked Genya for help and he agreed, and do I know where Inosuke came from? Well, he was nosy where they didn't call him

'Tokito-San! There's a savage here!'

'What? Ginko, it's daytime... Demons don't come out during the day...'

'PIG ATTACK!!', and you will already know who the 'savage' Ginko was referring to was.

However, Inosuke doesn't know anything, even though he tried to tickle him, guess what, he didn't succeed and only earned Muichiro slapping him and Tanjiro and Genya having to separate him so he doesn't slap him back.

'LET ME GO! HOW DARE YOU DO THAT TO THE GREAT INOSUKE?!'

'Tanjiro, I thought I told you that... Inosuke... Wasn't a good influence on you'

'Ehehehehe, he's someone you can love, just, it's necessary to understand him...'

Yes, well, Muichiro sighed, he doesn't wanted another fight, but still, he told Tanjiro that he had to calm Inosuke down if he wanted to be on his estate and that's how it happened.

'So, how's your training going...'

'Well, I guess, some leave a lot to be desired... Others, they're good but still lacking, I'm trying to be a good teacher, but it doesn't seem to be enough'

Genya motioned to Tanjiro, he nodded and approached Muichiro, giving him a hug from behind, smiling as he snuggled up and seemed to relax.

'What if you take a break?'

'No need, I can handle this, I'm a hashira.'

'But still, a break isn't a bad thing at all'

'I guess not, maybe I'll consider it', well, this was too boring for Inosuke.

Genya coughed (sneakly), Tanjiro nodded and Muichiro's eyes snapped open when he felt a pair of fingers gently brush against his back, quickly stopping Tanjiro's fingers, no, he couldn't...

'What were you trying to do?'

'Well, convince you to take a break and be cheerful...?'

'Bad choice, now I'm gonna...'

'I'm sorry Tokito-San, but, I'm helping Tanjiro...'

Muichiro frowned, who did he think he was?! He only allowed that to Tanjiro, to no one else, but it didn't bother him, he just had to get it off his back and the matter was settled, shame about the height difference.

'Do you have any idea what trouble you just got yourself into?'

'I won't do anything for now, the one who will do it will be Tanjiro'

'He's not able to... GRK... Ta-Tahanjihiro...'

'If you're not allowed to relax because of training, then I'll help you to do it!'

And that was what Muichiro feared, why? Almost no one of the hashiras could make him laugh, if someone tried to tickle him, he would immediately bite them or kick them, but he didn't know how to let anyone touch him, so... Tanjiro was so far the only person who seemed to be able to do it, no.

He knew how he did it, but his touch was so soft and precise that Muichiro couldn't even think of an excuse or a plan to get out of there.

'WHY HE LAUGHED WITH YOU AND NOT ME?!'

'Maybe you were too rough with him, there's no need for that, Inosuke, a few strokes will do. For example, see if I gently trace his name on his belly'

'Tahahanjirohoho! Hehehey!! Stohohohoooop...', well, that was weird, wasn't it?

Inosuke didn't understand, how could soft and imprecise touches be better than hard and precise ones? Tanjiro showed him how he could do it and boy did Inosuke learn quickly.

Muichiro couldn't even get angry, it wasn't something that bothered him, even if the touch didn't come from Tanjiro, he seemed to like that activity.

'Do you feel more relaxed? He hasn't asked us to stop!'

'It fehehehels go-gohood! Ehehehehe! I-ihihihit doehehehesn't ahahahahaha bohotheheheheher me! Ahahahaha!! He-hehehehehey!! My neheheck!!'

'Thank goodness, I thought he would bite me for trying'

'Hahaha, calm down Genya, Muichiro can't be mad at you for this, he's liking it!', man, what a shame.

Muichiro could only nod as he continued squealing and laughing at the soft touches of his boyfriend and his friends, it wasn't that bad, he was even able to say that he didn't want them to stop, he liked that way of relaxing.

As the centuries pass and wars become less commonplace, the five martial gods start being worshipped as gods of love as well.

-The ju yang thing resists the rest of time, and nan yang is worshipped as a god of sex and fertility (which is ironic since he’s been married to a man for what, 500 years?)

-Xuan zhen is now a god of loyalty and friendship. It’s common for children to include beads with the characters of his name in friendship bracelets.

-Ming guang is also still worshipped as a god of romantic love.

-Tai hua is worshipped as a god of familial love and filial piety. The story of how he raised guzi (who later ascended as a god protector of family and children) became well known across the three realms.

-Qi Ying became a god of homosexual love, after a little book called “the ballad of qi ying and yin yu” appeared overnight in every single one of his temples. His temples get a lot of visitors during pride month and it’s common for mlm and wlw couples to ask for his blessing before getting married.

I just want to say that it is important (to me at least) not to mischaracterise Mario when it comes to Bowuigi fanfictions. I especially think that people are not giving him the complexity that he deserves.

Mario loves Luigi and Luigi loves Mario. They care very very deeply for each other. Mario would do anything to make sure his brother is happy and safe.

That means, it entirely depends on the context as to how he would take Bowser and Luigi dating. But, regardless of how he took it, it would be because he wants his brother to be happy and safe.

Let us say Bowser is on civil terms with everyone and is not a threat and Mario knows he makes Luigi happy. Bowser is not making Luigi unsafe, if anything them being together makes Luigi safe. And he's making him happy. Even if Mario hated Bowser, I highly doubt he would be anything other than supportive towards their relationship. At least, to Luigi's face. Give me Mario who lets Luigi gush to him and helps him plan dates and is nothing but supportive, while also having his own personal feelings on the relationship. Personally feelings he won't let get in the way of his brothers happiness.

And seriously, I really think people need to consider that Mario would not just threaten Bowser into not breaking his brother's heart. He would help Bowser. Just picture him finding out, storming to Bowser's castle, and then spending 3 hours lecturing Bowser about all of the things Luigi likes and dislikes and needs in a partner.

On the flip sides, in stories in which Mario knows Bowser makes Luigi happy but believes that he is too dangerous. Give me complexity to his lack of support in the relationship. Trying his best to keep his brother happy and safe.

After his attempts to reason with Luigi end in argument, he's guilt ridden at how upset he's making Luigi. But he'd rather his brother be miserable than hurt. And he knows what Bowser is capable of.

That's not to say he can't be mad at Luigi! But I think that people are missing this layer of guilt that could add more dimension to stories. I mean, after all, it is a very good turning point if Mario realises that in his attempts to prevent his brother getting hurt, he hurt him. Maybe he and Bowser to toe-to-toe, and he's shocked to find our that Bowser is mad at him. Then horrified to hear Bowser thinks of him as a danger to Luigi's wellbeing in much the same way Mario thinks of Bowser.

Another thing is considering how it would be if Bowser was at war with the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario is not just a brother but a defender of the innocent. If he doesn't side with his brother he betrays him, but if he does it betrays the people who rely on him.

I view Mario as a soldier a lot of the time. He has very black and white thinking when it comes to the war. He has to. He can't start thinking of the other side as having a good reason to fight, he can't question his own reason for fighting. You cannot do that when you are at war, it gets people killed. His worldview is unshakable, and to have his brother be dating not just the enemy but the leader of the enemy. It is a betrayal unlike anything he thought he could feel.

Give me a story where Mario's lack of support is rooted in how betrayed he feels by Luigi. The wedge that gets driven between them, make it not just be that Mario doesn't support them, but that Luigi has betrayed him. Give me Mario who loves his brother more than anything in the world watching as his anger drives him further into Bowser's clutches. Make him blind to the reality of their relationship, make him make up every excuse under the sun so he does not have to accept that his brother is safe and happy in being with Bowser--safe and happy in hurting Mario.

Make Mario realise with horror that his brother is safe and happy. Have him be at war with himself. He's angry he's grieving he feels like he's lost him he hates him. But he loves him and fuck he looks happy. And Bowser's doing a better job than he ever could keeping him safe. But no, Bowser is the enemy. How could Luigi do this? If not for their people, then for Mario? Mario loves Luigi more than anything in this world, he would do anything for him. And yet Luigi clearly doesn't love him enough not to date the leader of the group that he is at war with.

Just.

Give me some complex brotherly moments please.
