it is going to be midnight soon. jonathan had an accident with their car this morning, resulting in a "mild" concussion. "mild", of course, in the context of a concussion, meaning that it is not life threatening.

by life threatening, of course, i mean that they are in no danger of dying.

and by dying, of course, i mean the physical death, the cessation of electrical impulses sent from the brain, and so on, and so forth.

that said, as someone who is intimately familiar with post-concussive syndrome and the long-term effects of traumatic brain injury, i reminded them that there is more to life than simply "not dying".

I told them to head straight to bed, that I would draft an email to their supervisor, and then read it out loud to them before sending it. That way, they could focus on recovering instead of work.

They seemed irritated. I am aware that i am somewhat overbearing. I am also aware of the fact that they struggle so often, that there are many days where they can't even leave their bed. Constant migraines and vertigo will only exacerbate this.

I don't feel guilty for worrying. I'm not angry at them for snapping, either--they have a concussion. Their brain is, currently, not at its normal range of function. They are allowed a short temper.

I am a bit irritated. This is normal. I have been snapped at, they said something that hurt my feelings. I am also capable of backing off.

Julian is there, currently, and is helping. Jonathan feels guilty for "making" him stay and help. Considering that Julian practically lives at Jon's house for free, I can't imagine he feels too terribly put out, but then, I am not Julian, am I?

This would be easier if I were there. I feel restless, irritated, worried, and jealous. I feel like I should be the one nursing them back to health. I think they can tell.

Oh well.

Gracie is curled up about my shoulder. This is a comfort.

i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.

there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.

anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.

A Better World - create an alternate history timeline

Alter Ego - abandonware birth-to-death life simulator game

Seedship - text-based game about colonizing a new planet

Sandboxels or ThisIsSand - free-falling sand physics games

Little Alchemy 2 - combine various elements to make new ones

Infinite Craft - kind of the same as Little Alchemy

ZenGM - simulate sports

Tamajoji - browser-based tamagotchi

IFDB - interactive fiction database (text adventure games)

Written Realms - more text adventure games with a user interface

The Cafe & Diner - mystery game

The New Campaign Trail - US presidential campaign game

Money Simulator - simulate financial decisions

Genesis - text-based adventure/fantasy game

Level 13 - text-based science fiction adventure game

Miniconomy - player driven economy game

Checkbox Olympics - games involving clicking checkboxes

BrantSteele.net - game show and Hunger Games simulators

Murder Games - fight to the death simulator by Orteil

Cookie Clicker - different but felt weird not including it. by Orteil.

if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.

Hey, you are not an embarrassment for not knowing how to do certain household chores/basic self-care. They do not come naturally to us. A lot of it takes practice! Maybe you had a neglectful guardian. Maybe you had one that was very coddling and never thought to teach you. Maybe you haven't lived in a place where these things were available to you or needed. Doesn't matter. It's okay to not know and far more common than you might realise.

That said, this website provides very simple instructions on how to do everyday tasks such as making your bed, using a washing machine, cooking different foods, washing dishes, taking a shower, etc. All you have to do is use the search bar to find the task you're struggling with, and it'll come up with what you need + other related how-to's:)

If you're having trouble navigating it, let me provide you with some examples:

How to clean dishes by hand

How to make your bed (with visual demonstrations of each step!)

How to fold clothes (with visual demonstrations of each step!)

How to take a shower & dry yourself off (also provides ways to shave beards, armpits, legs and genitals)

How to shave legs, armpits, beards, pubic areas, etc. (a more in-depth guide)

How to mop the floor

How to sweep the floor

How to swallow pills

How to make small talk

How to make eye contact in different situations (or how to avoid it while still looking natural)

It's also perfectly okay if these don't help or aren't appealing to you. Unfortunately, nothing helps everyone.

09/30/2022

Back into the office with me. I had one day to work at my own desk, and it was lovely--albeit loud, due to the dogs. But now, finally, I get to rest for the weekend.

Tomorrow, I'm going to bake, I am going to write, I am going to rest, and I will not take the opportunity to do any chore that would make me feel tired and need to return to bed. I will begin my morning by showering, then taking care of my skin and hair, dressing then making a lovely breakfast and preparing for dinner. I will make a light lunch, then decide what I want to bake.

I have been craving fresh rustic bread. However, I have also been craving something sweet--something with almond. Despite all of my baking endeavors, I have never successfully made a macaron! I would love to achieve the perfect marsala chai macaron. I will have to gauge my energy tomorrow afternoon.

Jonathan is feeling better, though not back to 100%. Julian is coming back to the house tomorrow.

I have a week left to go before I am safe to leave. I hope I make it through in one piece.

Embracing New Beginnings: A Witch's Guide to New Moon Magic

🌑🌟🔮

Tonight, the moon retreats into darkness, marking the beginning of a new lunar cycle. The new moon is a powerful time for setting intentions, initiating new projects, and planting the seeds of your dreams. As the sky is cloaked in darkness, we are given a blank canvas to start fresh and embrace new beginnings. Let's explore the essence of the new moon, how witches can celebrate this mystical phase, and discover rituals, spells, and practices to harness its transformative energy.

The Significance of the New Moon

The new moon symbolizes new beginnings, potential, and the power of intention. It's a time to reflect on your desires, set goals, and align your energy with the universe to manifest your dreams. The absence of moonlight offers a moment of introspection and renewal, making it the perfect time for planting the seeds of future growth.

New Moon Rituals and Practices

🌑 Setting Intentions

Use the new moon's energy to set clear and powerful intentions for the coming month.

1. Find a quiet, sacred space where you can focus without distractions.

2. Light a white or silver candle to represent the new moon's potential.

3. Write down your intentions and goals for the new lunar cycle. Be specific and positive in your wording.

4. Hold the paper in your hands, close your eyes, and visualize your intentions coming to fruition. Feel the emotions associated with achieving your goals.

5. Place the paper on your altar or under the candle, letting the universe know your desires.

🔮 New Moon Meditation

Meditate to connect with your inner self and the new moon's energy.

1. Find a comfortable position and close your eyes.

2. Take deep breaths, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly.

3. Visualize a dark, starry sky, feeling the calm and potential of the new moon.

4. Focus on your intentions, allowing them to take root in your mind and heart.

5. End the meditation by thanking the universe for its support and guidance.

✨ Creating a Vision Board

Manifest your dreams by creating a visual representation of your intentions.

1. Gather magazines, scissors, glue, and a large piece of paper or poster board.

2. Cut out images, words, and symbols that represent your goals and desires.

3. Arrange and glue them onto the board, creating a visual collage of your intentions.

4. Place your vision board somewhere you can see it daily, as a constant reminder of your dreams.

New Moon Spells

🌑 Manifestation Jar Spell

Create a manifestation jar to hold your intentions and attract positive energy.

1. Gather a small jar, paper, pen, and any small items that represent your intentions (e.g., crystals, herbs, charms).

2. Write your intentions on small pieces of paper and fold them.

3. Place the papers and items into the jar, visualizing your intentions manifesting.

4. Seal the jar and place it on your altar or in a special place.

5. Shake the jar whenever you need a reminder of your goals and the new moon's power.

🔮 Cleansing and Renewal Spell

Use the new moon's energy to cleanse and renew your space.

1. Gather a white candle, sage or palo santo, and a bowl of water.

2. Light the candle and the sage or palo santo.

3. Walk around your space, wafting the smoke and visualizing negative energy being cleared away.

4. Sprinkle a few drops of water in each room, symbolizing renewal and fresh beginnings.

5. Close the ritual by thanking the new moon for its cleansing energy.

🌟 Prosperity Spell

Attract abundance and prosperity with a new moon spell.

1. Gather a green candle, a coin, and a piece of paper.

2. Write your financial goals and desires on the paper.

3. Place the coin on top of the paper and light the green candle.

4. Visualize abundance flowing into your life, feeling gratitude for the prosperity already on its way.

5. Let the candle burn down safely, keeping the coin and paper on your altar.

The new moon offers a powerful opportunity to reset, reflect, and initiate new beginnings. By engaging in these rituals, practices, and spells, you can align with the new moon's energy and set the stage for manifesting your deepest desires. As we embrace the darkness of tonight's new moon, may your intentions be clear, your dreams take root, and your spirit be renewed.

Blessed New Moon!
