Calling all BL academics! You should check out Intersections: Gender and Sexuality in Asia and the Pacific Issue 49, June 2023. It's devoted to Thai BL and it's Thai scholars, publishing in English, and available free. So basically everything I ever wanted.
Thai Boys Love (BL)/Y(aoi) in Literary and Media Industries: Political and Transnational Practices - This is the introductory article. One interesting takeaway is that there's a market for western M/M romance in Thailand and I'm dying to know what sort of titles have gotten Thai releases.
Chinese Historical BL by Thai Writers: The Thai BL Polysystem in the Age of Media Convergence - I didn't read this one. It's about the phenomenon of Thai writers writing danmei set in ancient China.
Authorial Revisions of Boys Love/Y Novels: The Dialogue between Activism and the Literary Industry in Thailand - This one was super intersting. It was about how the backlash to certain problematic tropes affected both revisions to Y novels and their tv adaptations. It uses Jittirain as a case study and includes passages from 2gether that were rewritten.
Boys Love (Yaoi) Fandom and Political Activism in Thailand - This article has a lot about Not Me, both about the backlash to the novle due to it being originally a GOT7 fanfic (allegedly) and the political context for the series. It also discusses a few other series related to the youth movement and marriage equality.
Heterosexual Reading vs. Queering Thai Boys' Love Dramas among Chinese and Filipino Audiences -This really only covers up to 2019 and as we all know everything is changing fast. I'll be interested in future scholarship that covers the current period. Basically expands on some of Baudinette's work.
Provincialising Thai Boys Love: Queer Desire and the Aesthetics of Rural Cosmopolitanism -I just skimmed this since I'm not familiar with either series mentioned or the rural culture of Isan.
I watch a lot of dramas and made this list for my friends so they knew which ones I like. Just putting it out there for anyone who wants some good recommendations.

with how sqq looks at lbh here, how was sqq ever surprised that lbh fell in love with him ;-;
A short Drabble based of my other two part soulmate AU for Jack and ZhaoZi.
Tang Yi never gave much thought to his soulmate words. There was always something more pressing in his life, such as looking after Hong Ye, managing the business, of working on his cooking. After Mr Tang gave him a home he simply didnāt bother with the idea of a soulmate. He had all the happiness that he needed.
But then Mr Tang died and he found himself stuck in a hospital bed recovering from a nearly fatal bullet wound to the chest. At first he was so consumed with his grieving emotions and thoughts of revenge that he hadnāt really noticed the man come through the door. The doctor at his bedside had glanced up at the visitor before leaving the room, his departure making Tang Yi adress the man. He was young, probably around his age, with short cut black hair and a expressive face. His eyes were red rimmed and it was clear he had been crying. For a moment Tang Yi wondered why the man had been crying before he recalled the other body. The female officer had also been murdered with Mr Tang. She must have been close to this young officer.
āDo you know who shot you?ā
The question caught Tang Yi by surprise and he felt the scribble on his forearm heat up. Refusing to think about the consequences of the reaction of his words, he schooled his face into a calm expression.
āNoā he stated clearly. He watched as the officerās eyes widened as his hand flew to the back of his neck. But before he could speak the hospital doors flew open and a small guy poked his head through.
āShao Feiā, he called as the officer turned around. āThe boss wants you to head back to the station. Says they need help going through Tangās filesā.
Shao Fei groaned and turned back to glare at Tang Yi. āI know that you know who shot you, no matter what you sayā, he said stubbornly. Tang Yi was just noticing how big Shao Feiā ears were. (Heās on a lot of medication. Sue him) āI promise you that I will figure out the truth and bring the people responsible to justiceā, Shao Fei continued. Tang Yi tilted his head in challenge, meeting Shao Feiās gaze. āLetās hope you get there first thenā, he muttered just loud enough for the other to hear. The pissed off expression Shao Fei gave him almost made him snort. The guy just looked too ridiculous with his monkey ears. As Shao Fei left the room, Tang Yi was left considering their encounter and hoping that he would not have to deal with such a loud impulsive officer again.
Unfortunately, Shao Fei didnāt get the same idea.
For four years the officer pursued him. The guy seemed to pop up everywhere and it was getting on Tang Yiās nerve. He was too busy trying to turn the company legal to pay attention to the stubborn policeman. Every occurrence consisted of Shao Fei asking questions and Tang Yi responding with cool dismissals and negative answers. He half wondered, whenever he gave Shao Fei a thought, why the officer even bothered? He would even turn up when off work! He had to admire his persistence.
As time drew on, Tang Yi started finding benefits to Shao Feiās chase. Leaving anonymous tips at the station about a secret meeting between him and various other gang leaders was a easy way to get his enemies arrested. Besides, Jackās descriptions of Shao Feiās face every time he realised that Tang Yi was not there were too good to be true.
The officer was the best to tease. His face was so expressive that Tang Yi just couldnāt help annoying him just for the reaction. Cuffing him to the elevator with his own handcuffs was by far the funniest. Shao Fei had looked so frustrated and angry that Tang Yi has to fight back a grin. But despite this teasing and the continued persistence Shao Fei, neither men discussed the subject of soulmates.
That is until they were kidnapped and hiding on some mountain side.
It was Shao Fei who broached it first. He was quietly watching the fire Tang Yi had made when he spoke. āDid your words ever react?ā He asked. The question surprised Tang Ti who paused his action of poking the flames and turned to face the other. Shao Fei looked tired and his face had a slight vulnerability that Tang Yi had never seen before. He was not meeting his gaze, eyes fixed on the fire in front of him and Tang Yi could see the blood on his sleeve where his tie was wrapped around the wound.
āItās justā, Shao Fei continued after a minute of Tang Yi not responding. āWhen mine heated up, it caught me by surprise. Its on the back of my neck so I never really paid attention to it. It was a complete refusal anywayā. Shao Fei shifted, voice becoming sad. His shirt collar moved and Tang Yi could just about see the neat word āNoā inscribed at the base of his neck. Tang Yi didnāt say anything. After a few minutes Shao Fei headed inside the shelter, leaving Tang Yi with his thoughts.
The first time Tang Yi felt the urge to kiss Shao Fei was when he was looking for his lighter. He was so afraid that he had lost it somewhere on that mountain that when Shao Fei turned up with the lighter in hand, Tang Yi was shocked by the sudden urge to kiss the other senseless arising in his chest. As he always did, he ignored the feeling and thanked the other.
However, the more his ignored his feelings, the more they seemed to rise. It was particularly bad when the puppy like officer invited himself to stay over under the excuse of āprotectingā Tang Yi. Especially since the self sacrificing idiot kept on getting himself injured for him. Although, his flustered expression when Tang Yi gave him a back massage was hilarious.
But then Shao Fei got shot protecting Hong Ye and Tang Yi was consumed by a sudden fear of losing the annoying policeman. He hadnāt even realised that he had began to care for him until the threat of losing him was too much. Every time he returned to the hospital, he was struck by feelings of care and admiration for the man in the bed. At first he ignored the feelings until Shao Fei would look up and greet him with a smile that Tang Yi couldnāt help but return.
So when Shao Fei asked him to walk with him up to the hospital roof, Tang Yi happily agreed. Watching Shao Fei overlook the city and drink in the fresh air left a warm smile on his face. When Shao Fei turned around and pulled him into a kiss, Tang Yi responded before he could even think things through, kissing back with so much hunger that it caught Shao Fei by surprise.
As they finally pulled away, Shao Fei rested his forehead against Tang Yiās. āI have been pursuing you for four years Tang Yiā, he grinned. āCan I assume that this is an answer to my confession?ā Tang Yi smiled at Shao Feiās proud puppy like expression. āYesā, he answered. āI accept your confessionā. Shao Fei laughed triumphantly before pulling him in for another kiss.
Agust D2 new sic video reminds e of the story of the man in the iron mask. A great movie.
Think about the au.

Just a thought.
The Mega Fandom Update
Honestly, you guys, I didn't like Beyond Evil, but I forced myself through 3 episodes of mehness because my fellow TDJ bishes told me it was good and I trusted you guys.
However, I am extremely glad that I kept going because once we hit episode 4?????? Oh men, I'm ready for this show now. I'm in episode 6 and I trying to slow down. I will really hate it when I get to the end and there's nothing left to watch. I love this show.
Anyhooooos, I said I'd comment on the similarities between all 4 of them as I go so I'm here with a longer list.
Spoilers for the following movie/shows:
The Merciless
Beyond Evil
The Devil Judge
Strangers from Hell
I was drawn to them all because of the queercoding of the characters. I'm not going to lie about that so let's just get that out of the way. All 4 of these stories are badass, bl dramas hiding in plain sight in my opinion.
They all feature a pair of men that have a sizable age-gap between them. We don't know the characters' ages, but if we go by the actors', the closest is a 7-year gap from SfH.
They all centre around crime. (M: crime syndicate, BE: murder investigation, TDJ: criminal prosecution, SfH: serial murder)
They all have a bad ass woman in law enforcement who takes a special interest in the case.
They all have possessive sidekicks who kind of worship the ground the DILF walks on. I would like to point out that that TDJ is the only one where the sidekick is much younger than the DILF (K). Also, I'm not so sure about Jeongju yet, but he hasn't shown any signs of possessiveness yet. Let's see in the future.
*the side kicks in M and SfH died. We don't have confirmation about K being dead yet and I haven't finished BE, so we'll see next time.
They all have a "community" that surrounds the DILf with unerring loyalty. Whether it's a gang of mobsters, the police precinct, the ragtag revolutionists or building tenants.
The younger guy in the pairing has accused the DILF of murder, at least once.
Like, I'm happy about these shows. It's been a while since I was immersed in kdramas and I'm not even surprised that these are the shows and movie that have dragged me back in.
If you have watched one or two of these shows, I advise that you check out the rest. They're all so engaging.

13. Nie Huaisang also deserves more credit. (The guy is practically as sly as Jin Guangyao.)
14. Wen Qing is beauty, is grace and will most certainly punch you in the face.
15. Lan Wangji has the most beautiful and powerful resting bitch face ever!
This was so good. Highly recommend.
I know I am late to the game, but I been a little busy. For starters, my aunt moved to another state just a couple of days ago, so I helped her pack stuffs and get everything set up. I was pretty much with her 24/7. Then I helped my cousin moved out too, and I was also busy with my own work. But, that didnāt stop me from watching some BL during my free time, and one that really got my attention and I think deserves all the hype is GAMEBOYS
Gameboys is the story of Cairo and Gav. Cairo is a gamer who streams his games, and Gav was one of his followers. After Gav wins a match againts Cairo, he sends him a friend request in a platform I feel its like facebook (lmao). Gav doesnāt waste time, and tells him that if he wins another match againts Cairo, he is going to start flirting with him. Gav wins the game and he starts flirting with Cairo.Ā
However, although this is all cute and all, what got my attention was not just their love story, but where and how their friendship ( and later relationship) starts, but how the director and crew incorporated what some of us are living during the pandemic. For instance:Ā
1. Lockdown
The majority of our countries, states, and cities, are in lockdown. Although some of our countries are moving faster than other in reopening again everything, we are still limited in the number of times we can go out, or we have curfews. The majority of us are trying to keep ourselves busy, trying to forget a little than we are living in the middle of a pandemic and that doctor, nurses, and essential workers are putting their lives on risks for us. We see can Gav and Cairo talk about how they are trying to live their lives in lockdown, and how their whole lives changed. Moreover, every time we see how they get into social media there are posts about how essential workers are doing, what their government is doing right or wrong. I think in a way, the director is making a wake up call to some governments that are not helping or protecting their people. For instance, I do not know if I mentioned this but I was not born in the United States, I was born in El Salvador, and although the president of El Salvador did an amazing job to try and stop the spreading of the virus before it hit our country, a lot of other countries did not, like Mexico, Peru, Brazil, and Ecuador. I am not saying that other politicians did not do what they could to protect their people, but right now, as far as I know, are hot spots in South America. Even here, Texas right now is worse than what New York was when the pandemic started, our governor Cuomo, is trying to stop people from Texas coming to NY, because we barely got out of the worse.Ā
2. Essential workers
Through the whole series we see how Cairo and Gav supporting essential workers, whether it is by reposting a status, or by preparing meals. More than once Gav was preparing healthy meals for the essential workers. I think this dynamic is helping us to appreciate what these people are doing for us. THEY ARE HEROES, and Gav and Cairo are helping us see that what we can do is staying home. In the later episode we see different doctors and nurses helping people, covering themselves with masks that look like those in scary movies. It is just a wake up call for us too.Ā
3. Families fighting the virus
If you watched the show you know that Cairoās dad has the virus. All through the series we see how Cairo seems sad because of it, and I am not giving spoilers but we know now why. If you guys had families, friends, or people you just knew around your neighborhood that had the virus, you know how hard it is for their families. My mother was exposed to the virus, to the point that myself and my father experience the symptoms. I lost some pounds because I was not eating properly due that you literally do not have taste or smell. However, I am thankful to God that our condition was not too bad to go to the hospital. My mother and father did not experience fevers at all, but I did. I had fever for two weeks and I was in the middle of finals at my College too. Either way, when I watched how Cairoās life was put upside down because of his father having the virus, and how much he cared for him, I really felt for him.Ā
4. Friends and Love
I think this is a story that has everything in it. I do not have words to explain enough how Gav and Pearl helped Cairo to be happier in his little and small world where he felt so alone. It is just so magical to see their friendship blossom, as well as the love between Gav and Cairo.Ā
5. Acceptance
I cannot explain either this theme in the story, but I can say the words that Cairoās mom said to himĀ āDonāt apologize for being who you are.ā
I hope you give this BL a try. In this lockdown, Gameboys is literally something I look forward every Friday. I CANāT WAIT FOR EP 9Ā
Side note:Ā
I been having some ideas about a fanfic involving the 4 pillars of GMM, each one having their little story, but they have been friends since high school. I have like an idea, but I do not if you guys would like it. Each couple will face little obstacles like
Kris and Singto would like to adopt a child
Bright and Win having a hard time with their coworkers to acceptĀ
Off and Gun trying to marryĀ
Tay and New trying to come out to their parents.Ā
And I have like little guest in each episode like Mew and Gulf, and other people from different BLs⦠I have like the whole plot of the story of Krist and Singto, but just let me know guys if you want to read something like thatĀ
All love,Ā
Lullaby
Listening to Nirvana and it reminds me of Batman (thanks Patterson) and I just got a thought. Is I just me or would Tim drake have the best Kurt Cobain voice?
Like Tim canāt sing at all until nirvana comes on and it just fits his voice. Jason would both love and hate it. Dick would pray for Tim to stop quoting random lyrics at him (it sounds like gibberish until they recognise the song). Damien doesnāt get it. And Bruce is a proud dad.
