What Made Sans So Attractive To Me?

my bf calls me weird for liking a skeleman (lovingly of course), how can I convince him that Sans is indeed very attractive the way he is? LMAO

I want to let you know, I have been wondering myself why I liked this boney boy for 5 MONTHS. Because I literally just- could NOT get it. He is the only character I find attractive, a literal anomaly.

It is more strange that i feel like, he was NEVER intended to be sexy, or manufactured to be a thirst bait, so.. why??

What made Sans so attractive to me?

Yes. His character is genuinely awesomely written ended is big part of the reason. But there is a lot more characters that are also awesomely written, and they're not my crush.

I GUESS to ME, a big part of his charm is that he's what >>society deemed<< as ugly.

it paradoxically made him MORE attractive. Short, 'chubby', acts like hes gross and hes bald.

I have a gut feeling sans DOES think he is ugly (and he is masking it with jokes..), from how Toby writes his fanfic, Sans said 'you have to be ugly for tumblr to like you' which is like.. so not true, tumblr sexymans are filled with tall skinny tuxedo wearing guys. If they are not, THEY WILL BE HUMANISED AND BE PUT IN A SUIT, but Sans? Everyone likes sans as a skeleton. Okay maybe people put him in a suit and make him tall due to the nature of the pixelated abstraction, but he's still a skeleton-

BUT the deal is:

Sans is aware he is ugly, yet, he 'seems' so confident with his appearance.

He doesn't complain about his stature, he just 'seem' to be that kind of guy who is chill and content with himself.

He can't even be bothered to look cool in his boss fight, its just him wearing his jacket and a sweatpants.. which is even more attractive than any armour he would wear ngl jehejdhebe, hes just casually destroying you, like hes was only ever TRYING. After he offered to spare you. As the game mocks you that Sans is supposed to be the easiest boss in the game.

It's almost inspiring?? Like he does not give a shit on whatever people think, he doesn't let other people control his own opinion of himself, instead he MAKES HIMSELF INTO A JOKE. "yep, that's right, i am me, watch'a gonna do bout it?"

He combs his bald head, he scratches his ass IN PUBLIC, He drinks ketchup to MAKE FUN that he has no 'insides'. HIS ROOM IS A LITERAL TRASH TORNADO (I did not get this joke for 7 years.. probably bc english is not my first language.) Then I saw the joke again, and I fucking lost my mind.

He makes me laugh.

Most importantly SANS IS FUN.

SOMETIMES the joke is that he is so confident in himself, he is willing to break the fourth wall and zoom into his fucking face.

He breaks the fourth wall about gaming conventions the most (I'm saying this because Papyrus, Mettaton and Mad Dummy also breaks the fourth wall)

Fun fact: there was 2 sanses in a room, but it looks like he could teleport from your POV. Which okay theres probably only 1 sans in Undertales Universe, but it is hilarious.

The """"shortcut"""" of teleporting in the wrong direction, is a joke on video game cutscenes.

he makes poop and fart jokes and does it the first time meeting you, totally embarassing both you (player) and him, to release the dark tension of the snowdin forest. He makes absolute TERRIBLE puns.

He pranks with one the dogs (that can only see through movements) by "appearing" and "dissapearing" in front of him.

He LIVES for absolute. Pure. Goofiness. And LIVES by the absurdity of his digital life in his game.

He loves to mess with you, and trick you. (We do a little trolling)

It made it feel like, he's very comfortable to be around (in theory). I wouldn't care if I do normal human functions, such as a fart in front of him, because he would go

"heh, good thing i can't breathe" his socket winks at you. Then he fakes himself choking and dying.

He kinda acts like a nice supportive dad, uncle or whoever you want him to be as.

Okay so..

(Speaking of fourth wall breaks.)

He reads back.

One of the special thing about sans is that he is one of those characters who "almost gets it" he almost gets that he is in a video game, Flowey came close too.

Most importantly, He is somewhat aware of the existence of YOU.

He pranks YOU. The time traveler. The anomaly. He is absolutely suspicious of Frisk's behaviours. Because well, you are controlling this child.

He 'implies' whoever killed the underground in Genocide is not Frisk, its someone outside that is causing it. The anomaly. (Though it is not confirmed if he sees frisk and the anomaly as the same in that route.)

He reveals that he had been aware of the anomaly, and he assumed.. that "the anomaly isn't happy." 🥺🥺🥺

Not only that this post where they explain that Sans is the most aware of the underground, even if he never got the sense of deja vu, just on the way he studied your face and how you acted. IS BAD ASS. It's what I have been saying!!

Trustworthy.

He hates making promises, because he will take it seriously.

Sure he is a shit head, and a prankster but he knows when to stop joking around. (He can literally study your damn face..)

Again this goes back to him being 'safe' to be around, you know? He's like a cuddly teddy bear by your side.. ⁄⁠(⁠⁄⁠ ⁠⁄⁠•⁠⁄⁠-⁠⁄⁠•⁠⁄⁠ ⁠⁄⁠)⁠⁄

It feels like it would be really hard to keep secrets away from him, because he could easily observe whatever you did, he could sense your guilt, sadness, joy, by just subtle movements of the muscles you've made. He is a silent and intelligent observer, masked as a comedic side gag.

And if I ever made a white lie, he would also probably shrug it off because it was not important/he doesn't care.

Also, It just feels.. If I ever done the "morally bad thing" he can 'judge' me, I want him to, I want him to steer me to the right direction. Because.. sometimes, doing the 'right thing' is hard, you know?

Don't get me wrong he is not purely good. he probably is lax on his judgement, I mean he still let you pass the judgement hall if you miss a single kill in genocide (all bc he knows you wont fuck up the entire universe), he probably won't care if you steal cookies from Papyrus, because he wants to see the chaos that would ensue.

But that just means, if he's mad at you for doing a bad, oh boy, you know you fucked up real bad... And oughh, just thinking of that makes me want to bow down and beg for forgiveness..

He makes me scared.

Okay. Hear me out.

Classic sans is more scarrier than like a LOT of horror monsters I have consumed in media (silent hill, monika, junji ito manga) , he is way scarrier than horrortale sans.

a part of it is how friendly he is to you, to the point, there is always associate sense of comfort with him, a SAFETY net, then when he says "You'd be dead where you stand." Shivers down my spine (no pun intended).

I felt a loss of power and control of the game.

I was so fucking mad at him for making me feel that way. That he could flip the script like that.

He is your friendly lazy man, that became an authoritive figure.

The more I think about his actions in game, the creepier he gets. Like my man has been watching our hero like a damn stalker, like Alphys. (To be fair he doesn't watch the whole thing, and he uses Frisk's face to see whatever is going on)

And man don't get me started with genocide.

Just the fact that it is implied he had power to 'kill you' or letting you 'be killed' but never did until last minute, and the fact that he would be able to survive our attack, "didja think i would-"

without someone else (assuming Frisk swung the second attack automatically) dealing a second blow to Sans. I still wonder how that would go..

It's why 'controlling' him in a story is so damn addicting to me. He is an 'imaginary toy' I could play with for eternity, and he cannot do anything but to subject to it.

As much as I despise and fear him being the one in control.. paradoxically, I wish he messed with me again, you know? I don't think there hasn't been any sans x readers where he messes with YOU. Too bad, so sad.

There is something nice about losing control too.

Okay but I think his intelligence and him being in control most of the time is my favourite part of him. I love that he uses his brain, I love he can read our face, I love that he absolutely is knowledgable in (in the in games universe) quantum mechanics, to the point it is implied that's how he was able to figure out teleportation.

He's just smart okay?! I love me smart boi.

The irony is strong with this one. See, I probably would not have a crush on him if his genocide fight existed in the first place. And if I didn't have a crush,

I wouldn't have attempted genocide, not because..I want to consume a timeline, no. I want to consume all the contents of him.

The tragedy that you can only see his 'other' self in a battle of death.

This genocide fight alone made me have really complex feelings, these thoughts I cannot explain, and I still cannot explain to this day??

I know it's weird. I have a crush on sans yet I want to hurt him, but I guess it's just the very nature of the concept of immortality (cough, Flowey).

The lack of empathy I have when there is no major consequences to my actions. (planning to reset after I kill sans) Knowing that this is all not real, that nothing would ever be enough.

Sans became a challenge to beat. Instead of a cry for you to stop.

I am just a pathetic wet cat playing the most heart breaking route finding any meaning in this game, as I am fighting another pathetic wet cat who is fighting for some semblance of control, trying hold me back.

Morally grey views, nihilistic, and existentialist outlook. ARRGGHH, it hit me so hard while I was 12/13?! Like the post I linked here. It made me feel so heard. He made me feel heard, but at the cost of another version of 'ME', or just plain out just ME hurting him.

Okay, now I have talked sans at his morally dark parts, and say he is a shit head but... He cares, and a teasing softie, he just does not show it often, and prefer to pull pranks.

- he gives free scraps of food for the dogs under the table.

- he reads car magazines implying he wanted to buy his brother a car, (HE HAS A TINY BIT OF HOPE TO SEE THE SURFACE!! GAR)

- He helps out santa(?) He gives out sexy robot figures to papyrus!

- and ofcourse a promise to an old lady he has never met because he didn't want to see her sad. DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HER NAME.

- keeping that promise and him believing in you, "SOMEONE really cares about YOU" (interpertation but still), him rooting for YOU.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THIS MEANS TO ME?? ;-;

He is so chill that he would be on ride to almost anything you have.. except murdering the whole entire underground :troll_emoji:

And ofcourse.. the addicting nature of his "m y s t e r y"

though, I admit. Papyrus is more mysterious than Sans ಠ⁠_⁠ಠ But Sans got a few mysteries up his non existent arse. Its fun to think about it!!

I can just fill in the blanks for most of his character, his rooms door, has the same smoke is in deltarune teleportation room.

Ofcourse: How the fuck is he the most powerful boss in game? How the fuck did he become your judge of all ppl, why the fuck can he disable invincibility frames?

Where did he come from?

His expression is a pure blank face.

He can be anything.

I think the fact that theres so many AU's of him contributed to this but.. think about it.

My explanation is almost contradicting, he's trustworthy but he doesn't trust you, he's kind but he's scary, he's lazy but powerful(?), he hates you but he cares about you.

he's so morally grey you can literally do a LOT of shit with him, and it doesn't feel 'too out of character', and I can some-what justify some decissions he have made, if I simply gave an explanation of his thought process or how it got to that point.

He can be a childhood sweetheart, a 'bad boy', a y_ndere, a shy little guy, a lazy mofo, depressed little shit, or somewhat who is into absurdism that pranks you across space and time. Anything.

So. That is my explanation on why I find sans sexy, thankyou for coming to my ted talk. Lemme know if this speaks out to you.

Well, I've been dealing with a lot of things and... beaurocracy.

Let's say that the fascist-- I mean-- totally not-a-fascist-right-wing party from the US made the situation worse. Me and a friend of mine was denied to extend our stay in this country, because they have too many refugees coming in and we have to leave. (Luckily my friend got another job in another country, however.. I was not so lucky)

If anyone is willing to support my art and labor it will help a lot with this!!

hiya! i'm attempting to start a comic.. thingy from a series of doodles i did in my sketchbook. I wanted to ask for some advice. More specifically; how do you decide how you want the comic panels to be layed out without initially drawing the scenes themselves? I've made comics before but admittedly the layout was never any good compared to what i've seen others do

I’ve been asked how I make my comics for a while now, and while I still think I need a lot more experience before I really know what I’m doi

I've answered this question a lot so here's my guide that shows a lot of my process. I don't do thumbnails like a lot of people suggest, because they don't work for me. Instead, I read my script and try and visualize the entirety of the page. Page comics usually use one page to represent a whole idea. I try and fit 4-6 panels per page and split my script into blocks of ideas that fit into something like that. Ask yourself, what is this page getting at? Is it introducing a new scene? How do I use imagery to set mood in this new scene? Are the characters talking about a specific point, is a new plot idea being revealed? How much drama should be on the page for these ideas?

Sketch out your images on a different layer than the panels so that you can easily move them around. Sometimes I quickly add some circles for where the heads and bodies will be. This way I can see if the layout is working from panel to panel, particularly for difficult to draw scenes so I don't have to put effort into something that isn't working. I often move the panels around or redraw them after reading through the pages. Expect to do that and throw out hours of work. Also work in your text bubbles and make sure not to draw so big there isn't room for text. Text is part of the page and should lead the viewers eyes through the panels and drawings as you read them. Use it as a tool.

Do not get too wordy with text. Break it up into more panels if it is getting long. Nobody want's to read a word wall. Nobody! Make sure your panels naturally read in order. If the reader gets confused about panel order, it will bring them out of the story. Use strong angles for drama, and flat easy to read angles for jokes. Paneling is something you have to try out for a while to really get the hang of it. I'd suggest reading manga that you like and really combing through the pages to see how they do things. Read to learn, not for fun, and break down those pages. If you liked an action scene, ask how they posed the characters in the panels to create the action? If it's just characters talking, but you feel enthralled, ask yourself how they used the panels to make it interesting. And jokes! Those are so much harder than you think. I always suggest learning how to write and compose your own jokes. So many artists are just out there blandly copying meme formats they've found floating around. That doesn't teach you anything. It's just copying. Learn how to write your own jokes and use panel timing to get that punchline out. When you read them, ask yourself why they are working? What panels they are using, and are they effective?

That's about all I got. I still feel like I have a lot to learn about panels, but hopefully that will give you some ideas.

Wow that's deep... and I agree with you... I guess that's why people create so many AUs... So they can create their own version of the story and keep the fun in their own way...

I'm always afraid of what D.eltarune would change or add the canon of everything in UT.

Even if my theory turned out to be canon, (sans is from Deltarune) I would still feel dissapointed.

We fear the unknown, but we are enticed to it. I prefer his story to be consisted of multiple choices.

Because, when it's all revealed. Well.. that's it. No more discussions, no more arguing. You can't imagine anything else other than the truth. (Well you can, but you'd have to really block canon out in your head)

There's a character in Bojack Horseman a cartoon series, named Diane.

She always dreamed about a belle styled library in her house. It's a place in her mind that kept her in peace.

One day her husband (now eggs husband), decided to give her a giant library as a big surprise, and she became upset.

"Why would you do this? It's too much. I didn't want it like this"

"Like, what?"

"I don't know-- I'm sorry this is great- I'm sorry-- Why would you think I would like this?"

"You've told me that this was what you always dreamed of?"

"This was my fantasy, something that belonged to me."

I never truly relate to her. I can somewhat understand that it was frustrating, especially when she told her husband that she hated big gestures.

Until, I got older.

You know FNAF? Five nights at freddys? You probably never heard of it. It was a small indie game made by Scott Cawthon.

Since 12 years old, I've always wanted to know all the secrets of Five nights at Freddys. I wanted to know what had happened to the children. I always thought whatever is going on in Scott's head, must be more entertaining than mine.. right?

There is now 5+ games and a lot of books that covered the story of FNAF.

The story became convoluted, and at this point the whole game is just a puzzle for theorist, instead of a horror game. (That's where the fun is at anyways)

I always thought it was probably the writing. That it was awful and lack any consistent narrative, and well.. it kinda is- but even then..

I just like how simple, and to the point it was, back in the day.

I became aware.. the most fun I ever had with the FNAF story.. was just, theory craft, it was me filling in the gaps, of whatever Scott Cawthon made.

It's the same with Undertale, wondering if Sans is truly Ness, what he was like outside the interractions with Frisk, what Papyrus backstory even was. I just.. wanted to know more, I want to consume more.

....

A mistake I made is that I held Scott to such a high standard. I mean, (I guess it was because I was 12 years old and don't know any better, and he's an adult.)

If he had made such a masterpiece as fnaf 1, then he's definitely a genius, right?

Bottom line, it was all a projection from the very beginning. He, and Toby Fox was just 'myself' in a way. (I'll get to that in a bit.)

In my opinion it's a mistake to think other people that they are 'geniuses'. Maybe they're clever, sure. But 'genius', would meant that they know something 'more', and well- that is technically true for 12 year old me, (because what do children know?) Now that I'm older, I guess I realised all of us are not so.. different. They just have more experience than I do.

While you can praise an artist for their work, their art is still human, still flawed. No matter how polished it was, the extra care and attention to it, there is going to be spots they've missed. I mean Toby apparently wanted to add Undyne breaking her armor when she fell off to save MK, but he just.. forgot. He can't just update the game with it, when tons of people had already seen it.

And as much as UT was a masterpiece, there's going to be people who thinks undertale sucks, because, well.. both parties are human.

So back onto the topic of theory crafting.

I wanted more of FNAF. I want to consume more. More more more. Until I realised. It was better off left alone. Maybe at fnaf 2.

After my experience of FNAF, the simple fact that it was.. well simple, had my imagination create much more scarier things than anyone could come up with.

I realise the "fear of the unknown" can also be manipulated to be "the enticing mystery of the unknown".

The reason why its so fun, is because well.. there is no answer to it.

Because the answer can be personalised.

...

I realised, I never actually really wanted to know more of the story. I never wanted for my theory to be canon.

No. What I really wanted was.. someone to validate what I had thought.

I wanted to 'know' the creator. So it felt like I "get them" that I "understood" their work, that I am interpertint them in the right way. Oh how close I am to the canon.

Because for some reason, it "validated" my thoughts.

Admitting this had meant, I have a parasocial relationship with creators.

I guess everyone does.

Can you know a person by what they create?

In a way, every work of art is somewhat parasocial, since it is a one way conversation, sure, it's still conversation, you are technically hearing what they had to say, but you could never reply back, instead, you can only discuss with people who have experienced it. While the author moved on.

Whatever games they have made. Is just an echo of the creators voice. Unfortunately, their voice can get distorted, misinterpret or polished by themselves.

(I told you I'm going to get back to this.) What we see in these games is sort of them, but a distorted version that we create in our minds. If the creator had touch my souls with their work.. they must be like me, right?

I mean take a look at you, for example, yes you.

What do you know about me? I mean I could be lying about my own story to fit my narrative. I could be faking my voice. You would never know. You can never check. Are you sure I am really 'me'?

The simple answer is: you can't know anyone. It's a lonely thought. But, it's true. What you see right now. Is only an interpertation of me.

That interpertation is coming from you.

This topic is covered in such great detail by the beginners guide the game, Trust me this game really broke me. Every time I try to tell what this game is about. It felt like I didn't actually the message of this game. It's just so- paradoxical...

"can you really know a person from their creation?" That's what the game is trying to answer.

And the answer that I interpret from them is.. You can't. Because there is a barrier.

But its not all parasocial, is it? You get something out of it after all.

They are still talking to you in a linear script.

You get the experience. You get to feel something they want you to feel. You get a community, or maybe you don't feel alone in that moment.

Maybe thats whats more important in art. Just the experience itself..

As a creator.. everytime I comment on something on what I made, it feels super weird.

Because.. Whatever you all have imagined is much more entertaining, and scarier FOR YOU, and specifically for YOU. I've seen messages of your theories and it was amazing. I can't tell if its true or canon or not canon, but it's amazing, because I had made you feel something. I made you take action to type those words on how you felt. You poured your heart out to me. You commented on what you had felt. Its just, very very interesting.

I don't want you to "get" me. I don't want you to "understand". (It does feel validating when you try to or do.) But that's not the point of art.

I want you to have a personal experience.

It's just like whatever I come up on the spot will end up more entertaining, scary, heartbreaking in that moment. Sometimes I also like when fic became discontinued, because I can write my own ending in my head.

Not because Toby, you, others, and I are not capable of something amazing.

It was just the fact it was personalised.

Art is breakable.

My story is not "my" story anymore when its out there. It's everyone elses.

Though, I am ready to accept that Toby would have a canon backstory for Sans.

Deep down I know.. I know it would end all the theories. It would end all the fun. It would mean I have to re-think of everything in the series.

I can't just- remove canon out of my head. If i were selfish, (forgive me) I'd probably only give clues but.. just enough that it is considered canon, but also not enough that it isn't.

But, everything has an END. It's a part of change. So.. I'll accept whatever is going to happen. I just prefer it to have multiple choices.
