i have chronic sleep deprivation from insomnia and i tend to have a lot of nightmares and since my last spells have worked, i gave this my energy next
ingredients:
bay leaf - protection, physic powers, wish fullfillment
lemonbalm - divination, promote sleep, relieve stress and anxiety
mugwort - promote sleep and physic powers
nettle - grounding, banishing negativity, cleansing
snail shells - peace, protection, meditation
smokey and clear quarts - increase spell potential, awarness, subconsious, dreamwork
sigil for sleeping well
the piece of quartz i had was actually collected by me and has both clear and smokey parts in it, we have a lot of quarts next to my grandparents' cottage and there's wariety of clear, rose, smokey and milk/white quartz ✨
Your personal power is crucial to your magical practice
Did the spell not work or were you focused on what you would be having for dinner later?
It doesn't matter how many herbs or crystals or candles or oils you use. If you can't focus your personal energy on your spell, your herbs on candles then all that work was for nothing.
Magical tools have power on their own but its your energy and focus that gives them a focus as well as a boost.
Some tips
Visualise what you want as if you already have it
If you have difficulty creating mental pictures, you can imagine the words that would be said when you get what you want. Example: "Im so happy i got the job" or "I feel so much love and admiration for myself"
Simply focusing on your goal while doing the work is enough

This is probably the witch advice you didn’t ask for, but I’ve found it’s much easier to remember to do general periodic maintenance that’s otherwise easily forgotten or put off when tied to milestones such as solstices, equinox, new, or full moons.
For example: Stow your winter blankets or clothes on the Vernal Equinox and take them out again on the Autumnal Equinox. Replace your air and water filters on solstices and equinoxes (every 90 days). Begin new 30-day challenges or do reset/cleaning of your living space on the new moon (every month).
Living cyclically breaks life down into manageable little blocks of time and helps us live in the moment by paying attention to the ebb and flow of the Earth.

Whenever I feel in a witchy rut, like I don’t know what to do next, or simply stalled in my practice, I go back and re-read the Witches Sequence of the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett.
Nothing will teach you more about witchcraft than Granny Weatherwax.
You really don't need all the fancy bullshit every tumblr influencer will ever tell you to use. Here's my countdown ofaxtually useful shit.
A pocket knife, preferably with a wood handle. Use that bitch for everything, enchant it, carve symbols in it. It will absolutely be your best friend.
A good bag or backpack with a couple of plastic or ziploc bags in it. If you ever run off into the woods to find minerals, bones, plants, etc. A set aside bag and some things to store your treasures in becomes a necessity.
Basic divinatory sets. You don't have to buy fancy shit, learn to divine with playing cards and dice, or learn geomancy, lithomancy, or rune casting with homemade sets. A tarot deck is nice, but it isn't necessary when you've got so many other divinatory aids available.
A nice sized chunk of scrap cloth. When you process dried plants or sort new ones, that shit can and will get everywhere. A scrap piece of muslin or linen can help contain all of that mess and make clean up way easier.
A stash of good rocks. Draw sigils or symbols on those babies and leave them in the garden, the windowsill, property boundaries, under the stoop, etc. You can never have too many good rocks.
A pendulum, for fucks sake. The cards are going to be vague as hell when you're trying to figure out yes or no questions, and using a candle to communicate with spirits is really fucking hard outside. If you can't afford one, find a nice chunk of pointy quartz and learn to macrame.
A workspace. Everyone talks about having big fancy altars, but no one mentions that you need a good surface to do all your work on.
Storage, so much storage. I'm not talking about mason jars and pill bottles, I'm talking about where you put all the things you put in those jars. Having a workspace with drawers is immeasurably helpful.
A broom and water source. You're going to be cleaning up after yourself a lot, it's helpful to have a jug of water and a broom that stays by your workspace.
A mode of cleansing. I make a salt concoction to scatter around my workspace on short notice and store it close by.
On that note: SOMETHING TO CANCEL SPELLS WITH. Eventually, something will go wrong. You'll want to end that spell immediately. Have something to do it with.
A strainer. If you don't have a blender, rub dried plants across it to get a powder. If you do have a blender, you can strain that powder with it. Either way, if you intend to powder shit, get a strainer.
Small trays. It makes drying flowers so much easier if you have a small metal surface to contain them with- then just stick those suckers in a southern window and let em go.
Yarn/string scraps. Having a box or drawer of scraps makes trying this up to dry easier and a bit less wasteful.
A stash of offerings for whatever you work with. Honey for fae, coins for graveyard gatekeepers, alcohol for ancestors, etc.
Protective talismans or charms. Once you're into all of this stuff, you'll likely stick your nose in something you shouldn't. Having basic protection with you or in your workspace is incredibly important. A key and hagstone with red string is simple and effective.
A lighter- so many people forget the most basic shit. You're going to want to light shit on fire if you're a witch.
And a last tip- if something is too hard for a mortar and pestle, a plastic bag and hammer works too.
Everybody has ancestors. EVERYBODY. Ancestral worship is for everyone no matter the religion or spiritual path. Those within the African diaspora are dealing with the generational trauma due to oppression and the symptoms of oppression. Those of European descent also have the generational trauma of being lied to, and a loss of cultural identity in order to blindly support a system that continues to oppress others. Healing said generational trauma will involve an alchemical process of healing the guilt, shame and embarrassment from what the ancestors have done so an ally can be born and that history does not repeat.
This one Caucasian girl told me that she began to work with her ancestors and she said that she could tell that some were still deeply racist in the spirit world, and others had learned to do better. She asked me, what can be done when she’s just trying to honor her “good” ancestors and be better. There’s certain rituals that one can do to block yourself from ancestors that don’t wish you well or that you don’t find useful. They don’t have to be elaborate. The key is that you have that right, and you have that power to define who has access to you.
Quick spell from my grandma that was passed onto her from her mum and however many generations…
Lost something?
Stick a pin in your sofa and it’ll return to you.
Why does this shit work? No clue, fam. But mum and grandma swear by it and I’ll be damned if it didn’t work for me today
Deities of the crossroads and beings that dwell in liminal spaces truly favour the bold. Remember that the next time you hesitate.
I'm not sure who needs to hear this at the moment but if you have any kind of animistic slant to your practice and enjoy plants you absolutely should be reading Daniel Schulke's Viridarium Umbris. PDFs are extraordinarily easy to find, the information and tech is phenomenal, and it is easy to pick and find what you want to work on at any given time. I started getting my teeth into it for the first time last year and I'm only sorry I hadn't picked it up sooner. It should be required reading.
These are for my daughter’s birthday party this weekend, but I thought I would go ahead and share this because it’s seriously so easy and I can see there being a lot of uses in the witchcraft community. These are heart shaped sugar cubes and they are seriously easy to make. I have roughly fifty-nine of them too. I went with white because I had no red food coloring in the pantry (the theme is soft pastels), but it’s also really easy to color these to suit your needs.
You can literally really make cute enchanted sugar cubes and I like this method because it feels very ritualistic - like it has the potential to be magical if you make it magical.
I pressed birthday wishes into these - that this year will be fun and kind and that she’ll learn the lessons that she’s meant to learn.
The recipe is as follows:
2 cups granulated sugar
food coloring, if desired - you can use wet or dry food coloring
4 teaspoons water
Mix sugar and food coloring until sugar reaches desired color. Add in four teaspoons of water to mixture and combine until the mixture reaches a sandy consistency. If you add too much water, it won’t hold its shape so be careful.
Turn sugar mixture into a flat surface. I used a glass pie pan. Use the bottom of a cup to compress the sugar into a solid layer. Use a small cookie cutter to cut out the desired shape and carefully place on a baking sheet.
If you want to let them dry out for a couple days, you can. However, I rather prefer this way: preheat the oven to 200 F and bake sugar cubes for 10 minutes. Take out of the oven and let cool completely.
I pressed my intentions into the sugar when I pressed the sugar mixture down into a solid layer. There’s a lot of ways you can customize this into a spell, however - the color of the sugar, the shape you choose to make, the intentions you put into the sugar itself. The possibilities, as they say, are endless!

Happy summer solstice! Here’s a recipe to honour the day:
(Makes about 30 cupcakes or 2 big cakes)
Ingredients:
Cake:
450g plain flour
225g butter
4 tbsp honey
150g sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
4 eggs
250 ml milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Icing:
150g icing sugar
20 ml water
1 tsp cinnamon
As much honey as you want
Lavender (optional)
1. Lay out cake cases or grease your tray if you are making one big cake and preheat your oven to 180C/350F
2. Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt together
3. Add the eggs, honey, butter, milk and vanilla extract and mix until smooth
4. Put the mixture into whatever you are baking it in
5. Bake for 20mins (cupcakes) or 40mins (big cake)
6. Whilst cakes are baking prepare your icing. Mix together the icing sugar, water, cinnamon and honey until smooth. Add more water if you need to.
7. Once the cakes are done, take them out and leave to cool
8. When the cakes are cool, drizzle the icing onto them. Add lavender if you wish
9. Eat!
Riot magic tip: Coyote bones and coyote powder are the shit for rioters. Get some coyote teeth or claws, maybe powder that stuff, or buy some of the coyote spirit powder from a local botanica and give it to your rioter friends or use yourself if going to riots. The stuff usually wards off the law, makes you unconquerable, and allows you to slip past others. The typical trickster attributes you want.

The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year, the night is shortest and it is the inverse of the cold, dark days of the winter solstice. If the winter solstice is a time for reflection and gathering in the safe warmth of one’s home, then the summer solstice is a time of outdoor celebration to honor the light, the warmth, the green, and all things that are vibrant and alive. You’ve spent the winter months planning, you’ve planted seeds of growth in spring, now at the height of the sun it is the time for action and for celebrating your activeness before you are able to reap the benefits come the autumn harvest. From this day forward the darkness will return slowly and the days will shorten once more and what you prepare in the light of summer will be what you enjoy in the darker months. Use this time to celebrate and to enjoy the process of working towards your goals, uncomfortable though it may be at times. Take pleasure in the living world around you and in those around you whom you care for. Happy Midsummer!

Hello my greenies! Happy Litha! I hope you’re all enjoying the summer sun and nature. Even during quarantine, if you’re able to take a walk in nature without contact with others, I highly recommend doing so. If you’re unable to go outside, I recommend taking the time to bake and maybe listen to some nature sounds on youtube. Those have helped me during these times. I wish you all the best with this yummy cake! I hope you all like this recipe:)
Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour
½ cup softened unsalted butter
2 eggs
1 ½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ cup granulated sugar
½ cup milk
½ tsp salt
¼ cup brown sugar
2 tbsp fresh orange juice
2/3 cup honey
1 tbsp vanilla extract
around a tbsp of orange zest
Optional Glaze
½ cup honey
¼ cup brown sugar
some lemon juice
juice of 4th of orange
couple pats of ground cinnamon
dash of vanilla
½ cup (maybe.. I never measure this out)sliced almonds
Mix until syrup state.
Directions
Preheat Oven for 350°F and coat pan with non-stick or other alternative. I honestly don’t know what size my pan is…so I’d say eyeball it and see how much you can fit? Lol
In medium bowl, mix dry ingredients (including the orange zest). Set that to the side while you mix the other ingredients in a larger bowl.
Sift the dry ingredients into the bowl with the other ingredients in batches. So, sift a little in and mix then repeat that until all the dry ingredients are mixed in.
Pour the mixture into the pan and cook for about 28 to 35 minutes. Check with a long toothpick:3 After you take out you can pour over an optional syrup that I think is amazing!
There’s no particular chant I do for this recipe, I mostly just pray for the sun and for the health of those I care for. I like to visualize the sun and its heat and color wrapping me in an embrace and that same warmth infusing the cake.
I hope you call have a lovely Litha and special time with those you love a care for.

Add the remaining ingredients, except the vegan yogurt, and process for 2-3 minutes or until smooth. Add the vegan yogurt and process well to combine. Taste and add additional salt, hot sauce, or lime juice, to taste. Transfer the mixture to a glass bowl, cover, and chill for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend. Serve as an appetizer with raw vegetables, bread slices, crackers, or chips, or use as a condiment on sandwiches, cooked vegetables, or grains. Yield: 2 Cups

Litha is here! It’s the Summer solstice, the longest day and the shortest night. The night is lit with huge bonfires and people are dancing until the dusk, can you hear the drums already? Solstices are a time for celebrations of what we have achieved so far and a reflection of the mistakes we have made and what we have learned.
I don’t know if you are still in lockdown, but here in Scotland we can move around a bit. I don’t know what you have planned for this special day, but I think I’ll just enjoy the sun outside in a park and take a long stroll in my city. There is nothing much I can do in these weird time anyway. I am a huge foodie, so my way of celebrating is more on the kitchen side. I have created the perfect recipe for you! These Madeleines are a treat! They are perfumed with Thyme, lemon and lavender, those herbs correspond to Litha, plus they have strong magical purification properties. Eating those on Litha and you will be cleanse of bad stagnant energies and ready for the second part of the year!
A handful of fresh thyme (plus some for decoration)
1 to 2 tsp dried Lavender (to your taste)
zest of 1 Lemon
3 eggs
120g unrefined cane sugar
125g room temperature butter
150g self-raising flour
Prep the Thyme. Wash and dry you thyme. Leave out hard stems and pick the leaves. Mince them in small bits
Prep the Lavender. Grind Lavender in a robot or using a pestle and mortar.
Prep the dough. Beat 3 eggs with the sugar with a whisk until light and foamy
Add the butter then the flour. Mix quickly.
Add the rest of the ingredients: thyme, lavender and the lemon zest.
Mix quickly again. Leave it in the fridge to rest for an hour
Pre-heat the oven 180°C / 360°F
Rub the madeleine molds with butter. If you don’t have madeleine molds, any cupcakes or muffins molds will do too.
Pour the dough in the moulds.
Bake in warm oven 8 to 10 min 180°C / 360°F. They are ready when slightly brown on the edges.
They are the best eaten straight away from the oven. You can keep them a couple of days in an air tight container.
If you don’t have any cane sugar, regular sugar is fine.
They pairs really well with an Earl Grey tea.
A comfort-food classic with magical properties of healing, protection, prosperity, and love.
Special equipment: immersion blender
Ingredients
1 double crust pie dough
½ cup chopped scallions (measure green parts only; any white parts may be added to pie filling)
4 cups water
1 large onion, roughly chopped
4 whole garlic cloves
2 celery stalks, roughly chopped
2 large carrots, roughly chopped
2 chicken thighs
1 bay leaf
1 tsp dried thyme
salt & pepper to taste
¼ cup butter
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 cup dried wild mushrooms (can substitute fresh; just sautee the fresh mushrooms ahead of time to remove excess liquid)
1 cup frozen peas (do not thaw)
1 egg, beaten
Maldon flake salt (optional)
Methods
Boil chicken thighs with water, onion, garlic, carrots, celery, bay leaf, thyme, and salt & pepper. Once chicken is cooked through, remove from broth. Discard bay leaf. Use an immersion blender to puree the vegetables with the broth until smooth. Set aside.
Make pastry according to recipe of your choice, but before adding the water, stir in the scallions. Chill pastry.
Rehydrate mushrooms according to package directions. Reserve the water. Roughly chop the mushrooms if necessary. Shred the chicken (or cut into bite-size chunks).
Make a roux: melt butter in saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture becomes foamy and turns a light golden color. Add 4 cups of the vegetable broth puree and whisk constantly. If necessary, use the mushroom broth to thin out the gravy. Bring to a boil. Boil one minute while whisking; remove from heat. Allow the gravy to cool.
Heat oven to 400°. Roll out pastry and line a pie plate. Mix together chicken, mushrooms, white parts of scallions, and frozen peas. Add enough gravy to reach desired consistency (3-4 cups). Pour mixture into pie shell. Apply top crust. Brush top pastry with beaten egg, and if desired, finish with a light sprinkling of flaky salt such as Maldon.
Bake at 400° for twenty minutes, then cover the edges of the pie with aluminum foil or a pie collar to prevent excessive browning. Bake an additional 25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the gravy bubbles (total bake time about 45 minutes). Allow the pie to rest at least twenty minutes before serving.
Serves 6-8.
Bay: healing, banishing, success, wishes
Thyme: courage, protection, prosperity
Garlic: love, purification, warding
Scallions: fertility, healing, exorcism
We had a stormy day last week. The weather was gloomy and it was really windy. I decided to bake a Brioche. Bread making is such a great activity to slow down, and brioche are such a decadent treat.
Making brioche was really hard for me the first couple of times, and I wish I watched videos on how to make it.
Brioche makes wonderful food for any celebrations of the pagan year! You can adapt the recipe to your need and add the flavours and herbs. They are perfect for you feasts are they are the embodiment of the little luxuries, the little extra we enjoy on a celebration day! At the end, I give you some ideas to adapt the recipe to each of the sabbats!
Prep time: 40 min
Rest time: 1h30
Proving time in the fridge: a whole night
Cooking time: 25 to 30 min
Material needed:
A standing mixer with a hook or a hand mixer with hooks. If you don’t have any of those, you can mix by hand but it is going to get really messy and it is much longer.
Ingredients
2tsp dry yeast
4tbsp milk
1tbsp suger
250g plain flour
30g sugar
125g butter at room temperature
3+1 eggs at room temperature
1tbsp Cointreau or Rhum
Recipe
Activate the yeast by mixing 2 tsp of dry yeast with 4tbsp of luke warm milk and a tbsp of sugar. Mix well and let it rest for at least 15min. The yeast is activated when there is a fluffy foam on the top of the milk.
In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt and butter together until crumbly.
In a small bowl beat 3 eggs with a tbsp of Cointreau or Rhum.
Add the beaten eggs and the yeast to the crumbly dough.
Start mixing with the robot for at least 5 min. The dough is ready when it is smooth, silky and sticky (don’t worry about that)
First proving:
Cover the bowl with cling film and let the dough rest in a warm place. Near a radiator is really good or in the oven at minimal heat (no more than 30°C / 86°F). Let it rise for about 1h30 or when the volume has doubled. If there is a wind draft, the dough will never rise.
Second proving:
Once the first rising is done, punch the dough to remove the gaz accumulated. At this point the dough is really sticky and that’s normal, don’t be tempted to add more flour. Cover the bowl again and let it rest a full night in the fridge. The dough will rise a bit again.
The day after:
Pre heat the oven at 180°C/350°F
Sprinkle flour on your worktop and start rolling the dough in a large cylinder. Cut it in 3 equal parts.
Roll each part in a long sausage, then braid them together.
Beat one egg and spread it on the braided brioche with a brush. It will make the crust gold and shiny
Bake 25 to 30min at 180°C/350°F
A few important tips:
This dough has a lot of butter that make is very sticky. That’s why the nigh in the fridge is very important. It makes the dough hard enough to be manipulated. Try to work quickly so the dough stays cold.
If you don’t have room temperature butter, shred the butter with a cheese grater it will do just fine.
No alcohol? No problem! Try to perfume the brioche with vanilla or orange zest!
Sabbaths celebrations ideas:
Mabon - 20th-22nd September - Add some sliced apples to the dough before the first proving time
Samhain - 31st October - Add a tsp of pumpkin spices to the flour.
Yule - 20th-22nd December - Add orange zest and orange juice to the mix instead of the Cointreau
Imbolc - 1st February - Don’t change the recipe it is perfect for this celebration day!
Ostara - 20th-22nd March - CHOCOLATE! Add chocolate chips to the batter before mixing everything together
Beltane - 1st May - Use 30g of honey instead of sugar
Litha - 20th-22nd June - Again, you can use honey and also add oranges. Maybe brush a bit of orange marmalade when it is straight out of the oven
Lughnasadh - 31st July - Add Strawberries / Raspberries / Blueberries to the mix before the first proving time
Homemade pasta is my latest cooking obsession.
From intentionally choosing herbs and veggies to color the dough and get that double whammy of herb and color magick, to mindfully rolling out and cutting/filling/shaping the perfect little pasta pieces- this is basically peak kitchen witchery for me right here. I set aside a couple hours so I can really take my time, pop on some mood music, and lose myself in the happy little rhythm^^
The base recipe I use is;
1 egg + 2 yolks
A few tablespoons of herbs or veggies for color. Could be a bit more or less depending on what I'm using. (For example- it need lots of fresh green herbs to get it green, but barely any beets for a deep pink)
~1 cup flour (more if the dough is too wet/sticky) + extra for dusting countertops
Water (enough to help the dough form a nice ball)
Today I tried out something new- pressing leaves in between the sheets of dough, and rolling it out thin enough that you can clearly see them in the finished pasta.
And thus, Sunny's Lucky Greenie Fettuccine was born!
The color doesn't really come through in these photos, but it is a lovely vibrant green created by using fresh Basil in the dough- and the leaves pressed inside are parsley!
Next time I'll probably do wider strands, or some kind of stuffed pasta, so the shapes of the leaves stay wholly intact. But for a first attempt at this technique I'm pretty pleased! Plus it was damn delicious^^
In the (hopefully near) future I want to experiment with some other herbs and work a few edible flowers into the mix!!! I've seen some genuinely stunning pasta pictures I am dying to try my hand at recreating^^
Witchy Lavender Milk Tea
Ingredients:
1/4 Teaspoon Lavender
Freshly Boiled Water
1/2 Cup milk of your choice (cow milk, goat milk, almond milk, whatever)
1/4 Teaspoon vanilla extract
Honey (If you don't have raw honey, purified will be fine)
Instructions:
Pour your boiled water into a mug, leaving plenty of room.
Put the lavender into a tea strainer or tea bag, or leave it loose. Place it in the mug. While this is steeping, pour the half cup of milk into a saucepan/milk steamer/whatever.
Warm it on medium heat until it starts steaming, stirring constantly. While you stir, sing a lullaby of your choice (or use a sleep chant; whichever you prefer). I sing "Lullabye" by Fall Out Boy or "A Twist In My Story" by Secondhand Serenade.
Once your milk is steamed, add the vanilla to it. Remove the lavender from the tea and stir in as much honey as you want. Keep in mind that lavender is very bitter, so you will need at least a tablespoon.
Finally, add the milk. Stir it in and enjoy!
i'm eclectic but today i wanted to do some kitchen witchcraft which i actually do pretty often so here's the recipe for the smoothie i made and what the ingredients mean
frozen strawberries- love, good luck
apple- love, good luck
orange juice- good luck, sweetness, positive energies, love
coconut water- protection, strengthens the influences of the other ingredients
almond milk- good luck, positivity, beauty, love
honey- sweetness, positivity, luck
ice- water element
i make smoothies often as a snack and i love how they taste so i wanted to make one that would bring good things to my life, remember to stir clockwise to attract things such as good luck in this case, the potency of your product can be enhanced by actually saying a spell or doing other things that you want to do like lighting candles or drawing sigils on it
i had a lot of fun and i'll be making more things soon, let me know if there's any recipes for certain things that anyone wants! blessed be :)
