[Group Chat: Batfam Surveillance]
Red Robin: There's a new meta in Gotham. Looks like a ghost.
Nightwing: A ghost? Are we talking actual ghost or just someone who really needs to hydrate?
Red Robin: Actual ghost. He's glowing. I'm running scans now.
Batman: Keep him under observation. Gotham doesn't need more problems.
Robin: I can handle him. He's probably just another foolish vigilante.
Signal: He's flying. I just saw him phase through a building. Pretty sure he's not a "foolish vigilante."
Oracle: I'm pulling satellite footage… okay, weird. He's fighting something. A… green blob?
Red Hood: Blob? Like Clayface's cousin?
Red Robin: Nope. That's ectoplasm. 100% ghost confirmed.
[Danny Phantom has joined the chat]
Danny: Uh, hi? Could you not stalk me? I'm just here for the blob.
Red Robin: … How did you get in this chat?
Danny: Hacker friend. Don't worry, I'll leave. Nice to meet you guys! Also, tell your caped guy to stop brooding on the rooftops; it's creepy.
Batman: …
[Danny Phantom has left the chat]
Red Hood: I like him.
So a person requested (in messages) me to write a drabble thing based on this prompt. I’m not really into de-aged characters, but I thought of a way to focus it more on Jason’s reaction rather than the childcare part and felt cool with writing that.
So, uh, hope you like this I guess, @phantomrosereader…
Alright. Alright. Alright alright alrigh—
Nope. They’re still there. Fuck. Jason is not at all prepared to be a father. Nor does he want to show back up at the manor right now carrying two children and be forced to explain all this.
Wait, how did the kids even get there? Who was the mother? Why did they never contact him before?
…Did they contact him before? Can he really be certain he’s not missing any more memories?
He forcefully shook his head. No. No focusing on that right now. He’s fine. No spiraling allowed. He has to deal with this first.
Seriously, fuck. How is he a dad?
He… he should look into the mother. At least then he’d have more to go off of when he talks to Alfred. The note did give a name, but it wasn’t nearly enough to go off of on its own. Danny is hardly an uncommon name. Although, it does seem like a guy’s name—maybe Danny is trans? That would narrow the search down, but would that be enough? Even if he could get it down to just a handful of options, he had no way to determine which Danny was his. The kids seemed to have mostly inherited his own appearance…
Wait, that’s it! Genetic tests!
Despite his strained relationship with the other Bats, he still has access to their resources. A test wouldn’t take too long to give results. And also, it might reveal some other info like allergies he’d need to know.
***
Jason frowned at his laptop as his eyes flitted across the details of the error message. Apparently, some parts of the kids’ genes had been completely unreadable to the scanner and thus it couldn’t form a full profile.
Sighing, he clicked the popup closed. He could at least look at what results had come through. Maybe they’d be enough.
That hope dwindled as he scanned the full data, the corruption looking more dire than he expected. Even if the legible parts did succeed at painting a picture of the kids being related, the swaths of gibberish made meaningfully searching for the mother likely hopeless. However, there did seem to be a pattern to the broke areas. Something tickled at the back of his mind. He felt like he’d seen this before. Could that mean the mother was a meta or alien? Those were on a separate database, so that might resolve the issue. But that would require him to go to the manor, and he was still very hesitant to do that.
So instead, he pulled up his own test results to compare. Maybe they’d let him figure something ou—
He froze.
That’s why he recognized the corruption. Ever since his revival, his own genetic results exhibited almost the exact same pattern of issues.
Oh Hell, did the kids inherit the side effects of the Pit from him?
He looked over at the kids, sleeping peacefully in their seats, and prayed that they hadn’t. He didn’t think he’d be able to forgive himself if they had to suffer through the Pit Rage their whole lives just because of him.
He… he had to go to the manor. There was no pushing this off any longer. This situation was far too big for him to deal with on his own. He couldn’t risk leaving his kids to suffer alone.
Hopefully Alfred with his parenting skills and Damian with his knowledge of the Lazarus Pits (and similar experience of being descended from a user of them) would be able to help. Or if that failed, maybe he could guilt trip Bruce into getting the Justice League Dark to help.
The Observants keep saying that, per the "rules", Superman has to stay there unless he can find a way to break out on his own.
The problem is that Danny doesn't think he's gonna do that, because Superman found a boy that he apparently adopted at some point during a previous breakout attempt and isn't gonna let that kid go any time soon. And the kid is bound to the Ghost Zone.
Clockwork isn't saying anything, just looking at Danny expectantly.
Danny...
Danny has a crazy idea.
"I'm formally adopting Superman. I'm Superman's dad now, and that kid's grandpa."
"...You do not even know 'that kids' name."
"Irrelevant, my main objective here is adopting Superman. If that kid is his kid then I guess he's in for the ride too."
"To what point and purpose is this circus act, Phantom?" One of the Observants asks, sounding tired.
"I have permission to leave whenever I want, cuz I'm a denizen. If Superman is my son, and by extension that other kid is my grandson, then they have the same rights. Cuz they're denizens now."
The 'suck my dick' part of that explanation was greatly implied, and by the glares being sent his way the Observants had sensed the implication.
"You cannot adopt someone in the Infinite Realms without a higher being blessing the..."
"I approve."
Everyone turned to stare at Clockwork, who just sat there.
Smugly.
"...Very well. Superman, also known as Clark Kent, and his adoptive son, Christopher Kent, are hereby formally acknowledged as the son and grandson of Phantom, also known as Daniel James Fenton."
"Why you gotta doxx us like that?" Danny asked, voice smaller than he would have liked.
He had NOT intended to find out Superman's super secret identity.
~~~~~~
Clark had gotten sucked into the Phantom Zone, and actually managed to find Chris. But he couldn't get out, and he had to go back; his family was counting on him, the world was counting on him, and he missed everyone.
Enter, Phantom; a newer hero, a ghost that looks like a child.
Phantom adopts him and Chris both, and gets them out.
Jon is, of course, thrilled to have a little brother. Chris is cautiously happy to have a big brother.
Clark's just happy they're trying to get along.
He'd been worried Jon would be defensive or angry, but it seems to be working out.
There are other things to worry about.
For instance; Clark has, ever since the adoption, been able to see ghosts. Not a big deal, and a trade off he's willing to accept if it means getting out of the Phantom Zone and keeping Chris.
No, seeing ghosts isn't a big deal at all. (Maybe a little, he did get to see Pa again, after all. But it isn't a bad thing, is what he more means.)
What is a big deal, Clark thinks, is searching the name the eyeball people had given and finding out that Daniel James Fenton is very fucking much alive.
He really is only fifteen. It's not a ghost that looks fifteen, he is fifteen. He is a kid.
This kid lives in Amity Park, his parents are ghost hunters, and Clark would really like to know how a fifteen year old got separated from his soul and still manages to function.
Dcxdp prompt
Danny, a master of miscommunication, has somehow convinced the entire Justice League and Young Justice that he is four separate people; Phantom, the hero, Danny, the cafe owner who treats injuries with no questions asked, The Ghost Prince, a scary individual that beat pariah dark and is known to be extremely powerful, and Mr. Nightingale, the only mechanic who can keep up with both Red Robin and Cyborg.
Shenanigans ensue.
DP x DC. Danny Phantom, Superman, Batman.
A group of villains attack an event they know the JL is going to be investigating undercover. They're looking for secret Identities amongst the crowd, and Danny, long since a full-fledged adult, happens to be attending as well.
Danny, unlike Clark, does not dress to conceal his physique, or hide behind glasses, or hold himself to seem smaller or bumbling.
He gets wrongly picked out as Superman within moments.
And Danny, who can fly, who has mild superstrength, who can tell where kryptonite is because it radiates like all food-quality ectoplasam, who's not as concerned about being discovered since the meta rights act overturned the anti-ecto acts, and who's only become more of a gremlin as full fledged adult, figures 'Sure, why not, I can be Superman :)'
Batman is not the only person who is blindsided when "Superman" leans over and eats the kryptonite right out of the man's hand.
"That was rock candy." Not-Superman gave the man a cheshire cat grin. "You might want to double-check your supplier."
"That was definitely kryptonite," Superman informed him over the com, his voice flat with the kind of flabbergasted disbelief Batman had thought they both left behind a couple of world-ending-disasters ago.
Day (634/100) in my #∞daysofwriting @the-wip-project 24th of Feb
Danny, in his Ghost Zone travels, befriended the Flying Graysons. John and Mary like him so much, that it started as a joke, sort of.
"Ahhhhh, the son we never had! Welcome!"
"My little Robin's long lost little brother, come, come!"
And it morphed into him jokingly calling them Tata and Daj. Then it wasn't really a joke anymore.
Then the Observants inform him that as far as Ghost Law is concerned, they're his Ghost Guardians.
This means that Danny has two sets of parents; Jack and Maddie on the human side of things, and John and Mary on the ghost side of thing.
So when he sees Dick Grayson, who looks a lot like John, it just slips out.
This leads to a very awkward stare off in the middle of a coffee shop.
Danny has no idea how to explain himself.
There is a new teacher at Gotham Academy. Mr. Nightingale is someone who has a mostly clean record. The only stains on his record is being the son to two villains who have been put behind bars and being under a witness protection program to one Vlad Masters.
He was hired because Gotham Academy is in need of not only a Chemistry Teacher and an Engineering Teacher as well, so he will be paid double the amount of money because of him filling two roles.
The students of Gotham Academy are waiting to see if Mr. Nightingale will become a Rogue of Gotham or move on to following his parents' footsteps elsewhere with becoming a Villain to a different Hero.
What the students of Gotham Academy weren't expecting of Mr. Nightingale is that he's a pretty good guy. He's understanding of the students, doesn't give a lot of extra homework to do, and is always bringing snacks for hungry students, including vegan snacks for one Damian Wayne and other vegan students. The only anomaly to Mr. Nightingale is that he is constantly taking eyedrops every hour.
Danny is living pretty okay right now. His friends have moved out of Amity before him to pursue their dreams. They do keep in contact, but collage life keeps them busy. His parents were arrested by the Justice League, and the GIW was disbanded by the Justice League as well. Vlad couldn't get custody of Danny because of both Jazz and the Justice League listening to him about not wanting to be with Vlad. So he's living with his sister until he's old enough to live on his own.
Of course, Vlad wouldn't give up. He kept trying as Plasmius to get him to join the Fruitloop. As soon as Danny got his teaching license, something he wanted other than becoming an astronaut, he and Vlad had engaged in a battle that led to the Fruitloops Castle. The battle lasted a long time, both Halfa's badly hurt, but Danny most of all, as he may be the Prince of the Infinite Realms, but he doesn't have the Crown of Flames or the Ring of Rage to help him. His Ghost Half sustained a lot of damage, with the only injury that transferred to his human half was the burns to his eyes. This is how the Justice League found Danny in Vlad's Castle (as a human and not Phantom), Jazz had called the Justice League because Danny wasn't back yet. Now, he's got to take special eyedrops provided by Frostbite to help his human eyes heal and to help his Ghost Hlaf eyes heal as well.
He was put under witness protection for his safety, and considering that he's living in Gotham, he's got Montoya, some other trusted GCPD officers, and a Bat constantly with him. He's given up on being a hero, as becoming the Prince to the Infinite Realms has overwritten his Ghostly obsession to become the King when he's of age. The only downside is that the Bats and the Justice League are asking around for Phantom. He doesn't want to involve himself in anymore Hero matters, but that will change as he gets more involved with the Wayne family.
Danny and Damian are NOT twins, but they do look similar. Similar enough that the teachers have even started to get the two of them confused ever since Danny started to go to Gotham Academy. It gets even worse since they share almost every class together, and seem to get paired up anytime group work is needed in class.
It surprisingly didn’t take Damian very long to warm up to the other boy; if anything it was Danny who took the longest to accept the growing friendship between them. From that point on the two would purposely sit next to one another every class. The other students notice this very quickly and it isn’t long before the nickname ‘The Twins’ is being used to refer to them.
Damian once he hears this is immediately on board, and decides that Danny will be his twin brother. This is when he starts planning on how he’s going to get Danny integrating into the family. It’s meant to be Damian thinks when he later learns that Danny is attending the school on a scholarship, and doesn’t have any other family members listed on any of his paperwork.
In the end Damian decides that the best course of action is to just be direct. So, at the end of the school day he drags Danny with him to the car pick area, and pulls Danny inside of the vehicle waiting for him. Promptly declaring to Alfred who is confused to see another young boy — one who resembles Damian greatly — that this is his twin brother.
And Alfred just takes one long look at the black haired blue eyed boy before thinking to himself, “the apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree does it?” Before putting the car in drive and heading towards the manor.
Dcxdp trope twist
Danny didn’t mind being on Young Justice. He loved being around his new friends, and he truly felt accepted and cared for. However, since Vlad screwed up, he had to request to become last resort for the time being.
The rest of the team is confused, until Kon uses his x-ray vision and informs Tim through clenched teeth that there was a second core inside their teammate’s body, one with a baby slowly forming around it.
DP Prompt
So - When Danny actually gets a minute to breathe and think, it becomes obvious to him that NASA would never let him in space. If nothing else, refusing to give a blood sample would automatically disqualify him. But is he really going to let that stop him?
Hell no! He’s the son of Jack and Maddie Fenton. Those two crazy genius bastards who decided to prove everyone who thought them insane about ghosts wrong by building a portal to hell in the basement!
I want to see Danny embracing his mad scientist heritage and just Macgyvering it up there by himself. I want him to build himself a damn moon base. A tricked out spaceship that he uses to tour the solar system. And of course he’s documenting everything like a proper scientist and maybe streaming it to earth. Everyone on earth, of course, is losing their shit.
Give me a true Fenton!Danny, breaking all kinds of records, maybe discovering new life forms. First private person in space, first on the moon in 50 years, first on mars. He swings by Europa - Oh look! Alien marine life!
A Danny that is as crazy about everything space as his parents are about ghosts. And approaches it all in much the same way.
No one expected Tim to be the first of rhe batkids to adopt a child. Especially Tim Drake-Wayne himself. But what else was he supposed to do when the strange glowing ferret-worm thing eating his Death wish coffee grounds turned into a confused, and now hyper, five year old boy?
Well he did after he was done freaking out over a meta child eating Death Wish Coffee grounds.
