I’ve seen the shortened version of Cab Calloway’s St James Infirmary Blues from the Betty Boop Snow White 1933 cartoon on Tumblr a few times, thought you’d all like the full version.
Maro, as a straight white old guy who’s been playing since The Dark, I wanted to thank you and everyone else making Magic for the diversity and inclusion on the cards. Characters like Ral, Nissa, Nico, Daretti, and others mean a great deal to other players (and for me they are just great characters), please continue to show everyone how much variety the multiverse has room for.
We have no plans to change that. Some of us still recognize that diversity, equality, and inclusion are good and valuable things.
Today is my second week of being laid off. I probably have to make my older son- 4 - switch daycares. My younger son, 2, just started, and its just so expensive. The potential place is okay and less money, but he said on the way to see it that he likes his current school, and I almost broke into tears at that second. I don't want to switch schools/ care centers. I feel like everything I've done, to lead me to a moment that I'm so barely prepared for anything, having less than the minimum to keep everything running (I'm already falling behind every month on bills)... I've really failed here. My wife gives birth tomorrow to our third - a girl- after our first two were IVF boys, we are having a girl naturally (all of our embryos were boys). I should feel more blessed, but I just feel terrified.
I love my kids and my wife. I really hate myself right now. I hope I feel any better after I cry, because right now, I really need to.
It's worth noting that there are some extraordinary people in the world who have been quietly doing the work for decades, and they should be celebrated with all the fervor that we denounce the villains. I first read about Harrison twenty-odd years ago, when he'd already been doing this for about fifty years, and this is one of those guys whose life can, indeed, be summed up by his headline.
James Harrison saved millions of lives. Millions. Not with anything flashy or dramatic, not with profound speeches or brilliant strategy or any of the things we insist are the ways to impact the world. He simply kept himself as healthy as possible so that every few weeks he could go and sit quietly in a room and give away a fundamental part of himself — quite literally his lifeblood — to people he'd never meet, for no pay and no expectation of acknowledgement. (He was, it should be said, acknowledged quite a lot per this article, but that's beside the point.)
When we talk about the kind of people we want to elevate and celebrate in our societies, I often think of people like James Harrison. I hope we get more of him; not just for his blood, but for his heart.

An excellent sentiment.
Admittedly, I will have to watch carefully with a few of my own family members to be sure I don't fall into this.

Just absolute magic for me. This was a catch my breath bit when I watched it.
It's even funnier if you know the regular Oyama/ Mulligan dynamic, where Oyama plays the minimalist and Mulligan builds out lore.
I love Dropout TV.
