Goretober 2023: Growth

Been playing Dredge this month to relax, so I wanted to slip it into my goretober prompts this year. Absolutely a lovely horror experience <3

Second part of the batch in Artfight! Also had fun with them as part 1 was, so this is also in order of these lovely OCs and who they belong to!

Azure!! This is my AU Cyberelf X. I like overcomplicating things, but still had fun with his design. <3 

He’s a mentor figure to Seraph, my AU Copy X, confined to Axis, otherwise known as the Resistance Base. This is due to him being forced to seal the Dark Elf in his body– Though not in the way you’d expect. As mentioned in Seraph’s bio, Cial is the villain of this story, a human with a strong hatred for most machines and imperfection. 

She wanted to seal the Dark Elf in X’s body, and use it to control the entirety of Neo Arcadia as its new ruler, and the planet beyond. Unfortunately this didn’t work as well as she’d hope, as X absconded the city injured, with the Dark Elf attempting to break free of his metal skeleton. This drained him of most of his energy, to the point where, once he found a place to hide his body, he could no longer leave cyberspace or places where he could embed himself (much like a NetNavi). 

His personality is fairly chill, though he has zero tolerance for those threatening peace. He chose to train Seraph to defeat Cial upon finding the Copy had a bone to pick with the woman as well. After revealing the location of Seraph’s (his old) Mythos armor, an armor set with adaptive properties, he parted to cyberspace to rest with the phrase, “Strike down the Maverick with extreme prejudice!”

Today’s featured page artist is Cris @hellscythearts! An experienced comic artist, they express their fondness for the Zero series through gorgeous art and storytelling. [Twitter] [Instagram] 

Raised under harsh expectations, a dangerously competitive sibling and an expansive library, Vesperling Williams is a bit of a prodigy, a fast learner and an even faster problem solver (of most things). His mother was a powerful Necromancer, and his father was a man of many magics, considered to be one of the most powerful magic users in the world. This eventually led to Vesper, who inherited both of their combined magics when he was born, enough that it caused his mother’s death upon birth. As powerful as that makes him, he cannot use all of his magic freely as his father can, resulting in magical recoil. Vesper, with all the magic in him, experiences magical recoil often; there are few spells he can complete without damaging himself purely because he cannot always control the amount of magic he puts forth. This doesn’t happen with alchemy and summoning/necromancy, as one is given to him naturally as an ability through his mother and the other involves the mixing of magical properties, not creating elements/things from nothing. Thankfully the amount of recoil he receives lessens after Volt is summoned because the Demon can balance it out, though there is still risk of injury with any ability Volt isn’t naturally gifted with. When he was eighteen, he summoned the Wrath Demon known as Volt (Voluntas), and had a very simple contract that puzzled the irritable Infernal: “I wish for a best friend.” Volt agreed, seeing that such a contract would be easy, and that he would gain a powerful soul in return, though warned the human exactly what would happen to him. Vesper wholeheartedly accepted. Most people at the time found it unnerving for the young man to be followed by ominous creatures like hellhounds or Infernal Dragons, but Vesper always assured them he was in no trouble! After all, Volt was his best friend! Now that he’s a few years older, Vesper currently is a Senior in Westborough College of Magi (WCOM), only a few months away from graduating. His true major follows his natural abilities, Summoning/Necromancy, and has a sub in Alchemy. (Necromancy is a subcategory of Summoning, as it is summoning a specific thing– souls– hense why Vesper can perform Summoning with relative ease.) In his downtime, Vesper loves cooking and baking. If you ask him why, he’ll say it’s similar to Alchemy, and easy to follow. In his late teen years, he started subbing magical ingredients to his food instead of the regular option, to see what would happen, of if he could make something completely new! (Think like food buffs in video games lol.) He’s a pretty cheerful guy with a steep level of patience, and rarely loses it. But like any person, he has his bad moments, and has to fight self deprecation built on a family competing for their father’s attention. It’s a rough time, but he’s got Voluntas to help him keep it together.

My last art fight piece this year was naturally another revenge for @hellscythearts <3 I didn’t get the chance to finish it before the event ended, so here’s the flat version! 

I really like this drawing a lot though, and I’m definitely going to finish shading and polishing it at my own pace now that the event is over <3
