I Think I Finally Realize Why The Writing In BNKA Always Puts Me Off In Some Way, Something I've Been

I think I finally realize why the writing in BNKA always puts me off in some way, something I've been saying for a while but never got a chance to go into detail.

The writing in BNKA feels like narrative manipulation.

I've come to this conclusion after seeing how the fandom reacts to certain moments and compare them to earlier scenes. And that was when it all clicked for me to come up with this word.

With how the unholy three started out (Bakugou, Aizawa, and Endeavor) then seeing their personalities and how others view them take a complete 180 to view them in a better light, that's what I'm referring to as narrative manpulation.

With Bakugou starting out as a bully and supposedly "changing" so others can say "Wow what a great guy he is!" And praise him to the moon and back... it's literally middle school all over again for him.

With Aizawa coming across as unfair and uncaring only for the narrative to prove he's right every time and have others treat him like he's japanese Einstein.

And with Endeavor starting off as a horrible person and the main conflict for Shoto to overcome... only for his family to welcome him back with open arms and say "We're all to blame for what happened!" just to lift some of it off of him and make him seem like he meant well.

The one common thing about these three is Hori having them express negative emotions and crying and the fandom eats it all up. Claiming that they've gone through development and that they really do care and are more than what we were led to believe. And then have them act the exact same way like nothing happened.

And that my friend... is narrative manipulation.

Hi @theloganator101 👋,

100%.

All of the writing in MHA is narrative manipulation but especially with those three.

Bakugou, Aizawa and Endeavour have narrative manipulation, their own in-universe simps, characters not reacting to them as they should and retcons to soften them and make them more palatable to the audience.

Bakugou and Endeavour are easy and extreme examples so I'll begin with Aizawa first.

With Aizawa, this has worked so well that you rarely see people critical of him and only those who have fully and critically looked at him in canon without #Dadzawa colouring their perception.

His students should dislike / hate or at the very least be wary of him. A teacher who sleeps all the time, pulls "logical ruses" lies and expels on a whim would realistically cause the mental health of his students to plummet. Yet all of 1A (including Izu who he seems to very much dislike) love him for some reason...

He's praised as logical, "harsh but effective" yet his fellow teachers should HATE him. Through the amount of students he's expelled I've heard some people theorising that he has expelled OTHER teachers students. Imagine how angry you would be as a teacher to find one of your students careers destroyed because a fellow teacher expelled them for a bullshit reason. Not only that but logically Aizawa's expulsions would have destroyed lives, destroyed careers before they fully lifted off the ground even made villians.

*There's also the fact that he's not shown to be a great friend in canon either, yet Aizawa is surrounded by Shirakumo, Yamada or Kayama who aren't offput from his behaviour. And even has a respect from All Might (despite the fact that Aizawa has been shown to dislike him.)

* - I'm not blaming Aizawa for being depressed or low key here. That's understandable. However friendship is about give and take. We don't see Aizawa being supportive back to his friends, we see them support him only. And when there's an opportunity to show Aizawa being supportive like to Mic after Midnight's death, Hori doesn't take it. Hori instead makes Aizawa shut Mic up. Additionally, when you like someone and are friends with them - you make the effort to show you like their company, you like being around them, you engage with them. Aizawa acts annoyed by his friends most of the time he's with them on screen, like he's grudgingly tolerating them at best.

Then there's Bakugou who is praised as the second coming of Christ, who lost nothing for suicide baiting a quirkless kid (our MC) and abusing him for ten years! Instead Izuku still calls him "Kacchan" 🤮, Bkg has made friends who are staunchly "anti bully" in Mina and Kirishima (who look stupid or hypocrites for being friends with this POS), Aizawa even praises and favours him for some reason despite Bkg's power being astonishingly one note and Bkg having so much of an awful attitude for heroics the villians thought he was a good recruit. 😬 Bakugou is the worst written character I have seen in a long time - a true Gary Stu.

And finally we have Endeavour, the child abusing POS himself who gets a tragic backstory that none of us wanted to see (his father dying as a kid), we have blame shifting on to Rei and Touya with their respective insanity (also now blame shifted on to Rei's incestous fam by some fans) and some even saying "Endeav had Touya's best interests at heart all along" which truly makes me scoff. If Endeav had Touya's best interests he would have taught Touya to cool himself off, he would have found another interest for them to bond over and sent him to therapy. Not ignoring his spiralling son until he died then got saved by All For One.

In addition, Rei's entire character being used as an "Endeav is not that bad" mouth piece makes me sick, Endeavour broke this woman, physically, emotionally and sexually (depending on your reading but she didn't look consenting to Natsuo and Shoto's births) abused her. So this choice with her character doesn't even make sense, she couldn't even see Shoto, she burnt her child because he looked like Endeav! Why doesn't she loathe this man like she should?! It is sick. It's even sicker of Hori to make her say "We are all responsible for what happened." Like that isn't the most delusional and victim blaming shit to say to your children who couldn't have done squat against their hero father.

Then there's Shoto and his story being overshadowed again by his abusive father, his friendship with Izuku being made about forgiving said abusive father. Shoto deserved so much better than this.

TLDR - the victims of the story should have been allowed to show the impact of their abuse / teaching malpractice that they have dealt with.

Aizawa should have resigned his teaching job (that he didn't even want in the first place) and got therapy as well trying his best to make it up to all those whose lives he ruined.

Bakugou should have been expelled for being an abusive asshole and being too dumb to hide it.

Endeavour should have had the Todofam HATE his guts and no one in his corner coddling him when he cries about Dabi then later Dabi should have finished him off instead of sprouting ice randomly.

Dabi Was The Most Disastrous Thing To EVER Happen To The League Of Villains And Is The MVP For The Hero Team

Hiring Dabi was like Tomura being handed a knife. Trusting this guy and giving him leadership of ANYTHING was Tomura cutting his own throat. Dabi is a complete and utter fraud. The guy can't kill his way out of a paper bag. If he's up against characters who don't have a name, always bet on Dabi.

But if he has to fight someone who has a name and isn't just a background character who was invented just to die (like Snatch) then this guy is cooked.

Dabi is also a bum because he actively harmed the League at every step of the way.

He's the reason their hideout was rumbled. Someone saw Dabi leave the League's bar to go squat in the nearby abandoned building and called the cops. The cops investigated and later found the LOV base. He's the reason Momo and Awase are alive right now. Because he didn't have the Chainsaw Nomu finish the job and take them out. He's also the reason the Nomu lab got found out. Because he was the leader of the mission but he couldn't be bothered to check his nomu for damages and see the obvious tracking device that was planted on him. Momo was knocked out and had to wake up to tell the heroes what she did to help. At anytime Dabi could have destroyed the device, but he couldn't be bothered to look. He caused All For One to get arrested and undermined the League's victory in the forest camp arc. The heroes got a big win and All Might ended his career in a blaze of glory.

He's the one who puts his agenda ahead of the League's. The guy was absent for most of the Overhaul arc bbqing nameless characters.

He's the one who sent Hood to die against Endeavor, removing a powerful ally from the League's arsenal. That High End Nomu could have made mince meat out of other pro heroes who are NOT Endeavor, but Dabi decides to send him against the worst possible target. Oh, and of course this boosts Endeavor's popularity and gets people believing in him, right when public sentiment about Endeavor was low. The loser just gave his dad a public trial by fire that he won with a flourish!

And he's the one who brought Hawks into the League and failed to do any sort of checks on the guy. The disastrous first war was 100% Dabi's fault. He didn't bother to check if Best Jeanist was dead. He didn't keep a watch on Hawk. He didn't kidnap a hero or two and demand Hawks kill them in front of him, with the implication being that he'd burn Hawks to death if he failed to comply. This is standard stuff to sus out an undercover cop. The guy's lack of any sort of education really shows here. In a world where Hawks doesn't enter the League, they 100% win, effortlessly. They had the MLA join them, they had the doctor creating an army of Nomu, and All For One would have fully taken over Tomura's body. The only reason the MHA universe isn't ruled by the demon king right now? Dabi's incompetence. He's also a bum because he wasn't shown to be doing anything at all until he saw Stain's broadcast. What was he gonna do without the League? Sit and wait forever and achieve nothing?

He's also the reason All For One, Tomura, Toga, and Kurogiri died.

See, he had the chance to kill both Endeavor and Shoto but he decided not to. He said he wanted Endeavor to be awake to see his masterpiece burn, and since Endeavor passed out, he didn't finish the job. Oh, and guess what? He didn't kill Hawks, either. He couldn't even be bothered to avenge his homie, Twice. Had he taken out Hawks and Tokoyami, the heroes would have suffered IMMENSE LOSSES in this war and the entire war arc part 2 looks different.

Well, congrats, Dabi. You're the reason the first war arc happened, and you're directly the reason why the second one was a failure. You wanna know another reason why Dabi is the reason his friends are dead?

If he'd killed Aoyama during the forest camp arc, where we have ZERO REASON to believe he knew Aoyama was a spy for their side (as Aoyama was AFO's servant, not Tomura's) then Aoyama wouldn't have been alive to get outed as a spy, and then be used by the heroes to lead the League into an ambush.

Heck, he fucked up multiple times in the forest arc. He's the one who had a gameplan that left Mustard entirely on his own instead of keeping some boys at his side because his quirk is a one hit kill if someone inhales the gas.

His clone yapped and ran its mouth to Aizawa about how they were after a student, which is what got the guy to give the students permission to fight back.

He's the one who demanded Compress unmarble the students, resulting in them not abducting Tokoyami, just Bakugo.

He's got fire hotter than lava but couldn't be bothered to BBQ some kids to ensure they do more damage to hero society and aren't gonna be a problem in the future.

The guy can turn human bodies into charcoal in an instant, but his flames never manage to burn anyone the author cares about.

We call Dabi 007.

Zero 1 vs 1 fight victories.

Zero kills on plot relevant characters.

7 victims who walked off his flames barely worse for wear. The League would have objectively been better off if this guy never joined.

So I was looking around the bnha subreddit and found a forum asking who everyone's least favorite hero (besides endeavor because that would be too obvious). One comment talked about how uwabami wasted momo and itsukas potential, and one of the replies said this about momo:

So I Was Looking Around The Bnha Subreddit And Found A Forum Asking Who Everyone's Least Favorite Hero

live suchusoid reaction:

So I Was Looking Around The Bnha Subreddit And Found A Forum Asking Who Everyone's Least Favorite Hero

I'd tear this argument down myself, but I'm to tired and hungry, so I was wondering what your thoughts on this were.

Ugghhhh, it's 1 AM. I was gonna leave the rest of my asks for a more motivated me.

This has, officially, motivated me. For this ask specifically, the rest of y'all will have to wait.

So!

Momo's quirk is insanely powerful. Her quirk is creating objects out of her lipids, though the measure is never really clear.

She isn't even fazed by creating a canon. Which! By the way! A canon is roughly 600kg. Six. Hundred.

That is over 10 times her weight. And that isn't even the limit.

All we know is that she cannot create living organisms, but it's also not clear if this includes things such as bacteria. Because it's unclear, I'll only look at inanimate objects.

Momo is literally only held back by her creativity, and thus Horikoshi's creativity.

She's insanely powerful and versatile.

Oh, the villain has a fire quirk? Time to make a fite extinguisher!

Oh, the villain has a wood-based quirk? Time to make a flamethrower!

Oh, a civillian is bleeding out? Time to create a medkit!

Oh, someone's drowning? Time to make an oxygen tank!

Her quirk is only limited by what she knows and her ability to think on the fly. That is all. Because there is no known limit to how much she can make.

It isn't that her quirk isn't OP, it's that Horikoshi didn't allow Momo to use her quirk to her full capacity.

Like, against Tokoyami, she could have easily created flashbombs to weaken him, or a flamethrower to keep a consistent amount of light.

She could destroy Bakugou simply by creating gunpowder and throwing it at him - he'd blow himself up. Or making a hose and spraying him.

Most of all: she could make a gun. Like, it's so weird that so many mangakas forget that guns exist, because so many people in MHA could be beaten by a gun.

Momo has the ability to create anything she needs to beat her opponent. It's literally just her ability to adapt and her (or Horikoshi's) creativity.

Fucking– LOOK AT FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST!

Ed is far more limited in his alchemy than Momo is with her quirk, in that he can only transmute things if the cost is equivalent. But he's still far more creative than Momo is in the use of his abilities.

Heck, even Senkuu from Dr. Stone has more creativity than Momo, and he doesn't have any supernatural abilities.

Momo's quirk is OP, and she would be awful as plain fanservice.

I'm not against fanservice. Heck, I love both One Piece and Fairy Tail - fan service is not unwelcome. But, fan service should be done in moderation and some series just don't need it. Also, the context does matter.

Bringing up FMA again, the only fan service we get is from Lust who, shocker, is the personification of lust. Her entire being is lustful, so it makes complete sense for her to be fan service. But she also serves other purposes, and doesn't exist solely for fan service.

In MHA, it's fine to include fan service if it has a point.

Mount Lady is introduced via fan service to show how female heroines have to act in order to gain fame. Uwabami emphasises this, as does Midnight.

However, a theme that was (attempted to be) shown was 'Old vs New Generation'. All those heroines showcasing their fan service were part of the older generation, and the new one was supposed to change the status quo.

Momo and Kendou were both shown to be disgruntled at the idea of using their sexuality to gain fame, and were far more focused on actually becoming heroes and bettering their abilities.

To say that Momo should have only existed for fan service is completely missing the point and invalidating her character.

If anything, she should have been able to show skin without it being sexualised. In the same way male fan service was used to show strength, Momo (and other female characters) should have had fan service to show their strength, rather than being sexualised.

People like the person in that image frustrate me, because they have no idea what they're talking about.

"At best, a canon that doesn't move," NO!

At best, a fucking hydrogen bomb. She could create nuclear weapons. She could do so much, it's Horikoshi who limits her.

lurker here, I just gotta ask, since ua is a point of extreme criticism in your bnha stories, what are your full opinions on both aizawa and nedzu (ik they're not the only 2, but their actions are a lot more influential at how ua runs things) since I believe those two are the reasons why ua is why it is in both canon and fanon stuff ive seen?

Isn't that a loaded question?

To get this out of the way I do not think Aizawa is a bad hero. He is shown to be a skilled combatant, has mastery over his quirk, and generally knows what he is doing on the field.

However, he is a dogshit teacher.

He routinely ignores his class in favor of sleep, he can't recognize signs of abuse and bullying among his students, he expels entire classrooms of students (more on that later), he shows at least an extent of favoritism because if we are to believe his expulsion record then why else is Bakugou and Mineta still enrolled, his logical ruses are pointless at best and cause trust issues at worth, and to be honest his teaching methods are shit judging by his admittance that Vlad King is a better teacher during the Joint-Training Arc.

Back to the expulsion point, is Aizawa aware that by his expulsion of entire classrooms of students he is effectively ruining their lives?

Japan places high values on education as both a country and a society. It is one of the most influential factors in a citizen's life as it affects both employment and socioeconomic growth.

Upon expelling a student, Aizawa has effectively left a black mark on their record. From a normal school, this could put them a minimum wage job for the rest of their life. From an elite hero school, this could make them jobless for the rest of their life. The idea that Aizawa expelled them only to re-enroll them later and for them to be grateful for it is either a disgustingly ignorant or intentionally malicious choice on Horikoshi's part.

While Aizawa may eventually remove that mark, he is still controlling students through fear by threatening them with essentially poverty.

That isn't even taking into account how many current or former students of him have mutant quirks, have darker skin, are LGBTQIA+ in some way, or other factors that would feed into societal discrimination.

Once again, he essentially threatens them with death for what? Not understanding what they're getting into when it comes to training to be a hero? No one knows what they are getting into becoming a hero or the sacrifices they'll have to make from physical strain, social exposure, and mental exhaustion.

He ultimately suffers from what most BNHA characters suffer from, misunderstanding what makes certain tropes work. He is supposed to be another closed off but secretly caring anime teacher, but what makes those characters work is the fact they aren't teaching in a classroom but rather outside of one in non-school circumstances.

As for Nezu, it is more complicated because we don't see as much as him or know as much about him as we do with Aizawa. What we do know is that he doesn't like humans and judging by UA and his actions as a principal he really seems hellbent on destroying the hero career and the humans within his care (the robots for the simulations and entrance exam, having teachers go all out for final exams, the crowding them all into dorms, the shit security towards the beginning). For him it is more a question of how he can be the principal.

Describe Bakugo’s development in short words

If you were to ask me how would I describe Bakugo’s development in short words, it would come across as being boring and predictable. Let’s start with the fact that despite being a secondary character, Bakugo has no real purpose/contribution in the main story line. His involvement with Deku and OFA doesn’t amount to anything other than mindless yelling, guilt tripping, and just him treating it as a competition to try and surpass Deku when he unlocks his other quirks. The only reason he’s involved in a lot of what’s going on is because of his popularity. He started gaining popularity when he won the Sports festival and because everyone like the stereotypical angry rival trope. He can be replaced by literally any other character and nothing would change.

It’s basically a pattern whenever Bakugo is involved with something.

- Bakugo will treat others beneath him and continue to call the extras.

- Whatever is going in the story if it’s a fight between the villains or something school related, he’ll treat it as a competition.

- He’ll either verbally attack Deku and everyone around them or get physical to get what he wants.

- Deku won’t see this as an issue and continue to gush over Bakugo about how he’s a good friend and the idea of him being the symbol of victory

-Anyone that calls out his horrible behavior will do a complete 180 and talk about how whatever he said either makes sense or to give some baseless excuse about how he changed

- Aizawa, All Might and or anyone in UA will make some claim about how his some kind of an inspiration for 1A and Bakugo is trying harder than everyone else(completely ignoring all of 1A’s accomplishments and improvements throughout their first year)

- After winning or coming out on top whatever Bakugo will take his win for granted and will act like it doesn’t mean anything while acting aggressive when someone compliments him

- What ever punishment or consequences he gets(not matter how fatal is) will be minor and the story will find to way to have him come out at top without any struggle

- The story will have characters feel bad, guilty for Bakugo for something so minuscule and or try to punish them in a similar manner like Bakugo (A recent example of the story punishing characters because of Bakugo’s actions is in the Card OVA. I didn’t bother watching it because I knew it was just a product plug for training cards but from what I viewed from other people’s discussions, the match between Deku and Bakugo ends with a tie. Apparently Bakugo threw another hissy fit and not only destroyed the card game but blew up the dorm with everyone inside. Instead of punishing Bakugo for destroying public property and potentially injuring his classmates, Aizawa decides to punish all of Class 1A and ban them from playing any other games in the dorm.)

I know everyone has their own interpretation on how they feel about Bakugo and that’s perfectly fine. I don’t have problem if you like him, but Bakugo is written as if everything he did or stood for never mattered. Izuku, Class 1A , UA and by extension Horikoshi, wants the audience to believe that all the positive aspects about his character somehow outweigh the negatives and we’re supposed to accept that Bakugo has fully grown while at the same time instantly forgiving him for being a spiteful and petty bully. No matter what happens to him, he’ll still come out on top as if what he went through wasn’t consequential or lethal. He’s constantly giving wins and random asspulls to favor him despite either doing the bare minimum of his supposed development or not doing anything at all. Bakugo in the eyes of others will always be seen as the true MVP and is the one that always has to win. He’s nothing but a pet under the care of his creator who will go out of his way to make every other character look bad and pathetic than they already are; including the main protagonist.

real question,

why do proshippers love rape so much? do you guys want to rape someone irl?

why do you guys love pedophilia/grooming so much? have you ever had thoughts about doing those actions or irl minors?

why do you guys love incest so much? is this just a way for you to vent your frustration cause your sibling(s) /step sibling(s) rejected you for your literal illegal behavior?

why do you guys love all these crimes so much? why do you love it when someone calls sexual and predatory abuse attractive as if it hasn't traumatized billions of people word wide?

this is like a genuine question I'm being deadass

EDIT REAL QUICK LMAO

for the proshippers whining and bitching in my comments abt me getting a hobby just letting you know that I,

play guitar, play volleyball, I read books, write OC lore and my indie show lore (cause I wanna make showns n shit), I thrift, I collect physical media like dvds, vhs, ect, I regularly go to flea/farmers market, I draw regularly, I collect plushies, I make pins and sell them to kids at my school, and as of recently I've been thinking abt making loom bracelets and kandi again!

so how about you hoes find a better comeback and get some hobbies of ur own? thanks 😊🖕
