Iāve written on Bakugo before, hurriedly (within about 24 hours) and messily, but heās a character that I feel so strongly about that I need to give this another go. Before we begin I have a few disclaimers that Iād like everyone to keep in mind:
1. Youāre always allowed to like fictional characters, for any reason. Deconstructing why a characterās behavior is problematic is in no way a personal attack on those who like them in spite of (or even because of) those actions. Is Bakugo your fave? Awesome! Iām glad youāre enjoying him in the series. Feel free to read this if youāre interested in differing opinions, but to be honest this is probably more geared towards those who already donāt like him.Ā āDonāt like, donāt readā remains a staple of fandom for a reason, so please stick to it.Ā
2. Iāll be writing this up through Chapter 190, henceĀ āsemiā comprehensive. Maybe Iāll do a part two once the series is finished. Iām not sure yet. Also, keep in mind that every translation is slightly different. The one I used can be found here.Ā
3. Iāve already decided that I wonāt be responding to any comments on this post. Not because I donāt enjoy a good debate (boy do I ever), but Iāve got a lot of important Real Life writing to do and really canāt afford to get distracted. That is, any more distracted than Iāve already been with this meta and to be frank, charged conversations about this character is not what Iām looking for right now. I wanted to say my piece and now I have. But feel free to chat among yourselvesārespectfully!
4. This meta is long. I mean itās really long. You think you know how long it is? Youāre wrong. Itās longer. This is my magnum opus of metas and honestly I have no regrets. Just keep length in mind if you think,Ā āOh, Iāll give this a quick read through!ā You wonāt. Thatās not possible. And Iām so very sorry.Ā Ā
Okay, thatās the boring stuff out of the way. Letās dive in.
Thereās something to be said for the argument that the most important part of a story is its beginning. The start of a tale either grabs us or leaves us cold. It sets up all our expectations and, whether the author is consciously aware of it or not, has a strong impact on the ending. Stories donāt exist without their beginnings (for obvious reasons) and itās worth giving them some extra attention. Boku No Hero Academia starts with this:
We donāt know these people yet, but itās easy enough to figure out their role in this tale; whoās the hero and whoās the villain. We learn a lot in just five panels. Bakugo has been beating up on another, weaker kid and heās āalready made him cry.ā This is significant because it sets up Bakugoās empathyāor lack thereof. His first victim is not Izuku, the āfriendā who we later learn infuriates and at times even intimidates Bakugo. As horrible as it is, we can explain some of his violence towards Izuku, though we certainly canāt justify it. But this is different. Bakugo appears to be beating on a random kid simply because he can. Because he enjoys it. Though weāre only in the first panel, the crux of Bakugoās characterization is laid out for us to see. It emphasizes my primary argument and the reason why I donāt think he can ever be a hero, no matter how much Horikoshi wants us to root for him.
Bakugo lacks empathy for other people.Ā

Part of why I love Muzan in KnY is because I relate to him. While his objective actions in the story are obviously evil, I think heās a lot more sympathetic than the writers want him to be. This essay explores Muzanās backstory, his treatment by the narrative, and my feelings toward the use of his character. As such, it contains MAJOR MANGA SPOILERS. THIS IS YOUR WARNING. This piece is not trying to ācancelā KnY for ableism or to say anything about the views of the mangaka/anime screenwriters/etc. I enjoyed KnY, and if youāre thinking about giving it a shot, I do recommend it. This is just a self-reflective piece that I wrote to process my own experiences with chronic illnesses in my own life and analyze the nuances of a piece of media that I love.

Douma is one of those guys I feel like a lot of people misunderstand. And to be honest, I donāt fault either the people for not looking deeply enough nor Gotouge for writing him āweirdly,ā heās written just fine, but heās genuinely so different and uncanny that itās hard to nail his character down. Heās not someone youāre really supposed to relate to, where his lack of humanity is his core characteristic and the most intriguing parts of his character is just how distanced he is from the concept of having personhood.
This being said, he kinda suffers from the same problems as Muzan where the fact that heās placed in a story full of fighting and action did him a huge disservice. Any interesting mentalities or thought processes he could have sparked are overshadowed by blood and gore and flashy colors.
Heās also not given nearly enough time to properly establish his role as an influential, scarily competent cult leader. In the narrative, heās painted as this positive, airheaded guy whoās a little fucked up sometimes, which completely skips over exploring how he acts in front of his followers, or just people he generally wants to keep up appearances for. Does he act more mature? Does he try to fit the image of the savior in his followersā minds? Does he not try to change his persona at all? What does he actually say? What does he actually do? You might point out that Kotoha shows an example of how he treats followers, maybe a little warmly, maybe with a little pity, but the fact most of her story was revealed through exposition and through his POV alone can give him grounds to skew it in order to fit his own philosophies (and we already know heās a bit of an unreliable narrator so).
The above point is definitely a problem that could have been fixed had he had a whole arc dedicated to himself while in his Savior persona, with more people to tell Kotohaās story in a different point of view, but I digress.
I do think his role serving as a foil to Shinobu, Kanao, and Inosuke was nicely executed. But, it did feel half baked since it was all shoved into the Infinity Fortress arc with barely any build up. Well, hmm, Shinobu is fine? Itās Kanao and Inosuke I have more issues with, which Iāll explain more in their specific analysis posts.
(Ooh, I kinda want to touch on the discussion on if Douma is misogynistic or not, but Iām not sure if people would be more interested in me just analyzing the canon content alone and giving a solid yes or no answer, or if they want to hear my personal interpretation which can branch from canon quite a bit. In any case, itāll be its own separate post.)

This Muzan line is so interesting to me because itās the closest the manga comes to ever saying the quiet part out loud. There was nothing Muzan couldāve done to change what he became.
By the time he killed his doctor, he was already in the middle of his human to demon transition. He had pursued a cure to his illness (reasonable), his doctor had done his best to make an experimental cure for him (reasonable), the cure had unintended side effects (reasonable), and side effects had included amplified anger and murderous intent (unfortunate).
Natural disasters just happen. They donāt have agency. The reason you donāt take revenge on an erupting volcano is because it didnāt make a conscious choice to kill people. No one is to blame for the disaster. Likewise, Muzan had absolutely no agency against his fate. Even if he had started out as the worldās nicest human, even if he made exclusively good choices considering the information he was given, he wouldāve ended up becoming a demon and eating people. The only immoralĀ āchoiceā he made was killing his doctor, but if the medicine he was given was making him a demon anyway, the likelihood of that occurring during his first demonic rampage was extremely high. Regardless of whether he conquered the sun, whether he took his medication as prescribed, whether he was a good or bad human, he wouldāve ended up with a near insatiable taste for human flesh. With no support network to hold him back from his urges until he was capable of settling down, his evil was essentially inevitable.
A lot of people say that Muzan is interesting because heās one of the only pure evil villains with no redeeming qualities, but I disagree. Heās interesting because heās one of the only villains who became evil by accident, in the process of pursuing something good.
On a more critical note, I think that the fact that this line from him is so clearly meant to be seen as inaccurate or bad speaks to the authorās lack of consideration for the moral implications of their plot. The moralization of illness in KnY has always bothered me. What, in the eyes of the author, should Muzan have done as a human? What is the moral of his story? Simply donāt be chronically ill? That seems a bit ableist. If you are ill, accept that youāre ill and just let yourself die as god intended? Also seems a bit ableist. Only take proven, known cures that are guaranteed to not have side effects? A little anti-science, or, more charitably, a misunderstanding of how the scientific process works⦠so what should Muzan have done instead? Much to think about.
For being the main antagonist of this series, there is a reason why people naturally gravitate more towards his Upper Moons, and that is the execution of his characterization. Iām sure many of you have come across posts explaining the references to natural disasters and his philosophy and also his constant claims to godhood, which are aspects that I do think Gotouge intended to share, but itās not particularly delved into.
I have had complaints before that it was really difficult to relate to Muzanās character in any way. Now, I realize that was the point Gotouge was intending to make, however this realization didnāt quite satisfy me like it should have. Heās arrogant, stubborn, and sometimes flat out childish, but at no point do we see any strengths. Itās not clear if he has a genuine passion for science. Or for learning in general. He doesnāt have a single likeable trait to contrast his faults, other than heās charismatic, but we do not see that part of him nearly as much as we should.
His motivations for becoming the perfect Demon donāt have any plans afterwards, either. Like, what was he going to do after he accomplished his goal? We donāt know. And the fact that we really donāt know, when it should have been stated at some point, is not great, since again, this is our main antagonist. In a shounen.
I donāt know, I donāt doubt Gotouge had big ideas for Muzan, but it feels like they really bit off more than they could chew, and the genre that Muzan is placed in being action-focused didnāt do him any favors. I am a firm believer of the idea that he would have fared much better in some Edwardian era science horror where his philosophy and unique outlook on life would have been expected to be properly explored. But, yeahā¦
The way Muzan walks in this scene has been criticized for beingĀ ācarelessā orĀ ārude,ā and I see why people would say that considering his seeming disregard for the dead bodies, but I would like to propose an alternate theory. When I was watching this episode (and before I had seen anyone else comment on this scene), I noticed that his walk seemed oddly familiar to me and I think Iāve figured out why. Itās the way someone walks when they are actively thinking about how theyāre walking.
I have an autoimmune joint condition that causes pain in my hips and back, and when it flares up, I have to force myself to stand up super straight and take really calculated steps when I walk to avoid doing things that cause the pain to get worse. I try take the straightest possible path, to not to change my steps by stepping over things to reduce variables that could make me āmess upā and move in a way that hurts. Muzanās walk here looks a lot like my walk when I am doing this. Heās consistent, heās stiff, he keeps a straight line, and he avoids stepping over or on things.
This makes sense given his backstory. Not only did he grow up chronically ill, heās also permanently injured from Yoriichiās past attacks on him. Heās probably in some amount of pain (or at least is very familiar with chronic pain). Even despite him becoming a demon and gaining a stronger body, you can still see it in the way he moves. Heās methodical about using his body in a way that only those who have suffered through chronic pain would be.
Muzan was born into a wealthy family during Japanās Heinan Period. His parents were highly respected and powerful during that time. So much so that his parents, Zetsubou and Ryuuki Kibutsuji planned on giving Muzan inheritance to all the estates they owned around Japan. And prior to Muzan getting diagnosed with a disease that would kill him, his parents hoped that their son would soon produce a heir by having Muzan be introduced to potential brides at the Kibutsuji estate.
He most likely is there's no excuse.
For someone that's lived for 1000 years I'm not surprised if he's slept with any men.
The Things he Hates About You.
SFW. Fluff? Angst? Muzan x GN reader.
Muzan hates that you eat foods which churn his stomach; sickeningly sweet or repulsive savory scents which his body rejects. He still sits with you though, his throat closing while you devour the meals he enjoyed in another life. He tries not to remember those years. And yet, his heart squeezes as he tastes the foods' flavor in your kiss, and he's never sure if it's caused by the echo of comfort from his mortal years, or simply the softness of your lips beneath his.Ā
Muzan hates your compulsion to help. That you expend your energy and use your strength to assist others, leaving yourself exhausted. It's pointless; a weakness he wishes he could shake out of you. Instead he simply lies beside you as you sleep and recover, despising that you can't seem to say no to the demands of your human conscience.Ā
Muzan hates that he can see traces of the sun on your skin; dark tones, freckles, sunburn. It reminds him of what he can't have, a freedom he is denied. It's the price he pays for power. He kisses each freckle with desperation, as if he can erase the sun's touch from your skin. You belong with him in darkness, yet he sends you out each day to walk in the light, knowing you'll return after sundown and he can bask in your glow.Ā
Muzan hates the little lines at the corners of your eyes and across your brow; the signs of aging. He can see you decaying before his very eyes and knows there will be a time you go where he refuses to follow.Ā Every second you slip a little farther away from him, despite growing closer as the days go by.
Muzan hates your laugh. He hates that you find amusement in simple things, that happiness comes so easy to you even if it's only fleeting. How can you be happy? You're dying.Ā
Muzan hates that the only solution is to turn you, to transform you into a demon and have you at his side for eternity. But then⦠you wouldn't be you. Your flaws, your fragility, your tender human heart, they would all be gone. He can't lose that.
Muzan hates that he cares about any of this. He's betrayed by his quickening pulse, his relief and comfort at seeing you, and the intrusive thought that perhaps he should bid farewell to his immortality when you are inevitably taken from him.
And Muzan hates that you know all of this, that he sees the adoration and the apology in your eyes. Your love is devastating, painful, and fleeting, and there's nothing he can do to stop you slipping from his grasp.

This is Kaori, sheās the Hidden Wood (Kobayashi clan) village doctor and the first wife to the clan leader Jiro Kobayashi. Her personality is quite timid but she is very stubborn when she wants to. Her work with medicine and herbs is unmatched to anyone, her passione to help people comes off as healing to the point the marking on her forehead appeared after her patients are properly nursed back to health.
But due to her patients being healed from even the most life threatening condition she was seen as a witch in her old village and was treated so poorly that she was banished from the village. When she stumbled upon the Hidden Wood village she healed an injured bear and it guided her into the village. The elders saw that she was no threat and had them tended to an injured Jiro. Once nursed back to health they fell in love and got married. He gifted her that hair pin she wears.
Jiro also has two other wives, after marrying Kaori he marries Tenshi who was a fellow hashira that he met through his sister Akira and lastly the women he was formerly engaged to named Ares. Who unfortunately got married by Tengen after Jiro called it off due to a family crisis.

"What if Tomioka killed Nezuko?"
I wanted to try editing Tanjiro and since I like him with long hair in episode 1 I did this too :)
⢠He's blind from one eye because Nezuko scratched his face when attacking him.
⢠He wears Nezuko's hair tie as a bracelet.
⢠Always wears his hair in a loose ponytail, but sometimes put his hair down when resting.
⢠Tanjiro have nightmares every night so he has some trouble sleeping.
⢠Became a demon slayer to avenge his whole family being killed and to prevent other people to lose their families too.
Summery- Where they a virgin when they where humans? are they still ?
Genre- Smut. MDNI
Warnings- Talks of sex, masturbation.
Human Muzan
Was a virgin- He didnāt get married. He had a wealthy family but never found a wife. He was born with a frail body so even if he did have a wife-he couldn't. Or at least it would be very bad experience putting sex off for him. Although he never had a big ādesireā to have sex- he still was curious about it and often masturbated as a human.
Demon Muzan
Not a virgin- Don't really need to explain- but he's had sex a lot. He likes it, but can live without it. He has other things to focus on so he doesn't seek sex a lot. Sex does come naturally to him though anyway. He's a 'young' good looking man after all. Who often manipulates women and people to get what he wants. If he has to play Husband and a Oiran, he will.
He has also had sex in his female form.
Human Kokushibo
Not a virgin-His first and last was with his wife. He had a duty as a man to produce heirs and that was it to him. He did like sex, but was very insecure. He was emotionally unavailable I suppose, and never expressed himself.
Demon kokushibo
Virgin. He remembers his past life and know how sex works, but he doesnāt see humans as equals- only as cattle. Heās not opposed to it though, heās seen plenty of humans that are pleasing to the eye and would like to indulge in. But never acted on it.
Human Douma
Not a virgin. Was never married or had plans to - but he was good looking and had different features that made him more 'exotic' so a lot of people where curious, and so was he. He didn't have a lot of sex due to being so busy - only problem he faced was that people fell in love with him after they had sex. He never felt that.
Daemon Douma
Not a virgin. He has toyed with men and women and finds it entertaining, plus it does feels good. People who have had sex with him don't really live to tell anyone else. There are a few who live. Doesn't actively seek sex but he can tell when a humans wants him. He will also use the art of seduction to get what he wants too.
Human Akaza
Virgin. He was planning on marring Koyuki and was waiting for their special night. He never thought he would- having tattoos of a criminal over his body has made him feel worthless so he had a lot of doubt about finding love. Him and Koyuki had kissed a lot but that's as far as it went.
Demon Akaza
Double virgin. He never feels the desire for sex. He only wants to get stronger. All he does is follows Muzans orders, train and eat.
Human Hantengu
Not a virgin- Has had wife's. No idea if any kids have come out of it but there where attempts.
Demon Hantengu
Virgin? Maybe the lust clone has had sex but the other clones and himself? Virgins.
Human Gyokko
Virgin
Demon Gyokko
DOUBLE VIRGIN
Human Gyutaro
Virgin. Women would scream at the sight of him. Not only because he was ugly but had bad hygiene, malnourished and weak. He was fighting everyday of his life. Never thought about it.
Demon Gyutaro
Virgin. Only as a demon he got curious and had the desire for it, he hasn't tried to have sex cause he know he will just get laughed at which will result in someone's death.
Human Nakime
Not a virgin. She had a husband in her human life but never had kids with him.
Demon Nakime
Virgin. Doesn't have the desire to have sex.
