roma has the charm of a shibe that DOESN'T want to go on a walk anymore, and you gotta pull his collar and his face scrunches up and you gotta drag him and his stupid little scrunched face along. roma has the charm of a husky that's like. sitting in the car and REFUSES to get out no matter how many times you tell him its time to get out and he's just staring at you in that knowing husky way because you BOTH KNOW!!! HE'S NOT MOVING AND YOU CAN'T CONVINCE HIM TO LEAVE THIS CAR WITHOUT MAJOR INCENTIVE despite YOU KNOWING YOU CAN'T LEAVE THIS HUSKY IN THE HOT CAR.

Roma has the charm of a young person who hasn't experienced the world latching onto some niche detail and being SO CONVINCED of this little thing's GREAT IMPORTANCE that when you mention that this thing is alright HE'S SO BEWILDERED? like what do you MEAN you don't think guardians of the galaxy is PEAK CINEMA... and is just SOO passionate about this random mainstream thing because that's all he's experienced ... and has convinced himself that YOURE the strange one about all this

Roma has the charm of a cat that brings dead birds and mice and lizards into your house that theyve hunted and then MEOW SO LOUDLY AFTER THEYVE HUNTED THEM!!!! and these little corpses are just SO NASTY but your cat is so damn PROUD

roma is very stubborn and rude and annoying but he means everything he says and everything he does 100% and that's a part of his charm!!!! all the bad parts and all the good parts he will own up to completely and while he ends up grating at a lot of people i think there's something to his naked earnestness and honesty that's always on display. he's a stinky, willful dog and everything that comes with it!!!!

One of roma's deep core beliefs is that the world is full of Beasts, and when Beasts are hungry, they Hunt. All Beasts Hunger, without exception. When Hunting, the strong crush the weak and then then everyone who isn't strong must Struggle or Die.

It's very defeatist, and he believes in this in both a neutral and negative way, in that while he's accepted many ... systems isn't the word he'd use, but that's basically what it is, in the world operate like this, roma is still sometimes Soooo bitter about it because. he doesn't consider himself one of the Strong, and while struggling is an Option, Struggling Sucks Ass. Being Prey Sucks Ass. Being Weak Sucks Fucking Ass. And he carried SOOO much anger and bitterness about it because he Knew there weren't folks who weren't struggling and being a person who Used To Be A Part Of A Human Family, roma Knew things didn't have to be this way But They Were And No One Was Helping Him.

I dont think that anger is gone when he talks with VR, but I think that his anger is part and parcel with how much he loves VR. Roma adores VR because he has a certain understanding of how shit and hard things can be and he's SO happy VR does actions that go against the weird cycle of the world, so if VR were to abandon the morals that roma Assumed VR had and loves so much, I dont think it'd be hard for roma to key back into his anger and be So reckless about it, bc the origin of love and anger are the same thing in him

WAIT i can talk about secret character lore bc none of party is on tumblr

one thing i Do Think About is that roma's big backstory secret is tl;dr that he was a cannibal for a little while, like hunting and killing actual people, and then VR saved him and he stopped being a cannibal and awful person bc the rescue was so affecting, but recently the party came across a diary where VR was talking about. killing All The Vistani bc he was aggrieved over his dead son and inwardly roma was like :) you're not allowed to do this and then yelled at vr to not do this

but if there ever came a point where VR didn't back down on doing that i imagine that roma would spiral So Hard... like mileage may vary but roma would do his best to Be The Monster Van Richten Told Him Not To Be

Character Mannerisms

Here’s some considerations for the tiny little details that can add a lot to a character. Figuring out these mannerisms can do a lot for conveying character traits through their normal actions rather than just their thoughts, dialogue, etc.

How’s their posture? There are more options than just sitting up straight or slouching a lot. What’s their most comfortable sitting position? Do they have a consistent posture or does it change depending on situation / present company? 

How’s their etiquette? Do they hold the door for people behind them? How do they handle handshakes and other kinds of typical contact? Does their language change or become more formal when speaking to strangers? To their elders? To their superiors? 

In a crowded space, do they get out of people’s way, or do people get out of THEIR way? 

How do they point something out? Pointing their finger? Nodding their head? A flippant wave of the hand?

What are their comfort gestures or self-touch gestures? Common comfort gestures include rubbing the back of the neck or gripping their own arms. Can they suppress these gestures or do they do them often?

Also consider the character’s common reactions to common emotions. Do they whoop when they’re excited? Do they tremble when angry? 

What parts of the body are the most expressive? Do they shuffle and stomp their feet a lot when agitated or excited? Are they a hand talker? Do they have an impressive range of motion with their eyebrows?

How do they sound? Do their car keys jingle as they walk? Do they drag their feet? Do their heels clack resoundingly on hard floors? Do they breathe loudly? Do they fidget in ways that make a lot of noise?

How do they handle eye contact?

Any behaviors they reserve for moments when they’re alone? (Or possibly among family/friends that don’t care?) Do they pick their nose? Do they bite their toenails? Do they sniff their armpits? Or do they not care if people see behavior like this?

Apart from comfort gestures, what else do they do to comfort themselves in trying times? What’s their go-to self care? What’s their comfort food? Where’s their safe space?

What are they doing with themselves as they’re suppressing emotion? Lip biting, fist clenching, and avoiding eye contact are common methods of coping with strong emotions.
