Peter who’s never really been able to date because of his powers but tried not to talk about it because he’s insecure about it, and finds it embarrassing.

Virgin Peter who can’t even remember the last time he was kissed.

Peter who’s romantically and sexually stunted and knows it’s not healthy to get his emotional fulfillment from rom coms and books but that’s all he can do.

Peter who’s so naïve romantically, sexually. He knows of the horrors of this world and the universe but doesn’t know when he’s getting played.

Peter who gets so love sick with his crushes. Who yearns so badly, who can act on it for one reason or another but it’s so, so obvious. The wide eyes and loving looks, the sweet softness in his voice.

And the team knows it well by now, the phases of a Peter Parker super crush. The build up, when it hasn’t hit him yet but they’re watching him fall. The “she’s so nice” “he looks different, did he get a haircut?” “He’s so funny” phase. Then the crush itself. The crush that only grows deeper and deeper. The soft sighs, the head on his hand. The puppy dog eyes. The ‘obsession’. Maybe it’s brutal to call it that, but he becomes absorbed. And then the break. He realizes it’ll never happen and it breaks. And he’s sad, he’s mopey, little gives him joy. It’s an honest to god depression.

And when his newest crush is on Bucky, well. People talk. It’s the talk of the tower. It’s patronizing towards Peter and he doesn’t appreciate it.

Bucky noticed. Sure. Peter got more present. He’s everywhere suddenly. He’s sweeter, as if he wasn’t already the sweetest thing. He’s so obvious. Bucky can’t not notice it, even if he doesn’t acknowledge it more than a soft smile and a kind word.

Peters his friend- he’s all of their friend. And he’s the only one who seems to remember that fact right now.

It’s tactless, it’s disrespectful and worst of all it’s unkind. And he’s comfortable telling everyone to shut the fuck up about it.

The problem is, Peter’s thing… it’s working on him. Not that he can say it.

Bucky’s in the gym. It’s a hell of a gym in the tower. Sure weights aren’t doing a damn thing for half of them, but the facilities are immense. Super-heavy bags that he won’t knock off their stand, expansive facilities for sparring and mobility work and drills. There’s also a lovely meditation and yoga room.

And Bucky finally snaps one day in their little meditation circle. Some of them with… foggier brains like to meet regularly, meditate and commissariate. It’s a big group.

And Peter, sweet Peter, walks past the glass walled room on his way to the bags and grins and waves, sweet genuine Peter.

And that’s when the comments start. And Bucky’s had enough.

“Where are you going, Barnes?”

“To ask Peter out and shut everyone the fuck up” he grumbled.
