fuck it various sly character's handwriting / how they'd sign they're names. sly, bentley and murray's are based on their canon handwriting. i feel like penelope would have big round messy handwriting. carmelita has scrawly but pretty cursive but signs her name like a doctor. dimitri presented without comment (full view for better quality bc tumblr is terrible)
(my 12748 unfinished projects watching me do this: *shocked pikachu*)
"I want to know more about Penelope's past, before the Black Baron. Would she be an orphan, or would her Dutch mouse parents still be around? Would they be supportive of their little girl genius, or worried sick?"

Bentley’s First Mission (Disco Demolitions) Appreciation Post
Sly: How’re you holding up out there in the field?
Bentley (obviously not fine voice): Fine, fine…I’m just fine.
One of my favorite Sly 2 missions is Disco Demoltions, because it’s at once adorable and just so funny. And BEAUTIFUL just look at the pretty colors and all the neat design details, like how the spiral in the middle of the dance floor is designed to look like Dmitri’s tail! But a Sly Cooper Trilogy level being Really Pretty is sorta just…that’s just how Sly Cooper Trilogy levels be
This mission is the first time you ever play as Bentley. But if you’re an 8-year-old who’s nervous about playing as Bentley–it’s his first real solo mission, so Bentley is also very nervous about playing as Bentley!
It takes place in a building Specifically Designed to make Bentley uncomfortable. If someone asked you “where would a nerdy awkward turtle feel like he Really Does Not Belong” the correct answer would be “the dance floor of a funky disco.” Like… imagine how much this mission’s tone would Not Work if it took place anywhere else…it wouldn’t be hilariously anxious/awkward if you were bombing Dmitri’s wine cellar. It HAS to be a disco dance floor
Your goal is to bomb the pillars and shake the disco ball loose. But this nightclub isn’t guarded by the little guards, but by the Giant Scary Flashlight Guards™– who tiny Bentley stands no chance against in a fight. And because there’s basically nowhere to run you have to sleep-dart them before they catch you or you’re pretty much dead.
But if you miss a sleep-dart shot/misplace a bomb, the Giant Scary Guard™ will spot you… so the mission is always one tiny mistake away from disaster. If you have bad aim/have never done it before (like if you’re a kid playing the game for the first time) a Giant Scary Guard™ WILL catch you and you will have to frantically RUN and BOMB and RUN!!! It’s a series of nerve-wracking explosions and “I GOtta hURRY and BOMb him BEFORE HE WAKES UP” as Bentley’s gameplay animation looks utterly anxious and terrified….
But
But all the while that funky disco music is playing
So its like.
BLAM! BOMB EXPLOSION! (Guard shoots you, Bentley screams) *funky nightclub music goes ‘’Ooh-OOOOOOOOOOH”*
“Are you sure she can keep up with Murray?”
Time for Act 2. This covers several missions. Oh, and Penelope is now fully playable. She's seated between Sly and Bentley. I'm giving her those Morph Wrenches I previously talked about. She also has a title: The Wild Card.
With the threat of the Robo-Cooper Gang looming, our heroes agree that solo missions are temporarily off-limits. They will now only go out in pairs or as a group of four... at least until those robots bite the dust.
Most of the gang's missions revolve around shutting down charging stations for the Robo-Cooper Gang.
Penelope is put to work very soon after her reinstatement. While she does pull more than her fair share of weight, it's clear there's something seriously wrong with her. She refuses to elaborate whenever the boys try to ask her.
Bentley is especially concerned, but incredibly proud of his girlfriend for her enduring loyalty. He's fallen in love all over again, doting on her every chance he gets.
Robo-Penelope becomes quite the thorn in our heroes' side, especially Penelope's. The latter sees the former as a very personal enemy, jumping at any chance to take her impostor down. She even manages to save Bentley from the robot's wrath at least once.
As for Sly and Murray...
Sly now feels bad about ditching everyone back at Kaine Island, and has even apologized to Penelope for doing so.
Murray is happy to have his younger sister back. He now refuses to call her anything other than "Sis".
With the Robo-Cooper Gang now severely weakened, our heroes are ready to scrap their impostors.
Final act coming soon.
I want to believe Penelope was kidnapped and impersonated. She still designed the blimp. Her impostor (an evil robot) did everything else. Even her motive was fabricated.
Here's something that could happen in Sly 5.
When the boys (Sly, Bentley, and Murray) eventually find out and take her back, she's going to be a guilt-ridden mess hell-bent on destroying her impostor and her creator for breaking Bentley's heart and making everyone hate her, with several measures of self-loathing for nearly doing the same thing herself.
The reunion scene would need to happen early in the episode in which this story takes place, during the second mission, and no later. That way, the player can get used to her being fully playable for the first time ever before the boss fight.
All three boys, while elated to have Penelope back, will quickly notice that something is seriously wrong with her. They think her impostor did everything, including designing the blimp. When they ask her what's wrong, she refuses to elaborate.
Bentley is especially concerned, but incredibly proud of his reinstated girlfriend for her enduring loyalty.
Cue Penelope pulling her weight several times over during her return episode and defeating her impostor, only to be consumed by all the guilt and confess to none other than Bentley about her treachery by the end. The only thing she doesn't reveal is her motive, saying it doesn't matter because what she did was wrong.
And because I love a good, happy ending, she will be forgiven. She's already spent the entire episode proving herself in spades. As for Sly and Murray's reactions? I'll leave that for you to decide. Would Sly drive himself crazy over not knowing her motive? I think he might.
I realize she will need a very sympathetic motive for this idea to work.
I couldn't resist.
Penelope is going to go through a lot in this story. While simultaneously keeping a dark secret of betrayal, she learns to like Sly, Bentley, and Murray all over again.
She ends up having a change of heart, and finally starts to see the boys as her family... only for Le Paradox's reveal at the end of Episode 5 to nearly rip that away from her, and right when their trust in her is at an all time high.
Because the fun stuff is in the later episodes.
I'm still working on Paris. Just... at a slower rate than before.
Do you have any Ideas for Murray's character development?
As I already said in multiple posts, Murray won’t have much of an arc to go through. He’s more focused on being a good older brother towards Penelope, or “Sis” as he always calls her.
My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.
Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?
What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?
Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.
