until we get a sequel sly 4 isn’t canon
"boy drama" HSHDJSK yeah i love the idea of penelope and murray being Bros just chilling and ignoring everything lmfao. like i get why we didn't (time, pacing etc... bah) but i really wish we got more of the extended gang just hanging out (tm). i can see penelope just being just down for tinkering w cool shit and having a good time w her new pals. and being totally oblivious to bentley's thirsting for her (kinda links in to me reading her as some kinda neurodivergent ig? i've said it before and i'll say it again but creating and maintaining an entire alter ego in order to get past age restrictions/implied gender bias and dominate the field of your hobby is absolute TOP tier nd girlboss energy)
trust one of my main issues with Sly 3 is how it's a game all about assembling a gang of thieves but benches them completely for almost its entirety. like i get wanting to roam the hubs as Penelope, Guru or PK whenever might be unreasonable to ask for (i guess?), but not having them around at all in the safehouse is such a bizarre choice. and the idea of having Penelope tinkering on gadgets in the back is perfect bestie
even looking past this, the cutscene sections of the gang hanging out together are so limited. we're mostly treated to them traveling in their silly goofy disguises (which ok, iconic). give me Sly 1 end of episode cutscenes, where the gang just idk has fun. give me Penelope beating the boys at their videogames
I know, this one's a bit overdone.
I’m gonna challenge myself by attempting to do something for every day of @felicity-the-cat ‘s SlyTember challenge
Here’s my entry for day Twenty Six (Daydream)
I know it’s late. But I drew this thing. So I figured I might as well post it
This was based on the cutscene where Sly says that seeing what Bentley&Penelope had made him want to take his relationship with Carmelita to the next level
So far, I'm only still at the first episode of Sly 2, but It's impressive how much Sly Cooper 2 feel like the natural growth of the characters.
Sly 1 is a "beginner" thief that rush into his ennemy's lair with barelly any preparation, coming up with plans on the fly.
Sly 2 is about an experience Thief that reworked his methods. Now, his companions are much more involved in the operations. Now he carefully stake out and test the security before going for his target. He knows all the importants move of the thievus racoonus.
My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.
Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?
What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?
Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.
Yes, Thieves In Time Redux is still in the works.
Yes, it is incredibly challenging to write.
No, I'm not looking forward to writing the villains' dialogue. Or the ancestors. The worst part is improvising their existing lines from the vanilla game. And giving them new lines.
sly cooper gijinkas bc brain rot is real
I wanted to talk about the gameplay end of the fight scene. Remember how the vanilla boss fight was mostly QTEs? We'll only be seeing QTEs in the first and final phases.
The first phase, of course, has Penelope fighting Le Paradox, in an attempt to redeem herself.
As the fight progresses, the button commands increase in difficulty until they eventually become impossible for a human to complete. When that happens, Sly will join the fight and begin Phase 2.
You'll take control of Sly, Bentley, Murray, and Carmelita one after the other (in that order) as they enter the fight. No, you won't get to control the ancestors when they join in.
The final phase has you controlling Penelope again as she restarts her duel with Le Paradox. More QTEs follow, but now they're easier as our heroine gives her speech on what she learned about friendship.
Sly 3 Screencap re-draw
I just dug up one of my first attempts at humanizing the Sly Cooper cast because it fits in with the current “Re-Draw a screen cap” trend.
Basically, I wanted to see how well my humanized versions worked within the context of an actual scene from the game. I also tweeked it to focus more on the characters than the background (that’s why the drawing cuts off the vault and shows Bentley & Penelope’s faces)
