Some proof that there ARE elected officials out there, like Vice Mayor Sean Cummings in Oklahoma, who are standing up for LGBTQ+ youth like Nex Benedict and calling out the fact that our words and rhetoric DO matter.
[Context: In this video, Sean Cummings is seen speaking to Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters referring to the death of student Nex Benedict].

Edit: I see this post is popping off again, thank you for sharing! Reminder to our youth watching this video (operationally defined as those 14-25), @bfpnola is an international, Black-, queer-, woman-, and youth-run organization. We’d love to have some new volunteers, especially from Oklahoma in particular because we don’t have any! If you’d just like to meet everyone first, this is our Discord Server. Why not start there and then you can decide? 🫂
i am once again asking you to support and donate to freedom oaklahoma, a native-based organization for trans and gay rights in the same state nex benedict was murdered.
Oklahoma is attempting to pass a bill that would ban explicit romance novels. Authors, narrators, and sellers could all face fines of up to $100,000 and up to 10 years in jail for each instance.
If you live in OK, call your representative and tell them this bill should not be allowed to pass.
This is likely a test case. Republicans will try to pass it in OK and if it passes other states will likely try to pass similar laws.
In the meantime, get physical copies of books you like. Download those pdfs. Archive your AO3 stories and keep them on a physical hard drive. (Storing those files in the cloud could be problematic in the future as the company managing the cloud service can see what your files are)

Iowa's governor signed a bill that makes discrimination against LGBTQ+ folks legal by removing them as a protected class. This is the first state to do so and sadly we will likely see other states follow suit.

Uk peeps!! Let’s get this going! 🏳️⚧️🇬🇧
Signatures on this petition to defend trans freedom are crawling up, but very slowly. Please sign and share,
With all the bad news happening in the world, here's something good:
Two trans democrats in the Montana House of Representatives gave some very powerful and emotional speeches about 2 bills. One was to effectively ban drag and the other would have granted CPS the ability ro remove trans kids from parents.
These dems were able to get 29 Republicans to flip and vote against these bills. In a deeply red state they were able to protect the rights and lives of transgender individuals.
It's always possible. Making connections with people and getting to know them as they get to know you is the best way to broaden everyone's mind. To create empathy and a community. It may be hard, but it is possible to change people's minds. To get them to see you as human.
Oh no. MAGA is mad that the NYT shared the names of DOGE staffers. Don’t share this! Would be a shame

Al Green protested against a tyrannical man. That man was trying to take away the Healthcare of millions of people and Al Green was the one Democrat who cared enough to do something and make a stand.
For that, he was censured. What's worse is some of his own party voted with Republicans to censure him. Some of his own party didn't have the guts or morals to stand up for what's right.
Is someone on this list your representative? Call them. Tell them how disappointed you are. How angry you are that they sided against people. Against healthcare. Against the last few democratic representatives willing to make a stand.

Tonight House Republicans voted 217 to 215 for a budget that'll take $1 TRILLION dollars from Medicaid, attack food benefits for kids, hurt seniors and vets.
but I don't want to talk about that, I want to talk about these two Democratic members of Congress you've never ever heard of.
Democrats, Congressman Kevin Mullin of California and Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen of Colorado.
Congressman Mullin had knee surgery that didn't go well, two surgeries, a life threatening blood clot and a week long stay in the hospital, and the moment he was discharged from the hospital he got on a five hour flight to DC to vote against the Republicans evil budget, using a walker to get to the floor of the House
Congresswoman Pettersen gave birth to her son Sam, in the picture, exactly one month ago on January 25th. They flew from Colorado to DC after Republicans refused to allow her to vote by proxy after having a baby. Congresswoman Pettersen took Sam onto the floor of the House to vote to protect the Health care of 400,000 Colorado kids.
why talk about this? because so much of the conversion is about telling people there's no one good, no one worthy, no one fighting. I promise you there are people undergoing personal hardship to do the right thing.
First it was members of congress, now it's judges. The trump administration can't get any of their unconstitutional orders through without resorting to threats of violence.
Some judges have required extra security because of rulings made against the current administration. They wanted to uphold the constitution and people's freedoms and are now being punished for it.

This is fraudulent accounting and will make things look better than they actually are. Changes in taxes, deficits, and spending affect the overall economy and excluding these will make things look better than they actually are. These changes trump wants to make are likely due to the first quarter being on track for negative growth, typically a sign of an economic decline.
This is a direct attack on the First Amendment. A lot of universities are going to use this as an excuse to crack down on campus protesting.
If you are a professor, make sure your students are informed of what's going on.
If you graduated from college already, send a message to your alma matar letting them know you stand with students and their right to protest.
And if you are a student, don't stop voicing your opinions. Don't stop protesting. Students have led a lot of protests throughout history, and those protests have helped make policy changes. Don't ever stop being awesome.

This is a reminder that march 7-14 is an amazon blackout. Don't buy from Amazon during this time. Your money has power. YOU have power. When we work together we can show that the actions of this government and companies supporting it are unacceptable.
We demand change.
Tell everyone you know. Support local and small businesses where you can. Support minority businesses. We CAN make a difference.
