I see Alfred as being more informed by his interactions with his states, sometimes cities, and also with Indigenous nations.

This is not to say that his interactions with European nations are unimportant especially his interactions with Arthur, Francis, or Ivan.

But when I look at US history, I understand the creation of the US as:

1. An agreement of states, who viewed themselves more of as nations, to form the United States. Before he can even begin to try and sway Francis to helping him in his revolution, he needs to convince his states to join him first, and not all of them were eager for Revolution. Especially given the fact, these British colonies operated differently from one another and were culturally distinct because they operated under salutary neglect (AKA Arthur wasn’t super present cause he was constantly getting involved in wars & was cash-strapped)

2. The US being a settler colonial state used war against Indigenous nations to expand its borders through violence.

I find this second point is lost on the fandom especially in narratives regarding American expansion, but also the American Revolution. It always irks me a bit to see the American Revolution as describes as Alfred’s first war, when it wouldn’t have been, especially if you are assuming he’s existed prior to the revolution. There were many different wars even prior to the revolution with Indigenous nations involved.

There were also many European wars with North American theaters — the French and Indian War which is the Seven Year’s War was the precursor to the revolution. Actually lol the amount of European wars with North American theaters did influence this push for isolationism (as in from Europe) following the revolution.

Anyways this confusing ramble is to say, I find the overemphasis on Alfred’s relationship to European nations like Arthur, or Francis, tends to gloss over the settler-colonial violence in North America due to European colonization. Also I find ignoring, or stating Alfred’s first war as being the revolution a bit…icky ? In the sense that it’s like people do not seem to view Indigenous nations as sovereign of the settler colonial state thus they’re not viewing the wars between indigenous nations and the settler colonial state as not being “true” wars as they view wars between the US & European nations.

I also find the fandom tends to just generalize the US as being broadly English in nature, and fails to further examine regional English identities that but also non-English identities that later come form various different cultural groups in different US states. And idk this also leads me into another conversation of why I’m not a fan of like putting a lot of different identities especially marginalized ones into Alfred’s character but that opens another can of worms that I do not wish to open right now LOL.

also this goes without saying, but im not saying you have to agree with me, nor am I saying if you never had this thought you’re like bad or whatever, I’m just stating my views lol

⠀⠀⠀about the Mugen train movie , there is one detail that I couldn't stop thinking of . you know that part when they get into the main characters' subconscious ? Tanjiro's subconscious is extremely clear and peaceful , but Rengoku's was endless fire and unbreathable air , as well as a covered sky . so i immediately thought , there is just so much that he is repressing . as fiery , passionate and kind he may seem on the outside , i think that there is a lot of clash between what he wants to be / show and how he feels ; as much as he doesn't want to ,

i'm pretty sure that the abuse of his father has affected him deeply . perhaps is it that he also possesses the same capacity to anger and be harsh with his words , but refuses to act as such , and instead chooses a different front .

but that inevitably creates inner turmoil since there is conflict . the inability to reconcile how he feels with what he is , following duty instead of heart ; and the fact that there is so much at stake and so much out of his control . especially that he is still desperately searching for his father's approval , which never truly comes .

there is so much that he has to protect , so much that his own heart comes last . and all the fire surrounding him is inevitably burning him inside .

i just thought it was a very interesting detail and i really wanted to comment on that . .

fire can be a good thing , it is warm and passionate ; but fire burns too . and his subconscious just seemed to be very far from tranquil . and i can only imagine that if rengoku were to truly snap , it wouldn't be pretty . he may even mirror his father's actions and words , and that , he would absolutely hate himself for .

a thing to explore . . 👁️

hey btw intermixed with all the hurt and love I feel for Kyojuro is bitter, bitter rage. he left Senjuro alone in that house with their abusive dad. he told Tanjiro to become like him. give up everything you have to serve the greater good, like he did. fail to see your own human life as precious and worthy of protection, like he did.

i understand completely how Kyojuro's past shaped him into who he became, and I love him anyway, I love him because of a lot of it. on some level, I admire the sacrifice he made. but the hypocrisy is glaring and the void he left behind chills to the bone.

What it's like being roommates with Jeff, Ben, and Toby in a dingy apartment headcanons (platonic)

• Ben would nag you to play video games with him but if he lost he'll get pissed and go in the game and hack it

• Eye drops all over the apartment since Jeff leaves them everywhere and keeps losing it

• Toby and Jeff would try and attempt to cook something. You have to supervise them while they are testing out this waffle maker

• They stuffed it with hot dogs and eggs it wasn't half bad solid meal

• You brought your date around the house, beforehand you had to force them to clean the whole place

• Ben shoved all his crap in cabinets and drawers

• Jeff didn't do shit and made more mess

• Toby is the only one who helped but not without complaining the whole time

• Once you and your date came over it was dead silent, no one in sight. You guys were sitting in the living room chatting when the tv turned on by itself

• Oh you knew what was coming suddenly Ben pops out of the tv and crawls out of it. Your date never went there again

• Every time you bring your date over they take turns scaring the shit out of them and track it down on the scoreboard score. Whoever has more scares wins

• When you came home upset from whatever happened they tried comforting you.

• They ended up stealing money from a store and y'all spent it all shopping

• Everyone has mood swings so you'll hear shouting here and there

• Music blasting at 3 am from jeff's room

• Bribe eachother with chores or blackmail

• Jeff and Toby sometimes bans Ben from video games cause he usually cheats

• Ben and Jeff were play fighting. Jeff got too carried away and accidentally stabbed Ben. Toby called you to go home and deal with them

• Go yell at Ben to take a shower

• If you're going through something and too tired to do chores they'll do it instead

• You all got pet fish but it died a week later. Ben tried giving them Monster

• You once bought one of those cold cases murder mystery to play it with them not even 15 mins in and they got it right. They bet whoever solves it first doesn't have to do any chores and sore losers has to pay for food and do everything in the apartment

• Whenever you play jazz they pretend to be in a horror movie to freak you out

• When you all watch a horror movie they'll be very sarcastic and exaggerate their reactions

• You blackmailed all of them to dress like the heathers and they blackmail you to be their Veronica

• Whenever you would play video games Ben would randomly pop up in there and give you a jump scare

• You joked to them about them being your guard dogs so when you went out they started barking at everything you never made that joke again

• They purposely piss you off by taking your words literally "What? you told me to piss off"

• Your date just sees three scary looking men behind you without you knowing

• Ben and you have moments where you laugh at nothing
