I’m gonna be sharing my Owl House Wips and Aus for a while now that it’s over and I’m definitely hyper fixating on them.

Open Portal Au

Luz, her sister Vee, and their childhood friend Hunter end up exploring an old house that was said to have belonged to a “witch” many years ago and a number of people went missing in it too. While both Luz and Vee could only hope it was haunted, Hunter was more hoping it was just empty. Not that he was scared per say, but his dad did want him back in time for dinner and he wasn’t sure if any ghosts would be fine with them just saying hi and bye like the girls insisted.

Though what they find instead of ghosts happens to be a portal to a demon realm they never knew existed.

Hunter, Vee, and Darius are all human. Hunter was adopted by Darius and Vee was adopted by Camila.

I really would’ve made all three of them siblings but I still wanted Dadrius.

Also Masha is a witch.

The Owl House Timeline

-Millennia Ago; The Archivists encounter the Demon Realm and send the Collector to play with the young Titans; The Collector meets the Titan known as the Boiling Isles, and comes across King’s egg; The Archivists commence a war against the Titans, who resist their attempts to turn every living thing into scrolls; Due to Titan magic countering their own, the Archivists enlist the help of the local demons, Bill among them, and create the Titan Trappers; An Archivist transforms the Owl Beast into a scroll, only to lose it in the ocean; The Boiling Isles Titan hides King on a remote island, shielded from the view of Archivists, and appoints Jean-Luc as the guardian.

-The Collector is imprisoned in the in-between by the Boiling Isles, who is the last Titan alive; Hooty comes into existence after this during a hunt; The Archivists disappear from the isles; The Titan blows out Bill’s eardrums in a final battle against the Titan Trappers; The Titan escapes to the other side of the planet and ‘dies’, but due to her heart still beating, lingers as a ghost watching from the in-between; Bill communicates with the Collector using one of the moon discs, worshipping them as the Grand Huntsman, only to lose contact when the disc is broken; The Titan Trappers find the Boiling Isles, but are unable to locate King’s egg to free the Collector; Bill’s generation eventually dies out until he is the only one left, leading new generations of wannabe Titan Trappers; Hooty leaves the Boiling Isles’ eye.

-Hecktaceous Period; A Stonesleeper is transported to the Titan’s skull and placed as guardian; Luz Noceda briefly visits through a time pool.

-Witches and demons evolve from the Titan’s corpse; They initially learn glyphs by communicating with the Titan’s spirit on her knee, but eventually rely on their bile sacs instead.

-Thousands of Years Ago; The Bat Queen is carved and abandoned by her owner, a giant, after being wounded; She begins looking after other mistreated palismen in solidarity.

-Circa 1600s; The Deadwardian Era begins.

-1613; Young orphans Philip and Caleb Wittebane arrive in Old Gravesfield.

-Evelyn Clawthorne and Flapjack enter the human realm using an archway powered by Titan’s blood, and befriend a teenage Caleb; Evelyn and Caleb communicate using hidden rebuses, and a vial of Titan’s blood is buried outside the archway in Gravesfield.

-As an adult, Caleb moves to the Boiling Isles’ right arm with Evelyn permanently, marrying her. Philip enters the Boiling Isles through Eclipse Lake, emerging at the Knee, and discovers the Ice glyph.

-Circa May 21st, 16XX; Philip begins writing a journal documenting his journey in the Demon Realm.

-Five years after his arrival, Philip returns to Eclipse Lake and retrieves Titan’s Blood to build a Portal back home, emerging the only survivor; Philip absorbs Palismen essence, beginning his curse and slowing his aging; Philip reunites with Caleb, killing him and being chased off by a pregnant Evelyn; Philip discovers the Plant and Fire glyphs.

-1635; New Gravesfield is founded, replacing the town’s older layout.

Damm, I wish too to get more fallen allies.

Let’s be honest, everyone wants that XD

Destiny 2 Has Been My Main Game At The Moment, And Every Time I See The Fallen I Think About How Cool
Destiny 2 Has Been My Main Game At The Moment, And Every Time I See The Fallen I Think About How Cool

Destiny 2 has been my main game at the moment, and every time I see the Fallen I think about how cool their designs are, so I decided to make a female character design that would seem lore-friendly, As you can tell I really enjoyed putting time into this and I would like to try and do more, Her trait is that she’s obsessed with riches and gold, She would be located somewhere in Tangled Shore as a ally to The Spider, Her bounties would be ways of gaining currency a lot quicker, but unlike The Spider she gives you bounty quests that rewards would be worth it, she even Recycles shaders (it has to match her style)

Destiny Architecture

I went on a whole ramble about the architecture of the various factions in Destiny and thought I'd share it here. I'm not an architect, so my knowledge is basic when it comes to technical things, but hopefully it is interesting!

They did a fantastic job with the architecture of the different factions and what it says about them.

The Red Legion and Caiatl's Ascendency are all pragmatic, organised military designs - fortifications, the round buildings with windows on each side linked by trenches. Watchtowers. In the Arms Dealer strike, you have areas where there are loads of vehicles meticulously organised. They are prepared for the long haul, dug into the planets they land on, and they are proud of their machinery, both literal and metaphorica - it's all on display, the pistons and furnaces and engines. There are service shafts and hangars! It's all very practical (and makes the Glykon even more unnerving because the passages and service shafts don't make any practical sense in the way that they connect!).

Calus on the other hand... the Leviathan has the same base in terms of doors and the like, you can recognise some of the same basics - like the shapes of the doors etc. but the pragmatic things are hidden away - they're reminiscent of the servant quarters in old British stately homes - you need them for the place to function! But the people in charge don't want to see them. Calus wants to be surrounded by gold and riches and luxury and not think about the things and people that make it possible. It's always been something that I've thought of when it comes to his empire – he acts like all of it was a place of luxury and hedonism and art, but like the Roman Empire that inspired the culture, that luxury is truly only available to a few people, and is only possible because a much greater number of people are working to provide the materials and labour. We don't really hear or see much about the people the Empire conquered beyond the Psions, but were they living in such luxury? Probably not.

The Eliskni architecture all feels very cobbled together and makeshift - there are visible seams and bolts, spots where colours don't match. It's makeshift, which suits their history as a people who have been forced to flee and exist on scavenging for a long time. And there's always a lot of nautical theming going on too - rigging and nets and hoisted awnings like sails. They feel like places made by people who are expecting to need to pack up and leave at any minute. Everything tends to be rounded, which is particularly obvious when you see the Devils in Rise of Iron - everything is more angular because of SIVA and the Rasputin influence, even the shanks. I'd love it if we could get a look at the original Riis architecture.

The Hive are very gothic architecture with a dash of Gaudi (take a look at the Sagrada Família for what I'm thinking). High chambered ceilings, flying buttresses, all the carved figures and motifs - except when you get closer you realise that it's also uncomfortably organic. And it's also decaying – once you get inside the dreadnaught especially you find it full of piles of festering debris, wormspore growing from the corpses of thralls. There are spaces where anything could jump out at you. It's like a civilisation mocking the grand architecture of other species by warping it into something rotten (and also very gothic literature as well - the grand imposing gothic mansion with the dark secret and unpleasant history). The names of the locations in the Dreadnaught often tie-in with the architecture since a lot of them are religious: the portico, basillica, the crypts, the Cathedral of Dusk. They are a species worshipping Oryx, the very real and tangible god.

The Moon under Crota has a similar style, but where the Dradnaught is organic, the areas under the surface of the moon (outside the Red Keep) are more technological - there are still the flying buttresses and supports, the spikes and and pillars around the Hellmouth, but they're blockier, less rounded, stone and metal rather than chitin.

Savathun's Throne World has similar architecture, and returns to the organic feel of the Dradnaught, but in blinding white and red rather than browns. It's similar to the Leviathan in a way – the public areas are much cleaner feeling, regal and filled with Light, but when you dig down you can find the same rot and debris as the Dreadnaught (thinking especially of the 2nd mission of the Witch Queen campaign). Where the Dreadnaught was a mockery of other species, the Throne World feels like it's trying to copy them – this is what Savathun thinks the Light is, look she's changed, really! But in the end, it's more like a coat of paint slapped over a wall with a bad mold problem. The names also switch from kind of Catholic, to more magical and alchemical - Apothacary, altars, temples etc.

The Awoken are really doing the whole fantasy elf thing in a lot of ways, but more with stone than woodland than in Tolkien when we see the Dreaming City. Everything fits in seamlessly with the landscape (which makes sense since it was essentially created with wish magic to be exactly what Mara wanted!). The buildings follow the lines of mountains, pathways carved into crystal caves, the bridge which has supports like the branches of trees like they've grown up from the ground. And there's nature everywhere! But it's not a natural environment. Even when it seems like you're in nature, it's very cultivated - like the garden of a stately home which wants 'wilderness' so has landscaped it. It's also deceptive in the way you go from the 'wilderness' to these very high fantasy buildings, and then as you walk you see these technological marvels like the Oracle Engine, just integrated into it. The Dreaming City is very much portraying an image and is a very finely tuned machine in itself. I kind of wonder what the other Awoken settlements beyond the Dreaming City and the Vestian outpost look like.

Clovis Bray facilities are very minimalist and very obviously designed to make you think 'lab' and 'high technology'. He really wants you to see his stuff and have you think 'this is the future' in a way that draws 70s sci-fi ideas of the future - the way all the sharp edges are rounded off, the bright blocks of colour, the way all of the technology is very conspicuously on display, the massive windows that make all the conveyors and machinery visible. He wants to show off his stuff, and also make everyone who works there know that they're being watched. There's also the huge open spaces and massive drops like Eternity and Creation, which are utterly impractical but also feel infinite and are designed to make you go wow.

You see similar architecture on Neomuna (since Clovis was involved with the colonisation efforts) but on a much more human scale. They have a lot of the same components – the pillars and display screens, the curved bases of the walls – but they're softened with plants and murals, places to sit and socialise. It's not a lab, it's a city where people live. And also it's Neptune, they are a long way from the sun, so everything is bright and vibrant to make up for that. I think you can also see a lot of influence from the Ishtar Collective locations on Venus in Neomuna - they also tend to have a lot of display screens and neon and lots of spots for plants to grow. And then you get outside of the City and see the Veil Containment bunker and see the concrete and metal pragmatism that underpins the city.

The Iron Temple/Vostok is a place that is trying very hard to be a medieval castle with all of the statues and bonfires and the whole aesthetic of the Iron Lords. The statues of the Iron Lords all bear axes and swords. But when you look at it, you can see the very Soviet brutalist foundation of the place. So much of it is blocky concrete - the walls are squared off and unornamented, the observatory is concrete and metal. Every time I go in to where Tyra stands, I'm surprised that the pillar she's standing by is not round, because it's very easy to buy into the illusion they're projecting. There's also the concrete pillar that serves as vault and lights up when you approach - it has the technology, but like the Dreaming City, it's integrated into the landscape. Unlike the dreaming City, they really don't want to show you it.

Raputin's bunkers are just fantastic design in so many ways. They have a very clear shape (you can see the shape of a door and know immediately that this is something Warmind related), everything tends to be at right-angles. It's all very pragmatic and logically laid out. There is definitely technology there, and it's not really trying to hide, but it isn't showing off like Clovis does. Where Clovis is 70's aspirational sci-fi design, Rasputin architecture has a very Cold War vibe to it - none of the technology is flashy - it's chunky terminals running the most basic looking command line UI. It's thick cables and pipes and probably a million redundancies. The kind of tech which is designed to be found in a few centuries and still be reasonably functional. Also unhackable unless you are physically present. Rasputin is an AI so advanced that he can out-think the Vex, but his facilities are built to have the resilience of a Nokia 3310 phone, and are inspired by bunkers designed to survive nuclear war.

(I also think it's not accidental that the Warsats are made up of many angular shapes, especially triangles, trying to be a sphere, considering the whole motif of the pyramids vs the Traveller)

Pyramid Architecture is really really trying to pull off the sword logic 'pared down to remove anything extraneous' and present the idea of a universe united as one in its final shape... and is failing miserably at that. At first glance it's all straight clean lines, black stone, leaning towards brutalist, but they just can't keep it up – they're full of pillars serving no purpose, statues, coloured stone insets. Rhulk's pyramid is full of artwork painted onto the walls. There's so much symbolism built into them. They're incredibly ornate! Because as much as the Witness wants everyone to believe that it is one united force with one specific goal, it kind of isn't. It's made up of many many individuals. Even if those individuals that made it up all agreed on the final shape, it's nearly impossible to get one person to have a 100% consistent view of the universe, let alone hundreds! And especially in the Witness' pyramid ship in Root of Nightmares, you get the impression it's something of a mausoleum for its species and the other species its destroyed. There's lots of coffin-shaped and sized objects in there, and relics hidden away. It isn't as clean and focused as it would like the universe to think.

Here Is The Next Page And The Conclusion To Chapter 1. Without Knowing I Wanted It To Be A Reference

Here is the next page and the conclusion to Chapter 1. Without knowing I wanted it to be a reference to the cover art for the story. TNBD is next to be finished then those two will be put on break.

“They approach the stairway and stand upon the gate before them. The large walls and gate overlook them, as the sun rests within the middle of the sky. As they are one step close to entering the ruins”...

Cae/Collector: “Wow…, big gate”.

Lilith: “To think when I first saw this, I couldn’t believe my eyes”.

Vee: “So…, how do we get through it now”?

Gus: “I would say flying but since we're new around here probably now a good idea right now”.

Hooty: “Why not blast it open, then we can the inside”.

King: “NO!”

“Everyone looks towards the King as he yells”.

King: “These are ruins of my kind, I don’t want to try and break through it”!

King: “I haven’t seen anything related to my kind in a while that I haven’t seen”.

King: “I don’t wanna lose any part of it”.

Vee: “We won’t King, we know it matters much to you, since Lilith brought us, but mostly you for that reason”.

Lilith: “It would be harsh too, ancient history is something that should not be burned or destroyed. So, no idea of that again Hootsifer”.

Hooty: “Alright sorry, though it would be fun”.

Gus: “So what now then”?

“Jean-Luc approaches the gate closer, then as he points towards the gate he looks at King”.

King: “Wait… that symbol, on the gate”.

King: “My old collar had that on it”.

Cae/Collector: “Hey King, look at the hold in the middle”.

“King sees a hole that has cracks that flow from it”.

Gus: “A hole for what”?

“King looks at it for a brief moment, then he eyes widens. He then rushes down the steps and begins to carve on the ground. As everyone looks at him with curiosity”.

“He then pressed on the ground as the glyph symbol he carved formed a light. He carries it in his hand towards the gate, as he nods Jean-Luc to pick him up. He inserts the light into the hole”.

“The gate then glows, as the lights beam through the cracks, and it begins to slowly open. The light he used returns to his hands”.

Lilith: “Well, that figures”.

Lilith: “But we have our entrance”.

Vee: “King why don’t you lead the way”.

King: “Me?

Vee: “These are ruins related to you, you should see all of it ahead first”.

Gus: “We’re right behind you”.

“King looks at them happily, he grabs Cae’s hand and he steps upon the Gate. Jean-Luc is on his guard as they begin to enter. Everyone follows behind closely, as they enter the ancient history of King’s species”...

Chapter 1: Carving and Craving

With the steady grip of his knife, Caleb whittled away at one of his newest palisman creations. His muse? An earthly robin. Five years had passed since Caleb and Phillip traveled to the Boiling Isles in the demon world. Around that same time, he fell in love with a witch.

His gaze softened when he heard his wife sigh contentedly after she sipped her tea. She was a creature of habit just as he was. Since he was young, he was early to rise, to work, and then settle into the day-to-day doings. She liked to sleep in, whining when he disturbed her, only for her to pull him back into bed with tempting kisses and soft touches.

He had never met someone so kind and beautiful in his life. He was raised to hate witches and for what they represented. Witches were vile, horrifying creatures. They attacked human villages, ate their babies, and cursed the children they did not find nearly as scrumptious. She managed to change his beliefs. Perhaps the people back at home would cry foul of witchcraft. That somehow, Caleb was subjected to her evil sorcery.

He knew better now. She made him a better person, a better witch, and allowed his heart to be full of love instead of malice. She set him free, and those same bubbling feelings had resulted in his palisman, Flapjack. The red cardinal was currently chasing his daily catch of rattleworms, but if Caleb stilled, he could hear his bird’s sweet trill in the forest.

Caleb hoped to bring many birds to these woods. Birds from his old home to his new home. They were free to fly and find witches to bond with just as he and Flapjack bonded. That was his mission. With each bird, he breathed a new sense of purpose into them. To make friends, to be brave, to show tenderness. All of these birds shared a trait of his beloved. All of their feathers carved delicately were a testament to his love for her.

Then, like clockwork, Caleb dropped everything he was working on the moment his wife tried to stand. He stood by her side, hand around the small of her back, the other instinctively over her rounding stomach. Their child—the soon-to-be bundle of joy of their love was a songbird's call for freedom and spirit. Being a father, a husband, a palisman carver—he did not realize these were dreams he could ever entertain with such mirth and warmth. The idea of duty had been so cold before. When he walked in tandem with Phillip's methodological approaches, his excitement at the future dimmed.

With her, he could dream again. The sun felt warm on his skin. His heart was no longer heavy.

"Dear… You can let go. I'm fine." His wife wore a bemused smirk. Caleb knew she was capable, far more than he was at matters most of the time, but it did not stop his apparent need to dote.

"Sorry! Would you like anything? Do you want me to accompany you anywhere?"

That smirk of hers melted away into a delighted smile. "Why, I think some apple blood would do well."

Caleb shudders. "Apple blood?"

She stretches and lets out a yawn. "Mmhmm. Do you think you could bring me some?"

Caleb knew how tedious it was to produce freshly squeezed apple blood. That and how despite his fascination with the demon realm, he much preferred the earthly equivalent of apple juice. His wife said they were not the same. Truth be told, they tasted different, so she was right without even knowing how.

The very idea of fruit bleeding always disturbed Caleb. The added spices to the concoction were also troublesome to create.

"Of course. I'll get you anything you ask for."

Her grin widened even further. "Even fire bee honey?"

Caleb bit his lip. "D-Do you want fire bee honey?"

"It is very nutritious. Good for a growing witchlet."

He steeled himself, taking a deep breath. "Then I will go and bring—"

"I’m kidding." She laughed so hard a small, adorable snort made its way to his ears. He blushed furiously. She had a way of being that made him fall in love with her in new ways. Others would say she was imperfect. She was loud, and noisy at times, rebellious to the bone and so bold. The people back home would see her as uncivilized if they could ever look past the pointedness of her ears. Caleb wanted to change that. She was gentle, caring, kind, protective, and thoughtful in ways no one back on Earth ever could imagine.

"I know you are a human, and I'd much prefer my husband to be alive and a father to our baby. But if you could make some apple blood, that would be wonderful."

He kissed the back of her hand. "You will have that apple blood."

"Is that a promise?"

He offered a mischievous wink. "A promise indeed. Don't worry, sweet wife of mine. I’ll be back before nightfall.”

She giggled.

Caleb stole one more look at his wife before bringing his fingers in to whistle. “Flapjack, old pal, let's head out!"

From the forest, Flapjack emerged, quickly swallowing his meal. Fluttering his wings over to Caleb, he transformed into a staff. From there, the duo soared high above, catching a glimpse of the titan’s skull, hazy in a golden purple mist from afar.

For his wife, Caleb would give her everything. His soon-to-be child was no different. He had a family again, one where he felt he could be his truest self. One where he could love openly and unapologetically.

He promised her that apple blood. If there was one thing truly important, it was that a promise must be kept.

It's understandable don't worry! I'm no artist, but I too have a bit of a hard time thinking about designs that aren't just humanoid or animals from earth (or both). As for the thinking about alien societies, I'm no expert either, but I like to think that I can decently put together some interesting stuff with inspirations mostly from around history.

I'd like to point out a couple of other humanoid designs that I think are quite good with the spin they give to the idea. I know Fear Reaper looks more like a robot to most, but for me, it reminds me of a puppet with oversized hands. Like, they're so big that it's hard to picture them running with those instead of just floating around with some strings or chains conected to them. There's also Fortress, with their multible faces and four arms.

Agreed, it was quite off putting that these supposed alien invaders ended up being just humas with crazy hair. As for Marucho's program giving the Bakugan forms more familiar for humans, that's gona be a very interesting topic to explore, especially from the perspective of the bakugan themselves, who got isekai'd into another world with new shapes.

Although it may not end up being such a big change, the fact that these rifts appear naturally due to the Silent Core's power eroding the fabric of reality instead of Mikhail's portal is a nice touch. It also gives a good reason as to why the Vestals managed to reach Vestroia, allowing study them for a good time before being able to make their own portal.

That's what I've also thought! We already have Naga's minions in the last dozen episodes of season one (two of them actually surviving), so why couldn't there be more dual atributed Bakugan? I don't want to ramble here, but I also think the idea of Bakugan born from the Doom Dimension (like in the videogame) would be really cool too, maybe like a forced reincarnation caused by the Silent Core of those who perished there, but lack any memories of their past life?

Imagine all the shenanigans Mikhail could've experienced as the first human in Vestroia, that's quite a lot of wasted narrative potential.

The bonding between the Brawlers and their Bakugan has to be one of my favourite things in the series, especially in season one with characters like Shun (that episode hurted :,) ). Having new partners each season not only opens the possibility of having new stories, but it can also help develop other aspects of the brawlers that couldn't be explored with the partner before, or maybe new ones that appeared recently.

Your design ideas ARE very cool indeed! I don't know any specific monster artists out there, but let me tell you that folklore and cryptids are a good source of inspiration. Do not apologize! My response ended up being quite rambly too, so we're even xD I'm glad to have formulated a thought provoking question, those are some of the best when working on a project like this.

Hello! I've been binging on the headcannons and designs of your AU all day, they're very creative and have quite a lot of thought behind that makes them feel organic and vibrant.

Now, my question is about what are your headcannons for the other half of the characters, a.k.a. "The Bakugan™"? Though I'm not only talking about the monster protagonists, but Bakugan as a species. I haven't seen anyone flesh them out as of yet.

RIGHT SO here's the issue I run into whenever I try to work on Bakugan: I only know how to draw people. I'm not creative enough to do diverse designs that don't follow the general shape of a bipedal humanoid. Sometimes I draw a tail or something. I have a lot of respect for people who can design and detail fantasy creatures; they're always so creative and some of them literally blow me away. Additionally, from a writing perspective, I'm not very good at alien society worldbuilding, because I'm not creative enough to make up a whole new society. I'm not J R R Tolkien, for sure.

This presents a problem because I like to tell stories through designs. I let a character's looks influence the story (instead of the other way around, but that's because I just really like drawing things and then trying to get them to fit my story hehe) but if I can't draw a character, their part is just void.

When it comes to monster designs, unless it's horror or very very pretty (very arbitrary decision, tbh), I don't like humanoid creatures at all. I don't like Ravenoid or Robotallion or whatever the fuck Drago becomes in the later seasons. Exceptions are Gorem because I love colossi and Monarus because they're beautiful. And Lars Lion but I'd be okay if she was redesigned. I'm thinking of a deer with its antlers forming a crossbow.

I'd like to headcanon that Bakugan themselves have more primordial, indiscernible forms, but Marucho's program is able to translate the energy readings into physical beings. I always find it strange when a supposed alien creature looks like a person except maybe their eyes are different or they're taller (looking at you, Vestals. I want them to look truly alien, almost freakishly so. Maybe they can retain a humanoid silhouette but generally I want to go for something COOL) but at least for Bakugan I can just say "yah like Marucho's program makes them look like a giant turtle trust".

A Bakugan's energy is very powerful and unstable, especially reliant on the state of the central cores, which fuels all Bakugans' life force. Two cores is kind of like two notes played that forms a dissonant core. The power generated is unbalanced (Silent core is stronger) and it ruptures the fabric of the universe over time. Powered up by the dissonant split cores, this energy escapes through cracks in the dimension, which leaks into new worlds. Usually this leads to preventing the heat death of a universe, but my AU's world was able to harness the energy and translate that into a pokemon game.

Once the cores are reunited, the energy flows in harmony, but lingering effects of the rips remain. The energy is still leaking out, and can be captured. This is how the Vestals found the dimension and colonized it.

I actually like the idea that because of the separation of the cores, all the attributes were separated as well, and the joining of the cores at the end of S1 meant that all the attributes intermingled. related to that, I think it would be mega fun if S2 onwards, there are bakugan with dual or even three attributes, because of the cores joining. It'll definitely bring an interesting aspect to a Bakugan tournament, where a two different attribute brawlers can use the same Bakugan.

I think Mikhail really missed a golden opportunity to study the sociology of sentient energy, honestly. Instead he got caught up in traveling between dimensions.

Honestly while I have thought about how my AU's Bakugan might differ from the show's, I definitely have not thought about it enough to be able to write a worldbuilding manual out of it :( It's all very surface level stuff.

What I will say is that at the start of every season they gotta shake up the main team's Bakugan and have them get new ones. I liked being able to see how the brawlers and the Bakugan interact in the beginning of their partnerships, but the later seasons just drop you in the middle of a fight with a Bakugan you've never seen before and never explain how they met. If you want to treat your Bakugan like real characters you gotta flesh out that backstory!

With all these disclaimers out of the way, here are some Bakugan design ideas I wrote down a while back:

"a hummingbird with a scythe shaped beak" : while hummingbirds themselves are pretty nonthreatening, imagine a grim reaper hummingbird. hilarious. Darkus or Ventus attribute. This was extremely inspired by oberus and the fact that her design is so good i have no idea what the fuck they were going for. Exactly what I want.

"just a bundle of wings (think biblically accurate seraphim but butterfly wings instead of feathered ones) that slowly fall off and reveal a cocoon. once evolution happens, the cocoon opens up to reveal-" : I didn't have an idea for what it would reveal, but i like the idea of an ominous bundle of butterfly wings. Ventus.

"Biblically accurate owl" : A barn owl looking creature with no eyes on its face, but with eyes all over its wings. Darkus.

"Monstrous barreleye" : honestly you can probably make any of the deep sea creatures into a horrifying Aquos Bakugan, but the barreleye is my favorite. Imagine a big fish but with a clear dome and inside is just like. a writhing mass of tissue. What's going on here?

"Stingray skeleton, but it flies" : Stingrays have insanely cool skeletons. Their bones look like feathers. Haos.

A slightly warped vers (don't even ask how it's warped, it's different ok) of the lion costumes you see in a southern Chinese lion dance. Pyrus.

"Earthwyrm" : I think I just wanted a cool giant worm. A million teeth and cutting it up creates multiple wyrms. They can burrow to different gate cards using wyrm holes. Subterra.

Now that I'm writing these out I think my design ideas are fun. Maybe I'll draw them one day. This post ended up a lot more rambly than I expected, I apologize. You do bring up an interesting question though, it seems like I should start thinking about how the Bakugan as a species fit into my world.

Recommend to me your favorite monster artist! My personal favorite currently is matryoshiiika, but I would love to study more!
