Whilst the post on the creation of modern Jordan (was known as Transjordan) is still ongoing, I thought I would post an interesting fact about Emir Abdullah. It is little known that (as an Arab) he actually had a Jewish bodyguard - sounds impossible !.
The photograph below shows Abdullah’s personal bodyguard in 1922 - armed Jewish Yeminite warriors from the Habani tribe. The three men were brothers - Sayeed, Salaah and Saadia Sofer. They wore the traditional side curls (peyote) and the men of the tribe were known as tall, muscular and fierce warriors.
The jews probably originated from the Habban region in eastern Yemen, where there ancestral home would have been. I believe after about 1950 there were no longer any Jews in Yemen, the remainder having finally emigrated to Israel

What happened to Christina Grimmie (the singer who was shot dead at her own concert) infuriated me this morning. What the fuck is wrong with your government? Why can’t they see that THEIR FUCKING PATHETIC GUN LAWS ARE A PROBLEM?! This amazes me. Are they blind or smtg? I looked up this shit on the Internet and the data I’ve encountered is INFURIATING! “On an average day, 91 Americans are killed with guns.” LIKE EXCUSE ME?! 91. LIFE. ENDED. BECAUSE. OF. YALL!! “There are 12000 gun murders EVERY YEAR in the United States.” WHAT THE FUCK ?! HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE YALL OPEN YOUR EYES? “7 children or teens are killed with guns on an average day.” 7 FUCKING LIFE THAT HADNT EVEN REALLY STARTED YET. PER DAYS. DAYS!!! “AMERICA’S GUN MURDER RATE IS MORE THAN 25 TIMES THE AVERAGE OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRY.” WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED TO SEE ITS FUCKED UP. CHANGE YOUR FUCKING LAWS. START PROTECTING YOUR CITIZEN. HOW ARE THEY EVER GONNA FEEL SAFE ANYWHERE IF YOU DONT DO SOMETHING??!! Oh and don’t give me the “guns don’t kill people, people do Etc” excuse CAUSE IF YOU DIDNT GIVE THOSE SAME PEOPLE THE MEANS TO END A LIFE SO EASILY, those gun murder rates wouldn’t be that high and some people would still be alive. GET YOURSELF TOGETHER AMERICA, YOU’RE KILLING YOUR OWN CITIZENS.
On this day in 1936, Edward VIII’s abdication of the throne of Great Britain became effective, when Parliament voted to recognise his Instrument of Abdication, signed the previous day. The King, who succeeded his father King George V, abdicated due to his intention to marry Wallis Simpson, a twice-divorced American socialite. The Church of England did not allow divorced people to remarry, and, as the sovereign is head of the Church, Edward could not marry Simpson and keep the throne. Choosing his lover over the throne, Edward decided to renounce the crown and pass it on to his younger brother Albert. Edward reigned as king for 326 days before the abdication, but was never officially crowned; he is the only British monarch to have voluntarily renounced the throne since the Anglo-Saxon period. Albert, who suffered from a stutter and was very reluctant to take the throne, became King George VI, and was one of Britain’s most popular monarchs as he led the nation through the dark days of the Second World War. George VI died in 1952, passing the throne to his daughter Elizabeth, who remains Queen today.
Such a beautiful song.

Some of these niggas on Twitter make black men look bad by trying to make y'all look bad. Their ignorance, cowardice and stupidity baffles me. They act like their mothers, sisters, aunts, and cousins aren’t black. They should be Ashamed for themselves.
I know it must be difficult for you in a world that sees you as not just one minority but two. Like its not bad enough that your black but you’re a woman too. Double the hate. Double the prejudice.
Please though, I beg of you don’t give up on us yet. There are still men out there that see you as the strong, independent, intelligent, beautiful women that you are. We love you for it. Dark skinned, light skinned, brown skinned it doesn’t matter we love you all. You are all queens and should be treated as such. I apologize on the behalf on my misguided brothers who don’t understand. Just know there’s still some of us out there who see you as you are. Not as society, or social media portrays you.
With so much love,
A dark skinned brotha from Cali
Have you seen the New Yorker article recently posted entitled, "Broken, Defaced, Unseen: The Hidden Black Females of Western Art" by Robin Coste Lewis?
[“The Voyage of the Sable Venus from Angola to the West Indies,” a wood engraving by W. Grainger after T. Stothard.]
I had not seen or read this yet, and I’m so grateful you’ve brought it to my attention.
The entire article is an incredibly moving meditation on the life-transforming powers of art and research.
I want you to know how glad I am that you are running this blog, especially after what has happened. This is my message of support. I hope you get many more and I hope that you are safe.
Thank you, but I’m not safe. Myself and almost everyone I know have been hiding in their houses, even calling in sick to work, afraid to go anywhere because people are getting harassed and attacked all over. The KKK is literally marching in the streets proclaiming their “victory”. The scant resources or protections that have been keeping me and my closest people alive for the last few years have been “promised” to be removed, and without medical care or a safety net, we will die. Regulations that are supposed to keep our drinking water clean and our working environments safe are being removed, even more than they already have. Discrimination that keeps people from having homes, educations, and jobs is going to be legalized.
I realize there’s a lot of “we made it through [___], we’ll make it through this!” going around, but I’m not “we”. I’m a multiply disabled, chronically ill qpoc with a mountain of student debt, who is living in poverty with a physically disabled partner who only has access to medical care through the ACA and is waiting on an SSDI hearing. There’s already no heat in my house or car, and we live hand-to-mouth when it comes to food. And that’s not even the only direct threat, it’s just the most immediate one.
And I see a lot of people invoking history, but how long ago is history? Because after “reforms” to disability supports to the British system in 2011, literally thousands died within a week of having been deemed “fit for work”. TENS of thousands died under Reagan, and if it’s not clear, I was alive through his entire term and remember it well. This is likely to be worse than that.
I’ve had friends and family over, and we all have found there’s not much to say or do but stare at the walls in despair, and derive small comfort from each others’ presence. We’ll do the best we can, but we all kind of know we’re not the ones who “make it through this.” I’m usually a fairly positive person but I’ve…kinda got nothing here.

Enhanced Oil Recovery by polymer injection
Polymer to control the mobility of injected water has been employed for many years in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) applications.
Polymer flooding to improve volumetric sweep efficiency and reduce channeling and breakthrough, has been used by many operators to increase oil recovery. The same polymer can also be used with surfactants and alkali agents to increase the sweep efficiency of these tertiary recovery floods (i.e., ASP, SP and AP). Polymer flooding can yield a significant increase in oil recovery when compared to conventional water flooding techniques. A typical polymer flood project involves mixing and injecting polymer over an extended period of time until a slug volume equal to about 1/3 of the reservoir pore volume has been injected. This polymer slug is then followed by continued long term water flooding to drive the polymer slug and the oil bank in front of it towards the production wells. Polymer is injected continuously over a period of years to reach the desired injected pore volume. The end result being more oil produced in less time.
gas injection
1. n. [Well Completions]ID: 2673 A reservoir maintenance or secondary recovery method that uses injected gas to supplement thepressure in an oil reservoir or field. In most cases, a field will incorporate a planned distribution of gas-injection wells to maintain reservoir pressure and effect an efficient sweep of recoverable liquids. See: gas injection, injection well, secondary recovery, sweep efficiency
