my bmc au’s that are very, very closely linked to minecraft

for that anon who asked some time ago

a little context to these: i love minecraft fan content. roleplays, fanfics, alternate forms of gameplay, the like. and, of course, bmc is severely lacking minecraft content, so i decided to remedy that just a bit with these seven au’s !

(please note: the endgame for every one of these is meremine, whether romantic or qpr. the other ships i’m not particularly picky on, but do keep in mind that that is the shipping context on those three. another thing of note is that jenna is aroace, and i tend to lean on making characters aro, just because i want to. they’re all tight-knit, too, since i as an aro person desperately want them to be found family-esque. this “shippy” aspect is not up for discussion in any way)

1.

of course, a collection of minecraft au’s wouldn’t be complete without the ever-standard “they met online through a video game” au. i’ve got… quite a bit latched onto this au, honestly.

michael runs a faction, whereas jeremy plays on factions without one just raiding and doing whatever. jeremy and christine do a lot on creative, roleplaying their hearts out. and i feel the whole trio plays skyblock. i really like skyblock. it can’t be helped.

the squip only appears momentarily in this au as a griefer. they’re banned from minecraft forever for their crimes.

the whole squad eventually makes a town together. i forget what i decided the name was but it’s funky and they have a blast !! towny is… a delight.

jake is a server staff member and mr. reyes owns the server ! jake enjoys some creative roleplay and he’s probably in michael’s faction.

eventually they do all meet up ! first they meet in their little mini groupings but they also definitely have a big old get-together where they’re like hello fellow minecrafters !!!

it’s honestly been a while since i’ve talked about this au, which is a shame, because it’s great fun ! i adore it.

2.

the next au, one of my all-time fave au’s, is based loosely on the pixel trapped series by ash schmidt.

i call it the earthcraft au, because the premise is that the worlds of minecraft and earth were once one world called earthcraft, but have since split.

jeremy, michael, rich, thomas (rich’s brother), jenna, and chloe live in minecraft, while christine, dustin, jake, brooke, and madeline live on earth. squip is an evil wizard with an extended lifespan who lives in minecraft, but doesn’t particularly interact with the squad outside of pulling them into different worlds or sending monsters that have been drained of personal magic after them.

eventually, squip gets shoved into the void, earthcraft is reformed (although…. it does have a bit of a split where all the people i don’t want on earthcraft get to rot on a dying world), and the kids are reunited with their parents- except for jake and the goranskis, whose parents can rot in hell.

3.

this one is based off of the minecraft diaries roleplay series by aphmau ! i was a huge fan in middle school, and i’m quite fond of the premise and such. it might have some narrative decisions i disliked, but it was a good story, in my opinion.

so, jeremy wakes up in the middle of the woods, outside a village. he has…. no memory, of anything. in the village, he meets michael and christine, two guards who are glad he wants to join the village and help out.

the village’s lord recently died, so they’re trying to find a replacement while rebelling against a neighboring evil ruler that wants more territory who happens to be michael’s brother (he has two)- squip.

there’s also the whole shadow knights thing, which i don’t feel like getting into right now, and also the thing where jeremy and his associates are literally godly beings.

(whether it be that they’re the latest reincarnation…. or they wiped their memories recently in the hopes of not having to suffer as their closest friends died and reincarnated and died again…. the usual)

4.

this next one is a joyous adventure in learning ! it’s based on the wonder quest series by stampylongnose, just the first season, really.

jeremy and christine are an adventuring duo on the search for cake ! just when they manage to find some, though, they fall into the world of wonderburg- a wonderful (hehe) town full of curiosity….. usually.

however, their sense of wonder has been stolen by a heinous wizard named squip, who desperately wants to be found funny ! his brother, another wizard named michael, has summoned the pair to help him track down the pieces of the wonder cube- a magical gem that provides wonderberg with its everlasting wonder- that squip broke.

there’s many shenanigans, as squip tries to send his henchmen rich and jake after them- but they mostly just mess around,- and lots of learning ! it all comes to a close with squip realizing they can just subject themself to physical pain for laughs… which is, at the end of the day, all they really wanted.

(i feel i should clarify: the reason they haven’t found another way to be funny is because they literally do not understand jokes. they just want people to laugh at their jokes. they do not care what it takes to get those laughs. if getting blasted with fireballs repeatedly gets laughs, they’re down for it.)

this au is also one of my all-time faves !! it’s based on the fairytale fallout roleplay series by bbpaws and dangthatsalongname !!

(tw for: implications of/references to abuse, mentions of cannibalism, kidnapping, all particularly with children as the victims)

so, christine and michael are two friends that are trying to play some minigames in the multiverse of minecraft worlds, but when they try to jump through the portal into the lobby, they instead wind up in the world of misthaven. while trying to figure where they are and what’s going on, the duo stumbles across a tower in the middle of the woods.

this tower is home to none other than jeremy heere, a kid with a really, really long scarf that he knit as a replacement for the lengthy hair he’s chopped off. he sends michael and christine on a quest for enough dyes to change his scarf to rainbow, and in return he gives them a painting and joins them on their adventure.

as it turns out, misthaven has been cursed by a witch (note the pattern) so that all the fairytale characters who live there no longer have their happy endings. the town has also been left in ruin.

however, michael and christine were prophesied to arrive and save the land with the aid of jeremy so… now they’re doing that. and what better way to fight evil magic than to help out its very victims ?

(rich and his brother are the witch’s henchmen, but extremely unwillingly and only to the extent that they carry out her orders while also making it so they’re essentially nonfunctional. the witch is rich’s squip and her brother is the mother gothel to jeremy’s rapunzel- and also jeremy’s squip.)

this one’s a skyblock au ! i love them funky islands in the sky. basically, the whole squad lives in a skyblock version of the minecraft worlds, in a hub of islands. it’s pretty simple, but it’s nice. jeremy, michael, and christine are on a set of islands that are right next to each other, so they coordinate island expansion.

7.

this last one is a crack au. it’s based off this one post by @/rockflavors, i believe, where minecraft diamonds are declared to have the taste of mountain dew baja blast. please, just… go with it.

naturally, i decided this meant jeremy could and would eat a minecraft diamond as an alternative to drinking mountain dew, given the chance. so, in this universe, minecraft is extra popular ! rock candy for minecraft diamonds that’s made with mountain dew baja blast exists.

squip is activated Extra Chill™, fully decked out in vacation gear and a minecraft diamond shovel ! upgrade probably features jeremy eating a second diamond to upgrade the shovel into a sword.

the most important parts of this au are the kickoff and the party: the halloween party where everyone dresses up as minecraft mobs. and michael…… dresses up as a dolphin. the plan is to seduce jeremy into listening to him. i haven’t actually thought about the showdown, so whether it works….. is up for debate.

to be frank with you, i have no idea how this one works out. it’s weird and i really don’t think about it all too much, but it is fun, too.

so that….. is the summation of my au’s. i tried to not drown you in too much information, ‘cause god knows i could. if you want to hear more about a specific one (not the crack au, though, since that one is mostly a throwaway i had fun brainstorming the basis of and not much more), you could hit me up in dms ? or send an ask. though, keep in mind, i prefer dms because i don’t really like building posts about my au’s. it makes me feel a lot more exposed.

//downs entire cup of coffee ok. ok so uh. au where jeremy is a movie (movie!) actor who just landed his first major break as the male lead in a romcom with fellow co-star christine canigula, part-time actress, part-time broadway star, fulltime america's sweetheart. hollywood LOVES jeremiah heere, even if he's a lil overwhelmed by the sudden red carpets and paparazzi swarms. chloe works as head makeup stylist, brooke is in the costuming department, (CONT)

i CANNOT BELIEVE michael mell does not know who jeremy heere Is because everybody knows who he is. the hype for the movie (which is named Play Rehearsal because why the fuck not) is A Lot and jeremy gains a dedicated fanbase who watches every episode of an obscure tv show he’s been in, digs up shots of him doing various theatre productions through college, and one (1) shaky hand camera video of jeremy dressed a door in a pre-school play. jeremy is charming and kind and just the perfect amount of shy that makes people fall in love. when he gets signed on for the movie, everybody goes nuts.

jeremy is really fucking happy because here he is!! filming a movie!! (MOVIE!!) with christine canigula (CHRISTINE!!). he really is an incredible actor and he and christine have fantastic comedic and romantic chemistry. he loves acting and he loves his job and usual stress/doubts aside, he’s loving working on this film

but also ACK the attention is really overwhelming. logically, he knows that it comes with the job, but he went from basically a nobody to Rising Star. jeremy blended in seamlessly throughout his childhood, almost a professional at being a background character you overlook, and now. he’s getting recognized when he goes out to do groceries. he loves his fans so much!!! but also it’s rather nervewracking!! he didnt think he’d start fantasizing about days where he could go out and not get noticed, but here he is. he just wants a donut.

when he brings this up to chloe, she tosses him a pair of sunglasses. brooke takes those sunglasses and gives him a pair of much cheaper much less inconspicuous Not Designer sunglasses. jeremy gets the concept and digs out an old faded hoodie from high school and a cap (because he’s watched the scene in ca:tws. it’s incognito time) and makes that his Going Out And God I Hope Nobody Notices Me outfit. despite making it look like an idiot, it actually works. 

until michael mell, the dude who doesn’t know who jeremy heere is cuz his media consumption is stuck several years back and even if he was watching movies from the present, isnt the type to give any fuck over hollywood/actor buzz. he’s just a guy who’s lost on the streets somewhere in los angeles and he’s never gonna make it to—oh nvm yo dude can i have some directions

it has been SO LONG since somebody’s looked at jeremy and just kinda looked at him like a normal dude. no eye widening. no asking for a picture. this guy just flashes a bright smile that’s totally movie worthy, thanks jeremy, and leaves.

thatd be the end of that but they just keep meeting. 

jeremy gets a coffee? oh hey it’s lost guy! (this is where michael introduces himself to jeremy. he’s a programmer and he’s a bit new around here and when michael shakes his hand jeremy swears he understands that bit in the script of Play Rehearsal about heartbeats and hitched breaths. jeremy introduces himself as jeremy. jeremy heere. he waits for the pin to drop, for the recognition to come, but it doesnt. michael just quirks an eyebrow and says, “alright then, james bond.”)

(they share a table at the coffee shop and end up talking for the entire afternoon)

3am and jeremy’s at the corner store because Snacks and oh god hey it’s michael with a basket full or energy drinks oh god, what are you DOING. they criticize each other’s 3am food choices and it’s so much fun. the cashier stares at jeremy (Jeremy Heere) a little awestruck, but doesnt say anything. michael doesnt notice.

they finally exchange numbers when michael literally fucking runs into jeremy while theyre on location for filming and STILL. NOTHING. jeremy doesnt mind anymore and is just happy he’s got a friend who doesnt know or care about celebrity shit.

but then of course you cant get out scot free 100% of the time. paparazzi gets a shot of jeremy, in costume, looking dashing, the perfect romcom lead, laughing and smiling at an Unknown Man.

(”He isn’t my boyfriend, oh my god,” Jeremy says into his hands. “I literally just met Michael a few weeks ago. We’re friends. He’s really nice.”

“And you’re telling me,” Jenna says very slowly. “That he has no idea who you are?”

“I mean, he knows I’m Jeremy Heere but he doesn’t know I’m Jeremy Heere.“ Jeremy’s life is so surreal that that sentence can make sense. 

“Was he living under a rock?” Rich asks, disbelieving.

“Under a Gamecube, probably, I don’t know.”)

idk how long i wanna push michael not knowing but my point is that jeremy Really Likes michael and totally doesnt wanna scare him off. the jeremy michael knows is nerdy jeremy who likes video games and not celebrity jeremy who makes people swoon with perfect smiles. 

so jeremy doesnt Tell him. and michael says just figures that jeremy likes hanging out at really weird times and loves hoodies and caps and sunglasses and always looks over his shoulder because of his anxiety. oh the fun these two will have…

"Jake Dillinger is just a stereotypical jock with no personality"

Is a statement that will never fail to upset me. If you think this, I recommend rewatching Be More Chill.

(Warnings for talk of neglect, house fires, alcoholism, and underage drinking)

First of all, the entire point of Be More Chill is that the characters are stereotypes who deep down aren't what they seem to be. Yes, Rich is a stereotypical high school bully. But, he's actually being controlled by a SQUIP and is secretly nerdy and sweet and has his own set of issues.

This doesn't only apply to Rich. Every single character has this. The gossip girl, the queen bee, the stoner best friend, THE JOCK.

They are all high school stereotypes that have their own issues. Just because Jake doesn't have as much screen time as other characters does not mean it doesn't apply to him as well.

Within canon, Jake is abandoned by his parents because they're out of the country fleeing from their crimes. Jake participates in countless extracurriculars. Jake keeps himself busy with new things as often as possible. Jake feels lonely in his big house without his parents. Jake is tired of being the person that everyone thinks that he is.

All of these are explicitly stated in at least one of the three versions of Be More Chill.

Chloe's view of him: While a lot of Chloe's talk about Jake with Christine was jealously, there still is truth. Chloe has known Jake for a while and would use his issues against him (like when she specifically brought Jeremy into his parents' bedroom because she knew that would make Jake more upset than anything). When talking to Christine, she says Jake tries new things and doesn't always stick with them. I think this is an important thing to note. Also, Jake quits archery to be with Christine. I think that Jake enjoys sports and his clubs. But, I think it's less about him enjoying the activity and more about him trying desperately to occupy his mind.

The SQUIP even says this in Sync Up. I believe the line was, "This one participates in sports to avoid the feeling that deep down he will never be good enough." This line is so important to me because it confirms a lot of what the other lines and actions allude to. Sports and clubs are a way for Jake to get this rush of being loved and appreciated. He gets the pride of winning a game or leading a debate. Maybe he gets recognition from peers and teachers. When a child does not gain the affection and attention necessary from their parents, they look for it elsewhere. Acing tests and being good at basketball are the ways Jake can gain attention. They are the ways he can feel like he has done something worthy of pride. And maybe if it's good enough, his parents would look at him.

When asked if Jake had abandonment issues, Joe Tracz explained that there was a reason Jake felt like he had to be the best at everything all the time (referencing a line he says to Christine) This directly confirms what I am saying as well. Joe Tracz also said that Jake would be happy he had an excuse to leave that house after it burned down. I'm sure it was something that made Jake feel weighed down. His parents are gone. But, he still has their house. Sbarro was where they got pizza with him when he was a kid, so he continued to go there again and again. He is latching onto these reminders of his parents that I don't think he wants to latch on. He is stuck getting reminders of the things he has lost, and losing that house freed him in a way. If I'm remembering correctly, Joe Tracz said he was happy getting out of that house, and he got a new apartment near a Sbarro. I really like to envision this as Jake escapes what's holding him down and creates Sbarro into a positive thing that is more for him than it was a reminder of what he lost.

Jake's personality is something that would be modeled to gain attention. Neglected children often fall into the categories of acting out for attention and trying to be the best for affection. Jake would be the second option. He is a jock who does well in his classes because he craves the feeling of being good enough. If he is good enough, someone might love and care for him.

Jake does talk about his issues openly. Although, not in a venting way. And I think this is important to his character as well. When he brings up his parents being on the run, Christine says that it's really bad. "But the house is empty, so that's fun!" He is trying to pass his problems off as some cool, fun thing. Well, yeah, my parents are always out of the house. That means I can do what I want! I think, honestly, part of the reason he craved being with Christine is because she was the first person who really took his issues seriously. Instead of joking about throwing parties, she was concerned. When people talk about their issues in this light, a lot of the time, it's in hopes of being seen. I can't just talk about my feelings, but if I make a joke, maybe someone will notice and care. I think this is how Jake operates. But, when Christine notices, being the first to notice, he gets scared. He doesn't know how to be vulnerable. Neglected children are not good with emotional vulnerability and often do not know how to explain how they feel. Jake just tried to joke further.

When it comes to coping mechanisms, joking is one, but I don't think that's all. I think drinking and partying unfortunately became two things he gravitated towards. He mentions drinking on multiple occasions, and it would be an easy way to distract himself. Throwing parties would become a way to ruin the house and fill it with people. It's a big house and it is just him. Parties fill the house with people and erases his loneliness. Yet, his parents' room was off limits. He tries to maintain it. The room was the one thing he couldn't bring himself to ruin. The house can be ruined. He can ruin himself, trying to be perfect. He couldn't bring himself to touch that room. When the house burnt down, he didn't miss it. The house being gone gave him a freedom he didn't know he was searching for. He gets an apartment that was just for him. He was near his favorite restaurant that no longer just had to be about his parents and instead could be about him just simply liking their pizza. He was his own person who wasn't pretending to be someone he wasn't.

Jake is self-aware of his facade. "I'm tired of being the person that everyone thinks that I am." He does end up opening to Christine, despite being afraid earlier. I think it's interesting how he calls Christine out for not trying new things when he buries himself in new things to keep his brain occupied. She says his lonely, rich boy routine seems like an act. It isn't. It's his reality. Everyone thinks of him in a certain view and he can't escape it. Everyone thinks of him in these stereotypes of being a jock or rich boy or whatever. And he isn't that person. He's too deep in it to stop pretending. He's tired of it, anyway.

Jake being this rich boy jock may be true. It's just the way he's learned to protect himself and get the attention he needs. Because people need affection. It is a necessity. Jake isn't getting it any other way.

I do think that Jake can be a jerk and a bad person at times. I think that rings true for a lot of human beings. He is a hurting teenager, and a lot of hurting teenagers are assholes. I don't think he should be fully justified in every action he makes. However, I think there is a lot more to understand about him that people don't care to understand because he's a more minor character.

Jake is an asshole jock. The thing is, he is this more because he feels like he has to be than just because he likes being that way.

Jake is a complex character who deserves more recognition and understanding for being that way.
