but I believe that Personal Exotics work sort of like Inverse Tea;

So the Light of the wielder is the "Tea" (Flavor), and the Gear is the "Water" (Recipient). The Light steeps within the gear for long enough that it retains the technique or tendencies of the wielder (Saint's Helm, Shinobu's Vow, Caliban's Hand)
