Remus, as a teacher: you see, Severus, as the brainless immature assholes we were as young people, I do think that we have changed to better. And, for what's worth it, I like having you around. Snape: no, you don't. Remus: Remus: fuck, you're right. Remus: sometimes I have dreams where I castrate you.

dorcas and remus ducked as the house next to them, tall and gorgeous, blew up in pieces, chunks flying over their heads. remus was pressing on his stomach, thick, dark red, blood oozing between his fingers, and dorcas had a nasty, black bruise forming on their cheek.
they were hiding behind an old, worn-out apartment block, next to the trash cans, the smell coming out of it was nothing, insignificant, actually, compared to what had happened prior. the building, which had once been a home, was in pieces, and the dark mark, grotesque, the serpent and the skull, was hanging above the ruins.
they were ambushed. they were expecting a simple patrol down in surrey, but what hadn't crossed their mind was over twenty death eaters, and just the two of them. they had no backup, just the two of them, twenty-one years old.
"quick, hide in there, remus!!" dorcas pointed to the broke down factory, on their knees, shouting over the sounds of horrified screams and things collapsing around them with heavy thuds, casting a protecting shield around them. "the factory's two minutes away from here, and you're hurt, remus, it's not safe!" they wheezed, clutching their ribs in pain.
"cas, you're hurt too," he hissed, "come with me, just do it. quit playing the hero again, this is a life and death situation. you're going to die if you stay here."
"can't you see, remus?" dorcas let out an ugly hoarse laugh, spitting blood on the pavement. "i'm bloody dead already, it's only a matter of time until the bastards take me down entirely. and we've caught tom too. go, sirius is waiting for you home."
remus bit his lip. "we're waiting for you too, cas..." he trailed off, hoping that, merlin knows how, they'd convince them to come with him.
"i'll see you on the other side," they said, squeezing his shoulder one last time and, going straight into the battle, that night in surrey was the last time remus had ever seen dorcas.
