“August of another summer, and once again
I drink the sun
and the lilies are spread across the water”
-Mary Oliver, from Felicity, The Pond
theres no thought out there that makes my heart ache more than the thought that someone in the ancient world looked up at the same moon that i look at every night and loved its silvery beauty as much as i

I can make almost every single post-Soviet country person on this website feel specific heart-wrenching nostalgia at the same time with one very vague painting:

there is no force of nature that says “come here” like the ocean
Can you believe that there are people who live so close to the ocean that they can just think “hey, I should go to the ocean” and then they just do???
imagine if the oceans were replaced by forests and if you went into the forest the trees would get taller the deeper you went and there’d be thousands of undiscovered species and you could effectively walk across the ocean but the deeper you went, the darker it would be and the animals would get progressively scarier and more dangerous and instead of whales there’d be giant deer and just wow
men are fucked up but i like it when they have nose rings

The Two-Headed Calf By Laura Gilpin
Tomorrow when the farm boys find this freak of nature, they will wrap his body in newspaper and carry him to the museum.
But tonight he is alive and in the north field with his mother. It is a perfect summer evening: the moon rising over the orchard, the wind in the grass. And as he stares into the sky, there are twice as many stars as usual.

“My eyes were glued on life and they were full of tears.”
— Jack Kerouac, from “Atop an Underwood: Early Stories and Other Writings,”
i realised there was no gender neutral for “my sister from another mister” or “brother from another mother” and so I present to you all “my sib from another crib”

We make fun of clumsy cats and dogs, but some of them probably just need glasses and we can’t know it.
