Happy New Year!

I wish you all the best in the new year! And good luck. God knows we’ll all need it.

This timelord technology is getting out of hand. First his infinite pockets, and now his infinite hat.

I know that I've made this joke before, but the fact that the second Doctor's hat is almost always slightly off-screen always gives me big Doug Dimmadome vibes.

But to be fair, the actual length of his hat is also too funny for me to take seriously anyway.

Um...I have a few thoughts about this episode. It's not entirely negative because I think I liked it... but still.

The big thing is obviously the bi-generation and the splitting of the TARDIS. We have seen that the TARDIS is a living being with a personality. It even got a human form and confessed it's feelings. So what does splitting it do?

Also, New Who has made it a point to make REgeneration a big moment for all of us. We are saying goodbye to a face for good. If they ever reappear, it's at an earlier point in that Doctor's history. We will not get any REAL new stories from the timelines perspective. A favorite doesn't return return unless visiting them in the Doctor's mind.

Does Bigeneration cheapen our emotional connection to a certain Doctor? A Doctor that we've tuned in to watch each week for several seasons and then cried as they come to terms with being replaced. The monolouges and goodbyes that were beautifully written to comfort both the Doctor, any companions, and us the audience?

And really, that's all I'm worried about. How does this change how we view the most beautiful moments of Doctor Who, old and new? The grief and acceptance we go through each time with a new companion or a new Doctor. The loss and beginning anew? I love checking in on companions from different runs.

But if one Doctor is settling down and one is still going on through the stars, which one gets the happy ending? Because leaving 10/14 to live his life and never checking in on him again, he's just like a companion or the severed hand Doctor in a lot of ways. And the now "main" Doctor? Is he not still going to struggle with the same things?

Lastly as just a side note, did the Toymaster purposely missgender Missy? Because she was dying at the end of Capaldi's run and that looked like a woman's hand grabbing the gold tooth that he had trapped "The Master" in after he had won the game. I'm of the belief that 13th's Master takes place before Missy because of the character development we saw throughout 12's run ending with her "dying" alone instead of betraying the Doctor.

Bold take:

As an avid watcher of Columbo, I think if I were sucked into the show and killed someone I would get away with it.

I have the advantage on all of the other killers because I know Columbo. I know how he thinks, and I won't let him drive me crazy like he does everyone else.

I had the weirdest dream last night, so I thought I'd share it here before it's completely gone from my mind.

It was set in Ankh-Morpork and there were two people from the future. One was a dude who was a private detective, and one was a woman who was the patrician. The city had moved out of the Victorian Era style and now everyone was dressed like it was the 1920's.

So, these two people travel back in time and they're like "cool, we can meet the people who made this city great". So they meet Sam Vimes and he follows them around since they are acting strange.

They make it to the Patrician's palace, and the woman is in awe about every little thing. Birdbaths, benches, everything.

She makes it to the Oblong Office, and a woman opens the door. The time traveler asks if she can meet Lord Vetinari, and then everything loses sound as this other woman (who I guess is a nurse?) mouths that Vetinari has just died. The future patrician walks away in slow motion as cameras click like it's an emotional scene in a movie. She's wide eyed and in shock.

And then it ends with dude doing a Benjamin Button and aging backwards until he dies for some reason. Kind of weird considering I haven't watched that movie since I was in 9th grade but whatever.

Obligatory musical episode I see. Thanks Buffy for solidifying that for every show in existence. At least the cover for the theme sounds cool.

Not digging the Cassie/Jane thing going on though. I'm team Shelly all the way.

Sometimes you just think about how certain mannerisms you pick up from your loved ones will be one of the few things you'll have of them once they're gone. That even memories won't last as long as holding yourself a certain way or how you move when you get excited. Memories of a person can't be passed on throughout generations, but a mannerism can and they're a way of showing the mark that someone has left on the world, decades or even centuries after the memory of them has faded. It shows that they were here and that they mattered.

And sometimes you just want to go to Cracker Barrel.
