Happy Pride to EVERYONE, including to every queer Palestinian

This Year While We All Celebrate Pride Month And Celebrate Ourselves As Well As Those Who Came Before

this year while we all celebrate pride month and celebrate ourselves as well as those who came before us and paved the way for us to do so, we must also think of those in gaza, queer or not, who live every day under a brutal occupation and don’t have that same privilege. happy pride, and may we see a free palestine in this lifetime.

Amphibia Season 3 Thoughts/Review

image

Season 3 of Amphibia is easily the most divisive season among the fanbase. There are a lot of different reasons for this but I think it primarily comes down to tone and pacing.

The reason why the issues with tone and pacing are so prominent is because of how it followed up True Colors. True Colors came in and seemed to promise that things would never be the same. It created a scenario for Anne and the Plantars that was very desperate. Sasha was left in Amphibia, Marcy had been stabbed (and for all they knew was dead), Amphibia was in imminent danger, and earth was going to be invaded next.

All of this should have created a massive sense of urgency and worry, but this doesn’t carry over very well into many of the episodes. The tonal whiplash that occurs when you watch True Colors and The New Normal back to back is massive. It goes from that gut punch of an ending to Anne being excited that she has wifi for the first time in months so quickly that it’s almost as if the characters forgot what happened.

Amphibia Season 3 Thoughts/Review

When the show does address the sense of urgency the characters should have it is always on Anne’s end. Anne is the one staying up researching how to get back, Anne is the one trying to drop everything for new leads, Anne is the one losing sleep over the situation. The most the Plantars show on their end is homesickness.Ā

They are frequently the ones telling Anne to be careful or calm down which seems odd because they should have very pressing and important reasons for wanting to get back beyond missing their home.

In season 2 the heroes’ lack of urgency made sense. They didn’t know about Andrias’ plans, the core, or Sasha’s toad rebellion. The episodes where they explored Newtopia or visited towns on their travels fit much better because of their gap in knowledge and like I said previously those episodes usually found a way to keep the story moving forward or have important character moments so that they rarely distracted from the plot.

Amphibia Season 3 Thoughts/Review

In season 3 there’s too much hanging over the characters’ heads that they know about for it to feel organic watching the episodes back to back.Ā

This isn’t to say that what happens on the earth half of the season is bad. The content is actually very enjoyable. Watching the role reversal between Anne and the Plantars is fun and we get to see even more of Anne’s culture and home life which is always a welcome addition.

The exploration of Anne’s family and culture is one of the best things about the first half of the season. The Thai Temple episode (Temple Frogs) in particular is one of my favorites.Ā

Amphibia Season 3 Thoughts/Review

It has Anne displaying the urgency that some episodes were missing while also addressing how Anne’s parents struggled during her time away and how their community kept them afloat. This strikes a balance that makes almost everything that happens feel important on an emotional level without losing sight of what this half of the season is building towards.

I literally love these posts because it's posts like these that make me look at my smile lines and smile even more. Like I literally can't help it. Every time I notice them a major smile grows on my face. And I absolutely love it.

skin is not supposed to be perfectly smooth and clear and unblemished. it’s literally like 5 sq ft of organ that’s ENTIRELY ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR BODY. it’s supposed to protect you and your organs and your muscles and ligaments etc. without skin that can adapt we would all be riddled with infections and pain. even ā€œimperfectā€ skin loves you and doesn’t want you to suffer. be nice to it . it is your friend

This is actually so important

In all seriousness though---

Korra got a ton---and I mean a TON---of hate, for daring to be a headstrong, non-genderconforming woman of color. So forgive me if I don't react well to "korrasami doesn't deserve it"

Korra already fought through enough misogyny and racism while it was actively airing. She already got enough criticism for not being the "target audience" of 8-12 age males who buy action figures. She already got enough criticism for having flaws as a woman, for not "acting ladylike". She already got enough criticism for not being white or white passing in a show that has ZERO white characters. So when you come at korrasami fans with "they don't deserve it"? Don't be surprised when korrasami fans look at it with a lens of suspicion, because korrasami already fought through the criticism, already fought through being stuck in the "dead slot" air time in nickelodeon (which they were moved to in season three, when the show runners actively started hinting at a wlw ship), already fought through being pulled off air and onto online viewing only, in 2014, for those of you who are a bit young. (Obergefell vs Hodges, the Supreme Court case which legalized gay marriage nationwide in the US, happen on June 26, 2016). "They only held hands in the finale" because that's all they could get away with at the time. They were the FIRST. Bubbeline came later. Rupphire came later. Catradora came later. There are still no notable mlm ships in children's media, so the work ISN'T done. Korrasami fans "screech and yell" at you for not understanding because you accuse them of "queerbaiting" without understanding that they were the FIRST in their time to OPENLY hint at being gay on a a children's television network. In a time, for most intents and purposes in the US, being gay was still ILLEGAL.

And by the way? The Owl House, a recent, animatec children's show on Disney, was recently canceled for not being "the Disney brand". It features a bisexual woman of color (in an EXPLICITLY wlw relationship) as the main character, not unsimilar to Korra. Misogyny is not dead. Homophobia is not dead. Know your history, and know the work isn't done.
