Have I ever said how much I love Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard?

Okay so, not only does the sardonic nature of Magnus’ outlook on the whole death and gods deal, as well as the humor and descriptive writing give the book character and makes it completely awesome, but it is one of the most diverse books ever! All the (main) characters seem to be a part of a marginalized group. Magnus was homeless, Alex is gender fluid, Samirah is Muslim, Hearthstone is deaf, a lot of the other characters are POCs and that’s just getting started. Not only are minorities being represented, but their ways are respected and talked about in a causal manner. Characters ask about Alex’s pronouns, Sam’s Islamic customs are respected and talked about (like the rules of Ramadan, her praying, how she will take off her hijab around family). And these guys aren’t just stuck in for inclusion, they are given character depth and complex personalities and goals, and their skin/gender/orientation/religion is integrated into the story and ahhh I love it so much. Rock Riordan’s books have always been inclusive, but this is the best instance so far and I hope other authors follow the lead. THIS is how to write about diversity, people.

You know what I need from the PJO Adaptation?

-Actors as old or very close to the ages of the characters

-Cameos of characters that come in later. Small mentions. Easter Eggs. That scene (Titan’s Curse I think) where Percy thinks Thalia would want to look for her mom but we know that she’s talking about Jason. Reyna brushing Annabeth’s hair in  SoM. Nico and Bianca in the background in TLT. An offhand mention about her cousin in Boston from Annabeth. I NEED IT

-Actors that are the right ethnicity.

-Sexuality and Gender being correctly represented and not completely glossed over.

-Early 2000′s soundtrack please and thank you

-the inside jokes. All of them. The guinea pig. The blue food. Dam. All of it

Don’t go to class.” Hades: “My math grade is almost lower than my will to live.” Hestia: “Sometimes I just want to sit in that fire pit and roast marshmallows as I let the ashes reclaim me.” Demeter: “They said we need more plants around. Replace me with a plant.” Hera: “I need feminism because clearly my future husband is going to be a dumbass and I want to prove I’m better.” Athena: “I like the smell of old books.” *proceeds to stuff face into textbook* Hermes: “I can steal your heart, yes- but can I steal myself a personality?” Apollo: “Music class these days is just idiots trying to find happiness.” Artemis: “I just want to be gay with an instinct to kill.” Hephaestus: “I want to build myself a girlfriend.” Aphrodite: “Maybe one day people will appreciate my inner beauty and not my numerous pimples.” Dionysus: “Time to get DRUNK!” *chugs water bottle* Persephone: “I love flower crowns. For the love of the Gods, I beg you, please make this a reality!
