A major POV character having parallels with every other member of an ensemble cast, providing extensive opportunities for the author to explore the intricacies of their character from different viewpoints?
Well, I never! What next, other major characters also have parallels with one another that allow for even more dynamic interactions, so much so that the story might wrap up before we fully explore all of what they could do and say to one another?
Why, that would leave us with a sense that the characters are 3 dimensional and could exist in their world outside the story. Fanfiction could even sprout off the possible futures that an ending providing satisfying character and story arcs would allow, simply for the sheer volume of available dynamics.
is this something idk
So cool to see this on my dash.
‘The Grey Havens’ by Alan Lee
thinking non-stop about the Terry Pratchett Method of Deconstruction (TM) and how it works
[...] the wages of sin is death, but so is the salary of virtue, and at least the evil get to go home early on Fridays. (Witches Abroad)
Take a common concept, metaphor, idiom, trope etc. "The wages of sin is death."
Invert, reverse or subvert it to highlight the inconsistency or issue. "But so is the salary of virtue." (Well, actually, everybody dies, right?)
While everybody's contemplating the philosophy revealed, overextend the metaphor and whack them in the back of the head with the joke like a comedic quintain while they aren't expecting it. "At least the evil get to go home early on Fridays."
He does it quite often and I love it every time.
Solar power is not renewable because the Sun is dead in prolly billions of years, so what do we do at that point, huh?? checkmate, infinite fracking is the solution
Do you guys think the reason so much fanart exists for the voices is not because of them being great characters (all the characters in STP are), but instead because we spend more time in our own heads than we ever will with a version of the princess?
I get it. They're inherently relatable because they reflect our previous actions through any route and set the tone of each chapter. They bicker with us and are able to see every option we take.
But, maybe the princesses are underrated. As in, she's always an outsider. How quickly would she be more beloved if the voices would shut up and let us do our stuff, or if they were seperate from us?
How then would we judge the impulsive contrarian, the weak-willed hero or the depressed cold? Would we appreciate paranoid were he more than a life support?
Ask yourself that, and ponder it awhile. Don't say it to anyone. Just an hour of your independent thoughts, clear of little voices.
i have to admit that i used to be one of those people who hated frodo because he was 'weak'. but then as i got older, i started struggling with my mental health. i started to feel tired all the time and even tiny little problems felt huge and insurmountable. frodo wasn't weak for needing sam's help or for pushing sam away. he wasn't even weak for being unable to throw the ring into mount doom. frodo had been pushed to his limits. he tried so hard, but in the end, he wasn't good enough. but that's the point. nobody could have been good enough. nobody would have had the strength to throw the ring into the fire intentionally. frodo probably couldn't have done it even if he hadn't been pushed to his limits. and neither could i. the quest to destroy the ring was cruel, because it required frodo to sacrifice everything, including himself. and he pushed himself so hard, even as the ring ate away at him, even as gollum tricked him into distrusting sam. frodo was brave even as the ring clouded away everything that was good and beautiful - he didn't even remember the taste of strawberries. but he still kept trying until he couldn't anymore. i think that frodo's story terrifies me a little, because what if i am also not strong enough to keep going? what happens if nobody is there to save me? and even though frodo lived, he could never be the same again. all i want is to be the person that i used to be. i know that i never will be that person again.
anyway, frodo - i'm so sorry for ever thinking that you were weak when that was a thing you never were. and thank you tolkien for this character who is so strong in a way that our heroes are rarely portrayed as.
We've all been here, or will be soon enough. You'll get your answers if you haven't yet, some earlier than others. Some maybe not at all.
Soooo after playing a bit more i think i'm starting to get a grasp who the princess is - she is a reflection of me. She will always react according to my actions (and grow some more personality in the meantime) But who is the narrator - he sometimes has power over us (especially in the first chapter) and sometimes not. He clearly can't be trusted. Is he one or many?? He loses power the more power the princess gets...and he seems to be disgusted almost jealous whenever our realationship to the princess gets better. SOOO who is he? Is he our self preservation? Our pride? Why isn't he able to see the mirror (something i believe he isn't lying about)
At one time he let slip that we were MADE to slay the princess - so what are we? Are we a clone? What is this world which is completly under his control? Will I ever get answers. I fucked around a little bit but havent found any satisfying answers yet... So my question is - what can i do to really piss him of so he makes a mistake and reveals to much. I will ponder this.
