hii sorry for bothering, but how did you rip the parts for allan? me being the fool i am tried to wing it and downloaded jpexs and messed around and found myself wholly lost... i think your stuff is super cool and you inspire me a lot !! so i just wanted to reach out and see if you were okay w/ sharing the process? thank you
i have no idea what the most elegant way to do it is, but this is what i was able to figure out on my own:
first you need a swf of the game you want to rip the sprites from.
then you'll need a swf decompiler, i also used jpexs so that's what i'll be using in this example too
first, load the swf file into jpexs
you'll see a bunch of folders. This one, labeled "sprites" is where we'll be ripping from. But if you open the folder, you'll probably notice there's a lot of sprites to sort through. We specifically only want Allan, so we need to find his sprites specifically.
go to the "tools" tab up at the top, then hit the binoculars icon that says "text search". From there, we're gonna type in "allan" then press okay. It may take a few minutes to search through the entire file, just wait for it to finish.
After that, a new small window will pop up with all the search results. We're gonna click on one beginning with "customer_Allan" (it doesn't matter which one) then click on the "go to" button at the bottom.
it's going to take you to another part of the project file, you'll notice in the red box here all of Allan's various parts are listed. Right now we have his body selected, so the text on the right is showing us the data related to that part. If we look at the data, there will be a bit of yellow text near the top that begins with "symbol" and ends with a number. That number is what we're looking for. In this case, it's 592.
If we scroll back up in our project, back to the sprites, and we locate sprite 592 and select it, we can find Allan's body. It'll likely be flashing through the different alt styles when you click on it, that's normal. Once exported, you'll have each of those alt style bodies. In order to export it, we just have to click on the "Export selection" button here.
from here you can choose the file type you'd like, and what size it'll export at. I was exporting mine at 2000% but that's likely overkill for your needs. I wouldn't recommend exporting them at anything less than 500% though, as otherwise they will come out rather small.
And that's really it. Just repeat the process for each of Allan's pieces and then reconstruct him in the program of your choice.
There are some issues with the rips, you might notice in between the solid blocks of color on the sprites are transparent gaps. You can either fill those in yourself, or export them at a very large scale and size them down. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to export them without the gaps yet
reblogging because this is very sweet + I agree with op, i think this should be less stigmatized
putting personal things under the cut related to self-inserting but mostly selfshipping
I lean more towards selfshipping but I do use that as a sort of coping mechanism paralleling self-inserting. like. if imagining [character] lovingly encouraging me to get out of bed some days helps then I do it. or if they're like telling me to hike my ass off the carpet and go do something productive
I found out about the comfort character and selfship communities 4 years ago and Ive felt a lot better about myself especially since I started selfshipping 7 years ago (wowiee). but really I've self-inserted my whole life without realizing it, with my favorite fictional medias
i still struggle with uh normalizing it for myself in the sense that I still feel like non-existent internalized people are judging me for thinking of something that doesn't exist comforting & loving & interacting with me but. I'm gonna keep doing it regardless of what people think, including myself. and I will support anyone else who does the same (in a healthy manner). thanks for coming to my ted talk might delete this text box later??
This isn't exactly art but, I feel like it's important so I'm posting it here anyway.
Self inserting with my favorite characters has been one of the best coping mechanisms I’ve ever had, and for over a decade I’ve tried to normalize the idea so people don’t feel ashamed to use it for the same purposes. It’s helped me feel better about myself at my darkest points.
I just think the idea of having ppl in your head who love you unconditionally and would never hurt you is a rly good vehicle to help you feel better in lot of situations. These days I mostly just do it for fun, but yesterday was really bad for me, and I made a comic to help cope.
Just something quick in PLP because I was too exhausted to draw it, but it made me feel immensely better. I wasn’t going to post it publicly, but after thinking about it I think I should. It helped me so much, and I want people to not be afraid to do the same thing. I want people to look at me and think “well if Billy’s doing it maybe it’s not so cringe after all, maybe it’s okay if I do it to”
(i don't want to stretch people's dashboards so it'll mostly be under a cut. and also for needed context in regards to the comic: i suffer from schizoaffective disorder and can sometimes experience hallucinations if I forget to take my medications)
(also these were made in parts, so they might feel a little disconnected. That was all part 1, this next is part 2)
and next is a little interlude where Allan does things to help cheer me up
and this is the last part
I wish Gholdengo was real. I wish I had an emotional support haunted-pile-of-money-in-the-shape-of-a-li’l-guy who was a surfer 🥺 man, reality fucking blows
i think Chuck was in it. I don't remember what happened but I know he invaded my brain space for a night
dreams about my hyperfixations don't happen often so if anyone shows up it's honestly a big deal LOL
has ANYONE ever had a papa louie dream?
I would love to hear
Things that should be normalized:
Taking meds in public
Going out to eat by yourself
Not having your drivers license
Asking about allergies when eating out
Things that should NOT be normalized:
Watching loud videos in public without earbuds istg stop it its so annoying I don't want to hear some Minecraft dude screaming while I'm trying to eat my pancakes in peace
Said I was gonna draw Fecto Elfilis and here's what I ended up with. Elfilis is a character I didn't expect to relate to, but here we are!
i cant believe nintendo announced Kirby Has a Midlife Crisis for Nintendo Switch at E2 2022
