ooh hehehe i watched red notice for the first time yesterday and read your whole trash talking love series and ahhhhh

would you happen to have a few angsty booth hcs to spare? for a poor soul? i saw that man and my little queer self instantly went "ooh little queer man with issues my favourite"

It’s such a good movie!! I’m glad you like the fic series!

Almost all of these headcannons came from various conversations with @a-holy-trinity so credit to her bc I can’t come up with half of the angst that she does

Booth hides his injuries

Half the time he doesn’t even realize he’s doing it until they’re already back at whatever safe house they’re using for the time being and Booth has insisted he’s fine but is secretly stitching up a gunshot wound in the bathroom

Hartley and Sarah find bloody bandages in the trash the next day and confront him like “hey wanna explain something???”

They’re understandably Not Pleased that Booth hid his injuries, even as he tries to insist that he didn’t mean it, really, it was just habit

Which doesn’t really make them feel any better

It’s a mix of him being very bad at accepting help and not wanting to be a burden and also just being used to working on his own for so long that he’s used to pushing through being in pain/injured

They do however get in the habit of double checking Booth for injuries after any heist they do, just to make sure he isn’t hiding something from them

Booth also despises the hospital and avoids it under any and all circumstances

Which Hartley and Sarah do understand on a certain level, because they are criminals and generally going to a hospital with a gunshot wound raises a lot of questions

(Though part of the reason Booth hates the hospital so much is because growing up his dad always told him to ‘walk it off’ and other BS so he never got used to going to the hospital when he was injured and the habit just stuck)

But then Booth refuses to listen to the private doctors that they call in, and continually insists he’s fine even when the doctor said he should be on bed rest for two weeks minimum

They have to set up ‘Booth watching duty’ to make sure he doesn’t try to do something stupid like get up and walk around and reinjure himself

The man just cannot sit still 

(adhd anyone???)

But combine that with the whole ‘can’t accept help/doesn’t want to feel like a burden’ and ooohhhhhh boy you’ve got a big storm brewing

It takes a long time for Booth to really understand and believe that Hartley and Sarah won’t hate him if he gets injured and won’t leave him behind

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Booth will dramatically complain about the tiniest paper cut for hours

He will go on and on about how he’s dying and no one’s taking him seriously they’re really just going to let him die like this??? *dramatic gasp*

Which is part of why it takes Hartley and Sarah a while to realize he hides his injuries at all because the man complained about a stubbed toe for three hours yesterday there’s no way he could hide- you got shot WHEN and didn’t say anything?!?!?

Generally Sarah and Hartley can tell how bad the injury is by how much Booth complains. The less he complains the worse it is. If he insists he’s fine? *Kill Bill sirens*
